"Why haven't we got a status report yet?"
A large man stomped his foot into the ground. He could be compared to a Slaking in stature and size, though the personality was definitely more brutal. The Staryu he spoke to seemed perhaps to fear him a bit? It was always hard to tell with them.
"[Strong... Wild Pokemon in the area... Really strong...]"
"I understand... You're making excuses! No excuses!"
As he spoke to the Staryu before him, another flew in from the side.
"[Sir... More trouble... New Trainers in nearby town... Professor chosen...]"
This comment seemed to faze the man, who stood speechless for a moment with a grimace on his face.
"........."
"[Lord Rekt... More losses for continuing... New Trainers interfering likely...]"
At that, the man named Rekt finally spoke again.
"We'll work with what we got. I'll go myself to be sure. I wonder though... These Trainers. What are they like?"
Location: Professor Flikt's Laboratory
Inside the Laboratory, the four of you find yourselves standing before the Professor, a man in a lab coat, tall and suave. To the far left of the modest lab, there were several sofas arranged around a wide-screen television currently showing the ENN broadcast; and to the right, a small dining area for the Professor and his two other employees. In the back, beside the Healing Machine, the Professor's personal computer was located on a desk, right next to a Princess Fortissimo statuette. Other less notable features were the kitchen and the bookshelves.
In the back of the lab was the main feature, a full-scale battle simulation that could recreate special scenarios for researching battle potential in Pokemon. The main point of his research, he took the concept very seriously. So seriously in fact, that he turned to face all of you, asking a question.
"Pokemon battling. A good friend of mine in Kalos always asks Trainers who challenge him a simple question. I quote therefore, 'Do you think Pokémon battling can ever be worthy of being called an art?' It is a simple question, but a deep one. Consider it deeply, and tell me your answer."
On a table beside the Professor, four small boxes, folded closed and emblazoned with the Eisen Pokemon League symbol representing their new founding, beckoned, to be handed out upon the answer to the question being asked.

Before any of the others can even process the question, let alone answer; a hand slams down on the table, hard enough to shake the boxes. This hand leads up to a young man with long purple hair and handsome features. Around his neck, partially obscured by a necklace, are numerous visible scars. Flashes of matching scars on his wrists can also be seen as his flowing shirt moves in the air. A calmed Zubat perches on his shoulder.
"Of course it is, Professor."
Sylvester Green speaks, voice filled with confidence.
"Pokemon competing, if in the wild, against a trainer, or even on a stage! The latter being my personal goal, but regardless. Trainers, each with pokemon they are in perfect sync with each other..."
He looks to the Zubat on his shoulder.
"...facing down the other in combat. When this happens, it's almost like a dance. Wouldn't you agree, Professor?"

Alara quietly stares down at her feet, having done so since she first entered the room. Every so often she shyly takes a quick glance around before losing her nerve and staring down at her feet once more. She thought she had been ready to meet the professor, but why were there other people in here with her? Why was getting a pokedex a group activity? Couldn't she have talked to him alone and then leave? That would have made this so much easier, so why wasn't it done like that? She continued to sit there, furtively fretting and mentally complaining until the professor spoke up. Then, her eyes slowly slid up to watch his face as he spoke, a look of confusion flashing onto it. Battling, an art? What sort of question was that?
She was confused enough that someone would think this was a question worth asking, but her confusion turned to disbelief as one of the men in the room spoke up, seeming to agree and revel in the concept of battle as an art? In her disbelief, she stared up at him, taking him in. He was tall, with long flowing hair and a far too pretty to be humble face. If she hadn't noticed the scars on his body, she would think that he didn't know what real combat was about at all. Seeing the scars only made her disrespect him more, mentally scoffing at the man. He had been in contact with danger that often, yet he still thought that way? How foolish. Slowly her left hand reached down and touched the hilt of her knife and she spoke up rather clearly, her previous shyness gone from her features and replaced with an almost proud confidence. "He's wrong. Combat is a means to an end, nothing more. It's no more an art than walking to get to where you want to go is an art."
She looks forward, staring directly at Sylvester for a moment before suddenly realizing what she had done, directly refuting and confronting this stranger. Her cheeks immediately flush red and her body language shifted back to shy and uncomfortable, hand sliding off of the hilt of her knife, eyes staring down at the floor and refusing to look up. Very quietly she tags on a disclaimer, far too embarrassed to do much of anything else. "At least that's what I think..."

David considers the question for a long moment, before shrugging. If he's rattled by Sylvester's loud antics and brash mannerisms, he doesn't show it, fiddling with a set of strange technological goggles before slipping them back on, covering the small tracery of scarring on either temple that had been partially exposed. "Technically speaking, all art is subjective. Therefore, pokemon battling is likely already considered an art form by at least a percentage of people. I see it more as an extension of the natural arms race of evolution. Pokemon that do not battle do not evolve in many cases, and those that do not evolve are weaker and certainly less powerful than pokemon that do battle. Those that are more powerful are often seen as more attractive mates, ensuring that they have a greater chance to pass on their genetics.
He pauses, his lips quirking slightly. "And of course, there's the spiritual and ritualistic aspect of it all. Pokemon combat provides a non-lethal way for both pokemon and humans to vent their stresses and prove their strengths, and in many cases this has led to ancient arenas to be steeped in certain energies, making them feel more conducive to hosting a battle. The Indigo Plateau and Ever Grande island being two such ancient arenas that are now the sites of the pokemon leagues of their respective Elite Four battlegrounds. Such convergences of mental and spiritual clashing also tends to produce larger quantities of shards than the average area, which has led me to the theory that the ambient energies produced by the constant clashes on such a consistent basis actually begins to crystallize within the local strata. Fascinating stuff really, it's the most common source for the more energetic families of shards, red, orange etc..." He finally winds down a little lamely, turning his attention from the group to one of the odd little capsules hanging at his waist, opposite the lone pokeball.

Bouncing in place energetically, a teenage girl with sun-kissed skin was twiddling her thumbs as she eagerly waited for the professor to finally give her the package she'd been looking forward to getting all week, no, all MONTH, but instead she was taken by surprise by the strange question he posed to all of them out of the blue. Well, okay, if that's what he wants before she can finally get going.
Elodie genuinely ponders and thinks about her answer, the longest out of all of the four teens, but she finally just shrugs as well. "I think I agree with this guy," she says as she points a finger at David and his weird techy goggles, "At least 'bout some people already thinking it's an art." She then points with her other hand at Sylvester. "I mean, Mister Purple Hair here sure does think it, and isn't that all that matters? People are never gonna agree completely anyway, 'specially 'bout art." With no more free arms, El resorts to looking over at Alara. "Like her! Oh, um, I guess you wanted to know what I thought, though, didn't ya? Uhhh..." A little embarrassed, El takes a good moment to decide on her answer before she pipes up, "I don't think it is right now, not overall! Some battles I've seen on TV have been really pretty and cool, and yeah, those were awesome, but right now not everyone can make battling look that way."

Sylvester turned to the girl who spoke after him, a little taken aback by the harsh answer. He is about to go into a zealous speech about how he's been training for years to bring his 'art' form to the public, when she seems to sorta peeter out of whatever came over her. The young man pauses a moment, deciding that doing something big and over the top might scare her into claming up. Then how would he show her? After the other two had gone, in where Sylvester bit his tongue down in surprise being the only one who gave a clear 'yes' answer (Although the less timid girl's pointing out of art being subjective did help quiet him down), he turns to the three non-professors. "I suppose I did misspeak in a way. Intention is at the heart of the matter. If a trainer, heart filled with a goal of becoming a champ, heads out to do battle with other trainers and pokemon; the whole time with stars in their eyes... Art. If another decides to head out, the thought in their mind that nothing will stop them, not even their morals... anyone left in their wake wouldn't consider it art. Both of these are correct. Intent is half the action. Malice. Kindness. A knock down drag out fight. A healthy competition." He turns back to the Professor. "But what am I going on about, when I can show you all 'exactly' what it's like to see someone with these values. Me, our Professor, and anyone else who wishes to join us, in a Pokemon Contest!" Sylvester gives a big toothy smile and lets the challenge hang in the room. Charm Roll to convince the Professor to take the challenge!

David shakes his head as he turns his attention to a gauntlet that had been hooked onto his hip via his belt. The thing is a heavy piece of leather and brass, with a small focusing array and antennae on the back of the hand. "Pass. Contests are of little interest to me."

El lights up at Sylvester's invitation. "A contest? I've never done one before! I wanna try!" she exclaims enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling in anticipation, "I've watched all of Valve's contests on TV; they look like so much fun!"

Alara remains staring at the floor, still far too embarrassed to say much of anything. She looks up slightly with a confused glance at the mention of these "contests". She had heard the name before, but she didn't really know what they were. Apparently they were something that was shown on tv? Whatever it was, she didn't know, and she most certainly didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of these people any more than she had, so she vigorously shakes her head in rejection of the idea of participating in the contest.

"Hrm. Acceptable answers! Although I myself do not do Contests, some people do prefer it. That said, each of you, take one of these."
The Professor handed out one package to each of you, containing a single Pokedex, a single Potion, and five Basic Balls.
"All of you look quite eager to get started, so I'll make this short. Take the League challenge, but as you do so, remember what you said, and take it to heart. I want to see the results of your battling styles in all fields! As far as Gyms go, Parr City has the closest one to this Village, but you could also hike your way to both Tulidaisy Town and Faire Cit-actually, scratch the Faire City suggestion. That place can be super rough. If you feel up to the challenge though, then by all means go ahead."
The Professor then handed each of you one further item, the item itself being a neatly rolled up map.
"These maps should help you find your guys' way. You may also want to-"
"Professor! Professor!"
A Pokemart Aide bursts into the room suddenly, and in quite a panic.
"Professor! It's so simply awful! Our store was robbed right now! A young girl went to try and chase down the suspects, but she lost them on the path to Star Top Hill!"
"Hrm. That is not a favorable situation. Alright. Well, new Trainers. Perhaps this is the time to showcase your skills! I'd suggest you get out there and help the girl out. She may need it if this is a Team Chain or Team Liberte attack, since they tend to group up."
The Professor quickly whirled around to face his healing machine.
"While this village lacks a Pokemon Center, you can use the machine here to an equivalent effect, albeit we do not have a ward to tend to injuries. You'll need to go to the separate clinic in town for those. If you're ready, go ahead and get going!"
"Though much of our store and goods were damaged in the robbery, what we do have left we can sell to you if you need any extra supplies. We only have Potions and Basic Balls left though... That may be a problem."
At the Pokemart Aide's offer, Professor Flikt faced you guys again and nodded, leaving control of the situation to you.
"Good, good. I'll be here if you have any other questions, but I don't think we have much time for those in particular. I'd suggest you talk to the girl first though. Chances are the robbers made their way towards the Hill itself It's a dead end though, despite the size and paths through the hillside."

David accepts the items gratefully, squirreling them away into various pockets of his tool belt. He especially looks interested at the pokedex, but slips it into a pocket when the pokemart attendant rushes in. His brows raise at the situation described, and he nods firmly, slipping the gauntlet onto his left hand. As he flexes his hand into a fist, the gauntlet crackles, small sparks coming off the emitter array. "It sounds like we'd best make haste then." He palms a pokeball, and releases a lively-looking Elekid. "Armature, let's go." The Elekid nods, cracking its... knuckles? Claws? Either way the little mon looks ready to dish out some pain as David immediately heads out the door, looking for the girl that had been mentioned.
He does pause and look back at the other trainers for a moment, one brow quirked as if to ask "are you coming or not?" before continuing.

Sylvester's expression droops a bit after the professor denies the contest. Well at least he got one interested! As he obtains both the pack and the map, he places them both away, and turns to Elodie.
"Well at least someone is up for it. We'll just need a small open area to-"
The young man is interrupted by the pokemart aide running in and explaining the situation. Sylvester mouths 'We'll do it later then.' to her, and gives a sly wink. Once the situation is fully explained, David is the first out the door, ready for battle. But as David looks back to the group, Sylvester has a bit of a double take.
Surely he didn't mean us 'all', yes? I mean I want to help right wrong-doings as much as the next person but... I'm no battler. I've taught Jad control over his actions to be naturally 'less' dangerous than he should be...
Sylvester and Jad exchange a worried look. (Or as much of a 'look' a Zubat can give off) Jad gives a small chirp.
I suppose I should still try and help, although I don't know how much that will be...
He clears his throat and gives a meek 'Coming' to David before walking after him.

Alara quietly takes the items from the Professor, admiring the pokedex as she holds it in her hand. This small object was a heavily desired item and she... had no idea how to use it. Did she press this button here? No, that didn't do anything... maybe this other one? There was a small crack and she let out a surprised squeak for a moment. Hopefully she hadn't broken it, that would be embarrassing. Suddenly another object was shoved in her face and she nearly jumped in surprise, realizing that she completely hadn't been listening to what the Professor was saying. Her cheeks immediately flushed red as she silently hoped it wasn't important.
Her continued embarrassment was interrupt by someone bursting into the room. The sudden noise and shock caused her to jump backwards a few feet, hand reaching for her knife, but she managed to stop herself before she had drawn it. The aide obviously wasn't a threat. She listened quietly as the aide and professor spoke for far too long considering the situation, a look of determination growing on her face. If there was a situation where she could help, then she was going to help. As the shorter of the two male trainers in the room turned around in the door to see if the others were coming, Alara slipped past him and began heading towards where she assumed the path was at a brisk pace.

Although disappointed that she was the only other person who wanted to do the contest, Elodie perked up as the professor finally gave them their starter kits! Unintentionally ignoring Sylvester, she all but ripped her package open to find the coveted pokedex inside that proved she could go on her league journey and hugged it tightly to her chest, her face positively beaming. It didn't last that long as the pokemart aide burst in and explained the situation.
After a moment of stunned silence, El cries out in outrage, "How could they?!" She stomps up to the aide with a blazing fire in her eyes. "No one's hurt, are they, Matt? If those dirty thieves did anything to anyone, I'll never forgive 'em!" Without even waiting for a reply, El shoves her pokedex and other gifts into her fanny pack and dashes out of the lab, zooming past Alara with a yell, "They'll be sorry when I'm done with 'em!"

Following the pathway lead you to a girl who was holding a determined stance. She was standing in a wide open part of the fields that comprised Star Top Hills, and was standing across from some Staryu and their Trainer.
"Damn you thieves! No reason to steal stuff from the village store!"
When she noticed you approaching, she turned to face you guys and beckoned you over. "Hey! I'm Lisa! If you're the help the Aide said he'd go to get, then I'm glad! Let's knock this thief a new one!" She sent out a Litwick as she spoke.
The man standing across from her pounded his two fists together in response. He was a hulking man, more comparable to a Slaking than anything, and his jacket, though a pale dark purple not unlike that of a Malamar or Machoke, was left unbuttoned, and he had no shirt underneath, apparently too big for such a thing. His black pants could probably fit your bodies inside of them in full, and he was well over 6 and half feet tall. He had a pickelhaube motorcycle helmet in a dark pale blue as well.
Through his yellow goggles, he smirked. "Hah! Look! It's more small things! This should be fun. We need those parts. You'll need to beat me to take them. I will warn you. My name is Rekt, and I'm tough."
As he said this last part, several Staryu organize themselves about 6m away from your party. You have some time to possibly banter if you wish. Boss : Rekt

Sylvester tried his best to keep up with the group, ending up behind the group. Sylvester is uncharacteristically quiet as they stare down the mountain of a man before them. As a battle seems to already be brewing up with another new face, Sylvester looks to Jad, still on his shoulder. He lifts his hand to the Zubat, who hops onto it. "Jad, lets use that special move we trained for. Kick up a wind behind us, maybe that will be the edge we need." The Zubat nods, and flits into the air, summoning large bursts of wind behind the whole group. Sylvester then gives a few words of encourgement to Jad to help him along. Jad uses Tailwind! Wind Status - Blessing
All allied pokemon and trainers gain +5 to initiative until the end of the encounter.
Sylvester uses Commander's Voice to apply both Agile and Inspired Training to Jad (+1 to Movement Capability, +2 to Saves, +1 to Evasion, +4 Initiative)
Sylvester new Initiative: 19 Jad's new Initiative: 25

Alara runs up to the girl and takes up a position next to her, releasing Rush beside her. She quietly listens as the brute talks, a fierce expression set on her face. She had seen tougher than this joker, whoever he was. She waited impatiently for the other trainers to take up their positions and get ready, completely ignoring the man as he spoke. There was no point in listening to what he said. Instead, she looked down to Rush and whispered to him softly. "Alright, time to crush these guys. You're weak to them, so try not to get hit, alright?" If the small pig pokemon heard her, he didn't indicate, but she knew that he had. Then, she waited for the action to start, and when it did she pointed to a Staryu directly across from Rush. "Hit it and get behind me." Then, she pulled out her stone knife and took up a defensive stance, waiting to see if any enemies would target them. Rush in the meantime gave a large yawn as he summoned a giant pillar of ice above his head and gave a tired snort as he sent it flying. Then, he shuffled behind Alara, taking his time to get there, not particularly worried. Blessed! Alara's initiative is now 20, Rush's is now 17.
Alara binds Polar Vortex to Rush, activating his Snow Cloak. Rush's evasion is now 5. Alara Flutters with her shift action, gaining 3 evasion and cannot be flanked. Her evasion is now 6.
Rush uses Icicle Crash on the nearest Staryu. Range of 6, flinches on a 15+. Accuracy Roll of 5 against AC4, 40 physical Ice damage if it hits . He then shuffles behind Alara, still acting like he's waking up from a nap.

Running to the other side of the girl, Elodie readies a pokeball as she scowls at the towering hulk. "I don't care how big or tough y'are, that don't give ya the right to just steal from people! Whateva ya took, we're here to take it back! All of us together are more than enough to stop ya! Ruri, let's kick it up!"With that, El hurls her pokeball straight in front of the Staryu that Rush had just blasted with ice, releasing precious Ruri at an opportune moment to catch the Staryu off-guard with a pummel of kicks before the Nidoran hops back cautiously. Elodie sends out Ruri with a Shift Action, specifically right near whichever Staryu Rush had just attacked (throwing range is 8 meters, so should be doable), then uses her Standard Action via Commander's Voice to use both Inspired Training on Ruri (+2 to saves, +1 evasion until the beginning of Elodie's next turn), and Moment of Action on Alara and David (+1 temporary Action Point which disappears after one full round), then activating Cheerleader as a Free Action for both orders, spending 0 AP to give Ruri the Excited condition (when hit by a damaging attack, pokemon and trainers may give up the Excited condition to gain 5 Damage Reduction against that attack), and 1 AP to also give both Alara and David the Excited condition.
As her Standard Action, Ruri uses Double Kick (Fighting, Physical) on the same Staryu as Rush, hitting with two accuracy rolls of 20 and 7 versus AC 3, with the first roll being a crit. The total damage is 33. Ruri will then Disengage away from the Staryu, Shifting 1 meter without provoking an Attack of Opportunity.

David assess the makeup of their group, then the opposition facing them, even as the Tailwind kicks into effect, hastening his movements. "I think that we should focus on taking out these Staryu. Psychic types are... less than optimal opponents for some of you. The oaf is of little concern in comparison. Armature, thirty degrees left. As he gives the order, the Elekid advances, windmilling his arms, before throwing out am massive blast of electricity at one of the Staryu on the edge of the enemy formation. As his mon hits his target, David pulls one of the strange little capsules from his belt, and targets one of the uninjured Staryu. The capsule flies true, smacking into the mon's core and spraying a noxious yellow liquid over the target. David's lips quirk up at the edges in a small smile. David and Armature's Initiative increases to 15 and 21 respectively.
Armature's Thundershock Range 4 AC 2: Crit Damage: 40 special Electric
David's Pester Ball AC 6: 13 Target is now confused

Rekt's Theme: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhgO1ZBCTfI
Seeing the fervor with which your Pokemon attacked his Staryu, Rekt grew incredibly angry.
"Grrr! So you want to play that way? We can play that way. Yes! Here is my power!" Rekt stomped on the ground, fuming at the Staryu he was commanding. "Layabouts! We crush them now! Let's show them we can mean business!"
With a smirk, Rekt roared what would probably qualify as his catchphrase.
"Get Rekt!"
Rekt seemed to lose his temper quite terrifically, and his Staryu scrambled to appease him, seemingly over performing, despite their position with two of them going down in seconds. Unable to be struck as they flew forward to position themselves, thanks to the haste they moved at with Rekt getting angry, they fired Water Gun attacks at those targets they deemed big threats to them and to Rekt. Somehow, Rekt's lack of finesse affected them too, making their attacks disperse wildly, the jets of water appearing far narrower or wider than would be expected.

In response to this, Lisa grimaced. "What the crap is up with that? That ain't natural! Come on Candlebright, they didn't target us, so we'll give that oaf a what for!"
The Litwick put on its best fighting face and hovered over towards Rekt as it spit several small gouts of flame at the raging man.
