"O does have a point," Maela added lightly. "And I'm sure they wouldn't be calling for you if it wasn't important. We'll see each other again soon, I'm sure. We'll certainly miss you with us, though." She whispered a small command to Clòimhe and sent the little Woobat over to Amelia. Her heart-shaped nose bumped against Amelia's shoulder lightly, offering a fuzzy bat cuddle.
"It will be good to have you with us, certainly, Elys." She knew the white-haired young woman was a terror with a blade, even if she wasn't exactly the most talkative. But Maela was pretty sure that between Lana, Morgan, and herself, they could handle negotiating well enough if it became necessary; a strong sword-arm was unlikely to be a bad addition, especially if they ran afoul of more packs of Pokémon like that nest of Ekans.

Amelia kept her pout, but didn't complain too much after the encouragement. Once dinner was done, the squires sent their Pokemon back to the academy for rest and instead returned to their rooms for the night.
The next morning saw Amelia saying goodbyes and riding the Blitzle back towards Lornas where she would meet the rest of the group that was headed to Sylahan. The remaining squires ate their breakfast and readied themselves for the rest of the trip towards Midvall.

"Let's see. Bow in place, arrows are sharp. Head is clear as an opal! Huzzah!" Morgan shined his way through the morning, polishing his pads with pride and making sure that every little thing was in it's place. Such a beautiful morning! He meets the others outside, and gives all assembled a glowing smile. "Alright my friends! What path do we take today? What road of destiny awaits us?"

After such a wonderful dinner and good night's sleep, Lana found herself struggling to come to terms with the morning, and nearly had to drag herself through wake-up exercises with her pokemon and teammates. Kel and Chlua were happy for it, at any rate, and eagerly got to practice for a solid half-hour with Lana tiredly cheering them on. Breakfast was quick and dry, and by the time she'd geared up and recalled the pokemon to their pearls, she was slightly more awake. Enough to actually socialize with other humans. She returns Morgan's smile at the meeting point, but it's punctuated by a yawn. "G'morning. The path that takes us to where we want to be, I do hope."Fed Chlua another Baby Food.

Poor Lana, stuck in a group with morning people. Granted, Maela is habitually a light sleeper, as the female half of the team probably already knows, so it's not really a surprise she's also a morning person. At breakfast, she took the opportunity to inquire of Megara about their find of the previous day. "Did an injured traveler pass through here recently? They'd probably have been a courier of some kind, or possibly someone running messages for a noble. They may have been bitten by Ekans. We found some things on the road yesterday and were wondering whether their owner might have come this way."
Once they're all gathered together, Maela gestures to the road ahead. "Well, whatever our ultimate destiny, our first goal is Midvall. We have a long road ahead of us."

O had woken up with the sun, and after a quick check off making sure all his equipment was good to go, he grabbed Nimbus' and Bryn's spirit beads and headed outside. Getting a bit of stretching in he started his daily routine of running with both Bryn and Nimbus keeping up as best they could. He finished right around the time breakfast started, so he sent the two back in their beads, and washed up a bit before grabbing a bite to eat.
O was sad to see Amelia go, but at least they had a strong replacement for her. And with a dry sarcastic response to Morgan, "This path, and hopefully the successful finding of Lady Gwenhael."

The group set off, leaving Maidenshrine and the vast grasslands of the Lornan Steppe as the vegetation started to thicken. From their knowledge, Gwyddel's road would take them to Midvall in five days' time but as the forest started getting denser, they'd have a harder time finding proper places to rest. According to their map, at least one night of camping awaited them before reaching a logger's hamlet.
As the number of trees increased, the group noticed a man frantically praying at a small shrine that rested at the edge of the forest.

"...And that's why my mother doesn't cook Tepig anymore!" Says Morgan with a stylistic flourish. He wasn't sure if anyone had listened to his long, harrowing tale about heartache and tough pork, but he felt better after telling it. Besides, someone had to fill the hours! There so, so much walking to be done. But, at least they were near civilization at long last. Just a few more hours of walking and- Oh?
There seems to be a man at the side of the road. Praying? Certainly looked like something was bothering him quite deeply. Morgan bit his lip. It was not within him to willingly keep the company of sad or worried people. Early wrinkles spring early from the well of sorrow. The young squire quickens his pace quietly, and attempts to ignore the man.

Maela, on the other hand, slowed down when they neared the troubled-looking man at the little shrine. True, they had a mission, but stopping to see what was bothering the poor soul wouldn't take too long, surely. They had a duty to look out for the people of Leora, after all - the knights were the protectors of the kingdom as well as the nobles.
She glanced around at the others before turning to approach the man. "Pardon me, sir. I'm sorry to intrude, but you seem distressed. Is there something troubling you?"

Lana's eyes widen at the plea; there was no way she'd be able to ignore a request like that! She looks at the rest of her companions, one at a time, trying to meet there eyes and wondering if any would dare be heartless enough to turn down the man's troubled request.
"Could you tell us more, sir?" she says, settling her shield and kneeling down beside him. "We're fair unfamiliar with this area, but you have my word we'll do what we can to help. What is it that's happened? Please, take a deep breath and recount what you can..."

"Yes! Do not fear! We are squires, brave and bold, so recount good sir, and we shall rescue your beautiful maidens!" Morgan proclaims, now thoroughly invested in this venture. To save a beautiful maiden, what more could one ask from a quest?!

If Maela hadn't been prepared to help, she wouldn't have stopped to begin with. "Of course, sir, we'll do everything we can to help. There's no need to offer anything."
Quietly, she added, "My name is Maela Tanarth, of Arinum." Sometimes the reputation for toughness that desert-dwellers had in the rest of the kingdom amused Maela, but she was willing to trade on it to ease the man's fears about putting them in danger. Though them being squires was apparently enough in any case - and after all, this truly was what she'd become a squire for, to protect the people of Leora and bring hope where it was needed most.

Eoghan, Mustached Baker __________________________________ | "My name is Eoghan, and I am but a simple baker from the hamlet of Al's Retreat"
The man stood from his previous kneeling position, and motioned to a Tauros cart that you had missed, being instead focused on the small shrine.
"I came to Maidenshrine for my take in flour and other goods that are needed for my craft, and received a missive from home by 'krow just yesterday. The road has always been perilous and prone to banditry, but with the army occupied with Orias a group has settled in the forest between Al's and Gairbank. And their leader is a woman who has tamed one of the forest's giant spiders!"
The man shook his head in sorrow.
"They took levy from the townsfolk and, since my family could not pay, they instead took my daughters as ransom. I just traded most of my income for flour and yeast, I cannot pay the levy, and against a tamed wild we stand no chance" |

"You are indeed lucky then, Eoghan. For not only are we willing to help, but those bandits have settled along the path we travel, and will most likely try to stop us anyways. We will rescue your daughters from those bandits, I promise you on my name O. Meuric." O. says seriously to the baker, already preparing in his head for the fight that will be ahead. As well as starting a Mental report for the king and his advisers on what they had stopped from happening, just over a days ride from the capital.

Anger takes hold of Lana's heart for a moment on mention of the forest bandits; back home, their community had never dealt with such threats due to both solidarity and seclusion. To think that a group would take advantage of the army's distraction for such vile things!
"As O said," she murmurs, "We'll bring them back to you. Worry not."

"Truly a vile people. To wrest these pour girls from this gentle soul. Verily, they shall see justice!" Morgan thinks quietly thinks to himself. When he speaks, it with great determination rarely seen from such a polite funny man. "Have no fear gentle soul. By our hands, justice will be done. The honor of Morgan Beauchamp, moi, depends on it!"

Maela's expression went dead flat for a moment, even her normal small smile disappearing, though her tone of voice didn't change. She had very little time for bullies and people who preyed on those who couldn't fight back. She seldom compared them unfavorably to a Gabite out loud, but...
Her smile returned when he offered to accompany them on the road for the night. "Of course. Thank you so much for your hospitality."

"Indeed; thank you," Elys echoed; she had little to say that the others hadn't already said, but politeness required that much from her. Their mission was urgent, but they also had a duty to protect the people of the realm. Fortunately, as O. pointed out, these bandits were not far out of their way.
