Welcome (back) to the world of Pokémon!
Thirty years have passed since the "olden days", when only 150(1) species of pokémon were known, and Pallet was just a small little town whose most notable feature was the Pokémon Laboratory. Back then, the "Legendary Trainers", Red and Blue, set records by demolishing the eight Gyms of Kanto and sweeping through the Elite Four to claim the title of "Champion"; Team Rocket was put to bed once and for all, the list of events goes on. In the years since, technology levels have increased dramatically, and more and more species of Pokémon were discovered in other regions of the world. These days, you probably wouldn't even recognize Pallet Town for what it used to be. What hasn't changed though, is the desire to see the world, meet new people and Pokémon, and generally just fulfill your dreams of being a "Pokémon Master" (whatever that term means to you). Are you ready? Let's get started!

Hey folks! Welcome back to my ubiquitous recruitment thread(s)! I'm your host, Raven! Lately, I've found that Group B of my "Playtest" or "New Age Kanto" campaign is slowing down a bit, and I've just recently had a player inform me that they, unfortunately, are feeling burned out on the campaign and must leave. As such, I'm down to just one "actual" player in the group (GMPC doesn't count, obviously). Thus, I have decided that it's high time I went on another recruiting spree! Details are found below.
~~Recruitment will close on April 2nd.~~
**NOTICE!**
If you've been around these forums long enough, you may have seen my campaign go through several different recruitment waves over the past few years (yes, that's right, I said years). So you may wonder "well, why don't you just edit/bump up your original recruitment post? I saw it on page 2 of this forum!" The reason for that is that this is a separate group from that post, in a separate "universe" if you will, and that other thread is kind of cluttered with all my edits and various recruitment waves. So, to keep it clean and easy to read, I've started a new thread.
**END OF NOTICE**
Setting: Kanto, 30 years after the events of R/B/Y.
Notable campaign features:
Trainers are a minimum of 16 years old, but may otherwise be any age. This is due to the new Kanto Champion raising the minimum age at which one can go on a Pokemon Journey and challenge Gyms unaccompanied. Trainers below this age may still travel, but must be accompanied by an adult of 21 years or older.
You will begin play with 6 Milestones, 58 Dex XP (before adding anything new), and 190 Misc XP (This is ~TL 31-32). Dex XP is shared among the group, with a dedicated google sheet to track it (though there are often times when we need to review it if numbers don't line up). Of the Milestones, a maximum of 3 of them are Gym Badges.
You may have up to a full team of 6 Pokemon with you, but these 6 will replace previous dex entries of older players in order to avoid inadvertent level creep. This also applies to new Pokemon captured after joining the game until all previous entries have been replaced. One of your Pokemon must be a 3-stage, non-Psuedo Pokemon. This is your designated "Starter", and will always obey you (see "Obedience" in the Rules thread linked above). Your Pokemon team should be an average level of 37-40.
Money! Everyone loves money. You start with 7000 Poke Yen, a Pokedex, and 6 Great Balls. If you need a crafting kit for your class, you get it for free. Your Starter gets 1 Egg/Tutor/Inheritance Move of your choice using the Playtest restrictions depending on when they could have acquired it.
Allowed Sources:
- B&D is out. I use it for "lore" purposes to describe Legendary Pokemon, and may use Legendary Auras if the party ever challenges one in the Wild.
- All other books (except Alola! None of that!) are in play, with the exception of the Jailbreaker and Glitch Bender classes. I don't use those. GoT (Game of Throhs) is recommended for all your Trainer Combat needs, but not required in the least. Playtest rules are in effect, minus the capture rules. Those are still the classic d100.
- Additionally, I am using some fan-made "edits/fixes" to PTU's stuff by a Pokemon Tabletop Forums user named "Thrice". These "fixes" can be found here.
Other Notes/Links:
You might have noticed that this recruitment ad has both the Skype and Discord tags. There is a reason for this. I normally use Skype for all things related to my various games (at least the ones I run), but I've noticed that a lot of people dislike it for any number of reasons. Thus, for the recruitment, at least, I will be using Discord. When final selections are made, I will call for a vote among those joining on whether or not to continue to use Discord, or to return to using the Skype chat that I already have set up. I do not require people to join the discord chat, but I strongly recommend it so you can meet other potential players and bounce around ideas.
I'm looking for 2-3 players currently. This game is intended to go all the way to the League and beyond, depending on player interest. Currently, the only remaining player is a Trickster/Researcher (Artificier/unknown)/Fashionista/Provocateur. The GMPC is a Martial Artist/Enduring Soul/Researcher (Generalist/Pokemon Caretaking).
The Gyms may be challenged in any order, with the exception of Gyms 7&8 (Cinnabar and Viridian), which require all of the previous badges to be earned before a challenge is accepted. However, the "recommended" order is Pewter -> Cerulean -> Vermillion -> Fuschia/Celadon -> Saffron -> Cinnabar -> Viridian.
Backgrounds are a requirement, but please, no novels. A couple of paragraphs is fine, as long as it gets the point across. If you're from a different region, please include why you chose to come to Kanto for your Journey. Beyond that, anything goes.
* - Delta Species Pokemon are not widely available. They're completely unknown to 90% of people and are plot-relevant.
** - As (should be) mentioned in the Rules thread, Full Contact Gym Battles are only required for Vermillion and Cinnabar, but come with many extra bonuses if you go through with them. On a related note, on occasion you might be able to learn about a "hard mode" version of a Gym, which comes with more of that sweet, sweet XP if you can manage to defeat it.
One other thing: This is a semi-high-power campaign, as almost all of the Gym Leaders have ways of covering their major type weaknesses and utilize items/food buffs.

Setting: Kanto, 30 years after the events of R/B/Y.
Notable campaign features:
- A brand new roster of Gym Leaders and Elite Four!
- Gym Challenges have an optional** Full-Contact Mode, but Elite Four/Champion Battles require it.
- Plenty of Fakemon exist, most notably the 'Delta Species'* Pokemon from Pokemon Insurgence. This also includes Fakemon Mega Evolutions. Many of these are also taken from Pokemon Insurgence, but aren't necessarily related to the Delta Pokemon.
- Legendary Pokemon Encounters! If you know where to look, or are extremely lucky, you might just stumble across a Legend! Hell, sometimes they'll even find you!
Required Reading:
You'll find a full list of House Rules here. There are a lot, so please, take your time and read through them carefully. If you have questions, please ask and I'll try to clear up any confusion.
Recommended Reading:
While not required, it's advised that you read through the campaign thread for the group (same sub-forum as my main group), but you can also get a general idea of what happened here.
And now, on to the crunchy goodness! The stuff you've all been waiting for!
