A few hours later...
JoJo has recovered from her fight with the Beedrill, and may return to the Viridian Forest for the results of the Bug Catching Contest. All other participants are messaged as soon as she does so.
Once all participants are gathered, each Pokemon is judged based on the criteria posted at the beginning of the contest.
Final Results:
1st Place - Bug Catcher Dan, with a Scyther! (He received the maximum possible score of 210.)
2nd Place - Jax the Juggler, who caught a Beautifly! (Scored 190)
3rd Place - JoJo Joyce, with a Volbeat! (Scored 186)
All other contestants are thanked for their participation, and receive the consolation berries.
Vincent receives an ErElJZYZ1d12 Oran berry.1d12

"Yes, let's look for her," Vincent agreed with Jax.
Vincent looked for JoJo amongst the participants after the Judging was done. Once he found her, he smiled. "Hello again. I'm glad you're ok," he said. "I met another contestant. This is Jax." Vincent gestured towards the masked juggler.

Jax makes a little rapid-fire clapping motion with his hands, pleased that he came in second.
He awaits his Everstone and random Berry.
"Hello, Miss Joyce. Nasty business with that Beedrill earlier. Do you feel like taking it on again with help this time?"
Jax also takes this opportunity to offer Beautifly up for trade with anyone who would be interested in leaving with the competition's runner-up Pokémon.

"Well," he says as he begins to juggle again. "You two did well in the competition. Would you like to head back into the forest for some more captures, without the time limit this time, and our items available to us?"

After asking around a bit, one of the other contest competitors offers to trade her newly hatched Zangoose for your Beautifly. She explains that she can get another Zangoose egg anytime she wants, as her family are breeders.
The Zangoose will be level 1, Female, Hasty natured, with the Inheritance Move Thunderbolt, and the ability Toxic Boost.

Jax literally jumps at the opportunity to make that trade. Zangoose is a Pokémon that he has wanted for quite some time. He trades Beautifly for the newly hatched Cat Ferret Pokémon.

Vincent nodded at Jax' question. "I'd like another chance to find a Scyther," he said, something of a determined gleam in his eyes. "Actually let me see if the contest winner would be willing to trade the Scyther for a Pinsir." I've already grown somewhat attached to her, but I'm sure she hasn't to me. She doesn't even know my name for her yet. Trading her would be fine, Vincent tells himself.

Vincent, a little disappointed that Dan wasn't willing to trade, turns to JoJo. "Hmm, I'm fairly interested in finding a Scyther, but I feel like I would be unlikely to actually find one, thereby wasting my time," he says thoughtfully. He stops for a moment realizing that this is the first time he is making his thoughts immediately vocal. Well, now that I've started, I may as continue. "But on the other hand, I do really want a Scyther," he says more to himself than to anyone else. He sighs. "I think I'm going to go back into the forest and look for one. If you're really adamant about not going back in, JoJo, do you want to meet us at the Poke Center later?"

"Well alright," Vincent says only a little surprised. He should have expected that. "Let me just heal up my Pokemon." He takes Machiavelli's Pokeball from his belt and calls out the little reptile, who growls a little at the unfamiliar faces. "These are Jax and JoJo, Machiavelli," Vincent introduces his... companions as he pulls a bottle of enriched water from his pack. He uncapps the bottle and pours a little water over the wounds and then puts the bottle on the floor for Machiavelli to drink. The reptile almost swallows the bottle as it puts the whole thing in its mouth and guzzles the liquid down, before flicking its head to the side, throwing away the empty bottle.
Vincent picks up the empty bottle and throws it into a nearby bin. "Ok, let's go," he says, smiling a little. I'm going to get that Scyther even if I - well, not die, but I'm getting that Scyther for sure.

Seeing your group headed back into the forest, Bug Catcher Dan cautions that really strong Bug Types come out at night (2 hours from now), and that they will see humans as easy prey. He then wishes you luck as he heads back to town.

As the Pumpkaboo is added to the team, the last of the visible light disappears behind the massive trees that make up the Viridian Forest. It is not quite "dark" outside, but as far as the nocturnal denizens of the forest are concerned (judging by the appearance of a Ghost Type), it is dark enough to start waking up and finding food. You doubt it will be safe to be so deep in the forest for much longer.

Well," he says, putting Abra's ball away and picking up the Mankey, "should we extirpate ourselves from this forest? Abra is sending me warning messages - I think he's been doing it for a while now - that there is danger growing around us."

Vincent eyes the trees surrounding the group. "Yes, let's head back," he agrees.
It's really too bad I didn't find what I was looking for. Perhaps it just isn't meant to be.
Vincent shrugged. There will always be tomorrow. We will need to head through Viridian Forest in order to reach Pewter City anyway. He wondered whether Jax would be willing to join them for that. So far he'd seemed very reliable and his company was pleasant.

The trip back to the Pokemon Center in Viridian is relatively uneventful. Despite the popularity of the Bug-Catching Contest, there are still plenty of rooms available at the Center. (You may move on to the next day whenever you're ready.)
