Rei looks at Holly.
"This is her, Holly, you can stop."
She looks back to the mysterious forest woman again.
"Yeah. Clay is in the fighting branch, which she runs back in Saffron. She gave him the info so we could all go."

"This all has to do with that stupid usurper! For some reason, we were chosen to stop them. Finding Xerneas was something we were told could help."

"It's... pretty urgent." Clay takes a deep breath. "This Usurper is... connected to Yveltal somehow. And Darkrai has been sending us these nightmares about what they do in the future. It's... not good. Something that kills someone and leaves the place behind their eyes empty. We need to stop them. Master Ming-Na says there's some sort of path from your tree to Xerneas's."
He leaves out his usual editorializing about Darkrai's envoy's attitude. After all, she'd pretty much be in the same line of work as this lady, if "Shaymin" is another legendary Pokémon. Could the whole tree be a Pokémon? Like Holly's Trevenant, but massive?

"The 'place behind your eyes' is your brain, smarty pants. Though I assume you actually meant 'soul'. 'The eyes are the window to the soul' and all that nonsense. In any case, Xerneas can only truly help by making it possible for you to survive being in Yveltal's presence. All Legendary Pokemon have powerful Auras that make them nearly impossible to fight. These are not to be confused with the life force of all living beings, which is also called aura. Point being: Standing in Yveltal's presence is quite bad for your health. It has an Aura that saps the life from everything nearby. If this kills you, it steals your soul and also heals/empowers Yveltal." She stops for a minute. "Is any this getting through to you, or am I talking to myself?"

As they get deeper into the legendary talk, Rei's mind wants to check out more. And they haven't even met Xerneas yet, so things aren't looking great. She suppresses her feelings more (it's getting crowded down there) and decides to turn to her again.
"You are using pretty simple terms so... yes? Yveltal has a very powerful aura of death that slowly kills and Xerneas can protect against that."

"Soul, brain, whatever. I'm not good at words. I just know even dead people aren't supposed to look that empty." Clay takes a deep breath. "Look. The Usurper's cronies have killed two of the ones who originally got the dreams. We've been getting these screaming nightmares for more than a month, and if what Darkrai's messenger said is right, we're running out of time."
Another deep breath. It's probably not hard to guess that Clay is trying very hard to keep his temper in check. He's getting kind of tired of being condescended to by the messengers of the gods. "I know you don't like people hanging around your territory. But finding Xerneas isn't just the best lead we have, it's the only one. I've been sitting around living through the Usurper destroying the capital and watching my friends go crazy - Master Ming-Na telling me about you is the first time I've had something I could do about it. And if what she says is right, the only way we're going to find Xerneas is if you help us. I don't expect it... or anybody... to come fight our battles for us. But if it can make it possible for us to take the Usurper down..."
He unslings his new staff from his back slowly and lays it on the ground in front of him, and bows low. It's the closest he can get to going on his knees with his legs bound up by roots. "Please. We need your help. This is the only chance we've got."

She rolls her eyes. "Oh get up already, human. Bowing and scraping won't get you anywhere with me. Might help you against the Usurper, they seem to enjoy being in control, but not here. Respect is good, yes, but debasing yourself isn't helping anything. Point being: you were told correctly when Ming-Na said that there is a 'shortcut' to reach Xerneas' location from here. Normally, such a thing would require some form of task to complete in order to earn Shaymin's blessing, allowing one to traverse this special path. However, since having a new Death run amok is not something anybody wants, She's willing to grant you said blessing in order to speak with Xerneas." She pauses a moment, closing her eyes in concentration. The roots withdraw back into the soil. "Now, whether or not Xerneas will actually help you is another matter altogether. One which I cannot help you with. There is a strong possibility that it will help, considering the massive loss of life that is going to take place if the Usurper has her way, but there's also the possibility that the God of Life will elect to allow this to happen, and merely pick up the pieces afterward. It's not like extinction-level events haven't happened in the past when Death goes on a rampage. This is just the first time a human has actually succeeded in stealing the powers of a God." She sighs.
"Still not sure how that happens..." She mutters under her breath.

At the end of her bit of speech, Rei thinks to herself about the same thing. She hasn't 'fully' dropped the idea of taking that kind of power for herself. Holly seems against it, and it's a ghastly idea to begin with but... It may end up being needed.
Especially with this talk that Xerneas may not help and just may look to cleaning up afterward. If Rei hears that today, what little faith in the above might be out the window. Humans are more or less on their own if the gods won't offer any help more than just saying 'hey you four go stop something more powerful than us' and can't even protect their own in the first place to cause all of this in the first place.
Rei just exhales slowly.
"...Thank you."

Clay has his own feelings about what he might say to Xerneas if it decided to step back and not intervene, but now isn't really the time to say them. He picks up his staff and straightens up, holding it up in a salute for a moment before slinging it back across his back again. "Thank you."
At least this lady is actually helpful, even if she's more than a bit abrasive. That puts her one up on Darkrai's servant as far as he's concerned. He gives her a crooked smile that doesn't have a lot of humor in it. "You didn't seem like the type bowing would help with, but sometimes it's hard to tell. We're a little, uh, distracted with the big picture here and I'm a better judge of Pokémon than people who look like humans." Which is a weird phrase, but Clay tends to count Pokémon as people even before taking into account that every legendary servant he's met so far has strongly implied that they weren't human.
Under his own breath, he mutters, "The troop's never gonna believe the mess I've gotten myself into."
He looks back up at the woman. "So what do we need to do?" After all, even if she's skipping the task to prove their worth, there has to be something more to this shortcut than just standing there.

"Oh, right. The path. Just.. walk to the base of the big tree over there." She motions at the ginormous tree behind her. "The path should reveal itself to you. Oh, small warning before you go: If you aren't used to teleportation, then you're gonna have a bad time." She then moves aside and heads over to the tree herself. She obviously isn't coming with, but perhaps that's how she talks to...whatever Shaymin is?

Tiki found herself rolling her eyes at most of what the lady has to say. Why were gods so fickle? Did the death of the earth not mean anything? What were Xerneas and this Shaymin going to do during this? You would think the chosen saviors of life itself would be guarded, and well informed by the other legends. What was stopping this group from just joining the usurper? They seemed like the winning team in all this...Who knows at this point. It super doesn't seem to matter what happens to the four of them, so just do whatever. Do nothing, let everyone die, convince gods who would rather do nothing do something to help the fated saviors, or join the villain because no seems in a hurry to stop them. Tiki just wanted to sing. She keeps to herself, and walks where she needs to.

Clay grimaces a little at that warning. That doesn't seem like a good sign. But it's a little late to turn back now, so he'll stride over to the tree and look up and down the trunk, searching for the path - he's not sure if he's expecting to see a hollow opening up between the roots or a way up into the branches or what.

So that would be all four of them then about to have a bad time. Rei's never done it and she's sure Clay and Tiki havent. Holly's phasing might be similar enough but she has been forcibly teleported once that Rei knows of. The experience probably wasn't pleasant but at least she knows what to expect.
Rei just walks the path indicated and waits for the others.

Holly cautiously approaches with the others just as a mystical portal of swirling energy materializes in the trunk of the tree. This must be the "path" in question. So who's going first?

Clay is really, really not fond of the idea of whatever it feels like when you teleport for the first time. But he's going to have to go through eventually, and how is Xerneas going to react if he waits for his friends to go in first?
"Here we go. See you guys on the other side." He takes a deep breath, like he was going to dive into cold water, and steps into the doorway in the tree trunk.

Clay feels a lurching sensation in the pit of his stomach, coupled with a few seconds of seeming weightlessness. Then, as suddenly as it started, he finds himself back on solid ground. Roll Focus to prevent emptying the contents of your stomach onto the ground.

Tiki recalls her pokemon, and sighs. She slowly drags her feet towards the portal, and looks through to see where Clay went. Tiki takes a deep breath, holds her arms closely to her chest, shuts her eyes tight, and runs on through.

After the first two go through, Rei looks hesitant. She looks to Holly.
"Go, I'll be right behind you."

Holly just grabs Rei's hand and pulls her through as she darts into the strange portal.
Holly Focus: X0jOFlOL2d6
Immediately on the other side, Holly's stomach churns and she finds the nearest bush to empty her stomach in.
"Not...fun..." she groans.2d6

Rei is pissed again as Holly just 'makes' a decision for her and pulls her through, but the second they make it, Holly is throwing up from the action. Rei rubs her back to make her feel better, putting the thought aside for later.
