The rock turns out to have a bunch of holes in it. From within the shell come several floppy, yellow appendages. One of which has eyes. The Shuckle blinks at Ruby, obviously surprised that its oh so clever disguise was seen through. It then promptly withdraws back into the shell with a schlorp.

"Oh cool! It's a Pokemon!" Ruby says. "Kinda was hoping it was actually a Berry eating rock though...Oh well!" Ruby sits the Pokemon down, picks a bunch of Berries, and then holds them in front of the hole that the yellow thing with the eyes came out of. "It's okay little guy. I won't hurt you."

Ever so slowly, the "arms" (or would it be "legs"? tendrils?) come back out and snatch up the proffered berries before withdrawing back into the shell. Either this is how it eats, or it's storing them for later. Hard to say.

What can be assumed is the head slowly emerges from the center hole in the shell, followed by four of those "limbs". It seems to understand that Ruby is not going to try and crack its shell open to eat it. She isn't a predator, and she is giving it food, so...okay. Maybe we'll try this. Hopefully there isn't a lot of work involved.
Shuckle is female, level 10, Naive, with Gluttony.

Ruby is skipping through the trees again, and after passing by a different kind of spider (which briefly gets her excited before she realizes it's not yellow) and some weird, moustachio'd critter, she finally spots her quarry. A tiny speck of yellow against the bark of a tree with yellow-green leaves!

Just as the Joltik begins to consider its response, the Spinarak from before skitters into view once again, firing off a mass of webbing at Ruby. Apparently it didn't like being (even temporarily) passed over for something like a Joltik. It doesn't seem to intend harm to Ruby, just wants acknowledgement. It stares down the little Joltik, the face pattern on its back causing the smaller bug to shiver.

Spinarak was all ready and raring to prove itself by defeating the Joltik, but stops at Ruby's words. Of course she wants Spinarak. It's the best arachnid Pokemon there is (in its own opinion)! Joltik meekly agrees with Spinarak, but will still happily join Ruby, even if it means teaming up with Spinarak. It has nothing against Spinarak in general, this one is just touchy it seems.
After much cajoling from Ruby to get Spinarak to accept having Joltik as a teammate, the two arachnids finally join her team.
Spinarak is level 8, Male, Curious, with Insomnia.
Joltik is level 7, Female, Rash, with Compound Eyes.

After having climbed down from the tree, Ruby sets off to find something less annoying than the Misdreavus. After some walking, she discovers a strange, yellow-ish Pokemon just sitting next to a bush.

It holds up a hand, asking for Ruby to wait just a moment. After a moment, there is a small, non-Pokemon critter that approaches the strange Pokemon. Quick as a flash, a set of jaws suddenly emerge from the bush and snap up the critter in question. Naturally, blood leaks from the jaws as it noms on the fleshy critter; all the while smiling innocently at Ruby with its face.

Well, there is in fact, an ordinary bush that it was sitting next to. The jaws are about as large as Mawile's body. It stands up, having finished its meal. It looks up at Ruby, silently asking what it is she wants.
