"Eight meters or so, Kupo..." Kupdi muttered with displeasure. "A bad day to have fur, friends. Treize will avail me not here, old boy isn't much of a swimmer, perhaps it time to give the strange one we caught in the caves a chance. A small gigas, I think it is."

"That might work." Ethais was no stronger a swimmer than Kupdi and not much taller, either. She pulled out the crystal containing her own creature from the cave, who she'd dubbed Leroy. "They certainly have plenty of muscle."
She tapped the side of her snout. "But let's get over to the pond and try to get a look at the thing, first. I have another idea, but it would require this thing in the pond to be a very specific sort of object." Namely, the magnetic sort. If it was mostly iron, she could rig up a device using Kupek's magnetic field that might help pull it up, given some time. Of course, that wouldn't help so much if it wasn't metal.

The clan is able to make good time with Myst as a scout, the Aegyl finding the clearest trail by taking to the skies. Upon reaching the 'Pond' they realize it's really more of a small lake, stretching a little ways into the distance. While they could see the other side, it isn't like they could throw a rock and hit the opposite shore.
At first the surface of the water seemed serene, the clear blue water being illuminated orange by the sun dipping on the horizon. But as a leaf from a tree on the shoreline fell and landed on it, the water seemed to roil, and a moment later a fish like Pokemon lurched out of the water, all gnashing teeth and writhing scales. It seemed the pond wasn't as calm as it looked.

"Well, that doesn't look good," Myst says, as they reach the body of water. "the fish are certainly... biting. I wonder if there's a way to get them to come out. Water-based Yarhi don't tend to do as well on land. At least not the ones lacking legs." She thinks. "I don't know how we'll be able to tell if we've got them all in any case... this is pretty big place, all things considered."

".... Whatever it is, is aggressive enough and near enough the surface I may be able to strike it with a well timed thrust." Kupdi moved nearer the water, with the small Gygas beside him. "Ethias, if you would disturb the water with your cannon, we can proceed. The center of the pond should suffice Kupo."

"Kupopo! I'm not sure about this plan." Ethais looks out over the pond dubiously. "Though perhaps if we could capture one it could be of some assistance." On the other hand, she doesn't have a better plan, not right on the tip of her tongue. She mouths to Myst Be ready to pull him out.
Then she sends a shot arcing out over the water to splash in the center of the pond.

As the cannon shot splashes loudly towards the center of the water, the surface tension breaks and a small school of the same Pokemon jump out, doing their best to tear the air itself apart. However the water didn't calm down after they left it and a few moments later a much, much larger creature burst forth. When the creature left the pond the water level itself seemed to shrink a few inches.
For a split second while the beast is out of the pond, a slight glow can be seen from the center of it...

Kupdi inhaled deeply, Aether rippling into his small muzzle in motes and ribbons of a vibrant lively pink, before emitting a single, surprisingly gentle note. "Well," Myst addresses Kupdi dryly, "I don't think that your plan's going to work... kupo." That's a big thing. And fighting it in the middle of out there is not a good idea.
"New idea. Lemuréa can dip her feet in a bit. I imagine that'll probably lure... well, hopefully only a few... towards her. And she's sturdy. So, that'll probably be our best bet. If it doesn't work, we can try something else."

Ethais watches the glow in the Esper's belly for the moment it's visible, her furry brow furrowing. "It does make things a little simpler that the beast appears to have swallowed this... thing that's probably causing the problem, kupo. At least, if having to fight it is better than having to get the object out of the pond. So what we need to do is get the big one in particular to somewhere that we can deal with it."
She scratches her head thoughtfully, glancing from Myst to the water. "Kupopo! I'm not sure I really like the idea of using our companions as bait. These fish react so much just to motion that I could probably just fire another shot into the water and bring them up. Or we could run back to town and find a butcher we can get some scraps from for what's-it-called... chum. Though we'll probably wind up fighting half the pond either way..." She gives a discontented little huff. Using one of their Espers as bait would save a shell, but on the whole she'd rather use the shell and not risk them being in trouble for the actual fight.

"Well," Myst says, "We're here now, so we might as well try. Worst case scenario, we see the white mages." She releases Lemuréa from her crystal, before instructing the turtle, "Go up to the water, stick your foot in, and just... be ready for the fish. They seem fierce, but you can do this."

As the little grassy turtle places her foot into the shallows, the ripples cross the entirety of the pond. For a moment, it went back to being still until ripples began returning back from the other side. Quickly fins raised from the water and a small school of the fanged fish begin to make their way for the Turtwig. She has just a moment to get out of the water before they get to her. Acrobatics or Athletics from Lemurea please

The recently-evolved Grotle isn't fast enough to avoid getting a chomp on the leg, though she does get ready to unleash a barrage of leaves in retaliation at the thing trying to make a meal out of her. Myst gathers up her mana, before swooping to do a fly-over attack of the Yarhi attacking her companion. There are a lot of them, but they just need to concentrate on taking down a few at a time. (Initiative 15) Myst uses Aerial Ace as a Pass. 24 Physical Flying Damage.
(Initiative 6) Lemuréa uses Razor Leaf before Disengaging. 10 vs AC 3, for 39 Physical Grass damage in a Cone 2.

"...That is the wrong inflection, and rude Myst... Kupo! Ethias and I will explain later." Kupdi grumbles, Ethias using it was bad enough, he didn't need the Aegyl butchering it on top of that. He waited at the ready to see if the plan panned out in bringing the mass closer to shore and waited.

Ethais frowns. That's what she was afraid of - they'd put Lemurea in danger and attracted plenty of the small fish, but the big one seemed not to be paying much attention just yet. "I don't know if it just doesn't want to come into the shallows or if a footstep isn't enough bait, kupo."She taps a finger against her snout thoughtfully, trying to think of anything she knows about ichthyoids that might help her bring the big Esper closer. Sadly, monsters aren't exactly her specialty... she'll have to read up on them more if she's going to be solving these problems regularly. But she should offer Myst some help, too. Neither Kupek nor Leroy seem like good fighters at long range, but she can offer some fire support herself. ... Or try to, anyway, as her missed shot splashes into the water harmlessly. As Myst flies through, causing a few of the fish to screech in anger, two of them helplessly jumping up to try and snap at her, though their scales do tear into her arm a bit as she moves past. The other two turn their attentions to the Grotle, both biting down on her front legs, teeth sinking in, even if just barely. However in a blink the group that had been attacking Lemurea was floating on their backs before dissipating into Mist, a few fangs and fins being the only remains to show that anything had even been there a moment before. Her leaves seemed to pack quite the punch in this circumstance. Before the group could cheer too much however, the giant beast begins to move towards them. Ethais is able to surmise that attacking the members of its school most likely angered it. With another surge of water the beast lept into the air before firing things off towards the water near them, which quickly prove to be more of the smaller fish! Myst takes two ticks of damage from Rough Skin
Lemurea gets bit twice, once dealing 27 dark physical damage and once dealing 30 dark physical damage, both before defenses.
We are back at the top of initiative

Myst inhales as the fish score her arm. Ouch. It's at times like this that she wishes that she was able to channel her mana into less… close forms of energy. But her beating is nothing compared to the one Lemuréa took, with all the gnashing and biting. She's impressed by the Yarhi's power, at taking down the whole swarm... but there are yet more to come. Lemuréa stands fast against the tide, once more attempting to unleash a storm of leaves... but it's clear that the prior attacks took a toll on it. Myst uses Splash to move back, and uses Agility Training. Lemurea is now Initiative 10, if it matters.
Lemurea uses Razor Leaf again. 5 vs AC 3, for 46 Physical Grass damage.

Titan 17 Kupdi 8
While Kupdi remains close to shore, Titan wades into the shallows to engage the enemy fish, lashing out with an impressive knife-hand chop. The Moogle ignites his sword with his Aether and strikes across the water.

"Leroy, kupo! Give them a hand out there! See if you can break its speed a little!" Ethais isn't any fonder of swimming than Kupdi, especially not in her heavy protective leathers, which is itself a bit of a problem since her electrical mode for her cannon has a very short range. But she can send her own little gigas in to aid Kupdi's, and arc shots over his head. Leroy obligingly wades out into the water, though he aims for a different fish than the one engaged with Titan - he can't get far enough around that one to make it split its attention. Instead he aims himself at the next closest fish, the one Kupdi has just sent a wave of power at, and strikes out at its fins with his powerful arms. As Leroy wades out, Ethais sends a shot out in the third fish's direction, hoping to lure it close enough in to catch it and one of its fellows with a canister round later. Titan manages a rough strike on the fish, causing the fish to struggle in place for a moment, its scales tearing into the humanoid. Before it had too much of a chance to retaliate, it was struck down by the hail of leaves from Lemurea. The one who was struck by Leeroy was given a similar treatment before biting the the Machop, catching it completely off guard. The last one moved forward and struck out at Titan, giving it an especially brutal wound and causing it to flinch in pain. Ethais was able to catch it with a hit while it was moving towards the other Machop. The group didn't have much of a chance to settle before the giant shadow moved forwards and surfaced. On initial inspection it looked like the smaller fish, however after looking at it for more than a second it became obvious that it was made up of a large number of the fish banding together into the huge form. Deep within it was the glow once more. Titan and Leeroy both take a tick from Rough Skin and are flinched from Bite. Titan takes 30 physical Dark damage and Leeroy takes 51 from a critical hit.
