This was a predictable result. (Except for abruptly dropping Emil. Oops.) "It's okay, Ruby, I'm fine. Just... try to go a little slower, maybe? It's hard to keep up with you sometimes."

The distance from Ruby's arms to the ground isn't really enough time for Emil to get his feet under him, so he winds up on his butt in the dirt. Again. But at least she's put him down, right?
He stands up and dusts himself off, rubbing the small of his back while Ruby goes to comfort Sapphire. He flashes her a grateful, if slightly concerned smile - Emil isn't always the greatest at nuance, with how much time he spends alone, and he's not totally sure if Sapphire was genuinely distressed to be left alone or if she was just distracting Ruby.

Ruby looks over to Emil just in time to see him rubbing his back. "Oh! Sorry about that, Emi...I can get a bit carried away when it comes to my little sister..." She says sheepishly.

"It's okay." Making Ruby feel bad is probably not going to achieve anything. He sighs and shakes his head. "Anyway, I guess we can just go back to the inn for lunch? I don't know much about finding places to eat."
As they head for wherever they're going, he asks, "Did you two find any new Pokémon? I ran into this weird little water bug, he's got jillions of legs and he just scoots around on the sand munching stuff. He's kinda skittish or I'd show him to you now."

Sapphire shakes her head. "I found a weird little water spider Pokemon - not one of those bugs that skitters around on the surface, I mean, but an actual spider under the water, with a bubble around its head. Ruby tried to get its interest with food, but it ended up just wandering off. I think she found some other things too, though." Presumably her sister asked her for those apricorns for a reason, right?

Ruby smiles and puffs out her overly exposed chest. "I found a Jetset, a Jaws, a Sapphy! I couldn't get the Sapphy to join me this time, but I'll be going back tomorrow to try again!"

"Um. I'm pretty sure I'm right here..." Sapphire says, confused. Almost without thinking, she unfolds Ruby's coat and drapes it around her shoulders so she's decent. Closer to decent, anyway. "Wait, did you name a wild Pokemon after me?"

"Uh... wow, sounds like you were pretty successful at least. What kind of Pokémon are they? The Poké Tome calls Monkshood a 'Wimpod.'" Emil's not going to bother with subtlety anymore, since he's clear it's probably going to fly over Ruby's head, he's just going to flat-out ask her what Pokémon her nicknames correspond to. At least she's kind of dressed again and he can actually look at her without being embarrassed.

"Oh, a Buizel! I've seen those playing in the river - the little acrobatic guys. Seems like a Pokémon that would get along well with you." Emil scratches the back of his head. "Well, I gotta get my hands on some more apricorn balls before I can go hunting for more Pokémon, anyway. Sounds like you've had some good luck though."

"I bet they have good seafood here. Or... river... food? Stuff that comes out of the water. You know what I mean." Emil glances around as if a suitable restaurant is going to stand up and wave. "Best place for a restaurant's probably the town square? Or we could just go back to the inn and see if they serve lunch."
He sighs and shrugs. "Don't look at me, the only person in town I even know a little is Hero Clay, and I don't really know him. I met him like once."

Oops. Mentioning heroes in front of Ruby. He should have figured that'd be a bad move. Time to talk fast, or as fast as Emil ever does. "Hey, hey, hold on! I don't know if he's even here, he travels a lot between here and Pewter. And I don't wanna bother him, anyway. How am I gonna make it on my own if I go bother heroes every time I don't know what I want for lunch?"
Hero Clay intimidates Emil a little. Though to be honest, it's mostly that Emil found his enthusiasm a little overwhelming on the one occasion he did meet him. Kind of like Ruby, come to think of it.

"I really don't know if he's even here. He's probably out in the woods somewhere, I think he goes and lives with the Infernape sometimes. Or he could be in Pewter but that's like all afternoon to get there at least." If she keeps pressing Emil may resort to claiming he doesn't actually know where the mayor's house is, though that is kind of a thin justification considering it's probably still the fanciest house in town.
He glances at Sapphire desperately. C'mon, back me up here. He's trying to say no to Ruby but he's still not doing a very good job of asserting himself.
