The year is 508 of the Age of Arceus. Celadon Castle town is a prosperous city of 500 citizens, including guards and the Royal Family. Queen Amelia rules fairly from within the Castle walls, and all is well. This month, the Adventurer's Guild celebrates the 2nd anniversary of its official endorsement by the Crown by opening its doors to new members, with the offer of a free Pokemon for those who attend the event, and well-paying jobs for those who sign up. Rumors of unrest in the upper echelons of the Guild are whispered in the shadows of alleyways and dark corners of seedy pubs; and some even suggest that the various Legendary/Mythical Pokemon Cults have infiltrated its ranks. Even these dark whispers aren't enough to cloud your mind, however, whether you believe them or not. Today, you plan to head to Saffron City. To the Adventurer's Guild, in order to obtain a new Pokemon friend. Whatever your chosen path in life, it'd be silly to pass up an opportunity like this.
Hello and welcome back to Raven's House of Horro-er.. House of Horribly Great Games! (Yeah, that's it..) With the rousing success of my current game, "PTU Playtest" or, as I like to call it: "New Age Kanto", I have decided to revive an older game idea of mine. This one is set way back in the Early Middle Ages, a.k.a. "Medieval Times", and will have a heavy magical theme to it. If this doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then please go make your own cup. I only serve magic tea in this here thread.
Still here? Great! Glad to meet ya. Around now you're probably wondering what sort of things you need to know in order to best enjoy this tea, right? Well, I can certainly help you with that. Below is a list of various items that will be a major part of the campaign.
What's that? You're tired of reading my nonsense and want me to give you the method with which to create your characters already? Fine...here are your Creation Details:
You begin as a level 1 Adventurer (aged 13-15) with a single 2 or 3-stage level 10 Underdog Pokemon of the following types: Grass, Water, Fire, Electric, or Normal. These are the easiest to raise/control, and therefore are the only ones offered by the Guild to non-members. If you can justify a different Type of Pokemon in your background, I will likely allow it (provided it isn't of an 'undiscovered' type). You are encouraged to have at least one Trainer Combat class, but it is by no means required. As mentioned in the RP blurb at the top, you will quickly obtain a second (level 5) Pokemon. These *must* be of the Grass/Fire/Water type. You may add them to your sheets during creation, and customize them as you will, but you will not actually have "obtained" them until you have gone through the Adventurer's Guild Anniversary Event.
It is highly recommended that you use the Fancy PTU Sheet Version Dunsparce, as we will be using all of the Playtest rules, including the new Capture Mechanics (modifiers are positive instead of negative - see September 2015 Playtest for full details).
Oh, a couple more things before I let you go: "But Raven, what about B&D? Is that allowed?" Not at creation, no. It has a possibility of being opened up to PCs in mid-late game, but we'll worry about that later. For now, just pretend it doesn't exist. Easier that way.
Um.. I thought I had more, but I guess not. Cheers folks, and enjoy!
Edit: Oh yes! Skype chat. It's way faster than waiting for me to post here on the thread, so go ahead and hop on in. Click me!
Edit 2, Additional Info: Starting Cash! You get 5000 to start with, and a free Simple Weapon. The weapon is optional, but if chosen, you must explain where you got it from, even if it's as simple as "I bought it from a smith". Additional weapons cost 1000 for Simple, and 3000 for Fine. You're adventurers. It's expected for you to have a way to defend yourself. You may "upgrade" your starter weapon for 2500. Due to the expense of "proper" healing, you will also 'heal' up to 2 injuries when you rest for 8 hours or longer (transitioning to next day type stuff).
Edit 3, One last detail: Player count. I am not entirely sure how many players I want, but the most likely range will be 3-4. Enough to get a fair variety of skills/playstyles without overwhelming myself with micro-managing. I do enough of that already.
Edit 4: Some additional things to add: Everyone will receive 3 Apricorn Balls (re-fluffed Basic Poke Balls) after completion of the Anniversary Event. Any more than this must be purchased on your own.
Edit 5: For those players who may be interested, but aren't in the chat yet, your Starter (the level 10 pokemon) may have 1 Egg Move following the September Playtest rules. (At-Will or EOT only. Max DB of 7 (before STAB). If your selected starter has no Egg moves, it may select an appropriate Tutor Move instead. Alternatively, you can also select a stronger move to place on your Inheritance List to gain at level 20 or 30 (but not both). If you chose a Pokemon that has absolutely no Egg or Tutor moves that are appropriate or useful (example: Tynamo), you may instead grant the Egg Move to your secondary Pokemon.
Final Roster of players: Sano Malakyth (UmbralHero), Tiki (oddeyes), Divini Monteblanc (BlackCrescent), and Clay (carnackiArdent). Thanks to all who applied, and I wish you all better luck in your future applications.
In the table below are the submitted Character Sheets.

Still here? Great! Glad to meet ya. Around now you're probably wondering what sort of things you need to know in order to best enjoy this tea, right? Well, I can certainly help you with that. Below is a list of various items that will be a major part of the campaign.
- Dark, Ghost, and Fairy-Type Pokemon are not known. Same goes for most Baby forms. Exceptions include Poochyena, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, and Marill. These Pokemon are common enough to be 'known', but their Dark or Fairy Typing is currently undiscovered.
- Psychic Type Pokemon are known, but most are still undiscovered. Ralts, Abra, and Drowzee lines excepted. Ralts and Drowzee are the more common of the two, due to their interaction with humans.
- Of the well-known cities in Pokemon canon, only the towns of Saffron, Celadon, and Cerulean exist. Celadon Castle Town is the capitol, with Saffron being the next largest, and Cerulean being little more than a well-established village of a few dozen citizens.
- DPDoM is completely thrown out. Technology is not advanced enough yet to use it. The Pokedex is instead the "Poke Tome", which is a WIP catalog of all known Pokemon species that gets updated via magical means as new species are discovered.
- Furthermore, TMs are "Tome Magicks", and are the province of powerful rituals used to infuse Pokemon with the knowledge of more powerful Moves. These are the province only of high-ranking Adventurer's Guild members within their respective fields. These fields being based on an Elemental Type (Fire, Grass, Water, etc).
- On the Adventurer's Guild and traveling on your own: "Adventurers" seeking to explore the world (regardless of their reasons) are encouraged to become a part of the Adventurer's Guild in order to gain access to supplies and easy healing. Non-Guild healing services are available, but are slightly more expensive in order to cover the cost of resources needed.
- Speaking of: Healing is not free. You may seek the services of either an Alchemist (re-fluffed Medic relying on herb-based restorative mixtures) or a Healer (Same deal, but fluffed as magic instead of natural cures) in order to obtain healing for yourself and your Pokemon team. Outside of the Guild, these services cost 150-200 Poké Yen, whereas the Guild-only services cost 50-100. These prices vary depending upon the severity of your wounds (how many Injuries you have).
- Legendary Pokemon: Most are considered to be aides in the creation of our world, but still little more than myths. Rumors of cults dedicated to worshipping these creatures (whether they exist or not) are occasionally heard, but so far they have been harmless and therefore allowed to remain so long as they practice their beliefs outside of the established cities (or at least out of sight).
- Signing up for the Adventurer's Guild is completely free, of course, and comes with some special perks. These include, but are not limited to: Freedom of Movement (your travel is not restricted to the known Routes and Cities), the ability to carry more than 2 Pokemon with you at a time via specially enchanted "Apricorn Balls" (these mechanically operate exactly like regular Poke Balls), and access to special Jobs/Missions that can provide even greater rewards.
