The Chosen of Yx
"Funny. Why did I sleep on the floor?" That's the first thought that comes into your mind as you open your eyes to find yourself lying on a rocky ground. You quickly realize something's wrong, though, as you wouldn't be sleeping inside a... cave? As you stand up, you look around to find yourself surrounded by stone walls. Two other people are at your side, both wearing a strange white tunic, and suddenly you notice you're also wearing the same thing. Barefooted and with loose hair, the only other thing you wear is a thin, silver necklace with 6 clear crystals hanging. None of those things are yours, of course, and the others seem to think the same way. You quickly explore the grotto, but there's no way out: a perfect dome. But even stranger are the nine stone pedestals bordering the area. Each one of those has the carvings of a weapon and writings in a unknown alphabet, yet all of you can read it clear as day.
The pedestals:
The first pedestal is a perfect block of stone, polished and without any marks. All about it looks orderly, perfect harmony in all its aspects. On its front, you can see the the carvings of an ornate sword pointing down, behind a large wooden shield. The scripts underneath the image read:
"A bulwark for all, the Bastion provides endurance and harmony in war.
Those who wield It may never fall in battle, or allow its allies to do so."
Those who wield It may never fall in battle, or allow its allies to do so."
The second pedestal is rough and scarred, marks of damage everywhere. Wild is the first thing that you think. Dangerously wild, really. On its front, you can see the carvings of an oversized hammer made for crushing things painfully. The scripts underneath the image read:
"The savagery of Juggernaut brings brutality and aggresiveness.
Those who wield It may see every enemy fall to their feet, in fear or blood."
Those who wield It may see every enemy fall to their feet, in fear or blood."
The third pedestal looks to be part of the the cave wall and floor, as if the rock itself had molded the pedestal by command. On its front, you can see the the carvings of a simple staff entwined by ivy. The scripts underneath the image read:
"Chisel requires control of all things, and they obey.
Those who wield It may have things ever go their way, or force them to."
Those who wield It may have things ever go their way, or force them to."
The fourth pedestal is slim, with a circular shape. The stone looks softer, almost malleable, but it doesn't feel that way. On its front, you can see the the carvings of a hilted long spear with an incredibly sharp blade. The scripts underneath the image read:
"Brisk is swift and agile, allowing dexterity and freedom of movement.
Those who wield It may always be where they need, fluttering through enemy lines."
Those who wield It may always be where they need, fluttering through enemy lines."
The fifth pedestal lies just where there's less light in the cave. Even knowing its position, it seems to vanish if you take your eyes away for a second. On its front, you can see the the carvings of two curved daggers crossed together, slightly different blades. The scripts underneath the image read:
"Wisp is one and many, coming from the shadows as needed.
Those who wield It may never be unarmed, with as many weapons as foes."
Those who wield It may never be unarmed, with as many weapons as foes."
The sixth pedestal is the source of the cave's light, as it glows brightly. The light doesn't bother the eyes, though, as if avoiding to harm you. On its front, you can see the the carvings of an orb adorned by a thin chain. The center of the sphere looks brighter than the rest of the pedestal. The scripts underneath the image read:
"No matter which hand takes it, Implement wish nothing but to help.
Those who wield It may ever be of use to those around, a beacon of hope."
Those who wield It may ever be of use to those around, a beacon of hope."
The seventh pedestal is remarkless. Normal stone, average size and no marks other than those caused by time. A simplistic vision of the other pedestals. On its front, you can see the the carvings of a simple bow and a serrated arrow knocked, as if being pulled back. The scripts underneath the image read:
"A single hit is all Headshot ever needs.
Those who wield It may forever have a steady aim and sharp eyes."
Those who wield It may forever have a steady aim and sharp eyes."
The eighth pedestal has an intricate design, simliar to gears. It looks misplaced in the cave, somehow more advanced than the rest. On its front, some of you might recognize the carving of what looks like a type of gun with a long, wide barrel. The scripts underneath the image read:
"When Surge goes loud and bright, destruction is abound.
Those who wield It may sow chaos wherever they go."
Those who wield It may sow chaos wherever they go."
The ninth pedestal is... barely a pedestal, to be honest. A finger-thin column raises from the ground, ending in a circular platform. On its top, a really beautiful carving depicts an elegant wand, with an ornate handle. The scripts underneath the image read:
"Counduit is reknown by Its grace and finesse, a sophisticated weapon.
Those who wield It may never waste a movement, treating warfare as the supreme art."
Those who wield It may never waste a movement, treating warfare as the supreme art."
You look at your companions, all appearing as confused as you. That's when one of them notices two of the crystals around your neck have a faint glow, glimmering in different colors. They gleam stronger as you approach the pedestals, and as they do, a depression can be seen in the stone as well. It has the same shape as the crystals, almost like they were made to fit...
Hi! The name is Ely, and I'll be GM'ing my first forum game. It's a game of PTU 1.05 (at least until the next version comes out), and I'm looking for 3 players for it. All information you need can be found on the spoilers below, but if you have any questions, please, ask away!
The Crunch
This game deals with three people from different dimensions who are somehow summoned to this world. They appear in the cave from the introduction, and must find their own way in this reality. Along the way, they will find they were Chosen to represent one side of a war that rages through millenia, determining the fates of their own realities and all others. They have one year to travel this new land and gather Favors for their side, so they are better armed for the fateful Closure day.
To help them out, each of them recieves one of the Nine Instruments of War, mythical weapons that are capable of attuning to pokémon and grant their wielders fantastic abilities. On the other hand, there are also 3 Chosen of the Other Side, who will also be carrying one of such weapons and trying to gather Favors as well.
May the most prepared side win.
Mechanical
The game will feature mostly Full Contact battles, but there's no need to build around combat classes, as the weapons will grant you fighting prowess anyway. It will also have healthy doses of exploration, social situations and mystery (at least that's the plan).
There are no pokéballs on the game, which uses an alternate system for capture. That's very important because, at least for the first levels, characters will be restricted about the pokémon they can capture. Clearly speaking, type restricted. That's not for mechanical reasons, though. It's a plot related feature that will become clearer once the game starts (or maybe you can figure it out sooner).
Also of note is that humans will be almost absent from the game, except for a few. It does not mean characters cannot be socially focused, however, as those will have their opportunity to shine as well.
There will be a great number of legendaries involved, so be advised.
Finally, I will explain a little about the weapons so you can plan your character with that in mind:
All Nine Instruments of War have the ability to attune to your pokémon to grant special capacities to its wielder. They do in different forms, however.
First, none of those weapons will demand high Combat skill for their moves. The skill is still useful for other things (maneuvers, features and skill checks, for example), but you can make your character as incompetent in it as you want.
Second, the weapons have no fixed physical shape, instead adapting to the pokémon attuned to them. They have a function, though, and that doesn't change. So Juggernaut, for example, can have the shape of a war maul, as well as a double-edged axe or an oversized sword. In all shapes, the function is still the same: being a very powerful, yet difficult to wield weapon. To explain those functions, I will define each weapon by a series of tags. Note this is a very simplified version of each individual weapon, but it can give you an idea on the direction your character should take.

Character Basics
- Your character starts at level 1. Yeah, I know it's a bit lame , but low level fits the theme.
- Your character's age should be preferably between 14 and 21, of either gender.
- Your character must be GOOD. He/she can be anti-social, an outcast, really blunt, egocentric, rude, whatever... As long as he/she is inherently good. Like, in the heart.
- You start with no items. Feel free to make classes that need those to fully work, though. They will be provided soon. (e.g. Researcher, Fashionista, Chef)
Allowed Content
- The Arcane Training Feature is banned (because it's unnecessary).
- No Type Sync at beginning.
- Due to the lack of Pokéballs, Capture Specialist is banned at first. I have reworked it for the setting, but I don't want to expose the capture methods as of now. It can be selected later, though.
- No supernatural classes are allowed at beginning. This means both Supernatural classes from Core, as well as Elementalists and Rune Master from GoT.
- Futuristic classes are also banned, mostly because you won't find materials for them in the setting (Engineer, Jailbreaker, Upgrader and Gadgeteer Fields)
- Also, nothing from Blessed and the Damned.
- Yes, that means Arcanist is allowed, but you need to justify it on your background. How did it work on your reality? Also notice that it is slightly homebrewed for the setting (check the House Rules section).
- We'll be using all playtests (May and September 2015, February 2016), including the updated pokédex.
Pokémon
- You will begin with a starter, level 10, and it can be any pokémon with the Underdog tag that evolves at least once.
- It can have an Inheritance List of up to 3 moves (to be gained at levels 20, 30 and 40), as well as 1 Egg move from the start. All those moves must obey the September Playtest, though.
- Skill backgrounds are allowed, in a 1:1 ratio (i.e. for each skill you increase, one should be lowered.)
- Pseudo-legendaries are ok, but consider how late they evolve.
- Dual-typed pokémon are preferred because they're greatly beneficial to the characters, even if only after they evolve (like Chimchar, for example, who becomes Fire/Fighting when evolve).
- You will not begin with your starter, though. You'll get it after the beginning of the game, so don't include it in your backstory.
House Rules
- The Arcanist Feature is changed:Arcanist
[Class] [+Special Attack] [Weapon]
Prerequisites:Arcane TrainingNovice Occult Education
At-Will – Extended Action
Target:An Arcane WeaponAny weapon
Effect: You create a Soul Bond with the target Weapon. You may make a Soul Bond with only one weapon at a time. If you create a new Soul Bond, previously Soul Bound weapons lose the Bond. Soul Bound Weapons gain the following benefits:
• Increase the Damage Base and Effect Range of Struggle Attacks andArcane WeaponMoves granted by the weapon made with your Soul Bonded Weapon by +1 for each Occult Education Rank you have above Novice, up to a maximum of +3 at Master Rank.• As a Shift Action, you may beckon your Soul Bonded Weapon to your hands if it is within 10 meters. If it is being held by someone else who does not want to let go of the weapon, make an Occult vs Athletics Opposed Check. If you win, they their lose grip on your Weapon and it flies to your hand as normal. - We'll be using the alternate rule on Ground Attacks x Flying Types from page 496 of Core.
Application
To apply a character, you'll oviously need a character sheet. That can be a google docs sheet like this one or a wikidots sheet. There are three things of importance besides all your fancy stats.
First, your background. Since this game will not take place into your reality, I need you to tell me what your reality is like. This wil be the first criteria for selection: make an interesting alternate pokémon dimension. There are two things that must be included in that reality:
- Pokémon exist, in some form. This means all (or some) pokémon are (or were) real creatures. They can be laboratory engineered animals, prehistoric beings, whatever. Pokémon are something your character could be familiar with.
- For the last 15 years, your reality is getting increasingly worse. How you take it is up to you, but things are really bad now. Not just for your character, but for the whole world he/she lives in.
Second, your personality. Since characters will share the same goals, which are exclusive to this war they are summoned to fight, individual objectives might be harder to fulfill. So instead of trying to think of a good purpose for your character to achieve in the game, think of a personality that will make him/her remarkable. Being Nice Guy A or Pokémon Fanatic 3 is not enough. This is the second criteria for being picked.
None of those things need to be large or excessively refined. I'm no writer myself, so I wouldn't require anyone to be one. Just a basic idea on why your character would be an interesting companion is enough.
Lots of things to read, but I hope you reached this far. I'll be expecting applications until June 25th, 23:59 p.m. EDT, with results being posted the following day.
You can join the skype chat to ask further question or discuss characters with others. Here's the link.
Thanks for the interest and sorry for the wall of text =)
