Under the glancing gazes of the floating Pokémon, the trio makes their way towards the tapping noise. What greets them is a roughly-dressed man in hardy clothes, bent down, chiseling at a lower portion of the wall. He looks rather unkempt, with scraggly black hair going all around, and he's all dirty and dusty. Next to him are a quarter dozen of what appear to be fossils - what seems to be a feather, part of a jawbone, and a root of a plant - as well as a half-full bucket of stone. He seems to be almost muttering to himself as he works, absorbed in it all.
When Theo speaks, he looks up with a start, before bolting up and dusting himself off (to no noticeable effect). "Oh, hello," he says, staring at each person in turn, "been awhile since anyone's come down here… I'm the Fossil Maniac… I'm a nice guy who loves Fossils… Do you want a Fossil?"

Kai eyed the guy, taking note of how dirty he was, he must have been working for a while. The question caught him a little off guard, but he kinda wanted one, he wouldn't lie. "All the fossil Pokemon I've seen so far have been pretty cool, so uh, yes a fossil would be awesome!"

Cole narrowed his eyes.....for someone with so many fossils hoarded around just giving them away? Seems too good to be true. Also, saying that you're a nice guy? Suuuuper sketch. His hand hovered near Cayannes ball still as they were talking.
"Wait, you're just giving away fossils? What's the catch?"

Theodore looks between his two companions. "They're just rocks with ancient Pokemon imprinted on them right? That's kind of neat I guess..." He wasn't as sold as Kai, nor as suspicious as Cole.

The strange man chuckles. "But the Fossils around these parts all belong to me... None for you... If you can't bear to go without a Fossil, look in the desert where there are boulders and sand that may hide Fossils..." He almost doesn't seem to register the trainers when he speaks.
"Belong to me... None for you..." He just keeps muttering, and the Trainers notice that all of a sudden there seem to be a lot more of the floating eye creatures than there were a second ago. "B̶elong̵ to ͞m̧é.̡.̡." The Fossil Maniac seems to flicker for a second, his voice twisting, and in those moments the trio can see a skeleton, dressed in the same clothes as him, slumped up against the wall. The skull is laying twisted towards the Trainers, and they can almost swear that there's a distant light coming from within the hollow sockets.
"̛F́o̕ssi͜ĺs ͢are s͢o͢.̛.. Wond̛erful͟..." The Maniac says, still flickering in and out with the skeleton, "I͟t'̀s so҉ d̨r̵eam̷y...̕" The tunnel is thick with Unown now. There seems to be a lot more than the group passed coming in.

Cole begins to back up, especially when the unknown thicken and the man becomes bone. This was not good. Why had they decided to go in here? He didn't know what was worse between the flickering skeleton man, or the thousands of eyes on him. Eyes had really been bothering him lately, he still wasn't sure why. But then again, this might be an actual ghost. Everything since leaving Rustboro has been bad. Next time he would recommend following the girls
He began to usher the other two out first "Let's go, let's go. That's enough crazy ghost stuff for me today" If he was between them and it and it decided to attack, at least he had a way to defend them before getting a Pokemon out.

Kai ignores Cole's attempt to usher him immediately, even as the shiver runs down his spine. Even if the guy was dead and haunting or whatever was happening, he said he wanted those fossils, so he was gonna try for them! He was the fastest of them, so he went in to scoop up the three fossils that weren't in the bucket without even talking it over with the group.
He didn't like the look of the gathering Pokemon, but right now he just wanted to run, so with the fossils in his arm, he began trying to run out. "Let's get the heck out of here guys!"

"DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME TWICE!" Theodore clamped a hand down over his hat and hustled away from the desiccated bones and the drawing cloud of Unown. "MAMA DIDN'T RAISE NO COWARD BUT THIS AIN'T A FIELD TRIP NEITHER!" Visibly sweating, he glanced over his shoulder as they hurried down the corridor. Why would the town let some dangerous TRIPPY SHIT like this just sitting on their front lawn?!

As the group hustles away from the skeleton and the end of the corridor, the walls of the tunnel almost seem to fade away, falling into nothingness. The cavern floor is still there, a lit winding strip of brown stone, stretching long, long, long, twisting up and up and up. Following the ribbon with their gazes, a faint light can be seen far, far away and above... the exit. Unown of familiar and unfamiliar shapes float around in the air up, down, some staring, others mingling, words and phrases almost seeming to be spelled out. Despite the lack of light, everything that happens is clearly discernable somehow. Off in the distance, entire structures of what seem to consist of entirely Unown rise into the air, constantly fluctuating. 'Waves' of the creatures roll across the void down below at various heights, never showing a true bottom. Some of the creatures form into massed shapes that almost seem natural at first glance... but turn out to be entirely unnatural. Humanoids with too many joints, trees that writhe, and other stranger things. The fossils in Kai's arms suddenly become grainy, like static... and begin to drip down, like quicksilver, from his hands, draining off the edge, the weightless fuzz slipping into oblivion. Or... so it seems. All of a sudden a trio of large, monstrous creatures rise up from somewhere in the darkness, almost demonic in their appearances. A colossal reptilian, with an enormous biting jaw, taking position and seeming to literally swallow the pathway behind them... and the maw seems to be filled with very much teeth everywhere, even in places that it shouldn't have it. A tendrilous flower with whipping tentacles flowering from its head appears to the side of the path - it's similar to Roxanne's Cradily… but somehow off. And a flapping avian rises into the air above, talons sharp, letting out an inhuman - yet somehow all too human - screech. How this works: At the end of every one of your turns (except the first, as that's accounted for), you'll move forwards one space. Then the enemies will get to go. The Tyrantrum behind you will move forwards three spaces. The Cradilly off to the sides will attempt to grapple each participant (human or Pokémon), and prevent them from moving forwards while grappled. The Archeops will directly attack three participants for an injury.
Each Trainer and Pokémon can make an attack (Struggle or Move) on one of the foes, regardless of range. AoE attacks allow targeting two foes. Damaging the Cradilly forces it to release all creatures it has grappled. Damaging the Tyrantrum forces it to advance one space less. Damaging the Archeops causes it to make one less attack. Status effects roll a d20 at the start of the enemys' turns, and will count as damage on a roll of 15+ for each.
Being in the light space at the end of your turn means you escaped. Being in the darkness at the end of your turn means you... did not. Probably try not to be there. Map

"Six, if there were ever a moment fer you to bring yer A-Game it's now!" Theodore releases the massive tree far ahead of them, in the warped space it seems all the taller, with a bellow it whips that heavy crown far and wide, striking both the avian and the massive set of jaws. Theodore pants and glances around frantically.

Kai flails for a moment, trying to get the quicksilver off him before gaping at the horrors he had wrought. His hands searched his pockets as he stumbled forward, continuing to run for his life as he sent out Coronet. "Hit as many as you can and JUST KEEP HITTING!" The Alolan Ninetales didn't need anymore encouragement to blast things without warning, especially in this situation. It fired a beam of frost when the winged one came down to try and line up the strike with it and the t-rex gaining on them. Powder Snow VS Archeops and Tyrantrum Acc 19(18+1) AC 2 Freezes on 18+

Why did he have to do that? They could have just....left. Cole sighed and let Pepper loose beside him. She may only have one good shot in her, but it should help in the meantime. As she came out, Cole pointed as he was running " Hey I know its kind of a waste, but gettem with Pay Day" The Purrloin let loose a blast of gold as she kept pace with her trainer, getting both the swooping one and the set of jaws in one blast. 11 vs AC 2 Pay Day vs the Archeops and Tyrantrum

The combined forces of the attacks stagger the dinosaur, and manage to drive off the avian every time it tries to swoop. But the shadowy eldritch tendrils of the plant abomination snake up from either side of the platform, yellow eyes glaring banefully from below. Kai and Coronet manage to avoid getting ensnared, but Theo, Cole, and their 'mon aren't so lucky, feeling the chill tendrils beginning to wrap around them. Grapples contested checks (Athl or Combat): Theo: 15 Six: 11 Cole: 7 Pepper: 16
The scape around everyone continues to writhe and change, 'clouds' raining Unown in various directions, living mountain ranges shifting around, patterns appearing momentarily in the blackness. It's hard to concentrate on anything in articular, though, with the attackers present. The only constant is the tunnel floor still snaking ahead.

"Fellers if we survive this, can we burn the house down? I know it taint right, but in hindsight if'n a town is going to leave a death house just sittin' round, maybe someone aughta?"
Theodore and Six both fight their hardest against the bindings that hold them, but to no avail. They can't escape to move forward no matter how loud the tree bellows.

Cole seems to smoke for a second as he breaks free of the tendrils and kicks back hard at the source, helping the others get out in the process. " Maybe. But maybe fire is a bad idea right now?" He blushes a little bit as he points to the endless teeth "T hat one Pepper, I'm gonna need you to get that one." The Liepard bat at the monster before running forwards. Cole gets a 14 vs the 7 for his Grapple and is free. Pepper fails with an 11 vs 16.
Cole uses a Struggle with a 13 vs AC4 on the Cradily
Pepper uses Pursuit on the Tyrantrum with a 7 vs AC 5

"Burning it down sounds nice, but first! Keep up the onslaught Coronet!" Kai keeps his pace with no hesitation, Only stopping briefly to swing his fist at the giant bird as it flew close to him, trying to stop it from striking him. Coronet let's out a shimmering sound, firing off a brilliant blast of light at the bird and reptile. Kai Struggle VS Archeops ACC 12 AC 4 Coronet Used Dazzling Gleam VS Tyrant + Archeops ACC 3 AC 2

The lingering ice and the strikes of the Liepard seem to keep the snapping giant jaws at pace, while Cole's strike causes the tendrils wrapping them to let go temporarily and withdraw. They aren't gone for long, though, as the tentacles snake back up, this time finding sticky purchase on everyone but Coronet, whose light seems to push back the horror... but nothing much else. Even Six finds tendrils winding up his neck. The bird, too, though dissuaded briefly from attacking Kai, it swoops down and rakes gashes in both Theo and Cole's cat. It's clear as it flies close that in its beak are teeth. Why does a bird need teeth? Dazzling Gleam misses. Freeze deals an additional hit to Tyrantrum. Grapple checks - Theo: 19, Six: 15, Cole: 12, Pepper: 11, Kai: 13 Theo and Pepper each take an injury from Archeops.

Kai shrugged his way out of the tentacles, glaring at the source of them and attempting to shove them away from the others with a kick to the mass of them. "I'm so sorry about this, but how was I supposed to expect... THIS?!"Coronet let's out a whine, lining up a shot between the tentacled horror and the one charging them in the back, firing off a blast of powdery snow at the both of them. Once more the Exeggutor's head whips about on it's long neck, freed from the Cradily with Coronet's help. Theodore takes a swipe at the bird the next time it comes close. "Ain't nobody blaming nobody, and we don't talk about this to no one after we're out, s'all just a bad dream!"

Cole was quiet as he fought off the flying monstrosity and Pepper struck out at the jaws again. Yeah, Theo was right. This had to just be a nightmare. He would wake up back in Rustboro and things would go back to normal. And if it wasn't? Well Kai couldn't hold whatever he did against him anymore after causing THIS Hit on both Archeops and Tyrantrum
