Every name tag was another face, another stack of memories about a person that he had manipulated. After a number of those discoveries, moldering bones and dried webbing strewn about the chamber, the greaser slumped into the maintenance entrance where the giant spider had lurked not all that long ago. He had overdone it. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually he was raw. Filling those moments with busywork and trying to sweat it out wasn't accomplishing anything. The metal wall was cold at his back, and he fished that strange crystal free of his pocket for the first time in over a day.
"Always got to ask yourself if it was worth it Fan. Playing around with something you don't totally get, it's how you learn, but it's how you get burnt too." Cecil snorted softly and shook his head, turning the red stone over in his hands, feeling every little contour and edge. "Leave home a freak and an outcast with a bunch of strangers, going home with a bunch of freaks and outcasts. I know what to do, and where to go, but is it really worth this?" He thumped his head against the wall gently.

Amber stares blankly at Cecil's protest about the question, surprised at his protest given that he was the one who'd started talking to her, but her puzzlement fades when she hears the commotion that is Kat's awakening. She does frown at his abrupt dismissal, raising an eyebrow as he marches out of the room without giving her the vaultdex he'd been asking her to fix. She sighs, figuring this will work itself out, and starts to pull out her kits to work on more things to outfit the team--and freezes in place as Christine starts breaking down. She slowly repacks her gear as Christine and Kat talk, and slips out of the room after Cecil.

"Cecil?" Amber calls as she walks into the room, Ruby skittering behind her as a protective shadow. She pauses at the doorway, staring at him on the ground with the stone in hand, and raises an eyebrow. "...right. You, ah...wanted me to fix your... should we be concerned about you playing with that?"

Christine just clings tightly to Kat, glad for the comfort of another person. "Maybe... maybe for life up here," she says at last. "But... I've just wanted to go back, when all this is done. Return to the way things were, how it was all meant to go. I can't do that anymore... I just don't know what to do." There's a little bit of a warm glow, though, as Kat describes this as a family.
She stays in that position for a little longer, before letting go, a little calmer now. "...In for a penny, in for a pound," she says at last, exhaling, "It's already past the point where it matters. C'mon. Let's... lets go look through those tapes. See if we can find one that'll let me do some good."

Cecil glanced down at the stone in his palms, then back up at Amber with a smirk. "Probably not, too much else to worry about, what's a kook talking to a dead girl?" Sliding the stone back out of sight, he removes his VaultDex and sets it beside himself, rubbing his wrist. "Pull up some floor lil' Sis, little company might do us both some good."

Amber sits down by Cecil, sliding against the wall, and reaches out for the device. "Company is nice," She says with a shrug, pulling the device into her lap to tinker with. She keeps sending sideways glances at the stone, though.
"Is it really a dead girl in there?" She asks hesitantly. "Like...is she trapped or...?"

"It came off of a body in one of the observation rooms. A Pokemon, but it used to be a Chinese woman named Fan. When I first handled it, it spoke, but not since. She was left in there to slowly starve when this place fell apart. It still transmits feelings, and gives off faint ones in return now and then. I'm not really sure how to answer that, asleep I guess? The body definitely died, but it's still aware, even if barely." He scratches the back of his head and gets a little more comfortable.
"Easier to talk to someone when you know they won't judge you." He gave her a sly smile.

The gem flickers lightly, pulsing with gratitude ever so faintly. Even Amber can feel it, a ghost of a whisper of emotion flittering across her brain. After a moment, the gem once again goes dark; leaving the two alone in the hall with each other.
Back with Kat and Christina, Joyce has begun to fret and is apologizing furiously for being the cause of the medic's freakout. "I'm so sorry, I just assumed that you'd know and I went and made you cry and ohhh..." Joyce looksl iek she's on the verge of tears herself, before shaking her head violently. "If... if you want to use that machine, I'll help. I know some stuff about computers, it's how I was able to get down here in the first place." She moves around the table to give Christine a quick hug. "I really am sorry, I just got too excited and didn't think."
With Kat assisting you and digging through the collection of tapes available, you find a selection that appear to have gone mostly unused, making it likely that Sampson hadn't wanted to use them in his little perversion of the Vault experiment. Going over the tapes a small stack eventually are put together that seem to be what Christine is wanting.
Joyce looks a little nervous as she handles the control panel, asking Kat for assistance in putting the assemblage on Christine and then double-checking all the connections to make sure they were tight and clear of debris. "You ready?" she chirps at Christine.

Christine takes a deep breath, looking over all the tapes, and the machine, and the others in the room. "I... I think... just a moment." She turns to Kat, looking the surface girl straight in her mismatched eyes. "If... if something goes wrong. If I lose my mind, or get turned into a Pokémon, or... or if something like Sampson takes me over... I want you to do what has to be done. Don't let me live like that. Please. Just... if I'm no longer me. Especially if I'm going to hurt the rest of you. Promise me that, please." There's a pleading tone to her voice, shot through with a healthy dose of fear.

Amber shivers, drawing back at the feel of something touching her in places that shouldn't be touched. She frowns at the now dark stone. "Then...what's your plan with, ah...her?" She tilts her head. "I wonder if that robotics expert back in town could try to make something for the stone. Use it as a power source, connect the awareness to a body?" She frowns in thought.
"I don't know enough about possible connections between biologic material and robotics to know if it's possible," She says, finally. "Or about...whatever she was, before she died. But if that little aron guy you have is alive, and it's made of steel, maybe someone has done the research."
She relaxes back against the wall, making a mental note to talk to Christine, or maybe someone back in town, about the possibility. Nobody had ever come to investigate Christine's little floating ball thing that triggered an alert, so... She compartmentalizes the thought process as a whole as something to consider later.
"So...what now?" She finally asks after a few quiet moments. "What do we do with this place? Should we make plans to scavenge what we can from it, or are we really going to try and make this into something livable? I'm worried that with the difficulties we had back home with all of the machinery failing, this place might have the same issues, unless we could invest in those," She gestures with one hand in the air, "those floating purifiers. The biological ones."

"Keep her around for now, experiment a bit, ask around. The Pokedex identified the body as a Gardevoir, and that it was a psychic and unidentified typing. Got to chirping like it does about that whole thing. For now, just going to ask some questions and keep it together." Cecil commented.
"As to 116, I could convince a few of the Skrubbing to do the do, and we'd have the purest air in any vault you can imagine. Few more phototrophs that put off goods we can eat or sell, with Christine working the rus out of their system and a better water purifier and this place could be a little home away from home." He nudged a cocoon with his foot. "After more work, anyway. Having a steady supply of food and water is definitely in our best interests."

Kat struggles against the surge of worry that comes with Christine's words. She could do what was asked of her--she knew she could, all it would take was a few minutes of retreating into that funny little corner of her brain where consequences were about as serious as a bit of gum on the sole of her shoe. It might bother her when the deed was done, but... if Christine was that concerned, Kat's mental state of mind was fractured enough that another little crack would hardly make a difference.
She leans forward and kisses the other girl's forehead, "You got it, sister. But don't tip the executioner just yet, aye? Best of luck. I ain't goin' anywhere."

As the machine activates, Christine feels... odd. Not bad odd either. The closest equivilent she can come to is sort of like a warm-oil massage being applied directly to her brain. There is no external emotions. No sudden spikes of memories. There is just some knowledge gained, and some knowledge lost. As the machine cools down, she can feel her newly acquired skills settling in place within her mind.
The group has time to rest before they determine where to go from here.
