"Hmph..." He grumbled and reluctantly shook John's hand. "Yeah, I thought so too." Mayor Burton came up to John and gave him a stack of bills, strapped together.
He said, "And here is your prize money of $1000!"

With the fight officialy over Keno ducked under the rope barrier to join John. "Nicely done. You want to pop in to heal Arach up, then we'll see what the world has to offer?"
Keno though that John did very well, suppressed in the back of his mind was a twinge of jelousy, believing he too could have bested the Russel beast.

After thanking the Mayor for the price money John turned to Keno,"Yea, lets go heal this lil' guy up. He took a beating but is stronger than he looks." Pausing. "nice jacket by the way, think i may need to get me one, and I am in need of materials to make more pokeballs." Pausing, "So the center, then a small shopping trip and out to see the world?"

Tori wasn't particularly interested in the battle itself aside from the handy distraction it provided; she'd seen much flashier fights on TV. These two were obviously amateurs. But her attention snapped to the telltale sign of cold hard cash as the winner was handed a fat stack of bills. One thousand smuckers! She'd known there was money in the Trainer business, but if Tori'd had any clue even newbie Pokemon wranglers made that kind of bank she would've swung a forged License or something years ago! Forget lifting pocket change and leftovers, she could eat for a week on that kind of cash if she was smart about it.
"Hey hey, I'll fight you next!" Tori called, waving her hand out as she tried to shove to the front of the crowd, but she was way too short to draw much attention and her voice was lost in the general chatter of people discussing the match. She did draw a chuckle from someone, turning to glare at the older-looking guy behind her.
"Give the kid a chance to lick his wounds," he suggested gamely with a tilted smile, "or at least recover his pride a bit." Tori rolled her eyes and changed tactics, making a beeline for the kid that'd just made off with a thousand bucks. Probably the smarter move to stick with the winner anyways, right? Maybe she could learn something from him. Worst case, she might borrow a little of his new fortune. What was he gonna do with all that anyways? Tori could put it to better use.
She could see him chatting with a friend as she got closer, and suddenly remembered her conversation with the Sequoia. Hadn't he mentioned one of his errand boys had a spidery kinda Pokemon? Taking a gamble, she put on a friendly face and approached with a wave. "Yo! Hey, you guys Sequoia's new... interns?" She produced her fancy new smartphone by way of ID - most expensive piece of equipment she'd ever been given, and she couldn't help clutching it like it was fragile. "I ran kinda late. Dude said we oughta stick together. Right? Name's Tori." Pocketing the phone quickly, she ducked her head a bit. "Uh, and... nice throwdown, yeah? Haven't taken a stab at it yet, personally." Good mix of sincere and bashful there. Nailed it.

Oliver looked down to make sure there was no one below him and then dropped from his perch. Rolling with the impact, he got down with little more than a grunt as he rolled forward. It was a bit trickier without a mat. But from the looks of things, people were starting to mingle on the former battlefield.
Adjusting his cloak, the teen tried to cut through the dispersing crowd. The bug and the blue mon were hurt so chances were that their next stop was to the center. Honestly that would probably be a better spot to catch them in.
It was probably for the best that he hadn't gotten involved. He would have tried to fight himself, and the mayor had just said that wasn't in the rules. He still thought that was unfair. But there wasn't much he could do argue it.
As he did, he saw someone with their own mon out. Green, Grass or Bug usually, right? "Did your..." he took a picture for the Dex app and waited to see if it would tell him. "Right that, did your mon want to see the battle too? I didn't think many Grass types could deal with the cold that well." Then Oliver smiled with a bit of pride. "Well, except Blitzen of course! But he's just awesome."

Barry watched the battle play out half in awe, and half dumbfounded. He loved the exchange between the fighters, but he was still messing with his new pokedex. After scanning and getting information from the Arachnut, he spent the next thirty seconds trying to find out why he could not get anything from the Bagon. He tried turning the devise upside down and then scanning Sitri and going back to Bagon just to end up failing again. By the time he gave up, the fight had already ended!
"It's over? But I...how...Did you see what happened?" He poked at Sitri. The Turtwig was fully withdrawn inside her shell and still appeared to be shivering. Barry noticed the cold of course, but didn't quite take into consideration that Sitri was used to warm barns in hay bales next to the fire types and nurturing Pokemon the farm owned. "You could just go back in the ball ya know. It's warmer there." Barry said almost mockingly to the Turtwig. That earned him a bop on the head from a foot that poked out just long enough to do so and then get sucked right back up into the shell. He chuckled and muttered, "Eh suit yourself. We'll go inside in a minute."
Barry scanned the crowd and looked for the match's winner. That little Arachnut was a powerhouse to take on an opponent basically twice its size. He was about to head in Jon's direction when he was stopped by a boy that Barry had just seen...tumble out of a tree. It wasn't a fall, and it wasn't a jump, but more graceful than both. He listened to Oliver's introduction and replied, "Ahh this here is Sitri. She right hates being cooped up in a ball so I just let her be. I don't know if she wanted to watch the fight or just be out more. As for the cold though, the little princess was raised in a toasty barn with warm hay bales though, little snot just refuses to go back in the warm ball." This of course earned him yet another bop on the head with a muffled "Twig twig!" barely heard over the crowd. Barry lets out a hearty chuckle at the reply and extends a hand. "Name's Barry. My family runs the SolLuna orchard just outside of town. I'm curious, what's this Blitzen you speak of? One of yours?" Barry asks questioningly.

Oliver nodded. "Yeah, I got a good seat," he said, nodding over to the tree he had been sitting in. "The Apricorn mon got some advantage when it slowed the opponent down. The fire also kept it warm, but almost took it out of the fight too. If that blue mon had used ember the second time, it would have been a different fight." Oliver shrugged after giving his analysis.
Then Oliver looked back at the crowd and grimaced. "Blitzen's my Starter. A Deerling, but he's big enough that some people might get mad at him for blocking up the street. I think they're just jealous." Then his face lit up again. "But what's awesome about him is that his ability changes by the season! And in Winter he gets more resistant to both Fire and Ice attacks! Not a bad skill for a Grass type, right?"
He pulled a hand out from his cloak and shook the other boy's hand. "Oliver," he replied.

Barry, your Pokedex scans Sitri and says, "Turtwig, a tiny leaf pokemon. This reptile is born without a shell, so it spends its first days underground to collect soil on its back. After gaining a steady supply of water, the soil hardens into its new shell. This pokemon doesn't require much food as it uses chloroplasts in its cells to collect sunlight and produce sugars in its system. The natives once believed that these pokemon were children of the earth."

Wow what a grip! Barry thought as he shook the boy's hand. He had grown up on the farm and had developed a grip himself, but it was nowhere near the hand strength this boy had. "That's quite the grip you have there." Barry quietly mentioned as he finished the handshake. He flexed his fingers a bit and continued. "I reckon you either put in a lot of work in a gym or a job. You seem like you know yer stuff in a battle too. I ain't the best when it comes to match ups and such, but I can hold my own when it comes to plannin out a fight."
Barry glanced around the crowd a bit before going on. " You know, there's not too many people around. You should bring out yer partner. Don't let what these city folk think hold you back if you wanna walk with yer Pokemon. If you wanna, you should be able to. Heck, the way you talk him up, I wanna see this nifty coat he has!" Barry thought a minute to himself. He didn't know every good matchup, but he does know that fire and ice were good against grass typing. If this deerling has that kind of ability, that doesn't leave many effective moves left.
Barry finished, "Oliver huh? Mind if I call ya Olly? Just seems fitting."

Oliver tilted his head to the side a bit. "Don't do so much skateboarding, so that would seem a bit odd," he muttered. "But I'm guessing that you're already giving me your nickname right? So should be fine."
Then he pulled out a pokeball and tossed it slightly off to his side. "Come on out, Blitzen!" The Deerling landed on his feet, and stared for a long moment at the boy and his shivering reptile before coming to a decision and stating, "Ling!" The Normal/Grass type had a deep chocolate pelt and a bit of bulk that said to the world that he was ready for the cold.
"What are you proclaiming, you little snot?" he asked before affectionately rubbing his knuckles just behind the mon's ears and flower.
Then he turned back to Barry. "While Blitzen's awesome, I think you were promising your 'Twig that you guys'd be heading inside soon. You might get more time to look Blitzen over then."

Hey Tori, nice to meet ya. We are heading over the the pokemon center to heal up. If you wanna tag along. We will be doing some shopping before heading out of town, so if you wanna stick with us when we leave town you can hang out or with out on the road outta town." John stated then began trekking back to the pokemon center.
Once he arrived at the center he gave nurse joy Arach to take care of and relaxed on a bench while waiting.

"Bartholomew Henry Tone, if you don't get inside right now, I am grounding you for a week!" Barry shivered at the thought that crossed his mind. He wasn't a fan of his full name, mainly the circumstances it was used under. "Yeah, it's just Barry for short. Easier that way. Blitzen here's pretty amazing now that I see him up close!" He finished, trying to change that particular subject abruptly. He eyed the deerling up and down and took note of that lush brown coat that Oliver had explained about earlier. Barry also saw tiny bits of leaf and flower petal inside the slightly matted fur. Barry was used to grooming and up-keeping all the farm pokemon, so these little things just naturally stood out to him. Of course, Sitri was easy upkeep. The more dirt she'd gotten into, the better it was for her shell.
On the note about going inside, Barry abruptly remembered that he did, in fact, promise to take Sitri to warm up. "You're absolutely right, We should be gettin inside. I feel like I've basically spent my whole time in this city in the center already, but I think it'd be neat to go talk to that boy that won that match. Any battle advise I can get, I'll take!" Barry exclaimed. He was ready to turn and go, but then remembered that brand new toy the professor gave him. He pulled it out and asked toward Oliver, "Do you mind? I'm now a bit curious at what this thing says about all different types of Pokemon."
(Barry will use the pokedex on Deerling as long as Oliver gives the Okay)

"Pokemon Center. Heal up. Right." Tori swallowed, her mouth suddenly dry. She still didn't really believe that part of things, she'd pressed Sequoia to repeat himself like five times. He apparently hadn't been making it up - Trainers got free health care. She hadn't seen a doctor in years. If she was being honest she was kind of afraid to. Tori was well used to taking care of herself, but the fact was she didn't know jack about taking care of Pokemon. She'd have to go to a Center sometime. Might as well rip that bandaid off. And it'd be easier when it wasn't her - or her new combat pet - under the microscope, maybe. "Cool, I'm game. So, uh... Johnny." She kept step with the boys, assuming they knew where they were going, hands shoved deep in pockets way too big for them. The little skink was definitely good for keeping her coat warm. "Whatcha gonna spend the prize money on?" Nice and casual.

Keno was ready to go and it seemed like their little raiding party was getting bigger, but would they get in the way? Content to get his pokefriends a bit of medical attencion at the poke center he walked along with John. It seemed there were more following, "wait just a moment!"
Keno saw a flash of concern on Tori's face, she was acting slightly off... Keno suspected she doubted her skill and qualifications as a trainer. Perhaps she would break or buckle, or didn't deserve to be here at all. the thought that her eyes became dollar signs when she looked at John never crossed her mind.
"My name is Keno, John and I are official pokemon trainers under Professor Sequoia," speaking wih pride, "we passed the trials while others failed or quit. If anyone is intent of traveling with us, I'm gunna want to see some licences."
It the past, he'd been scolded for coming off a bit harsh or intense, a crack showed in his vanir, "...please."

Oliver looked at Blitzen who replied by closing his eyes and casually saying, "Dee." With everything said that needed to be said, the Deerling waited to have his picture taken.
"I think you got your answer," Oliver told the other boy. "But we should be able to walk and listen to it admit that Blitzen is awesome."

Instinct kicked in and Tori immediately went poker-faced when the other kid looked to be the suspicious type. Wrestling her flight reflex under control, she put on a hurt expression. "Didn't I already make it plain I came from Sequoia's too? Thought flashing my special phone woulda been enough, but guess not for you, Big Bro. Well fine, here y'go! Papers're all in order for the extra paranoid." She'd have to keep an eye on this one, though she got the feeling he was onto her for completely the wrong reasons, or he would've pressed harder. Still, she gave a sincere enough grin to soften her sarcastic words. Tori then produced her License with an exaggerated flourish she'd learned flipping cards and curtsied. Her voice slipped into a mock Kalosian accent. "Tori Vargas, pleased to be at your service, Keen-O." The card was quickly re-pocketed as she straightened and made a show of dusting herself off, earning an annoyed and muffled croak of complaint from her Pokemon. "Oh, and that's Getty. Doesn't seem t'mind the cold as much as that bitty bug does, but I think he likes it hotter anyways."
Resuming her walk at a brisker pace in the direction they'd been going, Tori shot back teasingly over her shoulder, "And I dunno, the trial seemed pretty basic t'me. Maybe I just wasn't official enough at it."

Scanning the ID and responding to Tori's incredulous tone, "well, you never can be too sure, less than reputable folks trying to ride coattails. Don't need any dead weight." The documents already dissapearing, well everything seems to be in order."
Keno seemed to be welcoming the fire lizard to the team. Keno still had yet to see Tori in action to prove the cut off her jib, but she had an ID and had a shot a proving herself. Keno softened... A bit, "Speaking of the trial, anyone else pass it with you?"

Jeez, this guy was full of himself. As if Tori needed his permission to do what she wanted! "Hah! Those scrubs? Gave up way too easy. 'I'm cold, I'm hungry, I'm scared of the dark!'" she sang in mocking tone. "'Sides, you're one to call me dead weight. Johnny here's the only one I've seen pull his own so far, yeah?" She nudged John with an elbow after he handed off his spider, winking at him. These guys were at least a good distraction from how nervous she was around the nurses.

Barry, your pokedex scans the Deerling and says, "Deerling, a season pokemon. Wild Deerling are most commonly found in Spring, when their mothers start the "Fawning Season". This pokemon rarely produces a call and they have developed fur that changes colors with the seasons, making them hard to detect. They generally avoid anything seen as a threat, usually running away on sight. However, they will sometimes simply just lay low to the ground, blending with the surrounding foliage and staying still to avoid being seen by predators. With other members of their species, they have a form of "sign language", using their tails as signals. A wagging tail is often used to make others follow. A raised tail, one where you can see the white fur underneath, is a warning of danger. Deerling are strictly herbivores and are able to eat a wide variety of plant materials from berries to tree bark. Though they prefer the company of their parents or other members of their species, Deerling are quick to join herds of other bovids, such as Miltank and Tauros for protection."
For those entering the pokemon center, the glass doors slide open, letting you into the lobby. In front of you, there is a red counter with a large pokeball placed over it with the Sylph Co. logo placed on the button. Behind it is a large plasma screen monitor that shows a 3D image of the same logo. Below it is a machine that looks like a large printer or some kind of big box-shaped device with white vinyl on its exterior. There are six depressions on a metal tray on top that looks like you could fit pokeballs on it. Behind the desk is a young woman with red hair that is tied into a bun. She's wearing a doctor's coat with a stethoscope in one of the pockets, a pair of blue pants, and white sneakers. A name tag that says, "Dr. Joy" was pinned over her left chest. She seemed to be checking over the device while holding a clipboard and writing something down on it.
To your left there were many chairs, beanbags, glass coffee tables and two doors with male and female symbols on them. A sign saying, "restrooms" was placed over them. To your right, there were more chairs and couches placed in front of a TV. The screen was showing a movie with two boys on a railroad. Beyond that, there was a line of desks with PCs, a door with a sign saying, "infirmary" over it, and a hallway with a symbol over the entrance that looked like a person in a bed. Over the PCs, there was a blue sign with a dot that had varous curved lines drawn above it, with the words "FREE WiFi" printed on it in bold letters.
Among these things, you see a few bipedal pokemon with floppy ears that have "feelers" attached to them and fluffy fur with pink and cream patterns. They all seem to be wearing small nurse's hats as they are going around, dusting and cleaning the place. When one of them sees you with its oval blue eyes, it jumps in surprise before running to a cooler that was next to the TV. It pulls out some bottles of water and and runs up to you, excitedly offering you some.

Oliver takes a bottle with a smile, before nodding over to the side at one of the beanbag chairs. "How about we sit over there?" he asks. "Should be far enough from the door that we won't get a breeze blowing in on us whenever someone walks in or out." Then he shed his cloak, putting it in a backpack he had underneath, and sat down in one of the chairs with a whump. He cracked open the bottle and offered it to Blitzen, before trying to rub the Deerling's flanks.
