Robin pauses as he reaches the top of a small incline, inhaling deeply. "Ah, just take a whiff of that all nature smell - trees, flowers and fresh mountain air, all with just a moderate sprinkling of old, rotting fruit and bird crap, plus our own light sheen of travel-sweat. De-lightful!"
His comment is mostly a joke, although having Aubrey riding on top of his backpack, as well as Rowan in his traditional purse-like position, did add a small bit of weight to his gear. Nothing close to a problem, but it added a tiny amount of reality to his comment about sweating.
He looks around before catching sight of the Skiddo and snickering. "Hey, don't suppose anyone fancies a lift? Could always see if we can hitch a ride on a native." He trails off into a chuckle before actually starting to consider the possibility. "Hmm, there's a thought."

Benji can't help but smile at Robin's comment. It's simply too true. He himself is sweaty from walking, even though he's no longer wearing his hoodie. Yash tried to complain about losing his spot, but the weather is just too warm for that and he was forced to accept just riding in Benji's satchel, his little head out as he sleeps.
As Robin mentions the Skiddo, Benji turns to his companion. "Oh, do you think we can ride those?" he asks, looking at the pokémon. "Nah, they are small. I cont' think I could force them to carry me... Unless they are used to it?" He shrugs. "Either way, we can see if we can get one of those if you guys want."

Robin laughs. "Well, even if they were big enough, I wouldn't recommend you try and force 'em. Met a guy who tried that once - just jumped on a 'mon and rode it as it bucked and threw itself about. 'Falsetto Joe', they called him." She gives a affected wince to make clear exactly what had caused their voice to get higher. "So, yeah, I'll try to avoid that way of doing things. If nothing else, it'd give the game away. Instead, let's see if we can find an in-road - don't suppose you can see any spicy herbs in the grass around here?"
She raises herself up as high as she can, trying to see if she could spot any such herbs. If I can see which of 'em likes that kinda thing, should give me a clue how to... make 'em something that... wow, am I overcomplicating this, She blinks for a moment, resisting the urge to smack herself in the head.
After a while, she shrugs. "Nope. Well, let's try it the old fashioned way, then." She smiles and makes her way over to the herd, keeping an eye on them to see if and how they react to her presence.

The Skiddo, as a group, don't seem too bothered by you coming closer, and most of them simply continue grazing. A couple of take more notice, some moving away from you, though they don't seem spooked as such, some looking up at you in curiosity, though none approach you.

Robin thinks for a moment, trying to think what she could possibly say to entice a Skiddo to come with. After a few seconds, he just shrugs. "Hey there, fellas. Soooo, I don't suppose there's anyone who's feeling adventurous? As it happens, my and my friends could use a big strong gal to come with us on a big journey and you seem like just the 'mon to help with that." He pulls out a spicy wrap. "Offer comes with free food and friends! Or failing that, could always have a scrap before joining - some 'mon are into that. Anyone interested?" He gives an outwardly confident grin - he doesn't exactly expect they'll be swayed by that, but it's at least an opening to the pitch and he can see where he goes from there.

Most of the Skiddo don't respond to your words, and continue grazing, but a handful of them slowly move closer, sniffing the air cautiously. They still keep their distance, however, and seem ready to bolt on a dime.

Robin smiles pleasantly at the few who are paying attention, slowly and calmly reaching into her pack to pull out a Spicy Wrap and a Salty Surprise, making sure not to do anything to startle the Pokemon. Really need to get some cash once we get to town so I can make a few more special snack. Still, I'd say this is worth it to try for a new 'mon, not to mention a source of milk if I can snag myself a girl.
Not letting her thoughts show on her face, he holds the two snacks out, one in each hand, offering them to be sniffed while subtly favoring any female Skiddo she can see and recognize as such.

Six of the Skiddo finally approach you, four of which you quickly identify as female. After some subtle finagling, you're left with just these four doelings, two of which seem to favour the salty treat, and two the spicy. Two of the Skiddo are sticking pretty close together, one of them constantly nuzzling into the slightly larger one, though they prefer opposite food. The other two keep to them self, both having a certain sense of aloofness to them, even as they sniff your food.

Being a grifter requires being able to read people and get a sense of who they are quickly and, while it's a bad idea to rely too heavily on those quick evaluations, they tended to be good guides more often than not.
So, Robin rapidly thinks about what he's observed about the four Skiddo. Hmm, those two are obviously pretty attached, not gonna like the idea of separating. Besides, no need to split up a winning pair, huh ladies? So that leaves us with the other too. Seem like they've got some pride to them - let's see what we can do with that.
None of these thoughts are shown on his face as he keeps smiling gently. He turns to look at the two lone Skiddo, though not before scattering a few appropriately-flavoured scraps from his rations for the other two, lest it seem like a callous snub.
That done, he gives the others a light smirk. "Hey, so, like I said, me and my friends are on a journey around the region. We're always on the lookout for friends who can help with that and, well, seems like having some-mon like you in our corner could be a real edge. After all, life of a trainer ain't always a walk in the park, you know?" He chuckles lightly. Easy now, don't emphasize that part too much - don't wanna scare 'em off. Just enough to play to their pride. He gently holds his hands out a little further, waiting patiently for them to try the treats. "But it's not like coming along doesn't have its perks."

The pair quickly drift off, and while you try your best, you can't manage to keep both of the remaining Skiddo's attention, and one of them eventually stomps off with a bleated huff, leaving you with just one, though it costs you the entirety of the snack to keep it tempted.

Okay, got one chance at this, don't mess it up.
Despite her nerves, Robin gives the remaining Skiddo a smirk as it finishes the wrap. "You like that. Well, much as I'd love to stay here and keep 'em coming, can't stay too long. But like I say, you're welcome to come along. If not, hey, that's fine - life with a trainer's not something everymon can handle. If you like, you can stay here and eat grass for the rest of your life. Whaddaya say?"
Her face falls as she hears the words coming out of her mouth, realizing that last part probably sounds like a great idea. Her shoulders slump. "It's gonna be the latter, isn't it?"

At your words, the Skiddo's stance changes. You're not entirely sure what you said, or if it interpreted something you said oddly, but it seems the Skiddo is intent on a fight.

Robin hops to her feet, stumbling back for a moment. Huh, guess I can always fall back on old reliable - pissing 'em off. And, hey, guess I am officially a trainer now - fighting for a capture comes with the territory. Still, she holds up her hand for a moment. "Hey, hey, it's all good - I'm not looking for a fight." She then whips her hand out to poke the Skiddo in the nose before dashing behind it. "But if you're up for one, happy to oblige. Aubrey, why don't you try that little numbing number we practiced earlierrrrrrrr..." she trails off as she realizes what move that entails and who it's targeting. "Wait, hang on, no, d-"
Too late. The burst of paralyzing spores fires at Skiddo, falling harmlessly onto its thick, grassy hide.
The Skiddo turns and looks disdainfully at Aubrey before instantly accelerating into a charge, ramming its horns into the little bug and sending it tumbling painfully.
Ignoring me, huh? Can't blame you after that brain-fart but still, can't be having that.
Robin rushes up behind her opponent and grabs onto its horns from behind and pulling it back for a split second. "Nope, nope, nope, can't have you bullying my mon - stick to your own weight class."
The Skiddo snorts and whips its head around, easily throwing Robin off but still focused on her. A thorny vine rises from within its pelt and draws in for a strike. Behind it, however, Aubrey rolls to her feet and scuttles forward, ramming its front claw into a vulnerable spot in its side, between the rocky areas. The Skiddo jerks in pain but still sends the tendril lashing out at Robin, whipping at her exposed upper arm and drawing a bit of blood.
That done, it turns its attention back to Aubrey, just in time to miss the Poke Ball coming at it. That ball strikes it in the side and draws it in and Robin tenses as it falls to the ground.
It rolls once... then twice... then with a click, it lies still and Robin breathes a sigh of relief.
That done, she walks over to Aubrey. "Nice one, little lady. Looks like we got her. You did real well and with my help..."
A clearing of the throat from the side draws the two's gazes to Rowan, who's giving Robin a withering look.
Robin sighs. "...and in spite of how badly I screwed up, you did it." She sighs, gently petting Aubrey with one hand, careful to avoid any bruised areas, and holding up some sweet food for her to eat with the other. "I'm... really sorry about that - I got caught up in the moment, didn't think and forgot one of the total basics of Grass 'Mon. I promise, not gonna be doing that again."
Once Aubrey's finished eating, Robin picks up the ball and releases the Skiddo again, holding out some more food as she does, this batch with a bit of spice sprinkled on. "Hey there. Sorry about all that - have some of this. Promise it'll make things feel better." She smiles encouragingly before taking a bite of a sandwich herself.

The Skiddo emerges in the now familiar flood of red light, looking less upset after the process of capturing, though she still doesn't looked thrilled. The immediate offer of food does help, however. She immediately digs in and starts nursing some wounds, giving you the chance to better appreciate her physique.
Compared to the Skiddo kept in the low lands, the breeds more common in Kalos and other regions, Mountain Skiddo are stockier, with a bit more bulk to them, coming mostly from rocky ridges growing along the length of the body. The leavy mane consists of needles, like a pine or spruce, rather than the herby leaves the regular breed has, and contains some small rock spikes jutting out of the green. The horns too, have stone ridges running along the outside, curling with the horns. The front hooves have a stone spur growing out in front of them, like a climbers axe, the point of which is level with the hoof's bottom.
This Skiddo shows some wear, as if she is accustomed to getting into scrapes, and is a bit thinner than the rest of the herd, who as a whole don't seem to be too moved by the excitement your fight has caused, and which is slowly moving away from you guys.

Robin continues to feed and tend to the Skiddo, thinking about possible names. I mean, the obvious one is Billie, but it seems a little bit on the nose. Ah, well, I'll think of something.Once the three of them seem ready to move, Robin rises up and puts Rowan over his shoulder once more. As the Skiddo prepares to move, however, she feels something scuttle up her side. Looking around, she sees Aubrey climbing onto her back. Before the Skiddo gets a chance to object, however, Aubrey gives a few cheery clicks and points out to the rear and the side, indicating that she'll keep watch behind and to the side of the Skiddo so she doesn't have to worry about that. That explains, she nestles into the Skiddo's grassy hide and chirrups.
That done, Robin turns to the others. "Sorry about that. Shall we move on?"

Benji watches Robin's interactions with the skiddo, quiet but anxious. He isn't sure the small pokémon would actually be a valid means of transportation, but Robin seems interested enough and, honestly, they are kinda cute. Unsurprisingly, given Robin's charisma, they manage to convince one of the pokémon to join her team, though to be fair, Benji almost brought Maha when the skiddo reared for a fight. He watches as Robin tends to their new companion, and after they are done, he claps them in the back. "Good work, but I think Aubrey is the one who'll be riding her today, isn't it?" he asks with a smile. "But don't be asking for forgiveness, we're here for that, right? Having more companions is definitely not gonna hurt."

You continue on your way, leaving the herd of Skiddo behind you as you walk down the path through the meadow. The meadow stretches forth for the next leg of your journey, and you encounter little that could distract you while travelling, except for a variety of mountain herbs, flowers, and assorted flora, that could potentially fetch some money if sold. No encounters for the Midday leg of the journey, but anyone who wants, can roll a Survival or Perception check to gather resources, as you did when exploring the mines.

You spend some time collecting flowers and herbs, taking some care to preserve them, before heading further on your journey. As the sun starts lowering, the meadow starts making way for craggy rock once more, and you spent about two hours traversing more stony paths before dusk starts to come in. You know the next prepared Rest Stop is at least an hour more walking, and dusk will have turned to night well before you reach it. As you contemplate your options as a group, Benji spots a small pile of rubble to the side of the path, a bit further ahead. Following the trail upward, he sees a small opening in the mountain wall. Robin gains $80 Benji gains $100

"Hmm, nice!" Robin nods as she looks at the cave entrance. "Might be a good place to hole up for the night, but we probably wanna make sure there's no other tenants who might object."
