"I'd be happy to go and meet Hero Clay with you, Ruby, but we really shouldn't rush something like that. It would be rude. And if we don't rush it, you're going to get even hungrier than you already are," Sapphire pokes her sister in the stomach, "and nobody wants that. Lunch first, then we can see about introducing ourselves." And Emil can make excuses to be somewhere else without the reason being too obvious. She's not sure exactly why he's reluctant to meet Clay again - general shyness? - but that's his business.

Emil sighs quietly. That is not the backup he was hoping for but at least means Ruby isn't hauling them off to look for Clay without food. "Fine, I guess we can see if he's home. After lunch."
Honestly, it's not that he's reluctant to meet Clay, necessarily, even if his enthusiasm is kind of overwhelming - he doesn't want to bother him, which will be true if Ruby goes to find him whether or not Emil is personally present. Though Clay can probably handle Ruby better than he can.

Oh, alright...Now that that's settled, let's get some grub!" She says, as if it were someone else's argument before dragging Emil to the nearest seafood place.

Of course, despite Cerulean being bigger than it was twenty years ago, it's still fairly small. It has precisely one place to eat that isn't the Inn. So you go there and have a great meal. It costs you only about 200 Crowns for everyone.

When lunch is done, Emil runs a hand through his hair. "Guess we'd better go see about finding some apricorn balls, right? I hope somebody in town sells them, or we're gonna have to hike back to Saffron and come back tomorrow..."
He is desperately hoping lunch was long enough for Ruby to forget about her goal of hunting down Clay.

"Oh! Good idea! Maybe Hero Clay'll know if anyone sells them!"

"That's not- I didn't- ugh, fine." Emil rubs his forehead. Just his luck, the one time Ruby doesn't get distracted is when there's something he doesn't want to do. "We can go see if he's around, I guess. I'm not making any promises. You ready, Miz Sapphire?"

"... sure. Did you want to go looking for a store while we go see if Hero Clay is in town? Ruby's going to get distracted talking about his adventures." Sapphire is still under the impression Emil doesn't want to meet Clay for some reason, rather than preferring he not be bothered at all.

And Emil has no idea she's thinking this, of course. He shakes his head. "Nah, we may as well both keep an eye on her. I just kinda feel bad about... inflicting Ruby on him, y'know? If he's at home he's probably looking to take a rest, even heroes have to do that sometimes. I shouldn't have mentioned him to start with."

Thankfully for Emil's nerves, Hero Clay is not in town. Though perhaps this isn't necessarily a good thing as now Ruby is in depressed mode. You really can't ever win with her, eh? On the flip side, there is a small marketplace where there is one guy who sells Apricorn balls. His stock is limited, however, as he can't compete with the people in the big cities, yet most folks here and over in Pewter don't need 'em that frequently. If at all. So he has precisely 10 Apricorn Balls for sale at slightly lower prices than in the city. Where they're 200 Crowns in the city, this fellow sells them for only 180 Crowns.

Emil sighs and shakes his head. "Sorry, Ruby. We're gonna have to try again some other time. I'm pretty good in the woods but I'm pretty sure I couldn't track down Hero Clay." He doesn't really want to abandon Sapphire to deal with depressed Ruby alone but he doesn't really know how to deal with it.
They can, at least, pick up some more apricorn balls. Emil smiles at the apricorn crafter awkwardly as he pays for three of them - honestly, it's just nice to find some for sale at all and not have to trek back to Saffron for them. He waves Ruby over to the stall. "Hey, Ruby, over here, I found a guy! You had that Pokémon you ran into you wanted to catch, right?"
He glances up at the sky curiously. "Getting kinda late, huh. Should we call it a day? If we go back out now I'm kinda worried it'll be dark before we get back."
