There's a brief pause in the hammering as the loud noise seems to startle the woman. She turns to look at the pair. "Oh, uh, sorry, wasn't expecting anyone. Uh... a lot of the off-dutys spend some time at the ocean overlook, over yonder." She makes a gesture. "If you need anything else, I'll be done in a little bit." She goes back to work.
"Anything else about swords or something you want to ask here?" Rainbow asks.

"Do... people wear armor in this time period? I've read about it in other regions, some of it was ceremonial but others it had legitimate protective properties. I don't really like heavy clothing on my skin, but if it was conductive maybe it would be alright?" She asked Rainbow with a straight face. "Not that I have any currency to afford such a thing..."

"Not a lot of time, no," Rainbow says, shaking her head. "For a lot of people, just making sure you have the right elemental affinity to be fighting what you are is important. And being able to make a getaway if you're in over your head is important. Out in the field, you've got a lot of junk to carry already. Armour just weighs you down. Might be able to get some fitted in, like, Rustboro if you want it. But a lot of the time it's just too awkward, hampering one's abilities, and hard to actually fit protection-wise. Like your tail, for instance," she gestures.

"Yeah... Solenoid is a bit unwieldy like that." Bee let out a buzzing giggle. "Maybe one of the off duties can help, and won't make fun of me too much in the process." She started towards the point the smith had described, not moving particularly briskly. "What's your dad like?" She asked suddenly.

"Oh? Uh, he's happiest when he's doing something. Restless when he has to sit around, nothing being done. It's why he likes being a sentinel, just goes around, watching to see if anything bad's on the horizon that'll need to be dealt with or prepared for," Rainbow says. "Whenever he was home when I was younger, I could tell when things started to grate on him and he just wanted to be back out there. But he sucked it up for his family. Tried to bring me back little bits of wherever he'd gone, telling me about the sights he saw. Liked going flying with me. Mom always preferred the ground."

"He sounds nice." Bee ran a thumb along the back of her opposite hand. "I should've said goodbye to my parents, at least given them a chance to know what was going on if I never came back. Maybe Evelyn would, or did. I don't really know anymore. Small regrets, far too late. I feel what you mean about how the world just... tastes and feels sinister in some savage sort of way. It is... not making things easy."

"I'm... sure we'll make it," Rainbow says. "And then you can go back, and tell people all about your adventures," she teases. "I'm sure they'll believe you."
"I...do understand how you feel, though," she adds. "I worry about going and just... nobody knowing exactly what happened. At least this is my own time, but..."

"Maybe a children's fantasy novel series about all of this. Truth written as fiction. I'll bring you a vintage copy when I figure out the whole time travel thing for myself." She smiled, giving Rainbow a little nudge. "Feels strange calling you Chrysanthemum, but I'm guessing even the King and Queen don't get name rights out the gate?"

"I mean... they probably could, but... as I mentioned, we're not exactly... on the best of terms," Rainbow says. "What with the whole… thing. So, there's a deliberate degree of separation there. Yeah. Uh, anyways, it's fine, you can keep calling me Rainbow. I said it was fine when we met, after all."

"Oh, the way I understood it was around people that didn't have naming permission I was supposed to use your given name instead. Guess I was a little off the mark there." She continues towards the Overlook, the slope of the hill coupled with the extra weight on her back making walking particularly uncomfortable. Really she would prefer to float, but she hadn't really found a way to do it yet that wasn't in some fashion either too relaxed or too menacing. Upright, legs straight, arms in any variety of positions, too menacing. Sitting cross-legged, too relaxed. Walking on air, silly and wasteful. Any variety of 'laying' pose was vulnerable and lax.

"Oh, uh, you mean to other people, yeah, for most of them, it's Chrysanthemum. Except, like... my parents and Aurora," Rainbow says. "Though my mom keeps insisting on using her pet name for me." She shrugs. "Ah well, it's harmless. I think she was the one who really insisted on the name, given that her family has a line of flower names in their women."

"I'm just glad Mom and Dad did their own naming thing with me and didn't go with what Gram and Gramps wanted, or I'd have been named Crystal." Bee snorted softly. "Gram has one of those really old fashioned names, Millicent? I think it was, but when it was young she went by Mica, she likes rocks." The girl smiled, clearly in better spirits for the nostalgia.

"Crystal's a nice name," Rainbow says. "I don't know how well it would suit you, given that I only know you as Beatrice, but it's a nice name. I like it. I, uh, don't really know what names are old fashioned. I mean, given your age, Beatrice is pretty old fashioned, isn't it?" She winks.

"I'll admit, it is a little dated, more modern names for my time tended to be one to two syllables." She shrugged amiably.

"I didn't actually mean it," Rainbow giggles. "I don't actually know anything about your names."
It's not too much further before the pair reaches the ocean overlook. There's an actual visible structure there; much like Alissa's house, it's a sturdy stone construction. Presumably it doesn't really matter if it's attacked, given that there's apparently a bunch of off-duty guardians and whatnot who like to frequent it. Anything that actually attacks it would likely regret it.
The door is open, and the warm smell of cooking, and the chatter of hubbub fills the air. A variety of people of all shapes and sizes fill the area - from lithe to burly, winged to scaled, all sorts are present here. Nobody really seems to care about your entrance, they all just keep to their conversations and jokes.

To say that Bee was out of her element was an understatement. She'd never seen so many Hybrid in one place before, and her head swam with questions of no immediate relevance. Considering the physics of wielding something cumbersome on a regular basis, it was unlikely the winged, or slighter built of the gathered would know anything of the weapon she now carried. Picking her way through the room once, on the second trip around, you approached one of the better built individuals. "Excuse me?" She interrupted as politely as she could. "I was looking for someone who could explain the basics of... I think it's called a Greatsword? to me."

"Hmmmm?" the muscular, blue-tinged woman says, turning to Bea, before laughing. "Don't you think you're a little slim for that? You've got that thing, anyways." She gestures to Bea's tail, grinning. "Whatcha need a sword for, with a stinger like that?"

"Well... you see... it... it isn't just any weapon, and if the rest fails me I'd like to be able to rely on it?" She explained hesitantly as she started to free the blade from the scabbard, her tail moving to one side and hanging weightless in the air, the first few inches of glowing, crystalline blade freeing itself from the scabbard. At her full reach, it was visible but wasn't anywhere near clear. The girl realized she had no idea how to even draw the thing appropriately, and that was written on her face.

"Ahh... it's something to do with heroics and proving oneself, I gotcha," the woman winks. "May not be a real sword, but you gotta practice well, eh? Hmmm," she thinks. "I think I saw Stormbringer over there swording it up a few times. He prefers an axe, but he could probably teach you at least some of the proper stuff. He's the guy over there with the large shoulders, and about four mugs in front of him." She laughs. "Probably want to get to him before he drinks too much more, otherwise he might start getting tipsy." The man in question does bear a resemblance to Crassi, she realizes, so he's probably bonded with a Drapion.

"Thank you for your time." Bee flushed, thoroughly embarrassed to be called out like that. Was that really the case? Heroics and not necessity? Perhaps not. She wasn't so vainglorious as to revel in combat and her mastery thereof. Emboldened by the slight success with the unnamed woman, who was surprisingly normal all things considered, she approached the sturdy looking 'Stormbringer' "Excuse me sir, I was told by uh... the blue skinned woman over there that you might know a thing or two about using a greatsword? And to get your attention before you got too deep into your cups." Was that rude? Should she have left that part out? Wait, there were drinks that threw off your balance? What... was this time?
