"You new in town, bub?" spoke the stranger.
"Actually, I am. Never heard of this Burton Ki-" He was cut off by the sirens and the ensuing commotion.
Keno uses the flow of the crowd to his advantage, working his way to stand closer to John on the opposite side of the barrier line. Confidence was oozing off the kid as he called forth his first pokemon, and they were about to find out if it was deserved. 'Still a lot to learn,' he thought, seeing the new pokemon that appeared.
Doing the next logical thing, Keno withdrew his pokedex, focused it of Ralph's pokemon, and snapped a photo. Afterwards, he let the dex do it's thing and enlighten him on what it was he was looking at.

Please upgrade to the National Version to receive information."

Keno checked to try and find a way to toggle modes, but it appeared not to be possible. 'Well, that didn't help.'

As the set up began, Oliver impatiently bounced from one foot to the next trying to see through the block of people already forming. "Come on, come on! Let me see!" he muttered under his breath. But of course, no one was in any mood to oblige him. It was the first battle of the season after all.
Grimacing, Oliver looked around and saw a tree outside the boundaries. That'd do. He was currently east of the currently-being-prepared battlefield, and hopped up to a branch about half way up the tree. He grinned at his plan. That should give him a good viewing platform!

Barry exited the PokeCenter looking at his new phone and trying to navigate the new apps on it. He was so engrosed with it, that he bumped into a young lady crossing his path.
"Pardon me miss. I'm mighty sorry bout that. Lost in thought I guess." He says as he offers a big smile and puts one hand behind his head and scratches the hair back there. Sitri shakes her head back and forth and mutters "twig" almost mockingly.
"Hey now look, I didn't mean to. This confound thing is brand new and takes some gettin used to!" Barry exclaims to Sitri. "Sorry again miss." he says quickly as the lady keeps walking. With his head out of the phone, Barry finally takes a minute to look around his surroundings. This is the first real view he's gotten of the city since brought here by the Professor. It was all a rush from the time Professor showed up at the farm, picked up Barry and Sitri, and brought them all back to the city. The introductions were brief and the instructions were laid out in a hurry. Barry was supposed to record his life with his Pokemon so the professor could study it, or something like that. He wasn't to sure but figured he'd ask for specifics later. The pair was rushed to the Pokemon center to make sure Sitri was okay to travel and Barry had everything in order.
The commotion to the North peaked Barry's interest. It looked like the streets were being blocked off and something big was going down. He couldn't tell what from where he was at so he pushed through the crowd a bit to get to the barrier. Sitri on the other hand, found getting through the crowd much harder. She nipped at Barry's jeans and he picked up the little Turtiwg effortlessly. He perched her on his head so she had a better view.
"Now what do you reckon is goin on over here Sitri?" He said quietly to his partner.

Tori looked around from where she'd been digging through an alleyway trashcan when some sort of commotion started up nearby. Looked like someone was really popular here! The rough-looking girl grinned to herself as she haphazardly brushed some dirt from her hands and went to investigate. Normally Tori would've been more careful in a town this small, but the local golden boy was attracting a lot of attention in one spot. This was an opportunity too sweet to pass up. "Be ready, Getty," she murmured, and a sleepy puff of smoke curled out from one of her coat pockets in reply. The little lizard was being unusually lazy thanks to the cold weather, making his own little hotbox of sorts.
With the crowd's attention focused on the match about to start, once the action began Tori moved quietly and unobtrusively among the milling throng of onlookers, searching for a good target. Here the cold weather was a boon, heavy coats and multiple layers making it less likely anyone would notice her searching fingers. Hopefully she'd find more than pocket change and half-eaten candy bars, but something was always better than nothing. Tourist town like this? Nobody here would miss it.
There - the challenger's proud papa. Nobody was more focused on the match than him, and he was probably loaded! Tori waited until there was a particularly dramatic moment during the battle, then made her move.

The bright flash from the ball was like that of looking directly into the flash of a camera. The opposing pokemon flinched and seemed to be rubbing its eyes after that, along with the front row members of the audience and Ralph. Mayor Burton, who covered his eyes at the right time, approached the space between the two pokemon and their trainers.
"Alright, this will be a simple one-on-one match between my son's Bagon and this contender's Arachnut! The fight is to last until the opponent faints or surrenders. As this is being watched by officials, such as myself and the police, this battle will abide by the rules of the Orudo League. This fight is in between your pokemon. The trainers are not to interfere in any way. If any of you step in to block attacks, send your pokemon after the opposing trainer, or attack them yourself, you will be disqualified. You are to also never attack any civilians as this may result into your immediate arrest and revocation of your licenses. Also, no robots and, please, be careful of any surrounding property! Having understood these rules, are the trainers ready to battle?"
The jock nodded and said, "Sure, I'm ready to go. Right, Russel?" as his pokemon sneezed out a puff of blue smoke in the cold.
Oliver, the tree seems like a good spot to watch the battle after doing an acrobatics or athletics check to climb up safely.
Tori, your skilled fingers slip into several pockets, getting you a total of $20, a crunchy candy bar that was melted a little, and a pocket watch. What was even better is that the police didn't seem to notice you do this, as they were busy making sure nothing crossed the line.

For Oliver getting the height wasn't a problem. It rarely ever was. The real tricky bit was keeping balance up there. Thankfully for the teen this was something he had much practice with. The branch wasn't quite the same as his normal stuff, and he was planning on staying up here for a minute or two so he pulled himself up and sat on the branch. That done he began to look at the mon on the field. A blue mon and a apricorn. Those were new. He pulled out his own dex and let the app run, disappointed that he couldn't figure out what one of the mon was capable of. That stunk. But blue usually meant Water type right? So the grass type moves should work out well here, shouldn't they? But didn't it also breathe fire? He couldn't think of a water type that did that... But he did know grass and bug both didn't like fire, so that little apricorn dude was in trouble if he couldn't avoid the line of fire.

Hearing John giving orders to his pokemon, the Mayor announced, "Very well, let the match begin!" As John's pokemon was getting ready to make a move, Ralph shouted, "Alright, Russel, burn that bug! Use Ember!" The pokemon breathed deep before exhaling blue embers and smoke that fired at Arach.

Keno watch the battle as it progressed, 'fire huh, Gypsy could extinguish that.'
It was a powerful blow, but Arach was still up for a battle, could it stand another hit like that though. The crowd around him josteled as the attacks were exchanged, even if he would have wanted to slip away, he doubted he could. As the bodies pressed it the cold became less of an issue. Keno hoped John was able to put up a good fight, if not win all together.

As the next round begins, Russel doesn't seem too well as he keeps shivering. All of his stats drop by 1 CS as he tries to struggle against the webs.Ralph shouted, "Russel, quick, burn the webs off and make your escape!" before the Bagon released some more embers from his mouth. The webs began to burn off in blue sparks.

Oliver winced as he watched the first couple of damaging hits be exchanged. "And that's the fight," he muttered to himself. Between the webbing and the cold, the little spider had stolen the momentum, and possibly the fight. But that call to get into Melee without an escape route might have been the finisher. The blow looked heavy but from what he could see had also hit the blue mon on the thick head, which seemed to be plated.
With how much this little mon didn't seem to be able to take the cold, it might have been better to hide back for a while. His dex mentioned that the apricorn mon learned Pin Missile before it learned bounce.
Though it might get lucky and land one more hard hit before going down?

Russel was hit hard enough to where Arach forced the Bagon hit his face against the ground. He got back up and looked at the spider angrily as blood dripped from his nostrils and his snout was horribly bruised, signifying he gained an injury. The next round begins and his stats lower another -1 CS. However, he seemed really angry. Arach even looks like he was getting cold from the weather, which seemed to be lowering his stats too.
Ralph shouted, "Don't let that bug make you look like a fool! Finish him with another Ember!" The Bagon stopped breathing smoke. "Russel, come on! Burn him!" The pokemon ignored him and let out a little roar before charging at the spider. "Russel, what are you doing?!"
Russel used Rage

Russel was hit with the three needles and fell back on the chilled asphalt. Mayor Burton raised his hand and announced, "Russel is unable to battle! The winners are Arach and John!" The crowd cheers as Ralph, looks down at his pokemon in disappointment. Meanwhile, Arach curled into his apricorn and shivered in the cold.
Arach gains 16 exp.

"Arach Return, lets get you into the warmth!" John stated, obviously worried about his friend. John then reached out to shake Ralph's hand. "Good match, thought you had me when you nailed Arach that last time."
