"There we go, all safe now" Ethan told the Bounsweet. "I don't know why they were chasing you, but if you want to you could come with me. We'll take care of you from now on, if you'd like that"

Via stays ready an alert for a few moments after the last dog goes down, but eventually she is satisfied, holstering her glaive and looking down at her turtwig with a blank expression. "Sorry, haven't thought of a name yet. You'll get one soon, just need a more memorable battle."
With that, she recalls the 'twig and walks over to Ethan and his new friend. "Hopefully when they wake up they'll tell all their friends not to mess with us, will make exploring easier if we're not constantly attacked by dogs."

"Dogs are territorial. They shouldn't follow us out of what they consider 'their space'" Ethan quipped, though he did nod to concede the point. "And even if it wasn't, that was a pretty solid trouncing we just gave them. Should be enough to make it clear we're the stronger party"
He fished a small vial of water and opened it as Iota floated close, using the water to moisturize the clay pokemon's body and then using the now pliable material to buff out any bumps and bite marks left by the canines.

Amanda calms as the battle comes to an end. Seems her new charmander will have to wait for a test. Although admittedly that battle went way faster than she thought originally. She calls them both back behind her. As the others converse, she pipes up as she applies an energy root to Ul's wounds.
"I suppose even though it'd be a true test of endurance... yes being attacked over and over would be... less than ideal."

Via shrugs. "I'm sure I could fight of plenty more if necessary, but it's better if it doesn't come to that."
Via then looks to the little pokemon, crouching down and fixing it in her hazel gaze, examining it curiously. It probably looks more like a death stare to onlookers, but she's actually quite fascinated with it.

The Bounsweet hesitates, especially when Via gets close, but bounces forwards a little before leaping into Ethan's arms with enough force to push him back a little, trilling happily.

Ethan couldn't help but smile and laugh a little at the force of the jump.
"Excited, aren't we? I need to key a pokeball to you, but we can do that in a bit. Thank you for trusting me, dear. You're gonna need a name, since saying 'you' or 'bounsweet' sounds rude and I need to save the endearments so they're actually special. Hmm... how 'bout Eta? It sounds feminine, doesn't it?"
He then turned, still carrying his new Pokemon, and recalled Iota with his offhand before releasing Tau.
"Well, with that out of the way, we should keep going shouldn't we?"

Amanda nods.
"Yes lets keep heading in."
She looks to her pokemon, now getting more and more curious about how Ekki could do in a fight and kinda hopes they end up in another scuffle soon.

The rest of your journey to Vertigris Forest is uneventful, with no other wild pokemon disturbing the calm of the morning. The forest is unmistakable - as you draw close you see the sunlight reflecting off of the metallic leaves, tree trunks covered in pale green moss and the soft hum of numerous unseen insects and birds.
The path splits in two in the forest, presumably forming a loop for tourists. The left hand path is far sunnier and follows a stream you can see in the distance, while the right hand path is darker and leads to the deepest parts of the forest. Or you could ignore the paths and find your own way through the trees.

Amanda looks around at the strange forest in front of her. She looks at their two options, and turns to the two of them.
"I'm unsure about you two, but I am here for data. Not for sightseeing."
She looks at the two paths as Ekki and Ul look on from behind her.
"I believe the direct path into the forest will propose the quickest way to find various pokemon of many forest types. Although I suppose..."
She looks to the clear path.
"I mean maybe going along the stream will find us many water pokemon."
Ekki looks a little averse to the water and looks to Amanda.
"But it seems it may not be the best idea to train 'everyone' here."

"I'm not averse to trekking off the beaten path, no. Sounds like it could be fun, but bugs may be scary for Eta here"
Ethan had keyed his new Pokemon to a pokeball during the walk, but the pink pokemon seemed to like being carried so he decided to keep her outside.
"Then again, that just means Tau and Iota may have to carry the bulk of the fighting. No problems with the more forested road, Via?"

The they come across the fork in the road, Via stops for a moment, and for the first time truly takes in the forest. The sun and stream seemed so inviting to her, the water burbling leaving much more pleasant impression of bodies of water on her than the ocean had. Part of her just wanted to lay down next to the stream and just soak it all in. The deeper forest had its own allure too; she knew what trees and forests were, even if there were very few where she was from, but to be in the middle of it all, so many trees so densely packed that the sun could barely shine through, a cool and inviting dark place, quite unlike the damp, smelly darkness of the Underground... It was a lot to take in.
As her name is said, Via takes a few moment to snap out of her reverie, a flicker of a flustered expression crossing her face paired with the hint of a blush. "Wha- oh, yeah, that's... yeah that's fine." That said and done, she distractedly begins soaking in the forest again, but not as deeply as before, mentally chiding herself for letting her guard down.

If Amanda was more socially knowledgable, she'd maybe catch that reaction from Via. All she really gets is just the acceptance that they are all going to the dark path. Ul seems to maybe notice but doesn't do anything, and just follows in.

Ethan tried to not bring his new companion's momentary fugue state to attention too much, but he couldn't help but smile a little. It had just been so cute to see her lost in the moment like that.
"Sure's beautiful around here, eh?" he did say, a little teasing but trying not to lay it on too thick in case she took it the wrong way. "I take it you're not used to forests"

Via narrows her eyes in annoyance as Ethan catches her distractedness, but she can't stay annoyed for long, with the surroundings, responding after a few moments. "There's barely any trees in Orre, let alone forests. Mostly just desert. I grew up in a mining town in the middle of it, never had a chance to leave. My first time seeing real trees was a few weeks ago, when I was on the way to Gateon Port to catch the ferry. But even those trees were nothing like this..." At this point she fully gives up trying to mask her wonder, just peacefully looking around and soaking it all in.

"I see. I can sort-of understand the feel. Icirrus, the place I come from, is very forested and cold, especially during winter. The first time I went to Lumiose and saw the desert wastes north of the city, it was pretty shocking and incredible. Though I can't quite imagine a place with no forest"
Ethan inhaled deeply, taking in the smells of the forest.
"There's just something about places like this, you know? So full of nature, of life" he said.

You move deeper into the forest, watching the light slowly fade from your surroundings as the canopy grows denser and higher. Eventually you find that more light comes from glowing moss on the tree trunks and clusters of mushrooms amid the taller and stronger tree roots. The darkness almost keeps you from noticing the slight rise in the path, a hill you climb and climb before suddenly finding the other slope.
A surprisingly vast valley stretches before you, with several large empty areas forming natural, extremely sunny paths. You couldn't see it coming as the trees here grow as tall as those that have surrounded you so far. The heavily forested sections clearly have paths through the branches as much as on the ground, with numerous simian pokemon climbing them and picking at berries growing on branches or from cracks in the trunks. In the sunlight valleys you can see a large Torterra slowly walking away from you, numerous bug pokemon clustering around it's back and seemingly eating something.
Which way do you go? (Also roll me a perception check if you wanted to try finding a Mushroom pokemon on the path here)

Ethan frowned.
"Something about what's happening with that Torterra doesn't look quite right. Want to check it out?"

"I will agree that it does catch the eye, and it could be worth investigating. Lead the way, Ethan."
Amanda waits to follow him, but keeps in mind that bugs are very weak to Ekki's fire, and would be a 'safe' test for him.
