Rowan: Shift: Disengage to N9 Standard: Rollout on Roggenrola 1, Passing through to N7 AC3: Acd1LrSJ1d20+1
2d6+22 Physical Rock damage Rowan chirps cockily as the Roggenrola's attention is focused squarely on Robin. Hopping to the side on his stubby little legs, he pivots on one tiny foot to keep his momentum before barrelling into the rock's backside and smashing past him with a mocking grunt. 1d20+1·2d6+22

Vess waits for her opportunity, and... well, there could probably be a better one, but this one seemed good enough. She pulled out a pokeball, tossing it in the air a moment before tossing it at the more injured of the little rocks. OtRXeXYn1d20+1 vs AC 6, spending an AP. 1d100-1 Capture check!1d20+1·1d100-1

Between Sapphire's frigid barrage and Yash's swipe, the last remaining Geodude is getting battered from all sides, and it's skin is starting to show several large cracks and missing chunks of stone. the Roggenrola facing off against Robin is getting bruised by the constant impacts from Rowan, but still seems to be faring well enough to fight. Robin's words seem to have angered it, and even as Rowan barrels straight over it, it gets ready to tackle the young grifter once again, when... Wooosh... bzzzzzip... wobble... wobble... wobble... ... DING! Vess's Pokéball hits true, and the Roggenrola, in no condition to fight the catching power of the small device, is successfully captured. The second Roggenrola, meanwhile, isn't doing great, as it is being tag teamed by Jean-Marie and Cheri, the two showing some impressive teamwork as they harass and distract their quarry, allowing the other to get in quick hits from the side. Their relentless attacks are enough to chip off a good chunk of rock off of the Pokémon, and it's starting to look wobbly and panicked. The sole remaining Geodude, meanwhile, upset at the sudden metal ball impacting it, rolls down at even higher speeds, crashing into Citadel as it moves across him. Vess has successfully caught Roggenrola 1! Roggenrola 2 takes 1 Injury. Geodude 1 takes 2 Injuries.
Geodude 1 uses Rollout on Citadel! AC4: C6x0ed2p1d20, DB13: 4d10+21 Physical Rock type damage. 1d20·4d10+21

There is a sudden shower of harmless sparks and a horrid screeching sound as the Rock and Steel type scrape by each other, neither managing to find a good angle to attack the other, and the friction of their drive by seems to have dropped both their momentum back to their normal state of nil. The last little Roggenrola, upon seeing most of its friends knocked out or gone, jumps up, makes a startled rock noise, and starts fleeing into the tunnel. Roggenrola 2 takes 2 Disengage shift actions (one with shift action, one with standard) to move up

"Keep your distance and keep up the pressure, those rock moves will hurt if you're hit!"
Orianne motioned for the cat to fall back. It does so without any fuss this time. Perhaps realizing that it wasn't nearly as sturdy as the clashing metal and stone types. More icicles formed in the air, darting toward the final geodude.
Orianne uses Focused Training on Sapphire! (+1 accuracy and +2 skill checks)
Sapphire moves south 2 squares. Sapphire uses Ice Shard on Geodude 1.
Ice Shard! Priority Attack: _p1CJdzx1d20+2 vs. AC 2 Damage: DB 6 2d6+22 Ice, Physical damage. 1d20+2·2d6+22

Benji breathes in relief as the last pokémon seems to turn around and start to flee. His companions seem fine, if a bit beaten up, and Vess even captured one of them! He should have thought of that first, but it was his first actual battle and he was panicking a bit. Yash, however, doesn't seem to have had enough. As soon as the roggenrola is a bit distant and relaxes, the yungoos moves in a flash, pouncing at the rock pokémon. "Yash, no!" Benji yells and Yash tries to stop, but the impetus makes them collide with force. Actions: Yash activates Pursuit as a Full Action Reaction, moving adjacent to the last roggenrola and attacking. Pursuit! Attack: xV95bEAi1d20+1 vs. AC 2 (spending 1 AP just for the drama) Damage: 2d8+21 Dark, Physical damage. 1d20+1·2d8+21

Jean-Marie sighs, relaxing at the sight of the last opponent rolling away.
"Whew, that was a nice warmup! Anyone want to chase the last one down?"

Rowan uses Rollout on Roggenrola 2 AC4: hV33oACu1d20+1 2d6+22 Physical Rock damage Before Jean-Marie can even finish speaking, Rowan is already barreling towards the fleeing Roggenrola with an indignant chirp. To him, it seems like this opponent acted tough when it was with a group but, the moment the odds turned against it, it fled. And that just wasn't on. With a joyous yelp, Rowan slams into the Roggenrola's back, using its built-up momentum to its fullest. 1d20+1·2d6+22

With Rowan's battle chirp and a distressed sounding rattling noise from the Roggenrola, the small rock Pokémon is knocked out cold, and a sudden silence falls, sharply contrasting the tumultuous noise of combat just scant moments before. The five of you take in the scene you have wrought, the four Pokémon left groaning on the dusty cave floor, the chunks of rock and small splotches of blood scattered around, the surprisingly comforting weight of a newly acquired companion in your hand. It is still and quiet, and the path deeper into the mines lies open, now unguarded. Your first combat is over! Everyone gains 1 Trainer Exp and 14 experience. Vess has caught a Roggenrola! It is male, level 8, has the Patient nature, has the Sturdy ability, knows the moves Tackle, Harden, and Sand-Attack, and has taken 1 Injury.

"That went pretty smoothly. Hopefully we can find a few more Pokemon people are interested in. Should we actually go into the mines?"
Orianne made note that they hadn't even really been in the mines yet, just at the entrance. She knelt down and scratched the top of Sapphire's head and along her spine.
"Good girl, you did very well!"

"Yeah, you all did," Robin agrees, giving a smile down to Rowan, who's in the middle of a mild victory dance in the direction of the Roggenrola. "Nice catch, there, Vess. I set 'em up, you knock 'em down - gotta love teamwork, huh?
"Speaking of," she says, getting out a small pack of snacks, "anyone get hurt too bad just now? Don't be shy if you need a little energy boost."

Benji allows Yash to climb back to his position on the trainer's shoulders, caressing his fur as he perches. "No, thanks, Robin. We're fine," he says with a smile, before opening his backpack and taking out a bottle of water. "But I do have some water, if anyone needs some." He seems strangely tired for someone who apparently didn't do anything in the battle, instantly downing a bottle of mineral water. Turning back to the unconscious pokémon, he kneels down to check if none of them are too hurt. "I think they'll be fine. And we should definitely keep going!" he says in answer to Orianne. "Now I want to see what else is down there," he finishes with a big smile. (Mechanics) Just to be clear, Benji is drinking just mineral water for the RP, but he has some Enriched Waters he's offering if anyone needs it.
He's also spending 1 AP to make a Record of the mines as soon as it's possible (not sure if this already counts as the mines or not.)

"Cheri got a little roughed up by one of those rocks. Nothing too serious, but enough to ruffle her feathers." Jean-Marie scratches the back of the bird's head in affection.
"Great job everyone, that was fun! I'm excited to explore a little deeper if you guys are up for it."

"It seems decided. We press on." Orianne motioned for the Meowth to stalk out in front.
Sapphire quickly understands that the hunt is still on, and slinks down into a hunting stance as she moves forward.

After recovering from your first battle, the five of you head deeper into the mines, following the path into the upper reaches. You encounter a handful of Pokémon as you walk, mostly more Geodude and Roggenrola, as well as a couple of bat-like Pokémon, but these seem content to leave your group be, as long as you don't bother them too much.
After a couple of minutes of walking, you pass a small side tunnel, which the map tells you leads to a deeper part of the upper reaches connected to various underground water systems, but which also quickly turns red on the map. A couple of minutes past the side tunnel, the tunnel you're in splits in two, slightly smaller tunnels, which the map tells you both lead in their own direction deeper into the mines, both eventually going from green to yellow, orange, and red further into the mines. Although you haven't found many side paths yet, your map suggests that both paths ahead have several even before it gets into more dangerous terrain, and that many of them are a good deal smaller and tighter than the one you encountered earlier.
Orianne, though you don't find any hidden Pokémon as you walk, and the cave seems bare of any proper gems or crystals, you do spot several gold-like glints, which, on closer inspection, turn out to be small rocks similar to the one the girl on the beach had used in her necklace.

Benji walks along with the others, his eyes flicking from the caves around and a small clay bracelet on his hands. As he walks, he carves small details similar to whatever catches his attention in the mines. So far, it's mostly its front gate, the two rock pokémon they fought and some shadowy bats, all crudely carved by a small file he uses as he walks. Still, it's a memento of their first real adventure, and the deep brown color fits quite well.
As soon as they get to the fork, he puts the bracelet and the tool back into his backpack and takes out his pokédex. He checks his map and looks at the others. "Well, it seems both of them go their own way, so I guess we should just pick one," he says, checking the pictures once again. "They both seem to have enough room to explore before getting to the dangerous parts."
Putting his dex away, he approaches both paths, one at a time, straining to hear anything from them. "Huh," he says, with a curious expression. "I... kinda thought there was nobody working on these mines, but I can hear tools being used and someone hard at work," he finishes, pointing at each tunnel as he lists what he hears. "Which way do we go?"

Jean-Marie cocks her head at the sound of the clanging in the right tunnel. "Yeah, I thought the mines were mostly recreational? I am a bit interested to see what those people are up to." She hoists her pack higher up on her shoulder and starts in that direction.
"Who else wants to check it out?"
