While the girls handled the food for their Pokemon, Iris diligently ate her way through her own mystery gelatin after a congratulatory, "Good work, girls. That should be more than enough for your Pokemon." <Waste not. Want not,> she cheered herself on through the mass of multi-flavored but identically textured jelly. She could try returning the gelatin now that it was partially eaten and hope that it disappeared, but that would just look silly if it didn't work. Iris didn't feel like looking silly.
Between two scoops of gelatin, though, Iris did remember her manner. After clearing her mouth of the previous scoop and before swallowing the next one, she expressed gratitude to Shossk, "Oh, Shossk, thanks for telling me about needing to put the plate in for anything to appear." Then she looked at her next spoonful and ate it while trying her best to imagine a texture that wasn't jelly-like.
Starting to get sick of the meal, Iris held off on the next bite by finding a question to ask, "So everyone, I don't know if I just missed it, but have you given your Pokemon nicknames yet? I mean... that's not a strange concept exclusive to my world or anything, right?" A frown of concern passed over Iris's face as she tried to figure out under what kinds of circumstances naming Pokemon one knew wouldn't be the norm, which of course led to trying to figure out what the equivalent for Pokemon were in other worlds. The only equivalent she knew for certain were fish that couldn't breathe air. How would a creature that couldn't poke its nose out of the water even function as a companion?

Shossk blinks and again glances at his dartrix. It was only a few minutes ago that he had learned that these creatures would not simply fade away back to a home Plane after serving their purpose, and only several moments ago that he was informed that they possessed their own free will despite being bound to their owners. They would be permanent additions to the party.
"I have nnot considered one. Do they not havve names of their own?"

They go to... oh... After coming to her own conclusion, Yoko decides to not press the matter further. She instead concentrates on gathering up all of the dropped food into her arms, before she then walked back over and set them down beside the cornucopia. Seeing Layl already short of breath, Yoko quickly walked over to the girl's side and gave her a helping hand. "You okay, Layl? You shouldn't push yourself too hard. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it," Yoko reassured Layl, staying by the girl's side as long as necessary to make sure she didn't collapse and hurt herself. "Maybe you should have something to eat, just to be safe. Here," Yoko then quickly reached back to the cornucopia and picked a red apple off the top of the pile, then offering the chosen fruit to Layl. "At least eat this."
Once Layl had accepted the fruit and started looking better, Yoko slowly stepped away from Layl and walked back over to her own seat, ready to jump right back to her side if things suddenly made a turn for the worse. However, it looked as though Layl was alright now, so Yoko sat back down and resumed eating her katsudon, but not before turning to address Iris' query. "Yeah, I gave him a name earlier. I figured it would be better than calling him 'Remoraid' or 'fish' all the time, so I named him Bang," Yoko replied as she turned her attention to her Remoraid, who had likewise turned to stare at his trainer when he heard his name be called. "And no, it wasn't a strange thing where I come from to give your pet a name, and before you say that they aren't pets, I know that, but it's still kind of like having a pet."
With all of that said and done, Yoko went back to eating her katsudon, intent on finishing it before it got cold. As she was eating, her eyes flickered over to Bang, who was staring intently at Yoko and at the food she was eating. Yoko then quickly came to realize that she was eating food without offering anything to her Remoraid, and her eyes quickly flickered over to the cornucopia. "Oh! Sorry, Bang! Here, let me get something for you," Yoko quickly apologized and reached over to the cornucopia, grabbing a few fruits and vegetables from the pile and placing them in front of Bang's mouth. The Remoraid's eyes then flickered over to the food that had been presented to him, and he started digging in to the food. Now that her Remoraid had been given something to eat, Yoko returned to eating her own food, hopefully without any further interruptions.

Layl accepted the apple from Yoko, it wasn't trouble just to eat a snack. She nods her thanks to Yoko before she bites into the little red fruit. Layl munches on that first bite for a second before she swallows, and then gives out a content sigh at the taste. She sits there for a moment still catching her breath, but as Layl finally processed Iris' nickname question she proceeded to give a dry glare at the girl, as if to say 'are you really asking me that?'. After a moment Layl shook her head and faced Yoko, giving her a smile as she saw the girl feeding the fish. "Thanks again, Yoko! You're doing great on your first other world adventure, probably better than I was...granted I got a magic sword and had to fight Heartless immediately when I landed, at least Al is giving us prep time, and boy am I thankful for that, I would still be lost that these things weren't Heartless, well at least for Nacht and...?" She realized the other one had never had a name stated so she turned towards the person who had just asked the question herself, posing it back onto Iris "What's the little guy's name?"

"Well..." Iris had to think about how to answer Shossk's question. It wasn't a hard answer. She just didn't know if the way she wanted to answer it was appropriate. A little hesitantly, she stuck with plan A, "Yeah, Pokemon do have names for themselves, but unless you want to be saying something like, insert a rather accurate imitation of how Amy used to refer to herself when she was an Eevee, "you're better off giving your partner a name that you feel fits, and that's just one species' way of saying it. Besides, most Pokemon don't mind being given a name by their trainer, as long as it's not insulting or anything. They're really understanding about how most humans, or... erm... human equivalents can't translate what they're saying."
Iris got a short break to continue shoveling a little of the jelly into her mouth while Yoko introduced her Remoraid's name. Bang. Iris didn't know what that was supposed to mean, but she nodded appreciatively anyways. She also added a little comment of, "Actually, a lot of people consider their Pokemon pets," with a wave of her hand that was supposed to imply that how Yoko, and anyone else, chose to think of their Pokemon was up to them. Having weird powers from birth came with the territory of understanding real quick that not everyone saw the world the same way, and that included how they saw and treated Pokemon. Iris preferred to only ruin people's lives if they were truly mistreating their Pokemon.
Then it was Layl's turn, and when Iris looked over at the usually cheery girl, she was met with a glare that honestly confused her. <What did I do to offend her?> Iris wondered as she chewed on her jelly, wishing she had something with more substance in the texture. It appeared that Layl wasn't too angry, though, as she smiled at Yoko, <So does that mean she just hates me?>. Well, Iris was just glad that Layl answered her question. It turned out that "Nacht" wasn't some generic means of labeling someone, like "onii-san" or "baka" or "thick-skulled, stone for brains." Wait, scratch that last one. Iris remembered she had never actually said that to Xenna out loud, just in her head.
Anyways, now that Layl had given Nacht as the name for her Zorua, Iris proceed to stuff the biggest spoonful of gelatin yet into her mouth to avoid answering the question thrown her way. In a rather obvious show of avoiding the question befitting her pathetic guild, the only trainer of the quartet to not have her Pokemon out looked all the way into the corner of the room opposite of Layl and mumbled something indistinguishable through her mouth full of food. It was about the flavor explosion happening in her mouth, which was incredibly overwhelmingly and making her regret having resorted to the "face full of food" method to avoid giving an answer. This was why Iris had been taking such small bites of the gelatin she was trying her best to finish quickly.

"Believe me, I'm still confused about what's going on," Yoko admitted in between bites of her food; "but at least I have you three to help me out." Soon enough Yoko finished off her katsudon, and she set her chopsticks down onto the bowl before putting her hands together in prayer once more. "Gochisousama," she then muttered to herself, and turned to her attention back to the conversation. Noticing that Iris had chosen to avoid the question rather than answer, Yoko safely pieces together what was going on and asks, "you haven't given your pet a name yet, have you?"

With the info that Iris hadn't decided on a name yet coming to light, Layl decided to assist the girl...in the most annoying fashion possible. "ooh~ What about Herz? or maybe Cor? Animus is good too..." Layl began to list off names in a jumble, her hand coming up to her chin as she thought more of the subject, stating names as they came to mind. "Koko is a good one too, Nisha and Orpheus work, Noctis is a good choice though that's a bit close to Nacht, Aspen is another one I like, maybe Aven?" Someone should stop her because Layl doesn't look like she is stopping anytime soon.
Nacht was glaring up from under the table as Layl listed so many names, Why did she decide his so quick but have like three hundred for the other one, that wasn't fair. His master was the worst sometimes, the little fox gave a huff and turned towards Yoko, pawing at her legs beneath the table in an effort to get attention.

Shossk glances over at Iris, then over to Nacht due to Iris owning the same type of creature. "Wwhat abilities do thesse creatures have? That may givve insight into what it'ss name should be."

Feeling a pressing sensation on her leg, Yoko looks down to see Layl's fox-like creature pawing at her. "Did you need something, little guy?" she asked in a sweet voice, her attention gotten.

Iris started coughing. Not intentionally. She had just swallowed her food wrong. After the coughing fit passed, she decided she had enough of her gelatinous mass. It was about halfway eaten, so hoping that was enough gone, Iris took it over to the trash can and tossed it into the bottomless abyss. The motions of throwing away her half-eaten food bought Iris enough time for a suggestion, specifically Shossk's, to save her from her predicament.
"Actually, yes!" Iris heartily agreed, speaking loud enough to cut off Layl's endless string of suggestions. The existence of her own naming scheme aside, Iris didn't want to pull her Zorua out of the Pokeball just yet. She needed more time to think about it, but because she didn't have that time, she had compartmentalized and pushed the problem aside. There were a lot of things she liked doing with others, but this wasn't just one of them, especially since all of them were so new to Pokemon. She... didn't want to seem like a hypocrite, preaching about how Pokemon needed to be treated as nicely and as some of the best allies they'd get while she had mixed feelings of fear and anger at her own Pokemon simply because of the evolutionary tree Zorua belonged to. To finish her statement, still very loudly she suggested to the others, "Well, we've all eaten, so let's head to the field room! We'll have a lot of room for our Pokemon to move, there, and we can finally get started on battling." Hopefully, the prospect of trying something new and important would distract everyone, including Layl, like Iris hoped.
Anyways, Iris led the way with gusto. She left the kitchen behind, giving a wave of her hand to beckon the others to follow, and entered the field room first. Recalling the whole closed door dilemma, she made sure that the door remained open behind her. Upon entry, she visualized as vividly as possible the Pokemon League standard battle field. It would be a brown dirt field with white lines that marked the boundaries of the field, the trainers' boxes, and a Pokeball shape in between the two sides. Benches would be present for the viewers, and past the first few meters surrounding the match area would be a plain of green grass in case things got a bit out of hand. There was, intentionally, no water sources on this field. Remoraids excelled in water, this was true, but fighting in water wasn't going to happen often, especially when the rest of the group, including the Remoraid's heavily armed trainer, would likely fare better on land than water.

The little guy hopped up Yoko's leg, trying to get the girl to pick him up so he could lay on her lap. Maybe this would get his master jealous, being really affectionate with another person. He made a sound that sounded close to a snigger as he plotted to make his master pay attention. And then he heard Iris and let out a pathetic mewl. His plan was ruined again!
Layl stared at the girl as she charged out of the room. She didn't even wait for anyone to agree, just how rude was Iris? Oh well, Layl doesn't really care if your rude as long as you prove to be a good person, which despite that Iris seemed to be nice...just not courteous. Layl shrugged and jumped out of her seat. "Well, I don't want her to end up fighting herself so we better follow after, come on Nacht!" She started her way out, following after Iris. When she entered the room, she cringed as thoughts of the graveyard popped inside her mind, She quickly shook her head trying to rid herself of the thoughts, but it was too late. The Keyblade Graveyard was stuck in her head again
Nacht meanwhile stayed with Yoko, trying to make it seem like he had changed sides to the taller girl's team by following her. He could make his plan work yet.

Shossk simply gets up as the others abruptly decide to leave, swiftly grabbing his scattered gloves as he exits the kitchen. The dartrix notices his trainer leaving and quickly gobbles his last piece of food down before fluttering down and trotting along behind him.
Upon entering the 'room' Shossk cautiously enters what seems to be an open field with a small dirt arena, with only the open doorway leading back to the lobby left to indicate this was a room at all. The dartrix immediately takes to the skies, happily doing some laps in the air around the arena.
Eventually Shossk refocuses on Iris, waiting expectantly.

And just like that, everyone had left the room, leaving Yoko alone at the table with only Bang and Nacht to keep her company. Wait, why was Nacht still here? And why was he looking at her so expectantly? "Hey, Nacht? Aren't you going to follow Layl?" she asked the Zorua, looking back to the door that everyone else had left out of. Meanwhile Bang had finished eating one of the fruits he had been given, and was already halfway through the second one before Yoko suddenly scooped him up, and he gave a surprised cheep. "Sorry, Bang. I know you're eating, but we don't want to be left behind," Yoko sincerely apologized to her Remoraid, feeling bad for depriving him of food, but at the same time she didn't want to be left behind. Though he was unhappy about it, Bang gave an acknowledging chirp, showing that he at least understood his trainer's intentions. Yoko quickly picked up her backpack that she had set down at some point and slung it over one shoulder, then went to leave the room and join the others in the field room. She stopped, however, when she remembered that Nacht was still in the room with her, and so she turned to him and said, "you should come along too, Nacht." She waited for the Zorua to start following her before she left the dining room and headed over to the field room.

As Iris mentally pictured the League arena the plain began to shift, flattening itself while the water seemed to drain away. Once the landscape had become flat as far as the eye could see the ground beneath her feet began to melt and change. Grass giving way to dirt, benches growing out of the ground until they stood ready with a soft popping noise. The white outlines were last seeming to bubble up from below.
Once Layl entered and could not stop thinking about the previous graveyard she found her worries were unfounded, for some reason the room no longer reacted to her thoughts.

Layl tentatively looked around, everything was fine, it wasn't her nightmare. She let out an audible sigh of relief. She had been so worried over nothing, apparently. Wait, She forgot Nacht! She quickly turned around and ran back only to immediately trip over herself in surprise as she saw Nacht trailing along with Yoko. She face planted right into the dirt, a loud groan coming from her as she picked herself up from the ground. "I don't want to do that again..." She started patting her clothes, trying to get the dirt off as she collected what little dignity and grace she had left.
Unbeknownst to her, Nacht began sniggering at her misfortune, if nothing else he got revenge on her, and it was so easy too.

Iris stepped up to the borders of the newly created league arena and paused to look about her in mild wonder. Layl had explained it, so she was prepared for what she saw, but that still didn't make it any less impressive. After taking in the, well, rather plain landscape, Iris turned on her heels to look at the others, with Yoko just filing in with her Bang and Layl's Nacht. Seeing that at least Shossk was looking at her attentively, Iris got read to start… only for Layl to trip herself. <Maybe… it’s a better idea to make sure everyone is ready first,> Iris blinked in surprise. Then she saw the Zorua's face and two and two clicked together. "Ahh...," Iris couldn't help but smile a bit herself. She was once on the receiving end of that sort of treatment, and because she understood, she didn't say a word about Nacht. This was for the trainer and Pokemon to figure out between themselves. She did offer her condolences, though, "Are you okay, Layl?" even if it was with a smile she could not hide. Well, at least the smile didn't look like Iris was mocking Layl. The vibes Iris gave off were more along the lines of... encouraging Layl while enjoying herself? If the area in front of the door wasn't so crowded, Iris would probably have moved up, but as it was, she chose to stand next to the arena.
Once Layl had given some sort of confirmation that she was, indeed, not dying, Iris would get everything rolling. She asked the others, ”Alright, so is everyone ready? Because this explanation is probably going to be long... I think. We'll see.”

Layl stared straight at Iris, why was she smiling like that? She didn't rip something did she. Her hands danced over her outfit in even more pats, checking to see if any of her outfit had ripped. She eventually ended up satisfied that nothing had gone wrong, though a few ribbons were out of place. Her eyes honed in on Iris once more as she crossed her own arms, her face in between worried and confused. Layl hopes this had just been a string of bad circumstances but it seems every time she and Iris spoke she would rush past the subject. She thought they could be friends when Iris first opened up when they talked about Eevees, but after that she seemed to try and move on as fast as possible when Layl was involved. Maybe it was just Iris, maybe she was like this with everyone....Layl just hoped Iris didn't hate her or something.

”Alright, so is everyone ready? Because this explanation is probably going to be long... I think. We'll see.” Shossk continues to stand there, staring, unblinking. "Yyes."With the lesson about to start, the dartrix swoops on down to land on top of one of the benches.

Yoko arrived just in time to watch Layl trip over herself and promptly plant her face in the dirt, which elicited a sharp gasp from Yoko. "Layl?! Are you okay?! You're not hurt, are you?!" she cried out in concern, rushing over to the poor girl's side and helping her up, then assisted in patting the dirt off of her. Once she deemed that she had helped Layl enough, Yoko backed off and turned to address Iris when the girl asked if they were ready. "I'm as ready as I'll ever be, I guess," she replied with a hesitant nod, her eyes glancing back at Layl to make sure the other girl was alright.

Layl... hadn't said anything. While Shossk and Yoko both replied in the affirmative, Layl just stared quietly at Iris. Iris, waiting for an answer from everyone, noticed this. If she had to guess, then it didn't look like Layl was in a good mood. The smile on Iris's face, from when she saw Nacht fooling around with his trainer to when Shossk and Yoko both stated their readiness, dropped for a little when she took note of the silence coming from the cross-armed Layl. "I'm... sorry?" Iris reflexively offered, out of both a tendency to apologize and a gut feeling that Layl had somehow felt wronged by her. She didn't know why she got the latter, but she was prone to follow her gut feelings. Of course, just saying sorry wasn't going to get anywhere... probably. Repeating the question was redundant, just like this sentence. At a bit of a loss on what to say, Iris sort of vaguely offered, "Um... Would you like some time, Layl? Before I continue, that is." Iris knew that she would like some time off to sort her thoughts even if they probably weren't what was making Layl pause. She could just hold it in--minus when questions started to hit a little too close to home for comfort, like just a little bit ago--but that didn't mean anyone else had to.
