"Hope with no preparation is naive and casts your odds to good fortune or divine favor. Believing the worst comes and throwing yourself into actions to promote safety leads to endless toil and despondency.

"So long as you always hold on to that, things will be okay.". Jasmine settled into silence, grooming the resting Pokemon herself, while Thel cooked. A relaxed, comfortable quiet settling over the lighthouse minus the wind and the rain. Food was made and doled out, their duties complete.
"I'm not afforded a lot of time for friends as a gym leader, but this was nice."

He shakes his head. "I know Whitney said much the same. With very rarely being able to have any time for her. It... seems like it's really, really hard being a gym leader. That you have to give up so much."
"Oh, before I forget..." he adds, turning to the Ampharos. "Would you like me to bring some friends along when I come to do things, so you could have some more company? Or do you prefer just being able to rest in the quiet?"

Sirius looks between Thel and Jasmine, the bulbs on its forehead and tail flickering slowly. It gives a bleat and a slight lick of his cheek.
"He trusts your judgement, I'd say. And truly, being a gym leader is massive responsibility. More these days, but those of us that take it up had really high aspirations to begin with. To become a gym leader you have to have taken a region's whole circuit, and challenged the elite four but failed to defeat the champion. Then the top eight in the tournament for a given year are awarded the position. Every so often, a newcomer comes along and shakes things up."

He laughs at the licking. "Okay, I'll probably bring some along... but just make sure to let me know if it's getting too overwhelming. I know that some of my friends can sometimes be a... bit of a handful, especially if you've never been around them before."
"That sounds incredibly stressful, yeah..." he says. Even just listening to Jasmine's explanation sounded exhausting. "No wonder Whitney is so vaunted, if she's gone through that so, so young. You all have my admiration and gratitude even more..."

Walking with Thel back to the gym, Jasmine bids him goodnight as he settles in to read, Patience and a few of his Pokemon settling in close. The book itself is very informative, breaking down measurements for each ingredient, heat values, how the food should look, sides and drinks it is often paired with,and so on.
"Humans take things that are just meant to keep them going and turn it into this big activity...". Patience commented, reading over Thel's shoulder.

"I think this is mostly for when there's lots of people," Thel comments. "For making sure you have a single way to do it, so everyone knows what to do. For when there's more than one person. Because I know for me, I couldn't tell you exactly how I make all of my food, so it'd be hard to work with someone else and have it all tasting the same."
"But, yeah," he laughs. "They do seem to overcomplicate a lot."

"I don't think it was necessarily necessary... but that just seems to be what humans do," Thel says, musing. "They keep at one thing, until it's the best that thing can be. So they have to spend less time with things they don't want to do, and can spend more time enjoying things."
"With how selfless they can be, it wouldn't surprise me if someone just tried to make, like, the best sandwich and looked into that, and then shared it so that everyone else could reap the rewards of that knowledge. It may have been a lot of time for one person... but there are a lot of people."

"Oh, uh, I'll probably be staying at school to plan for Friday after the day's out, maybe until I have to go to the lighthouse. I'll make sure to leave you some snacks in case I can't come back before, like, this time at night. When I can make dinner and stuff. If that's okay. I might be able to drop something off before heading to the lighthouse."

"That's okay, I won't starve in a few hours Thel.". Patience smiled tiredly. It had been a long and stressful day, for all parties involved. Sleep came quickly...
"Come on Thel, we'll be late.". Bryonry laughed and tugged him along away from the campus. She, Thel, and the others were all wearing matching outfits that seemed uncannily familiar. Red stockings, shorts, a stiffly pleated skirt and a matching top. Up the mountain they went, all five giddy to go and indict him into their order. As a friend.

It's nice to see Bryony a lot more emotive, though. She usually isn't, really. So it really buoys his spirits that this'll be something special. Certainly something that means a lot to them.

The journey is lost in the excitement, in a grand field amidst wildflowers sits a rose so large a car could park in it, though the entire left side is blackened. Only Mable seems to notice this. "This is it Thel...". She begins to caution him, but Celosia fits a metal visor with blue slats over her face. "I'm with you, no matter what...". Mable adds, trailing off.
"We got you one too Thel.". Aliana offers the boy mask in shades of purple. A white skinned man with red glasses and a crisp red suit watched on with some interest.

Whoa. It's... enormous. "I've never seen something like that before..." he breathes, just taking it in. How could a flower grow so big? The wonders of the world never cease.
"Huh? Oh, thank you," he says to Aliana. So many gifts. He kinda feels a little bit uncomfortable with them all. Clothes, friendship, now this. But, like Jasmine said, they were probably doing it out of kindness, and it would be rude to reject. The lenses look darker, sunglasses, maybe? Either way, he follows how Mable had hers.
