Justin gave Asa a sharp salute after he'd received his orders, which was probably about as confrontational as he'd get. Plus, it was a good plan. Ideally, Bo would still be able to get his surprise attack in as well. Running up to the edge of the pit, he threw the bird's Pokeball in, shouting, "Let's do it...Pike! Take out the nearest Machop!" For a name he'd come up with on the spot, he thought it was pretty good. The spelling being so close to Nike was also amusing.
Justin summons his Spearow, and tags the Machop he threw it at. Pike used Peck! | AC: | _ijK9Jjm1d20+Accuracy Bonus ≥ 2 + Target Evasion | Type: | Flying | Frequency: | At-Will | Damage: | 2d6+18 | Crit Adds: | 2d6+8 | Damage Category: | Physical | Range: | Melee, 1 Target | Effects: | -- |

It's a coordinated explosion as the group bursts from their hiding spot among the brush. Asa and Brandy are first, and Brandy spews flame at the Abra, but it uses Teleport as an Interrupt and appears to leave the area entirely. Wally breaks through next, releasing his Talonflame. "Talonflame, focus on that one!" he yells, pointing at the man standing up at the top of the hole. Talonflame rushes toward the man, the air all around it searing away from the heat it generates, and it latches onto him on either shoulder with its talons before lifting him up and continuing to fly away with him over the treetops. The man's screams of fright begin to fade out as he is taken further and further away, but he clutches tightly to whatever precious fossil they were looking for here, never letting it fall from his grasp. "Talonflame! Talonflame, no! What are you doing?!" Wally dashes out in pursuit of his Pokémon, disappearing into the thick trees ahead. Pike the Spearow lands in the pit and hits one of the Machop so hard it is nearly KO'd right then and there. Holding her Growlithe, Jenny leaps right down into the pit, landing pretty well for the type of heels she's wearing. She doesn't quite follow Asa's plan to the letter. "Nobody move!" she yells instead of just attacking right away, putting Growlithe down and pulling out her baton. "You're under arrest for kidnapping and performing major excavations without a permit!"Around the time the Abra disappeared, the children started to blink their eyes and look around, like it was the first time for them to see their surroundings. Currently, they have grouped together to huddle at one far end of the pit, as far out of harm's way as they can get. "What the heck?" says one of the men in the pit, thrown by how quickly everything went crazy. "It's some kinda do-gooder ambush! Get 'em!"(Combat begins. Initiatives have been put into the Current Initiatives post based on who is on the battlefield at the moment. Starting right now, if you use any kind of Orders or Training on your Pokémon and your init comes after your Pokémon's, then it doesn't take effect until your Pokémon's next turn. If your Pokémon acts before you and you try to apply, for example, Focused Training, how could you have done that when you act after they do? You can, however, choose for that Pokémon to Delay its action until whatever tick of init you like, changing its value for the rest of the battle. Just wanted to give you a heads-up.)

In concert with the others, Bo released his Croagunk, the frog pokemon rushing into the fray, puffing out its throat and letting out a deafening croak at the still remaining Machop. Bo uses Brutal Training on Botshba for +1 Crit/effect range Botshba uses Astonish!

Asa had already half-expected the psychic Pokemon to disappear. She sighed internally as the Talonflame went... somewhere. The best laid plans... She thought with a shake of her head. "Right, Brandy burn up that thug that likes to pick on kids!"The Fennekin seemed agitated that her prey had escaped and was grateful for a new target to vent the frustration on. She summoned up the embers and sent them searing toward the Team "F" grunt A. Asa used Brutal Training! |

Asa uses Brutal Training and Brandy is able to benefit from its effects right away, as Brandy acts immediately afterward, blasting Grunt A with fire. Grunt A cries out in pain. OOC: Writing with the assumption that Bo's target will be retconned
"Hold on a second, Pike," Justin said before the Spearow could finish off his opponent. He wanted to run to the aid of Officer Jenny, but they had to end the combat first. "I have a hunch I'd like to test. If it doesn't work, go ahead and use Peck." If the children were being controlled by the Abra, it was possible the Machops were too, meaning they weren't necessarily captured Pokemon. Justin drew a Pokeball, and placed it right between the first Machop's eyes.

Machop B looks at the Poké Ball like it doesn't understand what's going on. Team "F" Grunt B just laughs. "What's he doing? Get ready to attack him, Machop." "He's almost out of the fight. Hurry and finish with him so we can help the others!"At her directions, Brandy released another blast of flames at the Grunt A. As she did, Asa was already looking to the side to assess how the rest of the party was fairing. It seemed they had knocked one of the machops out of the battle quickly so it could not inflict any damage but were struggling with the other grunt and machop. She needed to finish this target off now before momentum swung in the enemy's favor. Asa used Brutal Training! |

The attack seemed to be going well, as they managed to knock one of the grunts and even one of the Machop out. Justin However seemed in a bit of a bind, and Bo quickly dashed over near the fallen grunt, as he pointed to the Machop. "Mud Slap, watch for Justin! Don't you miss!" He called out to his Croagunk. As he looked, a small object caught his eyes on the ground near the Grunt. "Oh...Well lucky, don't mind if I do. Thank you for the gift." he said, as he quickly reached down, nicking the safety goggles from the Grunt as Botshba dashed over and flung some of the gravel filled mud at the Machop. "Pike, get away from him, and come help me with this Machop!" Justin called, before moving to put some distance between himself and the Machop, cradling an injured arm. Pike obeyed his orders, flying away from the human that attacked him, to focus on the Pokemon.

"Focus fire on the man before he can hurt anyone else!" Asa's plan was to eliminate the men first, since they could attempt to flee. The Pokemon were only obeying their trainers, so the sooner the bad influence was removed, the better. Brandy continued to pour on the fire, literally. The second and final Grunt goes down, spinning into unconsciousness. Combat is over! You each gain 4 Levels to distribute as you see fit among the Pokémon in your party right now.
The children run up and hug you, the daylights scared out of them. That Abra reappears in the sky. Its eyes open and they glow with a powerful red light. The Grunts' Poké Balls suddenly activate, recalling both of the fainted Machop. The Abra disappears and reappears directly in between the two Grunts. It puts a hand on either of them and then all three disappear for good.
An avian cry from above heralds the return of Wally, who flies in atop Talonflame once more. "We had him!" Wally yells as he lands and dismounts Talonflame. "We were turning around to head back when this Abra suddenly appeared, grabbed the guy, and disappeared with him! Now we don't know where he is. Hey, wait, where are the other two? Holy Miltank, what happened to Jenny and her Pokémon? Should I fly them back to town?"

Asa sighed in frustration. "That means they got away with whatever fossil they were after. The battle was basically pointless." She looked around the hole that had been dug before climbing up with a bit of a struggle to where the grunt had tossed the other fossil they had found.
She scooped them both up to examine later. "We better get the kids back before dark. Wally, yeah... good idea. Officer Jenny is gonna need to be fixed up so she can continue the investigation later."

Well, it seemed Asa was certainly a pessimistic one. "I wouldn't say the battle was pointless," Justin said. "We have no way of knowing what they'd have done with the kids had we not scared them off. Plus, we gave them a beating that they more than deserved."
After nodding in agreement with Asa's recommendation to Wally, Justin crouched down among the children, the same way he had to talk to Pike when he caught the Spearow, and asked, "Are you guys alright?" Nike waddled up next to him, and looked up at the children in her uniquely adorable way. "That must have been pretty scary," Justin continued, "but you don't have to worry anymore. The bad guys are gone now, and we won't let anything happen to you. Do you know what they were doing here?"
