A massive dome of some unrecognized crystaline stone was discovered 100 miles off the coast of Ise Bay in the early 1800's. In the year 1863, a typhoon finally smashed down the walls of the dome, revealing an island with a beuatiful ecosystem that was obscenely rich in precious stones, including minerals as of yet undiscovered by mankind. The island was quickly claimed as part of Japan and named Han Kage Port City, and dozens made their fortune by capitalizing on the resources of the island. In the year 2018 the island is little more than a tourist trap, the gem rush dying down despite the crystals proving essential to factory production (one form is good for conducting electricity particularly well, another an amazing insulator). It's also your hometown. Surprisingly, it wasn't even the stones that were bringing in tourism, but several sensationalized documentaries made in the 1970's about an urban legend specific to the island: Manic Depressive Prescience Syndrome. Allegedly individuals were observed on the island displaying temporary episodes of mania and depression combined with foreknowledge so uncanny that it bordered on clairvoyance. While MDPS has been largely written off by the psychological community as nothing more than a myth, roughly half of the island believes it to be a real phenomenon. All you guys know is that your first day as freshmen at Edogawa High School is tomorrow, and you just can't sleep.
The Secret Pitch *spoilers*
Alright, so for anyone familiar with Persona you know there's going to be some sort of supernatural element to the world nobody knows about that you guys will have to explore, with some sort of power that grows through character development, and it'll probably end up being dark as all get out. For those of you who aren't drawn in just by the hook of "Pokemon Tabletop United Persona" Let's get a little bit spoilery and a lot more detailed
In this campaign, you and your fellow players will be entering a psychedelic dream state of unknown origin called "The Signal", and fight monsters that look suspiciously like Pokemon with summoned entities that are definitely Pokemon, at first for survival, but later for reasons that are entirely your own, but probably specifically for fun and profit. This campaign will likely feature sex, drugs, rock and roll, and other nice things
Classmates
By some strange twist of luck, you are already familiar with some of the people you'll be sharing a homeroom with (note, last name first, first name last)
Shishimura Akihiro
Perhaps not the most intuitive of the bunch, Akihiro was generally considered the most athletic kid in his class back in middle school, but after getting disabled from the waist down, he doesn’t even watch sports on TV. Most of the class keeps their distance because they aren’t quite sure what to say to him. Now he mostly studies and plays MMOs.
Uematsu Aoi
Another introvert, Aoi gets caught falling asleep in class almost daily, but when he’s awake, he's got an uncanny intuition. Despite never studying he has near perfect grades. He’s been diagnosed with depression several times but no therapy or medication will do anything. He’s usually the first person to get interviewed by some camera crew going on about MDPS. Nobody knows exactly what he does outside of school.
Tamura Koneko
This girl loves cats. A lot. She tried to wear cat ears to school every day back in middle school. By the start of 8th grade the principal got tired of seeing her every day, so he made an exception in the dress code for her. She is eternally strong willed and friendly. When she’s not at school she works at the local animal shelter, where she at least has the good sense to take the cat ears off for a little bit
Takeda Yoshi
Maruyama Utako
Maruyama is a multitalented singer/songwriter. She’s so confident in her work that she doesn’t believe that she really needs to pay attention to her academics. She believes so strongly in her talents that she sees herself as above most of her classmates. To her credit she doesn’t belittle her peers for daring to act as her equal, she just chuckles under her breath. Way she sees it, she doesn’t need or have friends, she just has fans.
Yamato Varuna
Varuna has always been a bit of a joke among your classmates, not that she ever minded. She believes in everything: Aliens, Gods, Magic, Vampires, you name it. She even goes as far as to publish her own monthly magazine Believe it or Don't!. She gets written off by his classmates for her "informative articles" but her composition teachers usually have nothing but nice things to say about her poetry, which she used to include in a segment of her magazine as a vanity project, but stopped after the watermelon incident.
Meguro Hideki
Former student body president at your old school. Got kicked out of the position for getting drunk on power. Is really bossy. Has a keen eye for organization though, and groups with him in it tend to turn in amazing projects. Tries to hide it because he feels like it will make him seem weak (and as such, an ineffective leader), but actually reads books to young children at one of local orphanages.
On the Subject of Pokemon
Pokemon in this universe is basically still the same mega franchise in this campaign as it is IRL, except with some of the legendary Pokemon actually predating the franchise in this universe's version of Shinto mythology. This mean that yeah, it's entirely possible that your character knows all about Pokemon.
OoC Information
I will be accepting up to four players and the deadline for sending in applications will be May 26th, 11:30 PM Central Daylight Time
There will be a chat for people interested in applying to discuss their characters and ask questions and stuff here
I would appreciate one or two posts per day, with the understanding that I have very chaotic weekends, and may not be able to post on Saturdays or Sundays
Crunch Requirements
Trainer Level 2, Pokemon level 10, 5k yen to start with (PYen shall now be referred to as just yen). Your pokemon must be an underdog, preferably with one evolution, but having two works just fine, and may have one inheritance move in accordance with the September Playtest Packets. Also note that your character will not be starting with a pokemon.
This being a modern day setting, you can't really *buy* weapons, but things like baseball bats and other things that could be seen as crude weapons will cost 500 yen.
We will be going by the homebrew rules found here. Bear in mind that this is a living document, and these rules may see edits based on player input or as "bugs" come up as the game goes on.
Character Fluff Requirements
Persona is a series already heavily based on interpersonal relations, which means fluff will need to be plentiful, however, I've got a few bullet points that should help round that out. Also, please put all of these details either in a spoiler for your application post, or in separate google document linked to your character sheet
First off, I'll need your character's relationship with at least three NPCs other than their parents. You may make up new classmates but one of these NPCs has to be one of the ten classmates described above.
Second off, I need a justification of your "pokemon". This thing is supposed to be a representation of your psyche, so what does that say about your character? It doesn't have to be as obvious as "my character is quick to anger and loves punching things, so her persona is a mankey" or "My character has a horrible self image problem, so his persona is a feebas" but there should be some tangible logic in your justification
Third, I'd like an explanation of your characters hobbies and interests, they've been living on this island city for fourteen years, what do they do in their free time and where do they do it? Were they involved with any clubs in middle school? Did they want to be? I'd like to encourage you guys to make up landmarks, and with your permission, I may end up including those areas in the setting even if you don't make the cut.
Fourth, an absolute requirement is that your character must have a "fight" theme song, and a resting theme song. You don't need to justify these choices but it would help if they felt fitting for your character.
Fifth, I'll need a default outfit for your character when they're in The Signal
As an aside, the Persona series uses a tarot card taxonomy to classify personas, social links, and shadows. While you will not be required to work out a Tarot for your character, you are welcome to use the Persona Tarots for inspirations and share what you decide on if you're feeling it. the link to the wiki can be found here.

Takeda Yoshi
Was Akihiro’s bestie and teammate in just about any sport they played, but ever since the accident, Akihiro just won’t give him the time of day. He’s thrown himself into footbol practice, but there have been rumors of him trying out for the boxing club. Takeda was always one of the more popular people in your school, even as a second fiddle to the golden boy Shishimura. But for the premiere first year athlete, the guy doesn’t seem to be having as much fun with it. He gets stressed out easily when he makes mistakes, and takes his workout regimen seriously. Still, he’s a hardworking, amiable guy, that’s more than happy to lend a hand.
