Once, humanity's power was epic, stretching until it covered the entire world. With great power came great peace, and great arrogance. Arceus saw humanity's power grow, and decided to teach the prideful mortals exactly where they stood in the cosmic pecking order. In a single day of wrath, humanity's global empire crumbled. Arceus then returned to the void, confident that he had proven his superiority.
That was over five hundred years ago.
The age of Mad Maxine and the roaming oulaws has long since passed. What's left of humanity has organized itself into large caravans, each convinced it's the last remnant of humanity. Each caravan seeks some place- any place- to settle down and rebuild society.
Which is too bad for humanity, as far as the First Sons are concerned.
Your characters were members of a caravan, heading towards a place where the leaders believed they could settle down. Somehow, the First Sons got wind of this, and in a single night of violence obliterated the caravan. The campaign starts at the next dawn, about ten minutes after the last of the Sons leave. Your characters and their Pokemon are all that's left of about 200 people and Pokemon. Left with whatever you can scavange, you'll need to survive the savannah as best you can. There aren't raiders, but wild carnivorous Pokemon roam in packs, and death by starvation or a hungry Pokemon partner is all too possible.
And, of course, everyone fears an attack by the First Sons....
Essentials:
Players: 3-4
Trainer Level: You start at level 5.
Starters: Any underdog, non pseudo-legendary Pokemon that can exist at level 10. However, some may be less useful than others (see below). Also, do try to pick something that could reasonably be found or expected to live on a savannah- for the sake of good storytelling more than anything else.
Starting Cash/Equipment: Besides the clothes on your back, you are allowed $2000 worth of equipment. This represents what you are able to scavenge from the ruins of the caravan. Any cash not spent on starting equipment is lost forever. All starting Pokeballs are Apricorn Balls.
Banned Material: Nothing from DPDoM. That kind of high technology no longer exists today, and glitches are unheard of.
Controlled Material: TBatD edges and features will be distributed only at my discretion. You will not start out with any.
Special Rules:
You'll start off with 5 days worth of food and water. As a rule, you and your Pokemon can survive just fine for three weeks without food and three days without water before it becomes an issue.
Pokemon dietary habits will be strictly adhered to. This means that low-loyalty, meat-eating Pokemon, if hungry enough, will start to view you as a personburger. Similarly, you may start to believe your own Pokemon look reeeeeeal tasty if you're hungry enough. What's more, bigger Pokemon require more food. A Tyrantrum, for example, needs more food than a Hawlucha.
Some Pokemon have unusual dietary habits (terravores and nullivores, for example.) These will be followed, so bear that in mind when selecting your starter. And while it may seem cheesy to pick a terravore or nullivore for your starter, that's actually good planning on your part.
According to some Pokedex entries, certain Pokemon (like Cacnea and Meditite) can go long periods without food and/or water. That will also be followed, so brush up on your Pokedex knowledge.
Weapon Costs!
-Crude: 250 (this represents very basic weapons, like a club made from a tree branch.)
-Simple: 750 (this represents items that can reasonably function as a weapon, like a kitchen knife, as well as relatively easy-to-make weapons, like simple wooden bows.)
-Fine: 2000 (this represents professionally made weapons; these are usually pre-Arceus weapons and must be found or bought from a professional weaponsmith; even if you are weaponsmith, you'll need proper facilities to get them working again. Also, you can't start with them.)
Recruitment will end on July 17th! Get your characters submitted to me by then! Characters will be picked by July 20th, and the game will begin August 1st! Don't miss it!
FAQs
What system is the game going to use? It's going to use PTU version 1.05.
Will playtests be allowed? No.
Does my character's age/personality/disposition matter? Not that much. Teamwork is essential, so I discourage any bad boys/girls who cannot work with others, but beyond that pretty much anything is allowed.
What about starters? As long as it's an underdog, non-pseudo-legendary that can exist at level 10, you can start with it.This means you could start with a Vivillon or a Charmander. However, since the game (at least to start) takes place on a hot prairie, I would discourage any Pokemon that exist in cold climates or primarily in water.
My character met a mysterious person/is a mysterious foundling/First Sons deserter/generic outsider/newcomer to the caravan/captured from another caravan/etc.! .....no. Normally, I would not discourage such a background; however, the conceit of the game is that your characters (and the caravan as a whole) believed that they were the last humans on the planet. This means that no other humans were found. This belief was violently shattered when the First Sons attacked. So, as far as your characters are concerned, you and the Sons are the only humans left. As the campaign goes on, this view may be changed.
What classes can I use? It would be easier to say what you can't use. You cannot use anything from the Do Porygon Dream of Mareep? supplement. The Rune Master from Game of Throhs and the entirety of The Blessed and the Damned cannot be started with; they may not be handed out, but only at my discretion.
In your own words, can you explain how magic can exist with the remains of technology like computers and stuff? Plubble muck frub a lub dub brum. Chumble spuzz. Hupsty upp.
Uh.... what? One inspiration is the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time. Watch it for a bit to get what I'm going for. If you still don't get it, the general concept is that Arceus' power caused magic to resurface. The weapon classes are needed to protect the caravans from rampaging wild Pokemon.
This game sounds dumb. As do you.
