Holly falls silent and hugs Rei tightly. She hates that she has to be the one to constantly ruin Rei's day by reminding her of the outside world. If only D'Mara wasn't a threat. If only they hadn't been labeled as 'chosen heroes' or whatever; then they could carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance. Alas, that is not the case. They are the ones chosen for this, like it or not, so end the threat they must. Holly, for one, is more than ready to murder that woman for making Rei so scared all the time.

Rei is silent for a while. She would love to go back, sure. But stepping into the city would be like stepping into the maw of the beast. It’s where D’mara made her base of operations, and now a bunch of recruits, also gone into the wind with her. Celadon has guards. Cerulean is remote and out of the way with a secret base of her own. Saffron was supposed to have the guild but now so many branches are in the wind. And considering what has happened to her in and around the city when the guild was at full power...
Rei just sighs. If she goes there, it’s not gonna be for more than a moment. Not until this is over.
”I’m sorry, I’ll stop talking about it now.”

Rei doesn't really get a response, so she heads upstairs to check on Holly. She finds she's still sleeping, so she nudges her a bit.
"Hey I'm going to go in town and try to see if I can commission some things from some weapon and armor makers. You can come along if you want, or I can let you sleep."

Asking around some, Rei hears about a small, but noteworthy forge-master named 'Smith'. He works with his wife in a surprisingly small smithy near the main gate. One of the people she talks to notes that the man, Smith, is rather...eccentric. When she enters the shop in question several minutes later, a loud, booming voice greets her.
"Hallo there! You are customer, yes? Come in, come in. Welcome to Smith's Smithy!"

"Ah! Yes! Smith's Smithy is best smithy there is! Please, Customer, do feel free to browse. Many weapons we have on display here." True to his word, the walls are adorned with many a weapon. From polearms, to swords, to axes, and more. No armor or shields are on display though. Perhaps Smith's Smithy only deals in weaponry?

"So I'm looking to equip myself with three things. A new broadsword, as big of a shield as I can manage, and some armor pieces. Nothing full body, I still need to move around, but I had some thoughts on some accent pieces. Think you can help me out?"

"Hmm. Wife is excellent weapon-smith, but Smith's Smithy does not deal in armor, am afraid." He seems downcast for just an instant before he is back to his standard, jovial self. "Many a sword available though! You say you wish for shield, so you want one-handed sword, yes? Yes." He appraises Rei with a master's eye. "Ah! Smith believes he has just the sword for you." He goes behind the counter for a moment, somehow disappearing entirely behind an object less than half of his seven-foot frame. Moments later, he returns with a weapon roughly matching Rei's requirement of 'broadsword'. He offers it to Rei, suggesting she give it a few test swings and see if the weight is right. He can appraise her body by eye, but only she can say if something is too heavy or not for her to swing properly.
While Rei is doing that, Smith is watching her carefully; likely appraising her fighting style as well. After all, a proper weapon-smith must be able to identify a customer's strengths and weaknesses by sight in order to best outfit them with the appropriate equipment.

Rei takes a few one handed swings with it, testing it. It’s certainly better than the training blade Sorra gave her a while back. As ‘Smith’ appraises her, she looks back.
”Well I will certainly get something from you today, but do you know of an armorer?”

Smith considers for a moment. "Eh... Smith does know a man, yes. He is very strange though. How you say...is hermit. Yes. That is word. Lives alone on volcano island to the south. What was name again...?" He scratches his head thoughtfully, then snaps as his face lights up. "Ah yes! Volcano island called 'Cinnabar'. Man's name is Nikolai. Nikolai Kroschev. Good friend of Smith's, but hard man to work with. However, he is best armorer in region. Uses magma vents for forging armors. Smith is not sure how, but he is honest man. No lie. Now, I realize that Cinnabar is long ways away. There is excellent armorer here in city as well. Not as good as Smith's friend, but still very good. In-town armorer works for castle. They go to him for all their armor needs; primarily because of location. Also, as I said, Nikolai is hard man to work with. Very exacting. Has little need for currency, so he asks Customer to perform task for him. Task is different every time, but always very difficult. Smith cannot say more, however, as Smith has never needed friend Nikolai's services." He shrugs. "In any case, you look good with that length of blade, so Smith will take you to see Wife now. She will craft weapon for you. Only the best for Smith and Wife's Customers!" He takes back the test weapon from Rei and escorts her out to the back to meet his comparatively tiny wife. Where Smith is a giant of a man, easily six-and-a-half to seven feet tall, his wife is a much more 'normal' five feet and seven inches.

Rei listens intently. So those are two VERY different options. In-town is probably very standard, but making a trek out to a volcano island just for better armor... is the time worth spending? Rei may have to think about it a little. Maybe she'll visit the nearby one and see what the cost is for what she needs. Afterall, if she can't afford it then a favor might be in order.
In the meantime, it's time to comission a blade. Smith takes Rei to his wife, who seems to be the other end of the spectrum. Rei seems to be a bit of the middle human in this group between the giant man and his small wife.
"Hello there. Your husband says you do good work."

Smith's wife greets Rei cheerily before shooting a death glare at her husband; clearly instructing him (silently) to return to the shop. He flinches ever so slightly when fixed with that withering glare, but there seems to be no real malice behind it. Just standard couple shenanigans...or maybe it's an act they put on for the sake of being memorable? Who can say? In any case, she is most assuredly her husband's opposite when dealing with customers. She is soft-spoken yet pays very close attention to detail. Like her husband, she appraises Rei's size and build with just a glance.
"Yes, of course. What sort of weapon were you looking to commission, Miss?"

Rei is then quickly ushered out before she has any chance to argue. So now she has a blade incoming. That leaves armor and a shield. The blade was about half of what she had, but she can save up if need be. Of course doing a favor is something different. For now, she's going to check out the in-city armorer.

The in-city armorer is a fairly nondescript building. Unlike Smith's Smithy, which is simultaneously extravagant and plain (though that may be more due to the personalities of the couple who run it). There are also a lot more than just two people working at Celadon Armory. There are at least half a dozen smiths, plus apprentice smiths who do smaller jobs, and in general it's a pretty busy place. When inquiring about a custom suit of armor, Rei is quoted a price of 6000 crowns for light armor 10000 for heavy armor, and an extra 3000 to either for a 'rush job' where they'll prioritize her order and get ready for her within a week. Without paying for a rush job, they will get to Rei's order when they are not working on the prioritized orders for the bi-yearly city guard requisitions.
