“Ah, so you’ve been planning as well? I’ve been researching all the teachers since I was accepted, but it’s much easier to tail them and observe their behaviors in person. Such things are good indicators as to how they’ll react in a battle. You can usually tell what Pokemon a person will prefer based on the things they put out online.” He says matter-of-factly. Maria wiggles a bit in Greg’s arms as the two boys talk, eager to go back to roaming around.

Blinked with something of a blank expression on his face. Tailing teachers to find out how they fought sounded like a little much for this country bumpkin. "Umm, yeah, I was more, like, more just looking into they types of Pokemon they used so I, you know, didn't accidentally bring a Weedle to a Pidgeot fight." Greg said is sort of a lie. He really hadn't been paying attention to the teachers but as he spoke he realized he probably should be. "But, yeah, I don't think the fight should be, like, to hard or anything. They're just testing us and stuff, you know, not trying to beat us down. Hell, I bet you could beat them day one, if you really tried." Greg finished with a slight giggle, noticing the energetic and exploitative Maria wiggling in his arms as he let her go.

Faron looks away, becoming more serious. “There’s no challenge in rushing in. The battle begins before anyone throws out a Pokeball, and anyone who forgets that is destined to fail. The true challenge is so thoroughly besting your opponent that they’re forced to submit to you.” He looks back at Greg and continues. “A skilled battler knows their opponents and knows their every move. If you can’t do that, you’ll lose as soon as you face anyone with skill.” He stands, bringing his plate back into the kitchen. “Though, I suppose none of that matters if you just want a pet or if you want to play dress-up.”

Greg couldn't help like that last comment may of been directed his way, given that he did kind of just want to pet Pokemon for a living, but he decided to shrug off any possible insults and, for the most part, ignore Faron's more serious tone as Greg stayed relaxed and relatively carefree, even if he was being drawn into the conversation a little more. "I guess that makes sense when, like, you're going into a pre-established fight with set-up rules and such, than you'd want to know every little thing about your opponent. And you always do want to know as much about your important as possible, but, like, you can't plan for every fight, and you can't always know every little thing about your opponent. What if you get jumped in the woods by some new, never before seen Pokemon?" Greg said as he leaned back into his chair, yawning. "I always took skill to be, like, being able to react to your opponent as they act, instead of just relaying on what you know of the opponent." Greg shrugged, not really sure what he himself was talking about as he looked over at the bouncy Maria, smiling. "Or maybe you marry the two ideas to get 'skills,' I don't know. But hey, don't dis those contest people; they take there dress-up very seriously." Greg finished with a giggle, amused at his own half-joke.
