Leddin Town The Lima Region is a small insular area quite far from the known regions, but recently it has pushed forward the documents to become a recognized part of the Pokémon League. Despite its traditional values and overall unique ecosystem, the descendant of the Tanoby people want to finally come out of their separate archipelago and be a part of the greater world. Fantastic! Of course, much is still necessary and that's where you come in. As a professor's protegé, you have been chosen to be one of the three trainers to experience Lima as a foreigner. A whole new League with unfamiliar pokémon, your task is to evaluate if the region is up to the necessary standards to accept new trainers, as well as help catalog the new pokémon species in the pokédex. It might be a little daunting to face a new challenge when everything is unknown, but if you've been selected it's because you can handle it.
What to Expect What's up, guys? My name is Toby and I'm looking for some players to help me out with a project. This will be my first time GMing a PbP game, so be cool, ok? One thing I really miss when playing PTU is the awe factor. When I play a new pokémon game, I'm always surprised and curious about the new generation. I capture everything to find their abilities and types, try to evolve all of them to see the new species and really have a lot of fun. In PTU, well... I know the pokémon. They might be type-shifted, they might be special, but they are familiar. So I want to replicate this factor in a PTU game and of course, the solution is fakemon. I found lots of good quality fakemon online and have adapted many to PTU with the hopes of making a game where you'll really know hopefully nothing about. There will be new abilities, capabilities and moves, as well as a different mechanic you'll find out in play. With few exceptions for story reasons - namely Unown and a couple of legendaries - there will be only fakémon in this region, including the traditional fire-grass-water starters you'll receive once the game begins. This will be basically a gym crawl adventure with a few things here and there and an overall plot. No evil teams here, though. That means trainer combat won't be standard, but it might happen. We might use skype or discord for communication, as well as roll20 for maps, but that will be decided as a group. Nothing is necessary for now.
Character Creation I'm looking for 3 players (one for each starter) and characters start at level 3. They might come from any of the known regions and even have been trainers there (although level 3 means they hadn't gone very far yet.) All playtests and side books are in use, and all classes are allowed. Yes, that includes Elementalists and Psychics, but those are very, very rare and there should be a good justification for them, in-character. You can start with 2,000 cash, but you also get a pack that includes 10 basic balls, 3 potions, 2 enriched water, a revive, a tent, a flashlight and a lighter. The starters will be given once you arrive at Leddin Town, but the three players will have some say in its overall function. I have quite a few possible starters, so once players have been decided we'll discuss options. Long backstories are not necessary, but I'd like to know why your character was selected for the project. You don't need to be a researcher nor anything like that. Since the objective is to test Lima League, trainers of all kinds would be good for that. So what set you apart? I'll take applications until Friday, 17th. In case I've forgotten anything, just ask away and I'll answer as soon as possible =)
Current ApplicationsApplicant | Character | Description | lavrence | Dolan | A young man who used to train pokémon from others and is finally ready to start his own adventure. | oddeyes | Felicia Hightower | A young ambitious woman who wants nothing but to be the very best. Including conquering a brand new region. | frigidscholar | Haruka Omiya | An expert in the supernatural who wants to experience new things and explore the new region's occult rumors. | lavrence | Lance | A medical practitioner interested in discovering the biological variance of the new region, despite his lack of interested in battles. | chckturkn | Elliot Grimshaw | A young man with a deep love for pokémon, he wants nothing but to befriend as many as possible, no matter who they are. | Harbringer of Insanity | Tobias Pratt | A young man seeking to use ancient monastic traditions and teachings in his own, new training methods. | spikehed | Asa Tatako | A young woman with an interest in fossil pokémon and an obsession to prove her training methods are top-notch. | manicmeeple | Dean Masterson | After failing in his previous League attempt, this young man has dedicated his life to studying new and unorthodox tactics to win. | joegus | Ethan Castren | A young man with lots of experience breeding pokémon now leaving his comfort zone to explore a new region and meet the unknown. | TrueEndingEliza | Marcielle Emerique | This young socialite with an eye for the arts is heading to Lima with the goal of enriching its culture. Becoming famous is just a plus. | lichlord | Erica Anglewood | A smart woman with a knack for electronics, particularly pokéballs, and a less than desirable past looking for a way out. |

Yes, that includes Elementalists and Psychics, but those are very, very rare and there should be a good justification for them, in-character. You should probably clarify explicitly if this is, in fact all side books or just certain parts of them (say, specific classes). Are you sure you want sci-fi technology, glitches, and Legendary Gifts as part of your game to start, since it doesn't quite sound like this game is exactly about that sort of stuff.

Well, to be honest, while the game is definitely not about that, I don't really like banning stuff. Surely certain classes from DPDoM are more fit to the setting than others (and I don't really enjoy the idea of pokébots), but it's all about how you sell it. BatD is even more difficult to accept. That being said, I'll stand by my previous saying that everything is allowed, but those things will be REALLY hard to go through. Consider it a challenge to wow me. You have an awesome concept for how that fits the theme of the game? Go ahead! You're picking stuff just to be an uber character? That will be a hard no.

This sounds fun, creating a character for it now. Think I will go for a straight on Ace Trainer, with commander to back it up. Sheet will be here: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1WjrxLNNlsqzpRf37lZkWIMCNQYDFFry-iFx5Na-nsE4/edit?usp=sharingBio Here: Without even owning a pokemon Dolan has made a name for himself as a skilled trainer. With people throughout the town bringing him their companions to teach, train and help improve in various ways. It is now time for Dolan to get his own pokemon and to go on an adventure of his own. NOTES: There is a start for the character. I will add more to the fluff later for now its bed.

This seems interesting! Here is a little something I threw together. This is Felicia Hightower She's a Taskmaster/Ace Trainer who is looking to conquer the new region, and become its champion! Let me know what you think, and if anything needs to be changed or fixed.

I am really happy another game is going up on these boards, I was slowly suspecting I wouldn't be able to find anything interesting on short notice.
I share your sentiment about wanting to be amazed. I've just recently started to use some fakemon in my son's game and I really like how they've been received so far. I'll start working on a character right away and will post my character asap.
For a concept I'm thinking about a defense focused trickster. Someone looking for Pokémon with unique abilities to give him an edge in battle.

This looks pretty neat! I've got a Sage/Mentor that might work. So here's Haruka Omiya. She's pretty much just looking to see some new sights more than anything else, hoping her knowledge about the spooky will help make sure the region's safe for trainers that might go down it. If the whole Sage thing doesn't really fit, lemme know and I can come up with something else. Or if I missed anything else for that matter.

lavrence Yeah, no problem. If you feel like applying more than once, go ahead. More options is always nice! And just as a side note for the character you presented already, he might have had pokémon before. He could have even been a trainer in the region he comes from, if you want, so you don't need to be restricted to fully inexperienced people. You start at level 3, after all... Thanks for applying! oddeyes I really like the idea of an ambitious go-getter who pushes herself a little too much. It would definitely come in handy to try out this new League, and a not-so-friendly character always generates party drama. Thanks for applying! manicmeeple Glad someone else feels the same way. I will be waiting for your character anxiously then =) frigidscholar Although you didn't know before, your character is quite apt for the challenge ahead. The Lima Region is very traditional in its ways, and it includes a fairly occult practice you'll soon find out. A small note, though: Basic Cooking might not be taken as the level 2 bonus Edge as it should be a Skill Edge, defined on page 52 of Core. In the case of Haruka, there's an easy fix: just say you got Basic Cooking on level 1, and then Basic Skill (General Education) as the bonus on level 2. It has the same final result. Thanks for applying!

Yea i figured i would go with someone from the region at hand and be kinda a local pokemon whisperer of sorts.

Whoops, fixed. It completely slipped my mind that that was a thing. Well, as you said, it wasn't that serious of a change anyway. Also it's good to know Haruka's Occult Edu will be useful

lavrence Added the second character to the table. Healers are always useful in a group, for sure. And thanks for helping out the new guy. Very kind of you. chckturknA capture specialist would be very handy to complete the pokédex of this new region, for sure! And new players are always welcome. If you need any help or any questions, we are all here to help. Thanks for applying!

Have some Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Link
The idea behind the character is that they look very stoic and menacing, but they're actually very clumsy and have no idea how to lie. They push their Pokemon hard to ensure that they are the very best, and in fact are going to take Taskmaster for that reason, but they do care for them: they just only show it when they're not battling with them or training. I imagine that they were raised on the streets and went through a lot of hardship for that reason, so they want to train their Pokemon to be just as tough as them. Not sure whether or not I'll take Press. Please give me bulkier Pokemon! Thank you.

Alright, crunch is done, will work on fluff later. Here is Tobias Pratt, an Artificer/Duelist seeking to use ancient monastic traditions and teachings in his own, new training methods. Also, GM_3826, your permission aren't set at the moment, so we currently can't see anything.

I'm interested in making an archeologist who wants to prove that fossil mon's time isn't over. Would it be possible to start with a fossil and do you have any plans for fakemon fossils? Here's Asa Takako, my cold-hearted archeologist.
