Vess takes back her hoodie with a shrug. "I have... something I need to do in town before we leave, but it's not something to do right now. The mines sound find to me."

Having decided on your next course of action, you go to prepare to leave, everyone making sure they are properly dressed and any equipment or items they want readily available is such. The pamphlet on the mines does indeed have a small map of the area, as well as clear instruction as to how to get there. It also says that anyone wishing to explore the mines should first visit the Mining Museum just outside, to check in with the curator, get more information on the mines and where it is and isn't safe to go, and to let someone know where they are going.
You five make quick pace through town, and soon enough find yourself on the simple path leading to the museum and mines. Identifying which building exactly is the museum isn't too hard, as it's built in an even more old-fashioned style from the rest of town, and there's a wooden mascot standing outside it (an old prospector wearing a dunce hat). A sign above the entrance says in slightly faded letters 'Pyrite Town Mining Museum'.
Upon entering, you're greeted by a middle-aged man wearing something close to a cowboy getup, smiling broadly. "Howdy kids! Here for a tour of the museum?" he asks in an exaggerated southern Unovan accent (which is clearly faked).

Robin smirks at the affect and speaks in what she likes to think is a slightly better Southern Unovan accent, just to see how he'd react to thinking someone actually had the accent he was faking. "Thinkin' 'bout it, Pops, but right now, we was hopin' to take li'l trip down the mines. Thought it'd be neat to see a good ol' hole in the ground and since we can't make it to Orre, figured this'd be the next best thing." He gives the man a smirk and a quick, excited raise of the eyebrows.

The man snorts and grins, his drawl somehow become worse when he starts talking again. "Well, ain't all y'all the luckiest bunch of fellows this side of the ol' Stonebark woods, for us Pyrite folk take pride in having the luvverliest darn hole in the ground y'all'll ever see in yer life." He casually leans against a similar mascot to the one outside as he says this. "Y'all coming for some regular ol' sightseein', or lookin' to wrangle yourselves some critters lurkin' in the mines?"

Oh, so it's an arms race of cartoon accents, is it? Robin grins at the challenge, unintentional as it might be.
"L'il bitta both, I'd reckon," she chirps, keeping the accent relatively consistent but putting a little more emphasis on the altered words. "Y'got any tips on tusslin' with the li'l varmints."
She gives a small smirk to her companions and tilts her head slightly towards the man, silently letting them know they can step in at any time, otherwise she'd happy to keep going.

Thoroughly bewildered at the bizarre exchange, Jean-Marie shakes her head clear before speaking to the guide.
"I am interested in possibly catching some Pokemon but I am a bit wary of being that far underground. Is there anything we should be particularly cautious of?"

The man grins at Robin, ready to retort when Jean-Marie pipes up. Focusing his attention to her, he smiles kindly, and drops most of the accent, only a slight twang remaining. "You lot are new to the whole training business then, I reckon? No need to worry your head too much, we've got a whole section of the mines, nearer to the surface, set up for starting trainers and the like. We try to keep the bigger threats lower down the mines."
He takes out a map and lays it out on the counter for all of you to see. "The mines are divided in three sections. The parts meant for trainers and such, least. The upper reaches y'all can get in for free, and nothing there should be too big a problem, provided you don't go wandering in too deep." He gestures to the left arm of the mines, which seems to be sectioned off in three distinct pathways from a starting room, each pathway splitting off in its own system of tunnels. "Depending on when you lot started trainin', you'll wanna stick to the areas marked in green, yellow, orange, or red." - you notice that the left side of the map has a variety of coloured markings, the colour going from green near the entrance, to yellow, orange, and red deeper into the mines - "The other two areas y'all are gonna have to pay for, and they're a mite more difficult than the upper reaches, so best to leave that be for the moment, I reckon."

Benji was having trouble understanding why Robin and the man were talking funny, but he decided to stay quiet since both seemed to be having fun. Once the man places the map on the counter, though, he immediately scoots closer to look.
"Wow, this is a really nice organization!" he says, moving around to see the map from various angles. "Do you have maps like these for us to take? Or should I take a picture!?" he asks excitedly, fumbling around his pocket to take out the pokédex. "Jasmine showed me how to do it. Can I take a picture of it? Or is it paid? Do I have to pay for the map? I think I still have some money left..." he starts mumbling, looking for something at his bag.

"Feel free to take a picture of the upper reaches. We do sell maps of the mines, but the paths in the upper parts are pretty straightforward, 'specially in the early parts that y'all'll wanna stick to, so I wouldn't worry too much about getting your own map for now. Mind, the critters milling about have a tendency to mess with some of the smaller tunnels, so the maps are rarely fully correct. Main paths should be fine though, but keep a look out for some unmarked side paths. Who knows, might find yourself something int'restin'. Mines are connected to a whole bunch of caves in the area, and plenty of mon find themselves wanderin' in through nooks and crannies. Never know what y'all might run into."

Jean-Marie shuffles her feet, clearly anxious to begin exploring the caves.
"Are you guys ready? I am really excited to see these mines."

Orianne sighed and shook her head slightly as Robin just had to antagonize and banter. It had only been a day and already the inefficiency of his conversation was draining. The dour expression changed slightly when Benji redirected the man toward providing useful information. Of course, the moment of being impressed was snuffed when he began tripping all over himself in an effort to over-prepare.
She reached down and released the frosty meowth from the ball. There really wasn't any point to keeping her hidden, especially since the man had mentioned there would be surprise dangers. "I'm ready."

Benji smiles widely and stops going through his bag the moment the man answers, and immediately starts taking pictures of the upper areas, trying to get it all in a single detailed image. He takes a few and, as soon as he gets one he likes, he puts the pokédex away and turns to the girls with a grin.
"All set, ladies!" he says, giving them a thumbs-up. "Let's do this!"

"Happy huntin' you lot! Remember, be careful and keep an eye out!" the man says as you five leave the museum and continue following the path into the mines. The path to the mines is easy enough to follow, and soon you find yourself at the entrance to the Pyrite Gold Mines, a wide mouth hewn into the mountainside, about as tall as it is wide. After a few moments of deliberation, you five go through the entrance. A short, mostly straight tunnel follows, going downwards at a slight angle, connecting to a spacious room, that in the past might have served as a staging area for the mining operations. To your left there is an open tunnel, well lit, with a sign identifying it as 'The Upper Reaches'. There are two heavy iron doors installed in the cave walls, one straight ahead and one to your right, signs identifying these as 'The Deep Caves' and 'The Lower Reaches' respectively. A small number of Pokémon, easily recognisable as Geodude and Roggenrolla, have situated themselves in front of the entrance to the upper reaches, and are giving you guys ugly looks (at least, you're assuming the Roggenrolla are, to match the Geodude. Hard to tell, really). As you move closer to the entrance, they grow more agitated, and seem unwilling to back off an let you pass. Feel free to give a bit of fluff as you guys enter the mines, but after that combat has pretty much started. We'll be using this map, feel free to place yourself somewhere between the entrance (on the left side) and the Pokémon.

Robin raises an eyebrow as he looks at the assembled rock-types. "So," he whispers back to the others, "we looking to talk our way past these guys or fight 'em? Cause I'm good for either."

Jean-Marie smiles and releases Cheri, returning the ball to her bag without a word. The Vullaby squawks in surprise at being effectively underground, but quickly adjusts to the task at hand.
"I think I have had my fill of talking our way through things today."

Benji goes down the mines with a smile, the Pokedex on his hand as he looks at the map. As soon as his attention is called to the pokémon ahead, he stops and watches, listening to his companions' conversation. "Uhh, do we need to fight?" he asks, uncertainty on his voice. "I mean, they're... rocky! Aren't they too stro...?"His speech is interrupted by Yash's growling. The yungoos immediately jumps from his perch on Benji's shoulder and immediately runs towards the nearest enemy headfirst with what sounds like a battle cry, but way too cute to be intimidating. Actions: Yash is going to move to K10 from M13 and attack Geodude 3 with Tackle.

The feral scratch-cat had already begun moving forward as Ori had paused to retrieve her Pokedex. She wasn't completely competent in it's use, but really wanted to try to scan one of the Pokemon. Much better to practice on easy targets than trying to figure out how it worked when there was a real threat.
Blades of ice form midair, as if condensed and frozen from the damp of the cave, and sent flying toward one of the geodudes. Ori pondered Sapphire's choice of target. She hadn't commanding that attack, but it seemed the best choice considering the rock could easily flank the yungoos.
Ori uses Pokedex to scan Geodude 3.
Sapphire uses Ice Shard on Geodude 2.

Robin chuckles for a moment before locking eyes with the leftmost Roggenrola, choosing it as her primary target. "Hey, little guy," she coos, holding her hands up placatingly. "No need for violence, we're not looking for a fight."All of a sudden, she grins and throws her hand forward, as if throwing something over the Roggenrola's shoulder, though there's nothing there. "But since we're in one, why don't you have some fun with that?!"Robin: Standard: Baby-Doll Eyes on Roggenrola 1 AC2: e6JKiRVt1d20 On hit, reduces Atk by 1 CS
Swfit: Activate Quick Wit to use Sweet Kiss on Roggenrola 1 AC6:1d20 On hit, Roggenrola is confused. On miss, Roggenrola suffers -2 Evasion for one full round.
Both attacks "crit" on 18+, making Roggenrola vulnerable and making it lose a tick of hit points. 1d20·1d20

Jean-Marie steps towards the pair of Geodude near the left wall menacingly, and her shadow seems to double in length. She lets out an almost inaudible growl toward the Rock Pokemon, but they seem shaken by the approach. Actions: Jean-Marie is attacking with Snarl on squares I8-J9, targeting Geodude 2 and 3. Snarl Attack: 4T0N2iun1d20 vs. AC 3 Damage: 2d6+14+5 Dark, Special damage. Also lowers Sp.Atk 1 CS. 1d20·2d6+14

Robin, keeping one eye on her teammates in evaluation, raises an eyebrow at Jean-Marie's actions, not finding it actively fantastical, but still a little spooky. Unbothered by this, however, Rowan takes a moment to focus inwards, swelling up slightly as he steps forward towards the fray. Rowan moves to M10 and uses Growth.
