A Kakuna? Do I really want one of these? Hmm, I suppose I could use something to fall back on. This will do as well as anything."Vel, hit it with Rage," Vincent said calmly. Despite the neutrality in his voice though, there was a certain gleam in his eyes that spoke of a lust for battle. He was restraining himself though because that Kakuna was hardly going to put up much of a fight. It might make a nice punching bag. But Vincent wasn't the type to attack Pokemon for no reason and so he pulled out a Pokeball, waiting until Vel had used Rage. It was hard to flub hard enough to miss a moving target, but Vincent was prepared to throw anyway. Move: Rage Type: Normal Frequency: At-Will AC: 2 vs Fx4oSMmk1d20 Damage: 1d6+23 Class: Physical Range: Melee, 1 Target, Spirit Surge Effect: The user becomes Enraged. Until the end of the user’s next turn, if the user is Enraged, the user gains +1 Attack Combat Stage whenever they are damaged by an Damaging Move or Attack.

(You now have a Wild Encounters thread, Vincent.)
Congratulations! Kakuna was caught!

Vincent smiles at a successful capture. It might not be the best Pokemon, but this was his first capture. Vincent almost wanted to keep this Pokemon and forget about finding others, but the idea of meeting a Scyther was too tempting. With a shrug, Vincent picked up the Pokeball.
"Nice work, Vel. Let's keep moving," he told his partner and continued stealthily moving deeper into the forest in search of a rare Pokemon.
(Should I roll Stealth again, or do I keep the previous rolls?)

(Each time you enter battle, you roll a new Stealth to continue sneaking. Also, Kakuna is level 7. You may roll for nature/gender or take the randomized nature/gender of Quiet/Male in case you plan to keep it. Its only Ability is Shed Skin.)
Riding on the high of his first successful capture, Vincent continues his search for rare Bug Types. A short while later, he comes across yet another cocoon Pokemon. This one hangs by a strand of silk from a tree branch. The Pokedex calls it "Silcoon".
(If you wish to battle it, head on over to the Wild Encounters thread. Otherwise, you may roll to search again.)

Vincent shook his head as he encountered yet another cocoon Pokemon. While he wouldn't have recognized the Pokemon without the help of the Pokedex, Vincent doubted that it was very rare. He chose to leave the Pokemon be and continue searching while attempting to stay out of sight, Machiavelli following him just as stealthily. Vincent's Stealth: clmZTWQ44d6

Vincent was still a little buzzed from the encounter with the Pinsir. That had been fun. Really fun. He hadn't enjoyed seeing Machiavelli get hurt, but that sort of thing just happened in battles right? He best get used to it.
I can't keep calling...him? her? - he checks his Pokedex - Her, by her species' name. Let me think... She has a powerful voice, that roar was pretty fearsome. I think I'll go with Hortensia, after an ancient orator. Well anyway, that's me done with finding Pokemon I think. I doubt Vel could take on anymore without getting knocked out and I don't have any revives left.
Lost in thought, Vincent picked up the now filled Sport Ball and attached it to his belt. Then he began slowly making his way back to the registration point. As he walked, he, for the first time, truly admired the forest, its massive trees and wild life. It was so different from the forest he'd lived next to, which was almost completely devoid of Pokemon. The sight of Vidirian Forest filled Vincent with a strange energy. He somehow felt more alive.

Back at the registration desk, there are several people milling around, chatting. Some of them are even bragging about what they caught for the contest. Seems like most of the trainers are satisfied with what they've caught for the contest, and there are only a handful of participants left to wait on.

After several minutes, the Contest Manager announces that the Bug Catching Contest for this month is officially over. As all the trainers gather around for the Judging, a head count indicates that one person is missing. A Ranger is dispatched to go and collect the missing trainer, as they may simply have lost track of the time limit.
A short while later, An unconscious JoJo is carried out of the woods by the Ranger, and immediately seen to by EMTs. Seems she was stung multiple times by a Beedrill...

When Jax first showed up for the competition (he was one of the few who arrived before everyone else) he drew a few looks from the crowd and his fellow competitors, and he drew them again when everyone returned at the competition's end. Naturally, it didn't bother him - he's quite used to his mask and garish clothing grabbing people's notice - but he's still a little bit glad now that something else has everyone's attention. He's just disappointed that it had to be under such circumstances.
As he stands in the back of the crowd, Jax consults his Pokédex to review the data acquired during the competition. He turns 'Sharing' on and allows his dex to sync up with everyone else in the crowd who owns one and also has theirs set to share data. Out of all those who are present here, he only finds two other 'dexes that are within 50ft and have their settings set to automatically share unlocked entries - a dark-clad fellow in the crowd and the poor girl being carried away by the EMTs.
Their Trainer Cards say that their names are Vincent Roth and Jolyne Joyce. Vincent caught a Kakuna, and Jolyne encountered a Beedrill. That means that there's probably a Weedle encounter still to be had in this forest, as well as the Wurmple that remains locked. Jax grins under the mask. They'll be happy once they get a chance to look at their 'dexes and see that, between he and Vincent, nearly the whole Wurmple line's entries were unlocked today.
Jax would absolutely love to have a chance at that Beedrill, too, since it wasn't actually captured. But he gets control of himself and takes his mind away from the selfish for a moment and does his best to focus on the poor girl who got hurt today. He moves over to a position near Vincent.
"That's a darn shame. Do you know her?" he asks, doing his best to speak quietly but still loud enough to remain intelligible through the muffling layer of the mask on his face.

Vincent watched with slightly wide eyes as JoJo was carried away by the EMTs. He hadn't expected this turn of events.
Is this girl going to be a liability if we travel together?
Vincent shook away the rather mean thoughts in his head. The girl had seemed nice. It just meant that he would have to put in a little more effort and try to protect JoJo as well as himself. It was still better than setting out on his own.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when a masked teen spoke up addressing him.
"Not very well, but we were planning on travelling together, or at least we were talking about it," Vincent said, watching the other young man a little bemusedly. Why is he wearing a mask? Vincent wondered. "I'm Vincent," he said, holding out a hand to shake and prompting the masked man to introduce himself.

"I know, Mr. Roth," the masked man says, putting forth his own gloved hand to return the handshake. "It's a pleasure. You can call me Jax. You'll find my info already on your Pokédex."
The mask is emotionless, and the mesh across the inside of the eyeholes doesn't even let Vincent see emotion in Jax's eyes, but the voice sounds pleasant and well-meaning enough.
"I sure would like to stick around long enough to see that Miss Joyce is okay," Jax says, beginning to absent-mindedly juggle a few of the Sport Balls he hasn't had to turn in yet, "and if she's willing to show me back to the spot where she met that Beedrill."

Vincent suppressed the urge to get out his Pokedex and confirm Jax' words. That would be a rude thing to do during a conversation.
And here I thought he was only concerned. I suppose a little opportunism never hurt anyone. Well it's probably hurt someone's feelings, but not mine so I'm fine with that.
Vincent eyed the Jax' juggling skills with a minutely raised eyebrow. The young man wasn't easy to figure out through his expressions, since those were hidden by his mask, which was a little... not creepy, but strange. He did give away enough information through his actions and speech though.
"Well you're welcome to join me in waiting for her. I'm sure she would be happy to show you where she met the Beedrill if she remembers." She seemed kind enough to do so at least, Vincent figured.

"Wonderful," Jax replies. "I'll be around then, Mr. Roth. Good luck in the competition."
Jax then adds a few more balls to the juggling now that he's paying attention to it and then turns and slowly walks away to await the contest judging.

After a minute or two, the contest Judge announces the postponement of the final judging until the last trainer is in a condition to present the Pokemon that she captured.
Thankfully for those with little patience, or other plans for the day, you are not required to hang around for however long that takes. You will receive a message via your Pokedex when it is time to return for the Judging. Before you leave, however, you are asked to return any Sport Balls that you have remaining; at which time the rest of your equipment that was held for the competition will be returned to you.

Vincent wasn't sure what to think about the delay. On one hand, it was obviously done on JoJo's behalf, which was nice. On the other hand it meant more waiting. Well, Vincent had been ready to wait anyway. A little more doesn't hurt, he supposed.
But maybe I could use this chance to look for a Scyther? I could heal up Vel and then head out back into the forest. The only issue is how much time that would take. I suppose a battle isn't that long and I'll get notified anyhow. But... it's probably best to wait until the Judging is done. I should be there when JoJo is back. It's what any potential teammate would do, right?

Jax asks an official if it would be okay if he kept the broken Sport Ball parts that he has. Then he heads over to Vincent.
"Should we find out where they took your acquaintance and pay her a visit?"

The official will allow you to keep the broken pieces if you wish. Most folks just throw them away as it is.
