"Nah, something entirely new," he says. "Nobody's set foot there before. Probe says it's breathable, with no immediately detectable life, but, there's no light. So, uh, keep that light, probably."
"I don't know why being a little quirky is a problem," the captain shrugs. "Everyone who's here for long gets a little weird. Especially after a few solo expeditions. As long as you're not getting yourself or others hurt or anything? It's probably fine."

"That is a relief.". He visibly sagged in his chair. "Falling Star and Hero both glow in the dark, but I would have to carry Hero. Falling Star is... Difficult. He put a dent in your nice building.". The boy admitted sheepishly.
"I suppose if there is no life my own light should be enough. You wanted to leave in the morning? And I am to keep secretive about it?"

"Eh, buildings can be replaced." he waves off the worries. "Other places have had worse."
"And... probably best to not talk about it, yes," Armstrong admits. "Trainees aren't exactly supposed to be allowed into realms that haven't been vetted. But, I think it'll be fine. You'll be with me, and it doesn't seem all too bad."

"Understood sir, my lips are sealed. Thank you for the premiere balls. I will see that they are well used. I'm ah... I didn't pay very much attention about graduating from a trainee to something more. I was talking to Oops! At the time. We become full Explorators when we finish the curriculum and do an exam?"

"Yep," Armstrong nods. "Should be only another month or two, mostly just some evaluations of how you do in different contained environments, and a few psych evaluations. I don't think anyone screwed up badly enough today to warrant re-training there. And, eh, don't worry about remembering everything administrative. You can always look it up. It's much more important to remember things that might save your life!"
"Anyways, if you've got no more questions, just... go off and do whatever for the rest of the exam. I imagine you might want to talk to people after two days of only having an Operator."

"My handler is wonderful company, but I suppose some time with my peers couldn't hurt either.". Collecting his things he offered the Captain a wave as he moved back into the commons area to socialize and relax until the exercise was declared over. It was hard to imagine their trials were nearly over.

Thankfully the bickering Trainees don't seem to be around anywhere, so the common room is mostly quiet. It's mostly empty at this hour, really, given dinner and sleeping and all that. Faith and Shane are both there in their own little corners, with the former reading a book on a couch, and the latter at a table carefully building a house of cards.

Parish has a seat paralell to Faith. "Studying up on anything particularly interesting?". It occurs to him he won't be very welcome at the in building sleeping quarters, shedding light the way he is. The couch will have to do, and he can lose the gills for morning.
He doesn't really get what Shane is doing, a balancing exercise maybe? A structure made of triangles wasn't likely to be very sturdy. He let Oops out of his ball and laid back on the couch, gently running his fingers along the glass bauble.

"No, not really," Faith says, looking up at him. "It's just a fantasy novel. One of the ones from before the realm discovery decided to have everyone just make their stories take place in another realm so they could have a character from an existing one. It's really annoying to have to filter all of that out."
She shields her eyes. "...you know if you concentrate, you can stop glowing, right? Took a bit for me to get the hang of, too. Wish they taught you that, instead of expecting you to figure out everything you could do on your own."

"Oh, that would have been really helpful two days ago. Sorry.". Parish did as she suggested. It was sort of like removing an adaptation. Not even that difficult, he wondered why he hadn't tried it sooner. The markings on his skin remained.
"It would be pretty hard to write genuine fantasy anymore after every possibility suddenly came onto the scene as a reality. I like stories of eutopias before their fall. Golden ages with like... entertainment and luxury. They are such novel concepts."

"It just seems like everyone's hopping on the hot new trend, even to the detriment of the stories," she grumbles. "It can just be a world that stands on its own..."
"...anyways. You don't want to hear about my grousing, I'm sure. What can I do for you?"

"I was just curious about what you were up to, since you asked about my dowsing and crystal craft earlier. It seemed polite to ask about your interests. Besides, learning about what people don't like is a way to understand what they do. That and Shannon looks like he is concentrating really hard on building a flimsy structure."

"Shane," Faith gently corrects. "And they're busy building a house of cards. It's an activity that you can do that tests your dexterity and patience. Because one wrong move, or even breathing wrong, and it can all... come crashing down."
As if on cue, the cards wobble and fly apart, with only a few lone triangles at the bottom. There's not really a crash, but there is a lot of muttered cursing from Shane, as he starts to organise the cards again out of the scattered mess.

"Shane.". Parish corrected himself sheepishly, considering the state of things. Faith wasn't unkind to him the way Mason was, but she was very binary in her interests in things. "I'll just leave you both to your privacy. If you wanted company, you would be engaging in activities that warranted it. I'll just head to bed. Goodnight Faith. Goodnight Shane."
He'd see himself off to the sleeping quarters. What a mixed bag the last day had been. Plenty of foot in mouth, but he had met whatever criterion had been set for a boom and more. Being weird was encouraged? Rewarded even? It didn't make a whole lot of sense.

"Goodnight, Parish," Faith says, before she goes back to reading.
"Huh?" Shame asks, confused, looking over upon hearing their name. "Oh, uh, goodnight."
The night passes without incident, and soon comes the morning. Food, maybe a bit of training and getting to know his new Pokémon better, and then heading to meet the Captain.

Training was... Something. Falling Star didn't want to listen. Oops wanted to play. Flying Colors wanted to hide. Hero was excited over so many Pokemon about at once. And the colors. Hero was excited about everything. Parish was tired by the time it was over, but excited for the new day as he knocked on the door to the captain's office. His gills had sealed in the night. He wouldn't be needing them where he was going.

"Ah, good. A reasonable time, Trainee LaBrasta," Captain Armstrong says, grinning. "I expect that this is going to be your first time using more... wild Pokémon, and in an unfamiliar environment. Just remember to be quick on the draw incase they get themselves into trouble, okay?"
He leads Parish down to the portal building, which comes with a very fresh ozone scent. Ah, that new portal smell.
"Captain, I still don't think this is wise..." Rebecca's voice comes over the comms.
"Eh, don't worry. I'll take the heat for it. Sometimes you have to bend the rules in the name of the best results."
And with that, the two step through. It's cold, and dark, with the air still. Even through protective clothing, it's still chilly. There's no glimmer of light off in the distance. No sounds. No nothing.

Parish doesn't make eye contact with Rebecca, a little embarrassed by the fact they were breaking rules. It was out the window as they moved into the vast darkness. Parish took a knee and ran his hand over the ground. "This entire dimension is a series of caves and tunnels like this? What an odd thing..."
The boy listened carefully, and rose, releasing Hero, he wrapped the fish in one of his spare blankets and settled him atop his pack.

"Well, we don't actually know," Armstrong says, as Parish exams the dry, stony ground. "There might be an exit somewhere. We only have an idea of... here." The cave must be absolutely enormous, though, given the lack of echoes when they speak. The words instead just drift off into silence.
Hero seems to be enjoying himself despite the abrupt change in temperatures, and especially seems to enjoy being made into a burrito.
"...I really need to pay more attention to temperatures besides 'is it desert-y, or is there snow or frost' as a gauge," the Captain mutters. "To tell you the truth, Parish, I'm not necessarily the best example. Not always the most cautious. It's paid off so far, but, uh, don't follow my example too much." He laughs, though it's a bit less jovial in emptiness of the colossal cavern.
"What, the illustrious Captain Armstrong break regulations?" Rebecca asks, dryly. "Neeeever."

"Well, the air temperature implies a few things. On Alpha class worlds it would put us somewhere deep in the mantle. It isn't particularly humid, which is unusual for cave systems below a water table. The temperatures would merit condensation. There is a breathable atmosphere, which means gravity, and an atmospheric shell.". The boy rose again and looked around. "Have you tried tracking externals here yet?"
