"Ah. I... see," Thel says, trying to take this in. Humans are more and more peculiar to him as time goes on. There's not just... taking things? For the stronger - or at least the stronger group -to prevail? It's something that he'll have to get used to. "And what does one use to trade for this item?"

"Gathering corpses is silly anyways." Muku declares. "It's best just to clean it up the best you can before someone bigger finds it."
For now, she moves into the room that the Nurse Joy had set aside for eating. To be truthful, Starly weren't big meat eaters; at least not right away. Soft fleshy berries were their first pick, though Hoppips of course were usually soft enough for them to manage. Staravia were much better consuming meat, so they could take down larger, tougher prey if they had to. Sometimes, if the older birds were felt like they had food to share, they would share with the younger Starlys would share a bit of digested matter. It was always nice. A fond memory.
Looking to her companions in the other room, she had to wonder. Would she have to regurgitate any food for them? It was so hard to know how old any of them were in this form but, they all seemed maybe a little bit older? Save for Em, maybe. And that was a big maybe. Humans were hard to tell, though she did know that little humans were much smaller. She'd had seen them before, hanging out in the woods and sitting around fire, eating human food. None of them had been puking down each others throats however, so maybe that was a distinctly bird experience.
Her lips pursed. She needed to eat too. Eat and become stronger. She muscles in on what the moral equivalent of a berry tree is and smashes her face in it. The food sloshed and rolled around unpleasantly, and her thick tongue was no use. Man... Why was eating so tough?

Hmm, warmed food, the thought was foreign to Omega but he went to where she pointed. "Muku, I was the something bigger" The once wolf says with a laugh as they walk.
Upon reaching the warming plates Omega sniffed at each of the plates, trying to find something that suited his pallete, before two things stood out. One he could tell was some sort of meat, just covered with two strange squishy things on the top and bottom, and other things thrown on top of it. This he quickly devoured, surprised when a gush of red squirted out with his first bite and a strange new sensation hit his tongue. This was nothing like the meat of a fresh kill. He looked at his empty hands moments later, already wishing he had more but turning his attention to the other item he had picked up.
A berry sat on top, and that was what first piqued his interest, but the item itself had a strange odor, not something he recognized. The base of the food was spongey, but between it and the berry was some sort of paste. Delicately poking it with a finger, he hesitantly tasted the paste was greeted by a flavor that wasn't like anything he had ever tasted. It was like all of the best parts of a berry were mixed up and placed together. Upon taking a bite of the spongey bit as well, he was surprised to find that it also had a similar flavor. He thought that the meat thing was going to be the best thing he had tasted all day, but this....this was a whole different level.
Once the food was gone, he sat back content, not realizing a bit of frosting had found its way onto his nose.

"The League is at the center of the economy, typically one earns money through winning battles against other trainers, and more substantial amounts by challenging and defeating gyms. Some people sell goods or provide services, like cooking food or making potions or Pokeballs." Joy explained, following Thel to the edge of the cafeteria to keep an eye on Muku and Omega. The strange kids had already made a mess of one window, but she didn't want to be rude about it. Em remained in the main room and observed the recovery machine, and Kursz joined Omega and Muku in their repast.

"I see..." Thel says, trying to parse through everything. It's a strange world, but not entirely different upon reflection. People fight not for direct survival, but for survival nonetheless. It's something that he can understand, at least.
But, there's another thing that warrants attention. The food here. There's... so much of it. Almost all unfamiliar, and "I'm sorry, Lady Joy, did you say that this food doesn't require 'payment'? What part am I allowed to have?" He's realizing how hungry he is... but he also knows that he should not take more than his due. That way lies pain and even more hunger.

When Omega approached the food cart, Muku took a step back to observe. He was using his... Talons? No! Hands. Hands... Why was that so hard to understand? Anyways, he was using his 'hands' to bring to the food to his face, not the other way around. Somehow, that made sense. A lot more sense. She picks up a broad faced purple berry with her hands and takes a bite in a similar manner.
That of course, was super-effective! A... A somewhat squashed tasting rot rolls in and her tongue goes a bit numb. This was dry. Really dry. Blech! She puts the remains of the bland disaster back into the tray where it belongs. Omega seems to be enjoying his food a lot. Oh! Maybe he found the good stuff? Muku sidles over silently and watches as he takes a bite of some sort of... Ok no. There was no word for what he was eating. It was strange, but it looked really, really good.
But it wasn't Starly food. So, Muku goes back to what she now understood as a fruit bar and tried to find a few other picks that weren't so nasty. Once a few items are 'foraged' into a nearby bowl of sorts, she perches onto a chair and digs in with a particularly dour expression.

Once he finished up his food, Omega stood up and walked over to where Thel and Joy were and cocked his head "So how do I go about being the strongest one of these 'Trainers' like that pup Gold and the one he called Lance." There was no hint of humor or sarcasm in his voice, Omega was entirely sincere in his question.
"Trainers are the ones who hold the power right? So if I become a powerful one, I can find more about the people that did this to us" and finally be more than an Omega, he thought to himself before continuing "But if places like this give out food and shelter, then I don't have to focus on staying alive, just getting between these places. I can search for the strongest Pokemon and bring them under my control like I did with the Fang in the ball. But how do I get others to recognize my strength?"

Joy gave Thel a half smile, only the vaguest indication that she was confused where that logic might stem from, and again reminded herself that these were not normal children even if they might look it. "Tonight you can eat until you're full, and again in the morning. Take care not to over-indulge, you'll get sick, and eating too much in the long term causes weight gain and other health issues." That satisfied, she turned to head back to the healing machine, only to have Omega verbally pounce on her from behind. "After trainers have been issued their licenses by someone certified to give them, typically a Pokemon Professor, you can attempt the gym circuit. A gym is sort of like..." She tapped her cheek, head tilted in thought. "A den, where strong trainers settle so that people can find them and test themselves. They award you tokens that show how far you've come. With enough, you can challenge the strongest in the region. Lance was the former... Alpha of the region?"

Thel's eyes widen. He feels like he must be dreaming, or something. He can eat as much as he wants? Truly, Lady Joy must be successful and powerful indeed if she can afford to let those not part of her family eat that much...
He doesn't ask twice, though, to give her the opportunity to deny him the food, and immediately heads for the food. He doesn't recognize any of it, and it all smells weird yet somehow... tantalizing. He doesn't really give too much consideration or initial notice to what he's eating... but everything tastes so different. Who could have thought there was this much flavour in the world? Sure, there was a range of bugs, but they all tasted some degree of 'insect'. These? The things here were all so unique. He could get used to this...
For the first time in his life, too, he realized that he'd reached a point where he couldn't stand to take another bite. It's an odd feeling. And vaguely disappointing, because there's so much more that he wants to try. And other things that he wants more of. ...and things that he could have done with less of. But not as many of those as he would have expected.

Muku watched on with a truly horrified expression as she watches Thel stuff food after food into his maw over and over with a terrifyingly fast gait. The nurse had said that they could eat anything... But goodness! That was a LOT of food.
"Em," She says, turning to her closest companion. "I think I'm a little worried about Thel. T-they didn't starve him in the lab or anything, did they?"

"So if I go to these dens, and beat the Betas who are in there, then I can collect these tokens and become the Alpha..." Omega nodded along until the end, where he trailed off in thought.
"This proffessor who can give me this....License. He is the one that the Gold pup told us about, yes? Then what is the fastest way for those without wings to find him? Is he roving in the forests, or does he have a den?"
He had decided. He would collect these tokens and become the Alpha of the humans. And then he could decide what to do from there.

Em had joined the three sitting in the eating area. Like Muku, she had some concerns about how much food Thel was consuming. She couldn't imagine being so voraciously hungry, but at the same time, not much appealed to her in the 'buffet'. She had put a series of brown wafers with uneven surfaces on her plate. They were slightly sweet, but not overly so, and had a soft, crumbly texture. She nibbled on one hesitantly before putting it down on the stack of them. "No, Muku, Thel got fed the same as the rest of us so we didn't eat each other..." She was just as puzzled as her friend.
Kursz, like Thel, was putting away food at an alarming rate. This was nothing new. As a Wimpod, he was constantly eating, whenever he could. It allowed for his incredible speeds and prolonged periods of hiding!
"Well, the fastest way would be to head east through the Ice Cave, then south from the city there, but the road is perilous and your Pokemon might not be up to dealing with the dangers along the way. The safe way would take you across most of the region before you arrived at your destination, it's quite a loop. I wouldn't even consider going through the wilds, unpathed territories are unsafe for humans." Joy replied after confirming Omega's statement.

"Ah..." Thel says, satisfied, as he finishes eating, joining the others. "Lady Joy must surely be successful if this is what she's able to provide to those even not of her den. Not even on the days of the most bountiful hunts while I was in the best favour with the Lady was I ever able to eat like this. And the tastes. Surely eating must be the human's greatest experience, if they have such variety in it..."
As for direction and travel... well, that's not his place to decide. Hopefully whichever path they take has more food like that along the way, and they're generous enough to let him have some. 'Ice' cavern sounds... fairly devoid of all that. And cold. He doesn't like cold. Especially now that he's not as warm.

Omega scratched the back of his head "I know the forests well, but maybe not in this form....hmmm"
He breathed deeply and then looked to his small pack of ragtag misfits "I don't think taking this 'safe' loop is what we should do." He shook his head and paced a little "We were once of the wilds, and so I think we're better suited for making it through them than any regular human would be. This Ice Cavern doesn't sound so bad, not if we keep out of hunting paths and bow our heads when we need to. And if all else fails us, we can turn tail and run"
He stopped and crossed his arms "I say that we go through it, but all should speak before we go any way"

Muku shot Em a crinkled look of concern, then glanced at Thel. If he ate too much, then he wouldn't be able to fly, and that was bad! Or well. None of them could fly. They were all too fat. Muku lifted up one of her arm and grabbed a bit of flab. Mostly lean meat. But no feathers or flappy bits, and she had never seen a human with feathers! Well. There was that one human, but he used other birds to fly and made everyone else nervous. She shook her head, she didn't want to worry about that guy right now.
Thel was coming over at any rate, and Muku quietly made room to receive him. "I think the human food was ok... But it's hard to know what to eat." Muku says quickly. "Some of the food looks normal, like the eating berries or the Greenleaf, but the little brown things with the white stuff on top is something I know I've never seen before."
"Maybe that's why humans are so... Common." She postulates. "They are so many, because they must know how to make secret foods that Pokémon don't know how to make."

"Humans... aren't like Pokemon. We aren't born able to defend ourselves, or knowing what we're capable of. Human young are called 'babies', and as new humans you are very much the same. You may have found success in finding Kursz, but even with simple things such as windows, or a small group of Pokemon, you got hurt. Ice Cave is very cold, and filled with strong Pokemon, please... as human children, be safe? Do not do anything brash, Omega... or your pack will not survive." Joy pressed, pulling Kursz and Em's attention to the conversation. Quiet fell over the room.

"If we have the option between 'dangerous' and 'safe'," Thel says, "I would much prefer safe, all other things being equal. Risking things is all well and good when it is your survival or favour on the line... but, unless Lady Muku or Lady Em have other ideas, I would much rather go the warmer route with probably less things that wish to kill us."

"I do prefer... Warmer things." Muku says, voice barely rising above a whisper. She didn't want to make Omega mad but caves, ice, and bird Pokémon didn't mix. It was hard enough on the First Flocks who flew across the mighty spine mountains to the north, let alone a poor fledgling like herself!

Omega grumbled, more of a growl really, but nodded. He didn't think it through, they were the same as pups, eyes freshly open and legs barely working. The one known as Joy was right. They had been hurt by weak first forms and the opening to the outside.
"Right.....We should go the safe way....stick to the....roads?" He thinks that was the right term.
Shaking his head he turns back to Joy "Thank you for speaking with such wisdom. You are right. I need to think of the pack as a whole, and not myself"

Joy, Em, and Kursz all seem much relieved after the positive turn the discussion takes. No one truly wanted to be in danger, but even the notion of it being a conscious choice was a strange one. When the healing machine finishes, each trainer's Pokemon are returned, and shortly after it is time to retire to bed. As she has done with many things, Joy patiently explains how beds work. Muku seems to be a natural at bed, though none of the positions she is used to are comfortable in a blanket nest. The rest take to it with mixed enthusiasm.
"Anymore questions before I turn the lights out for the night?"
(Lights out will signal the end of the chapter and the beginning of a new day.)
