You awaken, to your surprise and horror, in what may be the world’s worst motel. While there aren’t Spinarak crawling around the room, there’s plenty of litter and other refuse everywhere you look - not that you want to. The room you’re in right now overlooks the street, which somehow appears cleaner than the motel; maybe it’s the lack of zombies in the immediate vicinity? Or maybe you just can’t see well in the dark. Looking out the (broken) window, you can see an intact building to the south, but also the telltale bumping of the zombies you’ve come to loathe. Or loathed all along. Anyway, you can’t tell what the building is right now, although it is far smaller than this crummy motel. As well, to the east of that building is a very large group of zombies, milling about a muddy field. They don’t appear to notice you, and even if they did, they seem stuck in the mire. Back inside the motel, you get the impression there are no zombies in there with you. For one, it might smell bad, but not that bad. You also can’t hear… much of anything, in here. No shuffles, bumps or crashes, not even any skittering or scraping. You feel a little hungry, but that’s rather common nowadays. A quick check of your Pokeballs show that they still have half-full bellies, as well. While it is somewhat dark, you could still make an effective search of the motel, or maybe investigate that other building? If you’re quiet, the zombies in the field shouldn’t even notice you. You are free to search for supplies anywhere, take a closer look at any structures or items, or any other basic actions you can think of. Searching for supplies, you would consult Perception or the relevant stat for the type of item you’re looking for. To find Medical Scrap would be Perception or Medicine Education, for example. You can go just about anywhere, within reason. Direct any questions to the OOC thread, Skype chat, or even a Spoiler at the bottom of your post, as you see fit, and sorry it’s taken so long to get this far. :)

The first thing Saraneth did was turn to meet the eyes of her nocturnal guard. Astarael sat near-motionlessly at the end of the bed. "Did you hear something? Why did I wake up?" The Absol did little more than shift her head, confused by the question. Sara scowled. "Ah, whatever. Let's see what there is to run with in this scatty old place. Ranna, scout!"She releases a pokeball into the air; a slightly smaller pokemon with brilliant golden fur emerges silently. "Ast, stay close. Ranna, stay ahead a little bit and see if you can scent out a kitchen, will you? You know, food?" She pulls herself to her feet as Ranna pads over to the door, sniffing the ground curiously before turning out into the hallway. Ranna's Perception to find food - 25. Stealth to stay quiet while sneaking ahead - 21.
Saraneth using Intuition to find food - 15. Perception to try to find a weapon - 9.
Astarael watching for danger - 13.
EDIT: If I'm only allowed to have one out for the sake of balance, then it'll be Ranna, and Sara will just stay closer to her.

You watch as Ranna leaves, utterly silent as she looks for food in this shoddy motel. You don’t hear her searching, either, but you get the feeling nothing has happened. She’s just being that stealthy. Several minutes later, Ranna daintily pads back in, eager to show you her findings. For Astarael’s part, there was no discernible danger to alert you to. You didn’t find any actual weapons, but you could pick up a chair leg, or something.
Following Ranna (and Astarael following you dutifully), you are led into an apparently “staff only” section. It isn’t like the staff can complain anymore, though… Ranna is trying to direct your attention to a heavy looking door… maybe a pantry? It looks to be locked.
There is no direct line of sight to the outside, from this room, but you can safely assume that anything outside will hear a commotion from within… You get the feeling there is food in this pantry, too. Beyond there being no obvious signs of use (in fact, the floor around the door is covered in a small layer of dust!) it doesn’t feel like anyone has been in there for a while.
Astarael has taken up sentry at the entrance to the room, still alert to any danger. She appears calm right now.

She looks at the door, frustrated. Of course it wouldn't be that easy. "Right. Ranna, switch. Need your help Mos."Moments later, the large and cheerful Mantine floats near to the door, where Ranna had just been. Saraneth scours the room for thick--if not a bit ragged--cloth strips, then approaches her mount's position once more. "Listen up, Mosrael. Wet these for me--right, good. Now, freeze where I tell you... one moment... and.... yes, Dyrim. Come on." The little Golett looks around curiously as soon as he's released. "Now, Dy, as soon as these are frozen, you'll have to break these hinges with solid punches, alright?"Planning and strategy was exactly her forte. First she covers each set of hinges with wet cloths. Mosrael's icy blasts froze the hinges solid, with the wetness of the cloth only furthering the chill. She then covered these with another set of wet cloths--chilled, but not frozen--so that Dyrim's punches would be severely muffled and they'd attract as little attention as possible. Nevertheless, she would do her best to control the Golett's hits, hoping the frozen hinges would break with ease. "Get ready to take the weight of the door and lean it against the wall right afterwards," she instructed Dyrim, who nodded silently. After giving a glance back towards Astarael at the door, she nods to Dyrim, who swings at the hinges with as much precision as possible. Possible applicable rolls:

Astarael continued to watch for any danger, staring intently at… the empty hallway outside. Considering how motionless it was, there probably wasn’t any imminent danger.
Mosrael happily complies, soaking the rags for you, and then chilling them and the hinges they were set on, cooling the room in the process. Applying the second layer of cloth, you can tell that the hinges and door were both affected by the extreme cold.
Dyrim moves into place next, squaring up against the frozen and wet cloths, then punching them soundly. Aside from the obvious thump, you hear a delightful tinkling sound as the hinges shatter. Following your directions, Dyrim was watching for whether the door fell.
While the door looked very heavy, Dyrim was able to carry it without much trouble, propping it very carefully against the wall. That done, he stands by the newly-opened pantry, looking pleased with himself. You don’t think the procedure was silent, but this was about as quiet as you could expect.
The pantry itself looks dark and uninviting, and from where you’re standing, you can’t see the contents, or how deep it is. You can smell food though… perhaps a variety of cured meats? You also realize Astarael has abandoned his post by the hallway, and is now standing between you and the now-opened door.

"Is there anything dangerous in there?" Sara asked Astarael, a bit unnerved by her pokemon's reaction to the door opening. She withdraws Mosrael for the time being, but keeps Dyrus close as she gazes into the pantry behind Asta. If the two dark-seeing pokemon consider it safe, she'll follow inside and gather everything she considers edible. Somehow I'd thought I'd already replied to this. >_< Do I need to make more rolls for the gathering? How does this work?

Dyrim and Astarael both move closer to nearly block off the small cellar, and the reason soon becomes apparent, as a large, dark blue pokemon emerges from the darkness. Through the gloom of the cellar, you can see it’s unbelievable penetrating red eyes; you get the impression, even, that it knew you were in the room even before you opened the door… Hazier because of the dark, you can tell it has dark blue fur, and electric yellow patterns on some extremities. While you can't quite be certain, the creature appears to be extremely hungry. Even as you take all this information in, Astarael looks ready to leap out to protect you, only waiting for your slightest command. No other details of the room are immediately visible, and you don't quite have the luxury of a careful analysis while this beast stares you down. Initiative Counter 1 - Astarael 2 - Feral Pokemon 3 - Dyrim *Your sheet says Dyrim, and you’ve used that spelling before, but if you’d prefer Dyrus just let me know. Saraneth A map of the pantry and room, lucky for you Astrael is very attentive! And beats 15 Speed! As for your questions: 1) You don’t really need to make rolls for gathering all the useful supplies from a room. Just making mention of the fact that you’re taking everything of value works. 2) I’m not sure which part you’re asking about “working”, but for gathering, see above. For fighting… Input your commands, and they’ll be resolved in order of initiative? For trying to gather things while fighting, it would be a little tougher. As in spending actions to gather things and whatnot. But I’ve probably already departed from the meaning of the question…

As soon as she saw the enemy, Saraneth moved to close the main room's door, lingering in the area with Dyrim. Astarael knew her job well enough. "That's our loot in there-- use Bounce! Stay on it and don't let up!"Sara and Dyrim move to H9 and I8. Sara uses Commanders Voice (Brutal & Agility Orders).
Astarael moves to F3 using Bounce: AC 3: GQBclKOt1d20 Damage: 2d10+40 Target is Vulnerable. On 14+, is also Paralyzed. On 16+, is a critical hit. The Feral Pokemon is also Suppressed (Pressure ability). EDIT: Adding critical damage: 2d10+10
If Dyrim is allowed to do anything, he'll use Defense Curl.

Literally leaping into action, Astarael pounces at the hostile Pokemon. With the hit delivered, it looks as though the Luxray was just about ready to faint, but it manages to stay standing. It snarls at Astarael, and as you and Dyrim move to the sides you see it’s fur begin to crackle with electricity before it rams into your Absol. Dyrim takes a moment to curl up, in preparation for the battle. Astarael deals a ton of damage to Luxray, inflicting Massive Damage! But Luxray fails to become paralyzed! Luxray responds with Spark, dealing 37 damage to Astarael and paralyzing the Absol! Dyrim uses Defense Curl, to keep busy.
Initiative is: Luxray Dyrim (15) Astarael (11) Saraneth (8) Your updated map.

"Dyrim, swap in!" she hissed, and immediately the determined little golem lurched towards the foe still in his rolled-up state, as Astarael limped to stand in front of Sara but struggled in doing so. Rolls:
Rollout AC 3: W8ugQMbY1d20 Damage (+10 from Rollout): 1d6+40
EDIT - Just remembered he has hustle, so it's -2 to the above accuracy (so 12) and +10 to the damage from that (so 53 total).
Base overlan 7 + 2 from 2 instances of Agility Training, so he should easily reach the big kitty. Dyrim rushed forwards, slamming full-speed into the giant feline. 1d20·1d6+40

Even as the Luxray charges Astarael for one final attack, Dyrim slams directly into the feline. Astarael uses the opportunity to get away, but it turns out to be unnecessary, with the Luxray in no condition to continue fighting. With the feral Pokemon felled, you are free to dispatch it as you see fit. Now that you have the chance to closely observe the Luxray, you notice that it is holding a Razor Claw! Exploring the now-secure pantry, you can see abundant food sources, even if you ignore everything the Luxray had thrashed. Even someone without any sort of culinary ability could last a long time, with all this food! And that’s only the preserved meats and vegetables, and numerous cans… Roll a d40, and get 10 times the result as Food Scrap, plus a bonus 100. If you choose to… “harvest” the Luxray, roll Survival to determine material gathered. You get the Razor Claw regardless.
Congratulations on defeating your first significant enemy!

"Excellent," she sang, carefully fitting as much of the food as she could within her bag and pockets. The Razor Claw immediately went to Astarael, who could make the most use out of it; but what to do with the Luxray itself? She looked around the shelves, seeing if there was some sort of spare ball that could be used to capture the pokemon if she were to wake it up. The thought of such a beast didn't work with her party, but perhaps it could be a fine bargaining chip, useful in a trade to guarantee her further survival. If there were no balls around, she'd be forced to harvest it to parts, and possibly more meat. The idea didn't sit wonderfully with her, but... tough times called for tough stomachs, right? Survival roll if needed: S0Jn0F8o2d6+1 Also rolling Intuition to see if she knows which parts are edible and/or good for materials (i.e., claws, the zapper-star on its tail, etc.): 4d6 (If they choose to carve it, she'll have Dyrim quietly close the door to the room so the smell doesn't attract anything.) Lastly, she looked for a better weapon than the cooking knife she'd been using to carve and defend herself when necessary. A cleaver, a sword or gun from a survivor who'd been in this place before her, even a long stick that she could turn into a bo or a spear... she got Astarael to help her, promising some healing as soon as possible. Dyrim continued to watch the door and hallway. Sara Perception: 3d6Astarael Perception: 4d6EDIT: Also looking for batteries, any electronics that look like they might work, alcohol, drugs, anything that might be of value to someone, somewhere. Also, experience for beating it? 2d6+1·4d6·3d6·4d6

Setting about exploring the room, keeping a lookout for anything that could conceivably become useful, you take to scouring the shelves first. There really was a lot of preserved food, but nothing at all in the way of tools, let alone Pokeballs. You do find what look like some herbal remedies, though; sealed in jars, for the most part, but probably still effective! When you finished checking the shelves, the next place was that pile of rags the Luxray had evidently called home, and very quickly find an open Pokeball. While you weren’t an expert in them, it looked like the device was still intact, and unless it had wolfed down a smaller Pokemon, it probably belonged to the Luxray! There was nothing else amid the folds of cloth, or at least nothing you or Astarael could see.
Astarael doesn’t stop there, though, and it seems your motivation was effective, as she brings a fierce looking knife back with her from… some dark corner or another, presenting it proudly.
The knife is a one-handed Simple Weapon that grants Wounding Strike. Investigating it doesn’t reveal anything about who owned it, except maybe that they had a thing for dangerous knives. The herbal stuff translates to 4 Patch Cures made from Energy Root (+25 HP, Repulsive) Please roll Perception, for Saraneth and Astarael. Also Dyrim, if they're out.
Experience is being documented, but so that no player gets an obvious advantage, I’ll be withholding it for now. Sorry… Also, question for you, does Sara still want to check the Luxray for useful bodyparts?
Luxray parts: You can remember that Luxray can see far better than people, and even nocturnal Pokemon. While it's teeth and claws might be sharp, they aren't anything special. More interesting is it's star on the end of the tail, which you have a feeling is still charged and dangerous. You don't test it, but something about the Luxray's fur seems to be very resistant to electricity... Maybe it would keep those properties as a cloak, or coat? Of course, it's as meaty as any other similarly-sized Pokemon. And more or less safe to eat, if you really needed to.

Saraneth bit her lip before calling the Luxray into its pokeball and shoving said ball deep into her backpack. Without a doubt she'd manage to bungle the parts if she tried to carve them herself-- maybe she'd be able to find someone else to do that for her, in trade for some of the goods. She belts the knife in the best way she can, keeping it at her waist in an easily-accessible location. Sara Perception: ZFI7HD4g3d6Dyrim Perception: 4d6+1Astarael Perception: 4d6EDIT: Forgot how to roll. ··

Without any trouble, the ball energizes the Luxray and pings pleasantly, followed by the Pokeball giving a readout of its occupant. None of you can see anything else of interest in this cellar, but before you leave, you all feel a telltale tremor for a moment. It passes quickly, and didn’t seem intense enough to have even disturbed any of the jars on the shelves. Congratulations, you… caught(?) a Luxray! You can add it to your collected DEXP, but you needn’t add it to your list of Pokemon, since you’re already carrying 6 actively. Luxray 30, Male, Adamant HP : Fainted, 4 Injuries 14/26/15/8/15/15 Abilities: Rivalry, Celebrate Moves: Bite, Charge, Ice Fang, Roar, Spark, Swagger

Saraneth stores the Luxray with a smile. She'd have to think about whether or not it could work as a replacement for a team member later; perhaps she'd get a good deal off a trade for it, instead. Nevertheless, she swapped Dyrim for Ranna once more and told the ninetales to continue scouting ahead as quietly as possible. This time, they were in search of an exit-- preferably the roof! They're all moving, Ranna ahead and Astarael protecting Sara.

Once again, Ranna pads along silently, diligently searching the motel.
It’s actually almost spooky, perhaps, how quiet Ranna is… you’re quite certain that if she were to sneak up on you, you wouldn’t realize she was there until after she attacked! Observations on your well-trained Ninetales aside, you don’t see anything interesting as you search the building. There are, of course, plenty of exits, but you have yet to find any which reach the roof…
After searching most of the building, Ranna doesn’t appear to have given up, despite having searched most of the building. Down one smaller hallway, you see her indicating a door titled “Restricted - Employees Only”. Perhaps they took their security too tightly as a motel, but the door was locked… no sooner had you discovered this, though, than Ranna gives you a plain looking key… You aren’t sure where (or when she might have found it, but it looks like it could fit the door.
Neither Ranna nor Astarael seem to mind you being near the door, or react much when you tried to open it.

Taking her pokemon's calm mannerisms as a sign that nothing behind the door is going to eat her for lunch, Sara inserts the key and turns, hoping to open the door as quietly as possible... Aaaand this got buried in my notifications... sorry... I'm struggling a bit to stay attached to this character, but I'll do what I can! I'm still interested as to where this could lead.
