"The guest bed is made if you would rather sleep. There will be leftovers in the fridge if you get hungry in the night. Do you know how to use a microwave?". Miranda asked hesitantly, giving Muku's shoulder a squeeze in passing before returning to her work.

"No, no and I can wait up a bit. It's alright. I think I'd rather... Do something. Preferably something that doesn't involve beeping machines." Her eyes cast a dark glance at this 'microwave'. There were no Starly words for such a device. It was suspicious. Dangerous. There would be no 'micro-ing' or 'waving' here tonight. The smell of the kitchen drew her towards it. She gives Miranda a small pout. "Thel. He always did a lot of weird stuff like this. Cooking? I think he likes it for some reason. Would I be able to help with it?"

Miranda considered Muku for a moment and nodded. Opening a cupboard she hauled a sack made of brown... Grasses maybe? It looked very scratchy, and contained brown things that sort of looked like lumpy rocks. Miranda settled a garbage can between two chairs, and brought a pair of knives to the table. Holding one, she removed the brown part so it was white, and cut it into big chunks.
"These are called potatoes.". She dropped the chunks into a pot. "They are very filling and you eat them with butter. They are a kind of plant. You can help me peel and cut them?"

Muku nods eagerly. Cutting things was not her specialty, but it was in fact rapidly becoming a hobby. This was especially true now that she had two swords instead of one. "I bet I can handle that easy. Working with Talon has taught me the joys of the blaaaaade."
Muku picks up the knife by the handle, hand wrapping around the hilt. Now she... Cut it? Huh. Wait, nope. Talon did not prepare her for this. Talon only taught her how to cut things in half and how to do that a lot. How did one... Peel?

"Fingers around the grip." Miranda shows Muku how she is holding her knife. "Thumb along the back of the blade. This gives you more control. You hold the potato loosely in your other hand and cut away from yourself. Lightly take the peel away." The woman slowed the motion down this time for Muku to see, one rake, two, three, four, five, six and it was bare. Another went into the pot. "You'll want to take it slow at first."

"Ok. So not like a sword. Despite being a small sword. Riight." Knife in hand, a skeptical Muku attempts to figure out just what Miranda was getting at. Sure, it made sense, but only to a degree. Her eyes flit. Potato. Knife. Potato. A bead of sweat trails down the back of her neck. This couldn't be that hard. Yeah. This was easy. Thumb there. For control. Potato in the other hand. Cut towards self. No! Away from self. This was a potato, not a Hoppip.
Huh. Could Hoppips be put into soups?
No! Too late to consider that. Mmip wasn't emergency food anymore. Probably. Picking up the knife, she pensively makes a first cut. The skin slides off easily enough. Huh. Biting her lip, she moves to deskin this potato treat...

Miranda smiles warmly and picks up her pace, deftly shaving the skin from a spud in seven to nine strokes all performed in quick sequence. While Muku was fighting birds, Miranda was studying the blade. While Muku was beeping at birds, Miranda was studying the blade. While Muku was a bird, Miranda was studying the blade. Flayer of Life, Potato Consumer Miranda.

Saying nothing, but doing something, Muku attempts to speed up. One eye on Miranda absorbing technique. Second on her own hand, so as not to wet the potato with the blood of Starly. May the pot boil and turn with potato flessssh.

Muku's pacing and technique improved as the bag emptied between her and Miranda. There were neither words, nor a need for them. The focus on the task at hand emptied Muku's head of pesky thoughts and the tension of her body. There was only the pass of the knife, the potato, the pot, and Miranda's quiet tutelage to her sharp eyes. When the pot was full, she rose, filled it with water and put it on the stove. The front door swung open roughly, with a powerful gale behind it and a bang.
Chuck staggered into the hallway and pushed the door closed.

Muku looks up and smiles, a smile that quickly fades upon seeing Chuck as tired as he is. Moved to concern, she quickly dumps the potato peels into the trash and rushes over to his side. Wrapping her arms around him, she gives the gym leader a tight hug. Hugs were an odd thing, but she decided that she liked them well enough.
Well maybe. He was tired and smelled of battle of a different kind. Probably needed a shower too. More weird human things.
After a few seconds of this, she pivots and tucks herself beneath his shoulder blade. “Here. Let’s get you to a chair and some soup.” She says. “Miranda showed me how to skin the flesh of potatoes. So you better enjoy them.”

Chuck gives Muku an awkward confused half smile, making eye contact with Miranda who shrugged with a relieved smile and he laughed in spite of himself. "Alright Muku. I will enjoy your potatoes."
Chuck's soft body felt much harder then it looked. With Muku's assistance he dropped into a chair and scrubbed water from his face and beard with a small towel. "Keeping ahead of it Miranda. Whole town is at its limit.". She spooned him a bowl of what she called fish chowder, and watched the potatoes boil.
"No more talking, eat. This is better then what I had to put up with before.". She smiled. "At least now you are too exhausted to stay out."

“Even if you have to fly all day, and still have to fly further, if you don’t stop at some point you’ll just fall and crash.” Muku nods in agreement. She sets aside her own bowl and sits down at the table. He’s not alone in looking tired. Her eyes are faded, though still with a faint glint of determination.
She wanted to ask about the work, but a parting glance at Miranda silences the thought. She quickly pipes up, as if to answer some unspoken question. “Caving went ok. Terra is fine, I think, but we had to part ways for a bit. I think with everything going on, out battle with the Gunshow might have to wait a bit. I might be long here, but I’ll see what I can do to help.”

"That's okay Muku, Gunshow even for an extra pair of hands has them pretty full right now.". Chuck replied between spoonfuls of the rich dish. Several moments later, Miranda set a plate of fluffy white... Something. It looked like the potatoes, only they weren't brick like and covered in what smelled like butter.
"We're a tough bunch here in Cianwood, we'll get through Muku.". Miranda assured. "The ocean might be bigger than our bodies, but our spirits will overcome.". Chuck added, getting a playful cuff from his wife.

Muku nods, though not necessarily assured. Chuck could be as confident as he wanted to be, but the ocean was gonna do what the ocean was gonna do. She was beginning to get the feeling that they weren't gonna hold out forever; maybe even lose power before Lugia. If the town were to flood completely, then even stopping the big disaster would be a hollow victory.
She tentatively gives the bowl of something a try. There was an idea fermenting in the brain cavity. Probably not a good idea. She wasn't that kind of confident. But it was an idea. Better than nothing. Better than no thoughts at all. She was getting away from herself on that one. Bah. Thinking. It was still awful. She changes the subject before her brain explodes.
"I think I've got a problem." She chirps. "I'm hunting down some big birds. First of these birds weren't really too bad for me to fight, but that's because it hates rain and I probably got lucky. I'm thinking the second bird is gonna be a lot more flighty and a lot more fighty. The kind of fight that involves like... Not punching, kicking, or slashing things? You know what I mean. The kind where they shoot stuff that's like wet or hot. Or brain lasers. Do you know how to fight something like that?"

"Psychic Pokemon fall for switch ups and underhanded tactics. You have to let them think you are going to do one thing, then do something else completely.". Chuck offered in a way he thought Muku might understand. "Type advantage always helps. Most birds are badly weak to rock, and electric attacks. If you don't have those, hunting for something that does might be really helpful. I should know, enough people bring them into my gym."

Muku listens intently, lips only ever pursing when Chuck mentioned bird's weakness to rocks and electricity. It's not that he was wrong, but she hated that he was right. Thunder and storms always terrified her as a Starly. That she wasn't freaking out about the rain outside was a small miracle really. And rocks? She refused to get started on the delinquent qualities of rock based organisms.
"Ok. So then, if I want to fight something that is say... Maybe an ice bird, then something rocky might really help there. I've got maybe like, one trick there, but maybe if I head up into the hills, I can find something that is also equally interested in... Throwing rocks at birds. As distasteful as that is."
Somewhere in Muku's unconscious mind, she flashes back to literally days ago throwing rocks at Pidgeys. A contradiction is found. In a huddled mass of gray matter, this issue is fiercely debated. After a long second later, they arrive to the conclusion. Pidgeys were stupid, and therefore barely birds. It was not distasteful to throw rocks at Pidgeys. A bit satisfied, Muku enjoys the white mass. It wasn't bad!

"An Ice and Flying type would be doubly weak to Rock, yes.". Chuck agreed with Muku, his brow set in consternation. "The only Pokemon like that is on the other end of the region though.". Shaking his head he let it go and just accepted it. "If you are going to be hunting for Rock Pokemon to assist with your large bird, there is a cave just rife with them called Shattered Crag about... An hour northwest of here? It's visible from the top of the cliffs."

"Right. I wanted to go up the cliffs anyways. Talk to the Pokémon up there where they do the fighting thing." She says with a nod. Her look turns quizzical. "Are those Pokemon wild? The fighting ones I mean. They seem really, really organized for Pokémon."

"Fighting Types are often very human like. They fight each other to get stronger, and they form gatherings and family units based on master and student. Discipline is a trait of many of them but bit all. Some are simply wild and powerful, and uncannily skilled-". Chuck carries on with a sparkle in his eye till Miranda cuts him off. "Yes Muku, they are wild Pokemon."

"Civilized, but wild. Kind of like me, but maybe the opposite way. Muku adds insightfully. Whereas Muku was a Pokémon person, Fighting-Types were human-like Pokémon, that ultimately weren't human. Having finished her meal, she slumps a little in her chair and leans forward on her arms. "I'm gonna head up to them first tomorrow. Ideas. But tonight I need like... Sleep."
