"I-I... you... they what." Clay is absolutely dumbfounded for a moment. As he's gotten better with human language, that's been increasingly hard to accomplish, but this news... It's not like this is the first time Clay's confronted the idea of death. Wild Pokémon don't have an easy life, and the constant territorial skirmishes between his troop and the Mankey on the east side of the mountain had the occasional, though rare, fatality. And of course, there was the incident with Fan and the Rattata. That had hurt a lot, as much because the look on its trainer's face was his fault - by proxy at least - as anything else. That was probably the most depressed anyone had seen Clay - his emotional exhaustion over Rei and Tiki's conflict has gone on longer but it hasn't had the sheer gut-punched force that incident did. When something like that is his fault he gets seriously depressed. But when it happens to his friends? Well, then he gets angry. Clay spins on the ball of his foot and drives the opposite heel into the wall, closely followed by both fists, then the knee of the leg he was standing on before he hits the floor in a crouch. Then his lips pull back and he bellows. It's a much deeper noise than the screech he uses when he's trying to be threatening in battle, never mind his normal voice, and it carries disturbingly, but he's not worrying about that right now. Perhaps he should, being in the Steel branch and close to the Dark one, but right now there are more important things than waking up people, several of whom he doesn't like anyway. He lets out a deep, huffing breath and straightens back up, and there's enough fire in his eyes for both of them. "The one that came to me and Tiki didn't mention that part. Someone's going to pay for that." Another deep breath as he tries to focus his mind on something other than anger. "Did she say anything else? Ours just said it had to be us, and that we should look for something called Xerneas. Yveltal's opposite number."Quietly, he adds, "And that Darkrai didn't send the last nightmare. The personal one." He's still not quite sure how to deal with that information - because he still doesn't believe that all three of them having it was a coincidence. He hadn't even been that worried about Ashley getting jealous until the nightmare. The only thing he can think is that someone else was sending it... and if the Usurper can track them down, like she apparently did to Sano and Divini, then if anybody besides Darkrai can send nightmares she'd know who to send them to. He cracks his knuckles. "Guess now I've got someone to use that new staff on. We're gonna find these people and redecorate their - oh. Oh Mankey crap." His anger-flushed face drains of color abruptly. "If Tiki's going off to Celadon alone..."

The off-putting noise throws Rei for a little bit of a loop, but she doesn't really react to it. It wasn't great news to her too. Rei looks away from him, unable to look him in the face anymore.
"She didn't inform me of the last nightmare issue. She just said that we were chosen because we had the most room to grow, originally. That anyone killed by Yveltal's power could be restored upon the Usurper's defeat. That Xernes would protect us from Yveltal's power if we found them. And that a 'Time Traveler' went to a future where we were all there and had won, which is why we were chosen."
Rei, still facing away, folds her arms around herself, as if it was the only thing keeping her from falling to literal pieces.
"I don't even know if that's true anymore. It feels like my future has gotten so much darker and more impossible. I'm quitting things, Clay. This 'Celeste' spend the rest of her time pleading with me to fight when I just can't anymore. Also just saying I'm not forced to do it, but I really 'am', aren't I? But... I can't fight myself anymore. I'll have to leave it up to my pokemon and others. I'm never getting into combat myself again. I'm just going to die foolishly. Or get someone killed relying on me..."
Rei looks off, pained. She's still got the steel branch after this. Upon mention of Tiki, she looks back, although only partially.
"Go tell her this news, Clay. Maybe it will change her mind somehow. If not immediately, maybe it will be the seed. If she doesn't react, then let her go. Let her try to do what she can on her own. Let the information stew a bit. Then go find her yourself in Celedon. I'll just do what I can here."
After that, Rei turns back, and starts making her way to leave.
"I have other business to take care of. Goodbye, Clay."

Clay bites the inside of his cheek. Judging by yesterday, neither arguing with Rei nor trying to get someone to change their mind about quitting things is going to give him a lot of success. "Just... try not to make any decisions you can't take back when you're this upset. What happened to your head, anyway?"
Clay rearranges his plan for the day in his head. Top of the list is obviously finding and warning Tiki. Then, things have probably escalated to the point that he needs to tell Instructor Mason more of the whole story. Secrecy or no secrecy, he wants someone to know what's going on if he gets into serious trouble. Especially someone who can blow holes in rocks with his aura. The problem is that he can't exactly swear Instructor Mason to silence - mostly because he knows Mason will tell the Master of the branch if he thinks he needs to, and he doesn't want to put the instructor in a position where he'll have to break his word to do it. He's just going to have to trust that Instructor Mason has a good idea of who would be safe or not to talk to.
He can think of other people he should tell - Lady Anya and the Poison Branch head, who he doesn't think he's ever met, particularly. How much he can tell who is another question. This is already getting into three can keep a secret if two of them are dead territory. Though Lady Anya already knows most of it. Gah, this is hard. Being able to tell people would make this so much easier... though it would probably cause more problems than it solves. Can he even talk to Kalani about this? She deserves to know something, especially if he's in danger of running afoul of these agents of the Usurper's. Or if she is. He doesn't know whether they'd go after his friends, too... then again, Gertrude could probably make a lot of assassins regret their choices.
Before he gets too wrapped up in his planning, he hurries over to catch Holly before she and Rei leave. In an undertone, he says, "I probably don't need to tell you to take care of her. But don't you wander off, huh? You might be halfway ghost but you're in just as much danger as any of us, so try not to get yourself turned all ghost." Especially since he's pretty sure losing Holly would break Rei even worse than she already is.
He pulls away with a sigh. "I gotta warn Tiki. You guys be careful, okay? I'll see you soon." He flashes something that might qualify as a grin in bad light. His teeth are bared, anyway. "Don't worry. We'll get the sons of Mankeys who did this." Revenge won't bring Divini and Sano back, but focusing on somebody killed my friends means there's something to be done. If he lets that turn into my friends are dead there's not much to do but collapse... like Rei seems to be in the process of doing.
Unless they have anything to add, he'll turn and scurry off in hopes of finding Tiki again.

Holly merely favors Clay with a look that says 'You really felt it needed saying?'. She sticks to Rei like tree sap.

Tiki can be found outside, and behind the guild. She is there with her pokemon as they are going over songs, dances, and other routines. She sees Clay approaching, and she sighs. Hopefully he wasn't too bothered from this morning, or maybe he wanted his stone back. Tiki pulls away towards him. "Hey. What's up?"

"I've already made the decision yesterday. Now I just want it out of the way..."
When her head is brought up, Rei flinches as she recalls her earlier breakdown.
"Don't worry about my head, Clay."
When Clay runs off, Rei finally sighs and heads toward the Steel branch to see if Sorra is there.

Clay doesn't waste much time. "I just saw Rei and Holly. They got a visit this morning, too." He looks around for a moment before lowering his voice. Some of the determination drains out of it in the process, letting through how sad he is. "Theirs said that the Usurper's cronies... killed Sano and Divini."
He takes a deep breath and powers forward. He needs to keep going forward, to keep the urgency and anger between him and the sadness - if he loses momentum he's not sure he can get moving again. "I know you don't wanna get involved. I'm not gonna try to make you. But you're in danger too. So... try not to go somewhere without someone you trust, okay? Keep Star or Justice or Heart and her little army out with you, or something. You're probably the most dangerous out of all of us in a fight, but... even if you're going Celadon, I don't wanna lose you, too."
He shakes his head. "The jerk lady working for Darkrai wants this to be a secret. Rei's Celeste probably does too. But... I'm trying to figure out who we can tell safely. So at least somebody will know if something happens. I'm probably gonna tell Instructor Mason... he can read auras and stuff so he'll probably know if somebody means trouble." He bites on his lip for a moment. That's probably a human gesture more than a Chimchar one. "Just... take care of yourself, okay? If you die I'm gonna kill you."

Tiki is blindsided by this news, and shakes her head. "Wait! WHAT!? WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!? SHUT UP!" Maybe going off on a speech isn't the best when dropping some bombshell like that. Tiki walks away a few feet to try, and process what she just heard. Hell, she just couldn't think at the moment. She was just supposed to believe this all of a sudden? But, she hadn't seen either person in what feels like forever. Tiki didn't want to believe it, but the encounter with that dumb lady earlier kind of solidified that. Tears started running down her cheeks, she hugged herself, and started shaking. Tiki's pokes were all now giving him death stares. Tiki's voice was shaky, and full or anger. "Just....leave....." Tiki was sooo full of hate towards everything right now. She would have a head start at destroying the world before some Usurper did. Rehearsals were done for the day, so she locked herself up in her room again. She needed to get out of her quickly...

"Rei says if we find this Xerneas thing it might be able to bring them... back..." He trails off with a sigh. He wishes he could go comfort Tiki, but he's pretty sure he would find himself attacked and he doesn't want to pick a repeat fight with her right now.
"Just... be careful, okay? I'm gonna rearrange faces over this but I don't want to add you to the list of people I'm getting revenge for." He turns away, shaking his head. "If you need me, you know where to find me."
He'll leave her to... however she's going to cope, and heads off to the Fighting branch next. He's lost track but he's pretty sure this is late for training, and he's going to have a lot of explaining to do.

Rei walks in, still forlorn about the whole thing. At this point she just has her arms hanging down at her sides.
"No... No I am not."
She realizes that Sorra is talking about her bandage.
"Don't... Don't worry about that."
She looks away, unable to keep staring Sorra in the face at this time.
"But if I'm ok or not doesn't matter. I came to regretfully resign from the branch."

Sorra looks at Rei. "Care to explain why? If this is about the Rock Tunnel mission, I thought you did very well in there. If it's not, then would you mind telling me what is going on?"

Rei shifts a bit, not wanting to look at Sorra's gaze.
"It is a bit about Rock Tunnel. But not in how I did but what I realized going through. And the fight where things 'came to blows' as you put it the other day."
She crosses her arms and seems to shrink just a little thinking on it.
"I was barely able to do anything in most of Rock Tunnel. I'm trained to protect and take attacks for others. And that was fine early on. But things have been getting harder and harder as things have been getting stronger. I'm being outpaced. And my fight after we got back was the final awakening. I wasn't able to keep my own pokemon up at all, even after I got myself to my defensive maximum. It's clear to me now that if I continue this... I can't be relied on. Someone maybe will end up hurt... or worse. And that could be me. Adding in everything I've been realizing about my upbringing, and I'm not fighting myself anymore."
She's trembling a little now. This morning she was thinking it would all be ok to ask them. That she could find another branch and be ok. Now that's all gone.
"And if I'm not fighting alongside my pokemon and you all, then I don't feel ok being a part of the Steel Branch. I'd feel ashamed to be here."

Tiki is having a big cry while curled up on her bed. Life just felt like it was piling on pressure after pressure, and Tiki felt like she was going to snap in half....again. Her pokemon are gathered around wondering how to help. Aeon picks up the stone that Clay gave them, and hops up to Tiki. She wanted this stone, so having it would make her happy, right? No such luck, as Tiki keeps crying. He picks it back up in his mouth, but feels a strange sensation coming from it. He, and the stone begin glowing brightly. Tiki looks up as bright lights are going off in her room. Where her shiny Eevee pal once sat, now sits a gorgeous, shining creature with short cream colored fur, blue accents, and bright pink eyes. "...A-Aeon?" The creature's ribbon like parts reach out to Tiki, and envelop her in a hug. Tiki hugs it back, and cries more. Tiki feels a warm, calming essence from the cute critter she is hugging. It does help her calm down somewhat.

"I see. I did wonder about that. It's great that you want to protect everyone, but everyone also has limits, and it appears you've realized yours. At least within the confines of 'protecting everyone'. I would not, however, say that you 'cannot be relied upon'. In fact, I would say quite the opposite! People who are reckless, who don't understand their own limits, cannot grow past those limits, and rarely, if ever, achieve anything significant in their lives. Those who do, on the other hand, discover that with hard work and dedication, those limits can be surpassed. My point being: Just because you don't fight at your Pokemon's side, doesn't make you any less of a member of this Branch." She pauses for a moment to let Rei process this. "I know that when you first joined I said you were expected to fight and train alongside of your Pokemon, but that doesn't mean you have to leave the Branch just because you no longer wish to do so."

"But... I can't surpass those limits. Not with my training. Not anymore. I don't want to."
Rei looks down, a little pained.
"It's always his fault..."
She finally looks up into Sorra's eyes and she still looks heartbroken.
"If I'm not fighting, then what good am I here?"

Sorra frowns. "Not with that attitude you can't! Attitude is everything, Rei. If you believe you can do something, then you will. If you believe you cannot do something, then you never will." Her expression suddenly hardens. "Now you listen to me. I don't care if you want to fight with your Pokemon in battle or not, but I will not stand for this mopey 'I can't do anything!' attitude of yours. Fix it."

That seems to tweak some life into Rei as just saying 'fix it' doesn't really do much except make Rei defensive.
"I 'did' have a better attitude! But it's been beaten out of me! I was set up to fail by my own father fighting an imaginary obsession in his head, something I swore never to do, but it turns out trying to use his training was me justifying the fact I didn't have a childhood! By the constant flow of foes stronger than me wishing to harm me and others, like the poacher I met outside of Cerulean, or the thugs that threatened Anya's daughter! By my own friends, or former friends now I guess, who I've failed over and over again, and now one of them is too busy worried sick while the other one is spirialing into depression because I couldn't help her after I spurned her feelings!"
Rei's fists are clenched so hard they draw blood.
"I've tried so hard with as much 'attitude' as I can muster, and all it's gotten me is pain. Physically, mentally, to others... I don't want to quit. I love being here. But all I'm going to feel is shame if I stay, like I don't deserve it."
Rei shrugs sarcastically (Although the action reveals the bloody palms).
"What does it matter, even? Maybe I can't avoid fighting anyway! Because the final 'whack' in my psyche is gods telling me I'm the last line of defense for the world and telling me that a god of death killed one of my friends!"
Rei huffs after saying that but then covers her mouth in shock, but it's too late. She was too riled up. She probably wasn't supposed to reveal that.

Sorra waits patiently for Rei's rant to be over. Her demeanor is much more reserved now. "I...see. I am truly sorry about your friends, Rei. This is the first I'm hearing about any 'gods' or 'last line of defense'. Does this have something to do with those strange dreams Lady Anya told me you were having?" At Rei's incredulous look, Sorra explains that Anya told her only because Rei was in her Branch, and she felt Sorra ought to know if Rei was having problems. "This is part of the reason I've been so distant from you. I was trying to give you space to work out whatever it was that is eating at you. I see now this may have been a mistake, and if so, I apologize."

Rei just sinks as Anya reveals she knew. Or at least what Anya was told originally. She just nods when she's asked if it's what she meant. And it turns out Rei 'does' have some tears left, as a few stream down.
"How was I expected to get over it? It's just become more demanding and worse, right alongside everything else I'm expected to live through. How do I just 'fix it' when I'm broken beyond repair?"
Rei looks down.
"Or if I was ever whole in the first place..."
