Amprex blends in while Ollie gets recalled, Leaving the Deerling looking quite full of itself. That is, until Donovan's Pokéball hits it square on the flank, engulfing it. The ball rattles a few times, before it pings shut. The Pichu look a little daunted by the loss of their aggressive protector-of-sorts, before firing bolts of electricity at where Amprex has blended in. It clearly isn't quite good enough to fully foil the Pichus aim, as both hit - though, one only barely, and he gets shocked despite his innate resistance. Desiree also tries to finally nab her Pokémon, but her throw goes wide. Avani tries her hand at a capture attack, moving into a better position and throwing a ball at the Pichu in the back. It hits, and this time swiftly clicks shut. The lone Pichu left on the battlefield begins frantically nudging at the ball, as soon as it's apparent that its friend isn't going to break out again. Meanwhile, the Bunnelby simply hops off to elsewhere. Amprex uses Blender. Ollie is Recalled. Gotcha! Deerling is caught! Amprex takes 8 damage and an injury from Pichu 1. Amprex takes 7 damage from Pichu 2. Desiree misses with her Pokéball. Gotcha! Pichu is caught!

It was hard to see due to her complexion, but Desiree going slightly red now, mostly out of embarrassment, though she was also getting increasingly angry at herself. She took a moment to calm down. "Right, Amprex, let's flank it," she ordered once she had a hold of herself. Looking ever the picture of calmness, she strode over with confident strides, Amprex already standing next to the Pichu once she got there. She looked down at the Pichu with a smile and said "Hey there," before she promptly tried to boop it with the Pokéball. Capture Attempt AC6 vs 14 (Target Flanked) CR: 24

The Pichu tries to press up against the ball that it s comrade is in, seeming to try valiantly to protect it, but, in the end, it's easily tapped and gets sucked into the ball. It vibrates in Desiree's hands for a few moments, before becoming still and clicking. Yay, you caught a Pichu! Level: 8 Nature: Hardy Gender: Female Moves: Charm, Thunder Shock, Tail Whip Abilities: Cute Charm Note: It has 2 injuries, and is at 15 under max HP. Avani did, too! Level: 8 Nature: Timid Gender: Male Moves: Charm, Thunder Shock, Tail Whip Abilities: Cute Charm Note: It has 2 injuries, and is at 14 under max HP. And Donovan caught a Deerling! Level: 8 Nature: Brave Gender: Male Moves: Camouflage, Tackle, Growl, Sand-Attack Abilities: Seasonal Note: It is Poisoned, and is at 18 under max HP. Gain 30 EXP for your team, at least half of which must be given to the Pokémon that you used in the fight. (This will be the standard experience method used in this game.)
Also, gain one TXP, for your first successful captures! Yay! The professor walks over to where you all are standing, smiling. "Well, it looks like you're all doing very well. Sure, there were some setbacks in that battle, but it's how you adapt to adversity that matters. You all seem to be well on the road to success." She turns to Desiree. "Oh, and you ran off before I could answer. It's fine if you call me Andrea. Or professor, prof, Maple, really, almost anything's fine." She grimaces. "Just not 'Andy', please." Softening, she continues, "So, I see you seem to like grass types, Donovan. Not a bad choice, typically versatile, even if not necessarily as directly powerful as a similar Pokémon of another type. And you're an electric girl, it seems," she says to Desiree. "I can relate to that. Electric types are so useful to have around when you might need an extra quick jolt to a machine... though, you do have to be careful." Turning to Avani, she pauses, before saying, "I can't exactly pin you down with so few data points. But, just catching what takes your fancy is just as valid as anything else. So... do you all want to push on for a bit and let your Pokémon recuperate a little, or get to know them more now? I'm fine with either, but I've known trainers who prefer one over the other."

Desiree bites her lip slightly. I really want to train my Pokemon up a bit, especially my newest partner, but I don't want to push them while they're hurt. She takes a moment to think. "Hmm, I think I'd rather let my Pokemon recuperate a little while we walk," she finally says.

Avani nodded in agreement, smiling a little as she put both of her pokeballs away. "Yeah, I think they should rest as well. I mean, if we stay on the path we should be safe, right?" she asked, turning to the Professor afterwards. "If we really are going to the ruins, is there a safe path to it also? Or should we take a good rest before heading that way?"

"If we're voting on it, I..uh I think we should go to the Temple...and let the Pokemon rest for now. Also, remember Avani, it's in too good of shape to be called ruins" He says with a slight chuckle

"If we're going to go to a temple," the Professor says, shaking her head, "it should probably be the one closer to Kanadario. It's less out of our way. With the one south of here, much as I'd like to go, if we spend time there, we'll be eating up most of the rest of the day, whereas if we push today, we can camp for the night tomorrow in the temple itself. It should be fairly empty, too, given that most people with an interest in temples will be in Kanadario, getting ready for the conference. The path to that one is also shorter. And much less overgrown, being closer to civilization - a major hub, at that."
With that, she continues leading the way down the road - though that isn't hard, given that there's really only one major branch-off, and that's clearly marked with "Kanadario" and "Pasquia" the way you're going, "Kouchi" the way you came from, and "Temple" down the branch.
Eventually, after a quiet day of walking and talking, punctuated by the sounds of nature, the professor leads you into a clearing as it begins to darken. "This looks like a good place to camp," she says, gesturing around. "Which is good, because I'm ready to stop. This thing is heavier than I though it would be. Shouldn't be surprised, though. Lead lining's heavy." She presses a button on her case, and it falls out of her hand, onto the ground, with a heavy thud, belying its size. "I should have spent more time improving the Magnemite-based levitation. That would have been the smart thing to do, but, no..." She rubs her arms, before looking around. "Well, I've got some campfire meals that I can prepare, if you guys want to meet your new partners. They should be rested by now, and you probably want to do that before it gets dark."

Desiree gives Andrea the tiniest bit of a look, but relents quickly. As Donovan had said, if they were going to a temple, they may as well have an authority on them with them. "If that's the case, then lets head for that temple." Upon being told about food, Desiree brightens. "Oh, food, great!" She nods to the statement about the new partners. Desiree sends out Amprex and the yet unnamed Pichu. She turns to the Pichu, and bends down a little. "Hi again! I hope you're feeling better from our little battle? I'm Desiree, your new Trainer." The Pichu looks at Desiree with a brave smile and waves one hand at her. Desiree has to resist the urge to squeal, because dear Arceus, it's cute. "I've thought of a name for you. How do you like being called Prova?" The Pichu makes a squeak of what sounds like wonder. "Glad you like it! Oh! And this is Amprex. You and your friend gave him a good walloping together earlier." Amprex prepped up at this point, having watched the introduction with interest. The little reptile approaches Prova slowly and the Pichu looks up slightly at him with big eyes. Amprex promptly gives the Pichu a lick, which elicits a giggle from Prova. Desiree smiles at the interaction, then grows a little serious. "Alright you two, now that you know each other a bit, I want to ease Prova into my training style a little. I doubt we're going to fight anyone today, but it's still good to get some exercise before you head to bed, especially since we missed out on the bulk of our training today, Amprex." Desiree proceeds to direct the two Pokemon through some basic training exercises for the next hour, keeping them sharp and alert. In addition to that, she teaches Amprex how to expel the energy that he's been focusing into his claws to attack with. Mid way during the training, Prova began glowing white. Desiree's heart had stopped for a moment before she realized what was going on, then she burst into a bright grin. She proceeded to give her new Pikachu a hug, before teaching her how to manage and properly leverage her new strength, and also teaching her the same trick she did Amprex. Once the training was over, Desiree started building up her tent, engaging Avani, Donovan and Andrea in idle conversation while she did so. Of course she also did partake in any food that was offered to her. Desiree applies Focused and XP Training to Amprex and Prova. Amprex gains the Basic Ranged Attacks Poke Edge, Prova gains the Mixed Power Poke Edge and Basic Ranged Attacks Poke Edge.

" Wait...Lead lined? What exactly are you carrying?" Donovan asks the professor with some concern. Whatever her answer, a few minutes later he goes off to the edge of the clearing and releases his new Deerling. As the Seasonal Pokemon stands across from him, still stamping his hooves in defiance, and also still clearly reeling from Rose's poison, Donovan sighs " Sorry about that. Rose tends to get a little trigger happy with his poison, especially when he's getting beat quickly...But I promise I'll get you fixed up soon." He walked over and planted a hand firmly on the Deerlings head, even as it continued to stamp " But see, I'm your trainer now. We're gonna make it across the region together you, me, and Rose. Which means, if you're gonna be with us, you'll need a name." He looks at the bright pink of the Deerlings current coat and nodded " I think you'll be called Aster. They're little pink flowers, name means something like 'Star' if I remember correctly. But it also sounds strong, like you are." He smiled as he released Rose as well. " Alrght you two. Rose already knows how I like to fight, but it's time to teach you Aster. The first rule is simple. If there is something you can do to get an advantage, you do it. Hit em low, hit em from behind, throw dirt in their eyes. Honor is a scam, there's no honor in a fight" The next hour was spent with the two Pokemon listening to a lecture from Donovan, Rose showing some examples to Aster. After the training, Donovan recalled the pair and headed back to the actual camp, ready to eat. Focused and Exp training to both Rose and Aster

Avani had been mostly silent, eventually sitting down after setting up her tent and proceeded to watch the others. She couldn't help but smile, watching each one's different methods and even giving a thumbs up as Desiree's Pichu evolved. Though she herself took a different approach, pulling out a small case from her backpack before releasing the pair of Pokemon together. Ollie took a look around before looking to his new companion, watching as the little Pichu stumbled back in slight fear. "Shh, you're okay... Look, you're friend's right over there," she nods towards the Pikachu, her own Pichu following her gaze to watch his newly evolved friend. "..I think I'll call you Meek, is that okay? You'll be traveling with Ollie and me now," she cooed, opening the case she had retrieved earlier. She spent a good hour as the others were practicing battling to instead groom and take care of her little two, which definitely seemed to calm the little Pichu down... and then begin to glow as he followed in his friend's steps and too became a Pikachu. Applied Focused Training and Exp training to Oleander and Meek

"Oh, uh, don't worry," the professor says, with some nervous laughter, "It's probably not dangerous. Just precautions. I'm carrying around stones and shards that've been treated, and have had their radiation signals altered. I'm hoping - though I haven't had the chance to test - that this'll, when properly focused, facilitate entry into the temples. It's a theory I've been working on, just based on accumulated data over the years. I'm really hoping it works. For one thing, if not, that's essentially a year's worth of work spent on this test alone down the drain..."
"Oh, here, catch," she says, once Donovan releases the Deerling, tossing what turns out to be an Antidote at him. "You should always remember to keep your medical kit stocked up. The wilderness is dangerous in Vesperia, and... well, you probably won't be finding a Center out in the wilds." She proceeds to spend most of her time tending to a fire, and cooking food over it, but seems to at least keep an eye on the group training and grooming. By the time everyone's finished, food seems to be ready.
"Well, those were certainly some... telling lessons. But, I'm sure everyone's hungry. Now, I'm not exactly what you might call a 'chef', but, thankfully, these trail meals are almost impossible to screw up. Thankfully." She looks over the new Pokémon. "It's really tempting to try exposing those Pikachu to the stones... just to see what would happen. But, that'd be a waste. And not fair to them, or you. Ah, anyways, it's nice to see that you seem to be getting to know your partners, and bond with them. Being surrounded by Pokémon is always a joy. Well, uh, except when it's a ravenous pack of hunters..."

Desiree arches an eyebrow at the professor's nervousness. "Well, if you say it's not dangerous..." She trails off a little, clearly putting the possible danger behind her. "So, Andrea, do you subscribe to the theory that the temples are related to the eighteen types?" Desiree pauses, "Not that I would know if there was a theory like that, that's just what I've been thinking ever since I was told there are exactly eighteen temples."
The city girl makes a beeline towards Andrea, where she will patiently wait to be able to partake of the meal she prepared. "I've never had trail meat, so this is exciting! It really feels like we've left society behind to live on the road. Well at least until we get to Kanadario anyway."

Brow furrowing slightly at the topic, Avani recalled her Pokemon. Taking a bowl of food she tilted her head a bit at the notion. "What... what do you even think would happen if they were exposed to experimental stones? I mean, I guess you wouldn't really know but did you have a passing hypothesis?" she questioned, starting to eat. Her eyes turned to Desiree as she spoke, a smile cracking over her lips at the excitement of her new friend just towards trying new food.
"That would be pretty cool, but it would make me more curious on their purpose. Why have a temple for each type? And who even made them?" she added her own questions to the mix, turning her eyes to the sky to watch the fire's smoke rise. "I guess either way it would be pretty cool to sleep in one, even if it isn't ruins it's still probably old and mysterious enough to be equivalent."

Donovan catches the Antidote, quickly releasing Aster and using the medicine on the Deerling. He smiled as it took affect, before turning to the Professor "Normally I would have a Pecha Berry just for circumstances like this. But I sort of forgot to stock up on Berries before leaving...and spent all my money on a Portable Grower so I could keep up on my gardening while on the go....I just forgot seeds"
When Maple mentioned the stones and the Temples, Donovan raised an eyebrow "Are you gonna try it at the Temple we're stopping at?" He sounded a little excited "Is there a chance that we can be some of the first people to enter one?"

"Just the fact that all of them are different, and that there are 18, makes me consider it," she explains to Desiree. "That, and just... well, hunches, I guess. I know that's not the most scientific way of doing things, but sometimes the subconscious can put pieces together that you miss."
"Who knows?" the Professor shrugs at Avani when she asks about stones. "Possibly shifting of types, like I've heard they've managed to pull off at Devon. Possibly something more. Or, uh, possibly something fatal. Not likely, but... possible. It would make me hesitant to try out here, even if I had more."
"Well... I mean..." she hesitates at Donovan's question, seeming to think. "I should probably save it so that I have something to present, no? Just based on ordinary stones... it'll probably be one-use. But... then again, proof that it works would be impressive. As for you all... well, even if it works perfectly, it could be dangerous. ...given that the things can't even be scratched, after all, who knows what might be hidden within? Besides the people who made them, I mean."

A light flashes behind Donovans eyes and he smiles again "I mean, if you made it inside, you...well you could probably get all the funding you needed at this conference. And then you could study the stuff you ACTUALLY want to without worrying about this anymore."
He shrugged "Just an idea. As for the danger. We...we could just run if it got too bad" He added that last bit a little meekly

Her face turned slightly disgruntled at the thought of actually killing her pokemon on accident just with a stone, though her attention was quickly turned to her male companion as he spoke. Avani's eyes lit up almost as much as Donovan's from his words, a grin spreading across her face. "Wouldn't that be AMAZING? One of the first people to explore something that's been practically impenetrable... Just think of what might be in them! Or even if it was empty just the fact that we were able to go inside," she practically squealed in excitement. Though just as soon as it was there her excitement deflated into a soft sigh, "Ah, but I guess it really is a no go... If something happened to those stones and the temple didn't open because of them then the Professor would be in some trouble."

"Well, it's something to think about in the morning," the professor says. "Or when we get there. Though, we should probably sleep now, if we want to make good time tomorrow. I don't think we'll need a watch. This close to the road, predators are rare. They mainly keep to the deeper parts of the wilderness. I've slept alone dozens of times, and I'm still here, after all. In one piece even." She gives a smile, as she prepares for sleeping. ******* After a peaceful night, morning comes bright and early, to the sounds of chirping bird Pokémon. There's still a slight chill in the air, but as soon as the sun peeks over the tops of the trees it begins to warm up. After a light breakfast, and some time for training and grooming, it's time to head off once again. Though you can hear the sounds of some Pokémon as you walk, none of them are that close, and most are quiet enough to be drowned out by conversation. The herd of Deerling has still been the only real congregation of Pokémon that you've seen on your journey, besides brief flits of a bird, or slight rustles in the trees. Apparently you'll have to venture off the safety of the road if you really want to find much. As it approaches lunchtime, the professor notes, "Well, we've been making fairly good time. Do you want to stop for lunch, or just eat something smaller as we walk, and press on for the temple?" She seems to be a bit distracted though, glancing around at the sky. Roll Perception checks if you want.

After waking up, Donovan takes Rose and Aster out into the woods a little ways and continues the training from the night before, with Rose figuring out a trick to sap more strength with his thorny tendrils. As they wrapped up the training and headed back to camp, Donovan felt a little more sure in himself, a bit more ready for the next battle.
As they walk along, Donovan looks up towards the sky a bit too when he notices the Professor doing that, though he quickly returned to looking forward as he answered her question "Umm...I think that I would rather keep pressing on..I really wanna see the Temple..."

Desiree walked with Amprex by her side. The reptile had recovered for the most part and was full of energy from the morning's training, while Prova was still fairly injured from the day before, so Desiree figured he should get to walk with her, as they had often done back in Lumiose City. Having her companion by her side reminded her of good times, and gave her the hope that more good times would follow. "I think Amprex and I are in the mood to walk. I think we'd like to have something small while we do that."
Noticing that Andrea was looking at the sky, Desiree looked at her in turn. "Is something wrong, Andrea?"
