The paper, Ravio finds, is alarmingly warm to the touch--and it pulses faintly under his fingers, in a calm rhythm that might be pretty peaceful, if it weren't coming from a flat piece of paper. Ravio feels something vibrate in his robes where he's stored the strange black book--it flutters violently against his skin, and as he pulls it out, it falls open to a seemingly random blank page. As he watches, a simple ink drawing of his deer appears on the page and words begin to appear in neat lines, similar to when he first opened the book and found information on his new bird friend. The parchment seems to have vanished at some point during this process, though he doesn't recall sitting it down. As the last ink letter fills in on the page, Ravio feels his skin begin to burn, like someone pressing a brand against his... Ravio clutches his right arm, as the outline of a flower burns itself in below his wrist, just hidden by his sleeve. He promptly presses his left hand to the location, bringing the creature back into the world. " Deerling, huh? Charming name for a charming creature." Ravio pulls out the sour-smelling substance from within his robes, and proffers it to the little 'mon. The deer takes no time to wrestle it from the man's grasp. The tiny jar breaks in two, and the Deerling starts to lap at the spilled substance. Quigley squawks in dismay as the newcomer takes his food. " Oh, shush, you." Ravio throws a blueberry to the bird, who is moderately placated by the offering. Ravio then turns his attention back to the mammalian Pokémon. " Well, now that I've magically bound you to myself, I suppose I should give you a name, huh?" Ravio puts his hand to his concealed chin in thought. " I think I'll call you Ossia." Ossia continues to lap at the Baby Food, not particularly interested in names. As the newcomer eats, Ravio feels his own belly grumble. " Might as well grab a snack." He wanders to where he stashed his morning's finds. While eating a cattail or two, Ravio's eyes wander to the sky. " Wonder what time it is?" 300 Food Scrap and one Baby Food consumed!
I never seem to remember to use boosting things anyway. Might as well build goodwill, if nothing else.
In other news, any ideas for rolls to determine the time? Or are we just good at eyeballing it?

Looking up at the sky, Ravio can tell it's sometime before noon--or at least, the noon of this world? The sun still hasn't hit the top of the sky, anyway. It's certainly getting there--maybe somewhere between 10-11am?

Ravio finishes his breakfast–really more a brunch–and then turns to his Pokémon. " Well you two. There's plenty of time left in the day. How about we explore this land of ours?" A few minutes later, Ravio has packed his scraps and collection jar into a neat little bundle composed of his sleeping bag. His bow and quiver rest above his robes, with the rest of his valuables neatly tucked away on his person. " Alright you two. Now, be on your best behavior. If we manage to find someone, first impressions are key." The merchant then grabs an arrow from his quiver, and starts walking in a westward direction, using the arrow's head to mark trees along his way. The bird and the deer follow closely behind. He'll head west, following the cliff unless it changes direction. If it does, he'll keep going west, best as he can guess at that direction.
Not sure if you want his path-marking to have any mechanical effect; if not, this is simply how he remembers his way. If so, I can tack on a Survival roll or something here.

Ravio's path leads him directly away from the cliff face. The trees grow thicker, the underbrush spongier, as he travels. It's a bright sunny day, but above him, a barrier of leaves blocks out most of the sun and sky. What few living creatures he glimpses in the distance seem to vanish into the foliage by the time he approaches--which is rather annoying in the case of the small, dusky red thing he'd seen, because honestly, how did something so brightly colored manage to hide so well?
[How far does Ravio going? What is he seeking? Please include a perception check in your next post.]

" Quite the vibrant place, this." His Pokémon poke at a few food-looking bits, but generally keep pace with the purple-clothed man. Ravio, for his part, seems quite happy; he's whistling while he walks, still marking trees as he goes. Ravio continues on until he finds anything particularly interesting, something interesting finds him, or until he's been trekking for two hours. If Overland figures into the walking speed at all, he's actually Overland 7; the sheet doesn't take into account Running Shoes. Requested Perception Roll: jxQlZJIf2d6 2d6

Ravio has been walking for perhaps an hour, delighting in the calm, quiet, peaceful afternoon, when his attention is captured by what sounds like a loud shriek in the distance. It's a very young, feminine shriek, primal and panicked and uncomfortably similar to the noises a trapped animal would make...and nearly as soon as he hears it, it cuts off.

Ravio jumps at the shriek, barely containing a noise of comparable volume. Quigley ducks for the nearest foliage cover, while Ossia seems to fade into the underbrush slightly. In a faint, harsh whisper, Rav asks his Pokémon, " What. Was. That?" Trembling, he drops to the ground, and, with as little noise as he can manage, walks towards the source of the sound, his curiosity slightly outweighing his fear. Quigley and Ossia follow, fluttering and walking closer and quieter than before. Stealth rolls seem appropo, but let me know if something else is needed.

Ravio finds that his companions are fantastic at vanishing into the underbrush, or at least trying to. Green grass, leaves, and brown bark, however, make his bright purple bunny hood and cloak stand out rather glaringly. Still, it doesn't seem like too much of a problem, as nothing seems to target him, and he makes his way reasonably accosted in the direction of the shriek.
Ravio finds himself on the edge of a clearing where the earth is torn up and tossed around. A young girl sits in the center of a dirt pit, trembling as she stares at her hands in her lap. She's young, though Ravio can't guess an exact age, he wouldn't think she could more more than seven or eight years old. Her hair is a fluffy mass of tight blond curls encrusted with dirt, her skin is so pale that milk looks dark in comparison, and her eyes, when she hears his approach and jerks her head to stare at him through the brush, are a clear blue. They're also wide with alarm and fear and...slowly morphing into delight.
Not far from the girl in the dirt, a small dark pokemon with what looks like white bows decorating its body stands between her and what seems to be two beetles of some kind. Or maybe beetle isn't the right word--they're yellow and blue, and look a bit like worms with thick looking stabby points at the end of their tails. They're also covered in as much dirt as the girl, and looking, Ravio can make out gorges in the earth that look a bit like that he'd imagine they'd make if they dug.
Despite having noticed Ravio, the girl in the dirt seems to have dismissed him--and, indeed, the two pokemon that Ravio would guessed caused her original scream? She doesn't move her eyes from the pale skin of her inner arms, nearly glowing in the sunlight.

Ravio, being a shopkeep, has enough tact to avoid making this comment aloud, but boy does he think it. Great. A creepy child. My favorite. He shouts to the girl, "Ah, hello, young miss! Are you alright?"

The young girl looks up at Ravio when he speaks. Her hands tremble as she lightly clasps them and presses them into her lap. She opens her mouth to speak but closes it just as quickly, looking around. She stands on wobbly legs and brushes off the dirt from the elaborate lacy full skirts of her gown. "I..." She trails off. The black pokemon waddles down into the ditch she stands in and the young girl bends down to pick it up, holding it to her chest much like another girl her age would hold a doll.
"...I don't know." She finally gets out. She looks up at Ravio again, expression vaguely lost. Her voice is very high pitched, certainly a child's voice, but her tone is strangely cultured, with an accent that some people would recognize as belonging to the British, but Ravio may not recognize at all. "Do you know where my father is?"
Behind her, the two worm like pokemon begin crawling away into the underbrush.

Ravio ignores the two worms, and walks a foot or so past the tree line, closer to the girl. His Pokémon nervously wait in the forest. "I have a sneaking suspicion that your father might not be here. I, myself, only showed up in this area three days ago. You're the first person I've seen." Ravio nervously glances around the clearing as he asks, "Em, if you don't mind my asking, what exactly were you doing in this dirt pit?"

The girl frowns, tilting her head at Ravio. "That can't be right," She says finally, looking down. She brushes down the front of her skirts, not doing much to help their appearance. Her voice gets very small as she continues, brow furrowing. "Louis wouldn't leave me. He has to be here, somewhere."
Ravio's question makes her blink and she looks around at the ditch she stands in. "I was....hiding." She finally says. She glares at the two worms as they make their way out. "But something still found me."
Her lips move as she mutter something else under her breath, and she stares down at her arms where they peek out of her lacy sleeves. There are a few long moments as emotions cross the young girl's face before she looks up at Ravio and climbs out of the pit. Her expression is sad, and her age alarmingly obvious, as she looks up at him and curtsies. "Will you stay with me until I find my father?"

While the girl thinks, Ravio does the same. What if she wants to join me? She seems to have a good reason for her odd location, but regardless of intention, having a child around probably isn't a recipe for success. But at the same time, she could be useful, and I don't want to leave a child alone in the woods...
Once the girl curtsies, however, the sad display breaks the man's hesitance. Ravio responds to the girl's request with an enthusiastic and somewhat humorous bow. "Certainly! Many hands make light work and all that. Though, if we're going to be working together, probably best to properly introduce ourselves. I'm Ravio, a merchant, at least back home. Out in the woods are my friends, Quigley and Ossia." The two Pokémon poke their heads out of the woods at the sound of their names. "What's yours?"

The girl flashes Ravio a small smile. "My name is Claudia," She says, repeating her curtsy. She hesitates for a moment. "Claudia de Pointe du Lac." She looks down at the black and white pokemon in her other arm, who looks up at Ravio with a dark frown. "And this is..."
She tilts her head. "Well, she hasn't actually given me a name, but I've taken to calling her Madeleine."

Ravio offers the girl some blueberries from his belongings as he starts questioning the child. "Charming creature. Did you wake up with her? Did you wake up here, or nearby? Have you found anything important?" After each question, Ravio waits for a response before asking the next, allowing Claudia time to speak more if she wishes. "I've marked the way back to my camp–well, clearing. Shall we walk there, or...?"

Perception check, please The girl accepts the berries, holding a small handful in her free hand. The pokemon in her arms squirms until she puts one against its lips. "I did...I think, two nights ago, maybe, somewhere close by?...I haven't found much, I'm sorry. And...yes. Anywhere you want to go." She flashes him a smile.

Requested Perception: yQ4_|w3G2d6 (Assuming nothing makes itself known to him, since I doubt he notices anything with that roll:) " Alright then. We'll try to find some more food on our way back. This-away!" Ravio walks back eastward, his companions presumably in tow. Once they've walked for ten minutes or so, he'll start poking around the woods, trying to forage for more food scrap before continuing the trek home. Survival for foraging: 4d6

Ravio finds that he hasn't travelled nearly far enough away from his clearing to struggle with getting back. It's a relatively peaceful walk--and along the way, he even finds fruit tree! It's a tall tree with dark purple berries dangling from its branches and scattered across the ground. They stain his skin as he picks them, and are rather tart, but they seem edible. The girl is perfectly willing to help Ravio gather, her pokemon climbing from her arms for the sake of acquiring its own food. Alarmingly, the small creature seems to have the small berries float down from the tree and directly into its mouth! Ravio finds 960 points of food scrap! This tree is nearly untouched! 8Evzg4h_1d20 1d20

"Excellent! We've plenty of food now, even with your friend's snacking. Homeward bound, I suppose." Ravio leads his companions back to the cliffside clearing.
(Assuming nothing happens along the way:)
"Well, here's where I've spent the past few days. Not exactly homely, but hopefully we can fix that. At the very least, we won't go hungry tonight." Ravio looks to the sky for a time estimate again.
