Clay bites his lip, trying to follow Piesc's gaze to where Trevenant would have to be. "I think it's heading southeast. Holly's from a swamp a long way in that direction, I think she might be running home."
He tries to channel Trevenant, despite not being able to see it. "I can explain what happened. Will you listen to me? I'm not going to attack you." Though frankly he can understand if it doesn't want to at this point. This might be easier with Gourgeist, it was always a little more social of the two plant ghosts as far as Clay knows. Actually, Gourgeist is the only one of Holly's Pokémon Clay has ever really connected with consistently.

Rei doesn't say anything and just applies the bandages to herself and the two super potions. She gets up, still obviously emotionally rocked.
"Piesc has been tracking Holly's Trevenant and it was headed this way, so that makes sense I guess..."
Rei just keeps going to start to keep back up with Piesc. The whole time she couldn't look Tiki in the face.

Tiki doesn't look back at her either after handing over the supplies. She taps her chin as Tauros follows at Rei's pace, and she talks out loud. "I wonder...I don't think Holly would abandon her pokemon out here. If we keep tabs on it, it will lead us to Holly, or she will come back for it. I have Tootsie watching the edge of the forest, so we'll know if she leaves. First thing, we get that Trevenant. Clay should hopefully be up ahead with Pisec."

As Rei heads forward, she finds herself wanting to just vent out the whole situation.
"I just don't know how whatever is in her head got there, she's been around me constantly... And I don't know why she'd even do it, we talked about... well me doing something like that and she talked me down. And now something has convinced her to do it, probably just because my own stupid mistakes keep making things worse for all of us and she's compensating..."

Tiki is quiet for a moment, but then speaks up. "....Maybe. It could be that, and I wouldn't be surprised if some outside force was messing with her. She's....different from us, and who knows how she interacts with the world....Best you could do is have some faith, and help....*cough*...I know from experience that words don't mean a lot....So, action is what must be done."

Rei has to pause at the 'action' bit.
"I mean I thought that's what I was doing..."
She sighs and just heads on toward Piesc.

By the time everyone reaches the easternmost edge of the woods, it is nearly dark out. Pretty soon, Tootsie and regular birds won't be able to see. Kopi should be able to take over watching for Holly to appear. Surely if Tootsie didn't sound the alarm, then she hasn't emerged yet. With a relatively wide, open road between the two sections of forest, the bird would most definitely have seen it if she tried to slip past that way. According to Piesc, the Trevenant has stopped. Likely it is exhausted from using Invisibility for so long and needs to rest. It is currently using Ingrain to restore its lost health from battle while resting. Perhaps now is a good time to try talking it into leading you to Holly? It must know where she is considering the pace it was setting.

"Trevenant, please, don't run... You know me. I know we were fighting, but it was for a good reason. Something has happened to Holly, and she's not thinking clearly. Something has affected her mind and is making her compelled to do something. If she continues to where we can't help her, we'll lose her. Either to whatever it is taking control of her... or worse. And we can't lose her. We know you are headed this way to find her, we need your help."

"Big Sister is in trouble?" Trevenant's voice sounds almost child-like still, despite being a fully evolved Pokemon. Then again, maybe all Trevenant sound like that. Clay hasn't ever met any others to compare with. "Big Sister didn't say anything to me. All I know is that everyone was angry and fighting, so I had to protect Big Sister. She didn't say words, but I could tell she wanted to run away, so I knew that I had to try and keep everyone else busy so she could do that." Trevenant seems sad. "But I guess I failed a little, as you just ignored me and chased her anyway." She (Trevenant) looks up at Rei. "You are Big Sister's mate, right? So you must want to help her. I don't know where she is right now, but she and other Big Sister (presumably Holly's sister) always said 'if you are in trouble, come home', and 'home' is the Swamp, so she must be going there! I'm very tired from all the fighting still, that Ice Flurry (Shinpuru's Hidden Power) really hurt a lot!"

Rei feels a bit guilty about all of this. Although not too guilty about the not-stopping them thing. That's something for her and Holly to work out as trainer/pokemon later. Rei takes out an Energy Root and applies it to Trevenant to heal it faster.
"I'm sorry we were fighting. Hopefully that heals you quicker. And yes, I am her mate and we were fighting to stop her. Because something bad is in her head, and talking to her made her want to run in the first place. My friends saw her coming this direction so she must be headed home. Once you are rested up, we'll go. Hopefully she's there, and maybe with you knowing you can help us convince her."

Trevenant does feel much better after the Energy Root. It slowly pulls its roots back up after a few more minutes' rest and begins leading the party safely through the woods, taking a shortcut to reach the Swamp faster than going through the town (unless the party really wants to stop in town). Eventually, you reach the edge of the Swamp and Trevenant stops.
"It might be easier and safer if just you come." She says, motioning at Rei. "You are Big Sister's mate, after all. Other Big Sister will be less likely to attack you; though I think she will be more worried about Big Sister Holly. Still, if you really all want to come, I can't stop you. I just think it might be easier this way."

"Look, I know I was mad and... sorta screaming at you both... but I know you both care. But I think I should take Trevenant's advice because if Holly sees us all she might think we are ganging up on her to stop her. I mean, I won't stop if you all want to follow at a safe distance behind but I'm giving you a fair warning."

He rubs the back of his neck. "I'm sorry, I probably made things worse. But all I saw was you two fighting and nobody would tell me what was going on, I was just trying to get everybody to hold still long enough to tell me what was happening. Where was she trying to go before you stopped her, anyway?"

Without waiting for Rei to respond to Clay's question, Trevenant begins heading into the Swamp. Assuming Rei quickly begins following so as not to lose sight of it (though it's possible she even remembers where in the Swamp Holly lived previously), she is led along an easily traversable path through the murk and back to Holly and her Sister's cave. It looks no deeper than Rei remembers seeing last time, but yet nobody seems home. Trevenant just walks right on in and then... vanishes?! into the back wall.

Rei glosses over the 'probably made it worse' part. It's kinda true, and kind of isn't, and bringing it up would just strained their barely holding friendship at this point.
"Yes I will call. I am... hesitant... to get cursed again. As for where she was going, until we started fighting, it was back toward Cerulean... I thought she was just upset and wanted to storm off to the room but she said 'what' she's been hiding and I... I snapped a little bit and I knew I needed to stop her. I felt like if I let her storm off I wouldn't see her again..."
And... Trevenant is going. Rei goes back to following, hoping the other two will at least follow behind. They make it back to the cave, and she pauses as Trevenant enters, but slowly enters and sees Holly's pokemon... vanish? Rei enters, confused, but goes to touch the backwall Trevenant vanished through. Did she just phase through it and forget Rei can't do it?

Nope. Turns out it's an illusory wall. Beyond it is a much larger, homey-er cave. Rei can hear measured, rhythmic chanting coming from further in. Trevenant motions for Rei to remain silent, but follow. Once they reach the true back of the cave, Rei can see a naked Holly in a circle of candles as her sister kneels at her side chanting something. She doesn't seem to acknowledge your arrival, but dips a finger into what Rei can only assume is a paint-like substance (probably made from berries or other plants) and begins painting strange markings onto Holly's body. It's obviously some sort of ritual.
As Rei continues to observe, she sees this dark green smoke seem to rise out of Holly's body as the chanting intensifies. Holly's sister's face scrunches up in concentration, and sweat is visible on her brow as she continues to perform this strange ritual.

As Rei sees this, she has NO idea what's going on. Is Marissa 'cleansing' her of whatever was in her mind? Or... maybe she was the source? I mean she's protective of Holly but would she do something like this? She can't really move for now without revealing herself, can't pull out Piesc to see if he can see what's happening to Holly's aura without the light from her apricorn ball, can't really ask Trevenant what's going on (If she even realized herself)...
Rei kinda just has to for now sit and observe.

The dark green smoke quickly darkens to black and begins pouring out faster than ever as Marissa's ritual cadence increases. Holly shrieks in agony as the smoke is pulled from her (now levitating) body and winds its way out of a narrow 'chimney' in the ceiling. The markings on her body glow brightly as the ritual reaches its crescendo, and suddenly the cave is plunged into darkness with a final word. There is a faint thump as Holly's body likely lands back on the floor, and panting coming from Marissa.

Rei is worried and winces as Holly shouts out in pain. And all that smoke... When did this happen to Holly? As the ritual seems over, Rei motions for Trevenant to go in. Rei's not about to disturb someone as powerful as Marissa right after a stressful situation. She isn't about to get cursed again.
