The climate of Sinnoh varies widely, and most of the region is made of mountainous or hilly areas. Unlike Hoenn, which is located in the south where the climate is warmer, Sinnoh is located on the northern boundaries of the world where the temperature is cooler. It is so cold in the northern part of the region that snow falls constantly. The harsh snow that blows down from the mountain's peaks not only makes the area very cold, but makes the routes in the area perilous to travel on. Cities such as Snowpoint City are completely covered in snow, and Pokémon who live nearby have had to adapt to the climate. Recently, the southern side of the region has also become cooler; climate change is taking a toll. Areas such as Twinleaf Town and Route 201 now have small amounts of snow on the ground.
Cities in Northern Sinnoh, have faced hard times. Despite skilled growers of all kinds (berries/herbs/etc), nothing seems to want to live and produce positive yield. This is where you come in. You are stationed just outside Northern Sinnoh in a small city where the harsh weather hasn't had such an impact.
You work for Pokémon Distribution Incorporated, an organization who sends skilled trainers (along with their pokémon) to traverse the treacherous roads and routes, to reach cities in need of assistance. You could be carrying berries, herbs, specialized clothes, etc. PDI, pays you a base amount for travel expenses ($ depends on destination), along with 2% of what PDI makes on the job.

An interesting concept! I might come up with something for this, though I'm already playing Survival heavy characters in other games, so I'd probably go for a different angle. Question - are you allowing the playtest packets/Pokedex?
Also I think you forgot to include the game's name in the thread title?

You could go researcher to find out why so cold, ace trainer to be an all-around benefit to the team/corp. musician to help the traveling be more palatable. I haven't looked at the new playtest packets. If someone else can give a quick synopsis of the packets I can make a ruling. I am not near computer right now. You will start with a pokedex as well when you join PDI

This actually seems really cool (no pun intended!) I already have a character concept in mind, but it might be a day or two before I can put my character together.
On the subject of the playtest packets, I think that if this is your first time GMing PTU, it might be a good idea to stick with core for now. However, there are some nice things you can allow on a case by case basis (eg. the Medic class, or the new capture roll system).
Besides a Pokedex, do we have any other starting equipment outside of what we purchase with the starting $5000?

Is there any other starting gear we'll be given such as tents or sleeping bags?
Nvm, someone else beat me to it.
Going with a Researcher (Botanist/Climatology) and Survivalist. Working on the sheet now.

May Playtest - Adds the Backpacker class, Gadgeteer research field, changes to the General research field, adds book items and changes herbal medicine. Additionally some small errata related to this.
September Playtest - Adds the Medic class, changes/nerfs damage reduction and the Cheerleader class, changes to poké-edges, capture mechanics as well as some restrictions on TMed/tutored moves.
February Playtest - Changes/nerfs to status conditions, tons of reworked and added Abilities (and as a result a new pokédex)
In my opinion almost all the content is good, but the format leads to annoying double-checking which could be a hassle.
Though consider this a tentative application, any campaign that gives me an excuse to break out the Climatology field is intriguing : )

Alrighty! Here's Ian Wolf. Only the crunchy bits are done for now. Will work on the flavor now.The fluff is complete! Let me know if anything's off, incorrect or if anyone wants to mesh backgrounds at all.

How does the new capture system work. I have looked over the 1.05. Start at 100, apply various modifiers (stuck/hp/bait/etc). Roll a d100, and if the number you roll is below (?) the capture number, you succeed?
I might have it incorrect though.

Might pick something else for a bit more diversity. Maybe a Fire trainer just to turn up the heat : P?
@new Captures - It's basically the same but using a d20 and higher = good. You need to roll 10+(target level/10) to capture them. You get bonuses on your roll for all the various modifiers (like nicer balls or statused enemies).

So, I have looked over some of the playtest stuff.
I will allow the following, as it makes sense to me, and is fairly easy to remember/look up:
New Capture Mechanics (September Playtest): rolling a D20, with a target to exceed or equal, etc.
Tutor Pre-reqs (September Playtest): level pre-reqs for tutor moves/egg moves/inheritance moves
Books (May Playtest): Books from the playtest are allowed. The cost for each book will be $1000. You can take these with you on the road, but I will only allow you to take one book with you at a time. No taking a damn library with you LOL
Herbal Restorative Errata (May Playtest): The way "repulsive medicine" becomes "herbal restoratives"
Pokédex: We will be using the newest/most recent version of the Pokédex. I think that is from the February Playtest.

Update: Starting wealth is 7000 now. Happy spending

Consider me interested. My first inclination is to run an old Survivalist/Water Ace, but looks like we have a few surviavlists already. I'll post a character soon, hopefully by the end of the day.

I'm interested in joining the game, I'll try working out a character tomorrow. Will probably go for a more social type of character, though not sure yet

I'm interested in playing but I'm not sure if you want a new player in the campaign.

new players are fine, as I am new to GMing PTU anyways. We can both learn as we go should I like your concept. Plus, it seems all the people here are all helpful and willing to help us out if/when we need it

Alright, cool. c: I'll start working on something for a character, though I can say that they will probably be focused on combat. Tends to be my thing in these games.

I forgot to include the starting moves. Your pokéemon get a Egg Move, So if you have 2 pokémon, each one gets a single Egg Move.
