It's been three days since Ravio first awoke in this strange place, and he wakes up on the fourth day with the bright morning sun shining into his eyes. The clearing he's found for his self is small, pressed up against a cliff face that provides some minimal protection from the elements, and would probably make a good base for a shelter. Trees surrounding and within the clearing are fluffy and large, with equally large branches that make sleep difficult, but it's the one place he's found that has enough room for him to really stretch out on the ground without one of the strange animals of this world appearing and getting upset with his presence. The day he arrived, he was so weak he could barely stand, feeling like something had been ripped from his chest. It's taken these past two days before the aches have faded, and this is the first time he's woken up feeling like he has enough energy to actually try...doing /something/ besides figuring out the strange differences in this body of his, and meeting the strange pokemon that has refused to leave his side. The black book rests on the ground beside him when he sits up, though he doesn't recall having placed it there--but this, too, is something he's starting to get used to... Around him, he can hear the soft sounds of the forest--chirps and growls and cries of the animals--no, pokemon--that live here. It's day four, and the weather is clear, and Ravio is ready to explore. [Start us out with a Perception roll, please.]

Near the base of the cliff, in a sleeping bag, lies Ravio, in his standard attire. He's sleeping better than he has these past few days, but it's still a light sleep. He clutches his black book within the bag, like an extremely uncuddlable teddy bear, and a Starly snoozes nearby. Let's see what we see!: |v72Mrqn2d6 2d6

Ravio wakes up to a strange disturbance in the air, and a sense that something is...different. As he starts to rise in the morning, the air is unusually quiet--and looking around, his gaze immediately falls onto a disturbance in the dirt no more than a few meters from his head. There was something there, last night, he's sure of it...

His Starly, nearby, doesn't so much as stop snoring as he begins this early morning examination. If anything, it lets out a louder than usual snore, shifting in its sleep before resettling.3d6

Ravio sits up groggily, and starts to give a yawn, nonchalantly inspecting the landscape... before noticing the disturbance above him. He immediately jumps out of his sleeping bag and away from the spot, clutching the book tightly, and warily examining the soil. The costumed man harshly whispers: "Quigley! Wake up! We have company."
The avian Pokémon gives a yawn and a shake to wake itself a bit, completely oblivious to whatever Rav is worried about.

Whatever Ravio is expecting to happen, several long minutes pass in silence. Whatever caused the digging...there doesn't seem to be anything happening afterwards. The dirt doesn't so much as shift. In the silence, there is a soft cracking noise from a few meters away, though, and in his fearful awareness, he jerks around to see the source! ...a small, tan and pale pink pokemon that looks a lot like a deer, with a yellow flower on the crown of its head. Under its front paw, a branch is splittered, and it seems as spooked to find Ravio and Quigley as Ravio was to find the hole in the ground. Its ears press back against its head and it takes a timid step backwards.

While Ravio peered at his campsite with needless worry, Quigley had quickly lost interest, flown to a nearby perch, and started preening. After the initial shock from the branch, Ravio managed to calm down to his slightly-less-paranoid usual self. " Well, what do we have here?" While Ravio's not particularly familiar with deer, the pink creature isn't exactly threatening. Using a tone of voice mastered while training the truly flighty types, Ravio coaxed the creature forward. " C'mere fella. Ol' Ravio's not hungry enough to eat'cha. I'm normally a bird guy, but you don't look so bad, eh?" Quigley was still occupied. Charm for charmin': AVqbm||L4d6+2 4d6+2

The pink deer flicks its ears, somewhat hesitant, but Ravio's words seem to be enough to relieve at least some of its misgivings. It presses forward into the clearing, seemingly alert to any changes or noises as it glances around rapidly. It stops a few feet away, tilting its head curiously and watching Ravio. It lets out a soft, curious noise that...honestly sounds a bit like the word 'deer', when Ravio considers it.

Ravio continues to use his animal charming voice. " Dear, huh? Honey, I can appreciate forwardness, but we only just met." Ravio generally laughs at his own jokes, but he manages to restrain himself to a chuckle. " I'd offer you something to eat, but I'm a bit short at present. That and I'm not sure what you count as food. Anything in particular you'd care for, darlin'?" Charm for the Charm God: Fleln2Dm4d6+2 4d6+2

The deer seems to be growing more and more comfortable around Ravio. The tension drains slowly from its form and it draws closer. Ravio isn't sure if it understands all of his words, or even many of them. It does sniff at him at the word food, though, and it butts its head against Ravio's chest, flicking its ears. It seems like a friendly enough creature, particularly considering some of the more dangerous looking ones he's seen in the past few days creeping around the edges of the clearing...

" Alright then little guy, while I'd love to be a good host (and I'm not much of a fan of wandering in strange woods), I'm feeling like breakfast and really don't have a better option. You can follow along if you like, or do as you please. Quigley, let's get some food!" The bird, liking this plan of action, comes to perch between the ears on Ravio's hat, and the two wander into the nearby forest. Let's try this foraging thing in that there forest, eh? (We'll say they went into the southern forest, if that's quite alright)

ZEHUtvGj1d20 Ravio and his small crew head to the south to look for edible foods. The deer seems content enough to follow, taking slow steps after him and looking around the wilds with sharp eyes. As he hunts around, Ravio finds a pretty decent amount of various edibles--there's a small, stagnant looking pond with cattails that Ravio is pretty sure can be eaten, some tiny berries that he thinks is the equivalent to this world's blueberries, maybe? And then a gold mine! A decent sized patch of wild onions! Ravio walks away with 780 points worth of food scrap! 1d20

After gathering his food, Ravio travelled back to camp, happily whistling along the way. (Assuming nothing out of the usual happens while doing the above) As he went to place his finds on his sleeping bag, Rav noticed again the nearby hole. Scratching his chin, he muttered to himself and his Pokémon companions, " While I definitely don't appreciate the invasion of privacy, whoever made that hole doesn't seem to be doing much else to bother us. And it's not exactly the strangest thing I've seen here" The purple-suited man glanced towards his bird. " Those talons any good at digging?" Well, he is dressed like a rabbit. Just don't ask how his shoes are helping.

Between Ravio and Quigley, the hole is ripped open and its contents revealed in a few quick minutes. Ravio pulls from the small ditch a medium sized box made of some strange black material. It's smooth and cool to the touch, with silver etchings of interlocking square symbols. Ravio isn't sure what the symbols mean, but does find a hand shaped outline on one side. There don't seem to be any visible latches or openings on the box.

"Well Quigley, it's definitely something. Good job, birdie buddy." Ravio offers up a hand, and the bird gives a high five. Rav then inspects the box. "I think it's pretty safe to say this is a nice find. Now, with this hand thing, based on my previous experience with magical doohickeys, it's pretty obvious what I'm supposed to do, but..." He ponders for a moment. "Eh. Live once in a while, Ravio." He presses his hand to the outline.

Ravio finds that his hand fits perfectly in the center of the the marking, each of his fingertips barely pressing against the circles when the engravings begin to light up, spreading from that center point. If he attempts to pull away, he finds that his hand seems to be stuck to the box, which seems...significantly heavier. It barely budgets if he pulls away. As the engravings finish lighting up, some of the etchings seem to shift on the box and there's a soft *click*. The box begins to...dissolve is perhaps the best word, the materal melting away under Ravio's hand to reveal a small pile of...stuff. There doesn't seem to be any trace of the original box at all, even under the various items that it has been replaced by. The mysterious pile of things contains four neatly tied parchment scrolls, two jars, one large and full of some sort of greenery and one small with some sort of orangeish paste, and a small box with hinges, not unlike what Ravio might expect a ring to be displayed in. Two of the scrolls are tied with a red ribbon, one is tied with a yellow ribbon, and the fourth is significantly smaller and tied only with a piece of string. The larger scrolls seem to have a series of intricate runes on them that make his head hurt to look at, not dissimilar from the etchings that were on the box, in fact. The smaller scroll has symbols much more in line with those he's seen in the black book--or she thinks, anyway, because when he next blinks, he's staring at a simple paragraph written in an almost perfect standard english font of some kind. It doesn't say much, and probably raises more questions than it answers, but seems to speak of using the other scrolls to 'capture' the essence of pokemon. It reads...very much like an instruction guide. The larger jar, when opened, smells strongly of herbs and medicine to the point that Ravio is probably surprised the jar isn't full of the red potions he's come to associate with healing back home. The smaller jar smells...weirdly sour and gross to him, but Quigley peers at it intently, and the deer twists its head from where it settled on the ground a few meters away as the scent permeates the air. The box swings open to reveal a shiny, smooth glowing green stone...it's very warm to the touch, in fact. Ravio has found a hidden cache! But who buried this? How did they do it without him noticing in the night? And, perhaps most importantly....why? He obtains: - 2 Basic Scrolls
- 1 Great Scroll
- 1 Myserious Scroll of Instruction
- 1 Collection Jar
- 600 points of Medicine scrap
- 1 Baby Food
- 1 Revive Stone

Once the box has disappeared, Ravio pulls his hand to his side. " Well, that was... dramatic." He then begins looking at and arranging the items. " Well, let's see. Oooh, a jar! Always useful, and with some medical supplies as a bonus! And this... ugh! This stuff reeks, though it seems you two like it. This rock here is... interesting. Almost certainly magic. Now, for the scrolls." He begins perusing the instructional scroll. " Hm. Well, nice that it turned to Hylian. Says here we can capture a Pokémon's essence." He glances over to the Deerling. " What'd ya say, darlin'? Feel like making our relationship official?" Charm roll, if necessary: HCEKs6As4d6+2 4d6+2

The deer hasn't actually stopped staring at Ravio after the jar was put away, and his words seem to interest it vaguely--or maybe it's just responding to his tone? Either way, it slowly shifts to its feet, wobbling a moment as it rises, and approaches Ravio. It butts its head into his chest--and maybe sniffs a little at the location of the jar, in the process. It seems friendly enough, anyway. To use a capture scroll, break the seal on the ribbon and throw it within a meter of the pokemon you would like to attempt to capture.

" I'll take that as a yes. We'll try one with a red ribbon." Following the small scroll's instructions, Ravio breaks the seal on a Basic Scroll, and throws it near the Deerling. Capture rolls, if necessary:

Ravio throws the scroll! It's...honestly a lot heavier than he was expecting, with the seal snapped, because he tosses it and it soars over the top of the deer's head, handing a few feet away. The deer turns to look at it, tilting its head. When the scroll doesn't seem to do anything, it glances back at Ravio--and then back at the scroll. This continues for a few moments until it takes a step towards the scroll, head low as it approaches, and makes as if to pick it up with it's teeth. Perhaps it would have kindly brought the scroll back to Ravio, or perhaps it would have attempted to nibble on the paper--Ravio will never know, because as it comes close, the scroll flutters on the breeze--and the ribbons seem to move of their own volition, lunging out suddenly and wrapping around the deer's neck! It rears back in surprise, and the rest of the scroll follows, flowing over the deer like water. The scroll didn't look nearly large enough to cover the animal the way it does, blocking it from vision before the paper covered mass starts to shrink, glowing. Ravio can vaguely make out movements of the deerling flailing as the edges of the shape start to blur. As the glowing finally starts to dim, Ravio finds himself looking at what seems to be a small piece of parchment sitting on the ground where the spectacle had occurred in mere seconds. From where it stands, he can make out a picture of the deer on the page, curled up as if asleep.

After throwing the scroll quite ineptly, Ravio sorta stood there in awkward silence. After the fireworks started, he transitioned to stunned silence, until things calmed down. "Hope that wasn't painful." He walks over to the parchment, and picks it up, assuming the paper doesn't respond before he gets the chance.
