"Most Scyther live deep in the Petalburg Woods," Evelyn says, "or around Fortree, but a few of them skirt around the edges of the wood and over the water to come over to this side here. Easier prey, even if it's much lighter fare. Bit more birds, though, which is usually what eventually drives them off if they're left alone. Anyways, whichever way you choose, stay safe."
Heading east from the town doesn't take too long from where the group currently is, and soon the last of the houses make way to a grassy route surrounded by the fragrance of flowers, though they're beginning to close up for the night. There're still buzzing noises, though, and rustlings in the grass, as well as birds chirping further along.
Close by seems to be a couple buzzing rustles, as well as a few of the flower fairies drifting along, tending to particular blooms for some reason that's probably apparent only to them.

"I have always found Pokemon ecosystems to be fascinating." She comments as they walk along and take a moment to stop and smell the flowers. "Come on out Bylii, this is a nice spot for you to relax and enjoy a little snack."
Releasing the Cutiefly to flit amongst the flowers, she makes for the shaking grass nearby. A bird would likely cause unrest amongst her favorites. Even as an ally, being seen as food is never a great option. The buzzing is always of interest, but she could hold off investigating that for a few moments. Were she properly patient, she might even find a hive somewhere out this way.

Rainbow holds back with a mixture of nervousness and curiosity, while Yellow mainly affects an air of disinterest, picking one of the flowers and tapping petals, making them change colour.
As Bea approaches the source of the rusting, there's some glowing flashes, rhythmic in nature, moving amongst the flowers, until she gets close enough and two bugs jump out, flying into the air, weaving an intricate dance around one another. They look similar, yet different.

"Oh wow... some sort of courtship ritual." Taking a step back, she scans one bug, then the other with her Dex. There was a flickering glow from the male's abdomen. She wasn't willing to break up such a display, so she simply steps back and watches in reverent silence, leaning closer to Rainbow to speak softly. "These are the sorts of things I adore about being out in the wild."

"Volbeat, the Firefly Pokémon. With their taillights lit, Volbeat fly in a swarm, drawing geometric designs in the night sky. They move their nests if their pond water becomes dirty. It loves Illumise's sweet aroma."
"Illumise, the Firefly Pokémon. A nocturnal Pokémon that becomes active upon nightfall. It leads a Volbeat swarm to draw patterns in the night sky. There are scientists that study the patterns it creates, and over 200 different patterns have been confirmed. This Pokémon is said to earn greater respect from its peers by composing more complex designs in the sky."
It appears that these ones are fairly young, hence the lack of an entire swarm of bugs. They mostly seem to ignore Beatrice, though slowly drift a bit further away as she approaches.

"That's really romantic, it would be rude to disturb them." With a smile, she tucked her Dex away, and continued to admire them as they moved further along the trail, keeping an eye cast over her shoulder, with a relaxed smile on her face. This was lighter emotional fare, and she was thankful for it.

Moving onwards, Bea comes across a few Pokémon with what look like yellow helicopter petals on the top of their heads, being harassed a little bit by a blue, cottony bird who's looking like it's presuming them to be a tasty snack.

"A flying type presumably foraging on grass types." Bea's Dex was out once more. "Much as I'm loathe to interrupt a Pokemon pursuing a meal of its own accord, this might be one of the ones Evelyn mentioned. It is certainly blue." She scans the tiny bird. "Almost wish I had more fruit... or proper snacks. I should pack more."

"Yes, it might get angry and attack..." Rainbow says, nervously. "I know that you could probably handle it, but... still." Her thought is interrupted by a crunch coming from Yellow, who's busy biting into an apple that he seems to have gotten from somewhere.
"...what?" he asks, shrugging, at the glances towards him. "You mentioned fruit, and that made me hungry again."
"Skiploom," Bea's 'Dex reads, "the Cottonweed Pokémon. It blooms when the weather warms, with the degree of which depending on the temperature, so it is sometimes used a a thermometer. It floats in the sky to soak up as much sunlight as possible. As soon as it rains, though, it closes its flower and hides in the shade of a tree to avoid getting wet."
"Swablu, the Cotton Bird Pokémon. Swablu has light and fluffy wings that are like cottony clouds. This Pokémon is not frightened of people. It lands on the heads of people and sits there like a cotton-fluff hat. Swablu loves to make things clean. If it spots something dirty, it will wipe and polish it with its cottony wings. If its wings become dirty, this Pokémon finds a stream and showers itself. After enduring winter, in which little food is available, Swablu flocks move closer to towns in the spring."

"Let's see if its fondness for grooming outweighs its interests in food." Peeling her gloves off, and tucking them into a pocket, stooping down, facing away from the bird, she gathered up a handful of soil and scrubbed it about her face and neck before rising again and giving a soft whistle to draw the bird's attention.

The bird seems to squint at her as she whistles, pausing for a moment in its pecking... before it trills at her and goes back to trying to nom on the plant-y 'mon. It's probably fairly hungry, judging by its enthusiasm in doing that. But it still occasionally side-eyes Bea.

"It appears this theory was poorly considered. Guess that is mud on my face." She grinned. Digging through her pack for something for the bird to snack on, she came up with more of the usual nuts and dried berry fare she generally subsisted on, being quick and easy. On the one hand she didn't want to be partial to laziness, on the other, watching a Pokemon get pecked to death and then eaten wasn't really on her agenda today. Holding out the offering, she whistled again.

The Swablu looks up again, and seems to consider. When faced with "food that might fight back" and "food that definitely won't fight back", the latter appears to win out. Even if the Grass Pokémon don't seem that overly concerned with being eaten. There is some, but not as much as one would expect. Maybe it has to do with the setting sun.
But, the bird flaps over to Bea, lands on her head, and peers down at the berries and stuff.

"What a queer feeling." Bee laughs as the little bird feet settle into her hair, and the cottony soft wings brush near her temples, holding the suggested food up for the bluebird. "In payment for your grooming services. I imagine you and Solenoid would get along quite well too, as he does enjoy a polishing if it doesn't hinder his floating."

The bird happily pecks away at the food, before giving in and just brushing away the grime, fluttering its wings to try and get them a little clean again. It then goes back to nibbling on the free, non-risk food.
"Well," Rainbow says, laughing, "I guess it wasn't exactly angry at all. You look funny with a bird on your head."

"Yes well, perhaps you might entertain the thought of one on your head someday." Bee teased in kind, letting the swablu tidy her up and eat it's fill.
"These evolve into a dragon, it is hard to imagine, isn't it? Something so docile and prone to preening becoming something apex and fierce both."
Polishing a Pokeball to a high luster, she gave it an experimental toss into the bird's view. "I know it wouldn't get along well with my bug collection, but preparedness in the league and the challenges ahead and hobbies should probably be kept separate."

"...really?" Rainbow asks. "I can't imagine what kind of fierce creature such a ball of cotton turns into. The dragons I've seen - from a good distance - have all been really scary. But... uh, no, I'm good not having anything on my head, thanks. Kinda… is uncomfortable." She gestures to the swooshes of antennae coming up from her head. The Swablu's head follows the toss of the ball, up and down, up and down, before the bird darts out for it, and the ball comes down again with it inside. It seems like it was probably mostly waiting for an invitation. You caught a Swablu! Level: 17 Nature: Quiet Gender: Female Ability: Natural Cure Moves: Round, Mist, Disarming Voice, Safeguard, Sing

"Well, I don't know about you two, but I'm starting to tire. Maybe we should turn in for the night? Gym challenge tomorrow, and maybe the leads we need for the lab going forward? I don't really know what I'm facing tomorrow, but hybrids seem to be a part of that? I've no experience with them personally, just that they're the pokemon equivalent of Altered, right?"

"...being able to sleep in a real bed again?" Rainbow says. "Yes please. It's been... fine so far, but I'll be happy for some proper bedding."
"I'm not really on the same cycles as you all," Yellow shrugs, wandering over. "I suppose I could attempt some short dormancy. Haven't really been awake all that long."
"...how long do your kind usually stay up?"
"Oh, as far as I can remember, it'll be at least a couple decades before I start to get tired. Few centuries if I hold off on actually doing much more than watching your lives. Big ticket items tend to drain quicker, though." He shrugs.
"And... I'm sorry, I don't really know anything about 'Hybrids'. They're the Pokémon we saw in the Gym, right?" Rainbow says. "Not something we had around. Weirdness aside... they're still Pokémon. If they were around, we'd still have to fight them. ...of course, I guess, they might still be around, and they'd just be normal Pokémon to me." She muses a bit. "I wonder what sort of stuff's like that. That I just take for granted, but you'd see it and recognize it as weird."

"That is probably true of any Era,Rainbow. The things we accept as normal now were at one point in development, and these scary, looming facets of change. That is just the nature of history. Star probably knows that better then anyone." Bee's attention turned skyward, considering. "An eight hour rest cycle every sixteen hours must seem incredibly short. Will you need anything to help entertain yourself while we're out?". She addressed the boy.
