Slight steam is created when watering the panel. looks like they can get pretty hot. The knocks sound as though it is hollow behind the panel, like it may be a covering for something. Immediately confirming this, a single panel high above flips open, and a large gun turret shoots out from the opening. It quickly pivots on mechanical hinges and aims right at Asa.
"You are on private property," a computerized voice says. "Vacate now or extreme force will be used against you."

Asa held up her hands and her crocodile gave a rumbling growl at the threat. ”So sorry. How far, exactly, is private. There are no signs or fences... only sand.”
She took a few steps back to better look at the turret from a different angle, glancing toward her companions to see how they’d react to the weapon.

When Asa steps just a few feet back, the turret immediately retracts back into the building and the panel flips down closed again. It seems like it may all be automated.

Justin, always quick on his feet, was fast to raise his hands in shocked surrender as a gun turret sprang from the building they had been investigating. At the same moment, another idea - summoning Brutus as a presumably bullet immune shield and breaking down the wall - flashed through his mind, but it was quickly discarded. Thankfully the turret retracted when Asa stepped back. "Well, I think we know who owns this place now," Justin said in an overly matter-of-fact tone, "and what they're doing. They're people with gun turrets, and they're keeping us away from their building." He's predictably rattled, being a guy from a small town, only barely an adult, but he was trying to hide it with humour. "Phew. Glad that mystery's solved. Let's move on to our next stop!"

Hastily the young man stepped away as well. As interesting as the odd warehouse was, it was nothing worth being shot over. "As much as I hate to leave a mystery unsolved, Justin is very right. I would rather not have this journey end so abruptly cause curiosity got me a bullet."He said, shuddering a bit at the thought.
"Besides, maybe we can come back another day. I'd rather not just stand here and try figure out a way in, but dehydrate over the hours it will likely take for us to think a way that is not full of lead. Maybe we can even see if anyone knows what the building is, when we get to the other side of the desert."

Asa nodded and put her hands back down as the gun disappeared back into the building. "I agree. I don't think we're in any sort of position to impose our will on some kind of automated defense. Not yet anyway."
She turned her back on the building to head in the direction of the route that they had diverted from.

The remainder of Route 02 is safe and uneventful. The party finds themselves at the gate to Hickory Town, where the guard there lets them in.
"Braved the desert, did ya?" he asks. "Well, you made it. C'mon in. Yer lookin' parched. Free water at the Poké Center."

"Yes, we made it through." Justin answered the guard posted on this side of the desert. "The trek wasn't really much of a problem actually. The only thing we had trouble with was a giant square building that didn't seem to have any doors. You wouldn't know what that was, would you?" Justin fully intended to get to the bottom of the strange metal cube...now that he was well out of the line of fire. That turret couldn't be legal could it?

"Thank you." Asa gave a polite short bow to the guard and paused as Justin brought up the strange building. She crossed her arms and waited with all the patience she could muster. While the building was something that she wished to explore, the weight of her pack was a constant reminder that she was only moments from discovering even greater things!

"That thing went up out there about a month ago," says the guard. "Was built practically overnight. No one knows how they forced the build to completion so fast, or who the owners are, but I'm told that all the paperwork was filed properly and it's legitimate. Thing's an eyesore, though, and it makes no sense to put a storage facility - if that's what it is - out there in the middle of nowhere in such harsh elements. But that's just my opinion, I guess. You kids take care, now, and make sure you keep outta trouble. Welcome to Hickory."

"Definitely a mystery to look into... later." Asa waved Justin along. "I really want to get to fossil lab before it closes today." She looked around for signs that might direct her to that goal.
