"Lapras, the Transport Pokémon," Bea's 'Dex reads, "Capable of deeply understanding the language of humans, it enjoys ferrying people on its back. It is on the verge of extinction due to its gentle nature. In the evenings, it is said to sing plaintively as it seeks what few others of its kind still remain."
"Huh, weird," Jasmine says, having taken the excuse to go back to the water, Rainbow watching from a bit back, still munching on a sandwich. "they usually like colder waters. 'Round, like, Shoal cave, from what I've heard. Wonder if it's lost, or if belongs to someone nearby."
The Lapras peers at Bea, blinking slowly.

"Hello Lapras." The girl waved at the water Pokemon. "My friend and I were really lucky to meet you today. There is somewhere we need to go, but I can't swim nearly far enough to make it on my own. Could you take us? I'll do anything I can for you, in return." She offered politely, before turning to Jasmine.
"I'm genuinely not sure, but Lapras seems like the kind of companion Rainbow and I were really looking for."

The plesiosaur paddles closer, looking at her, before touching its snout to Bea's forehead and warbling. It seems to probably be an affirmative, though she doesn't exactly speak Pokémon. It does turn, though, to allow easier access to its back.
"Oh, well, that's fortunate," Jasmine says. "Lot less likely to fall off a Lapras than you are a Wailmer, for sure." She giggles. "He's a big one."

"Guess this is goodbye for now Jasmine." Bea smiled. "Solenoid, Silica, come on it's time to go." She called her Pokemon away from their respective activities, the former testing the conductivity of different beach minerals, the latter still remaining an unassuming mound until the red beams of light drew each in kind. "Rainbow, we have our ride." Patting the broad shell gently, she ascended onto the Pokemon's back, giving its horn an affectionate rub.
"See you both in a couple days I hope?" She called to Maddie, getting comfortable.

"Psh," Jasmine says, "if you're going back down along the coast, I might as well go down with you gals until you reach the city, at least. Faster than walking, anyways."
Maddie chuckles. "Well, I expect I'll probably see you sometime in the next few days at the Gym, but if you need to crash for a bit, you know where I am. And don't get dismembered or arrested or anything, okay?" She says it all in a teasing tone, but there is a little bit of undercurrent of seriousness to it.
Rainbow gently alights on the large shell of the Pokémon, saying "oh... this is scary. It's so large. It feels like it could just look back and cause a lot of pain..."

"The company would be welcome regardless." She nodded to Jasmine with a smile. "And I promise to do my best Maddie. If it seems too risky, I'll come back without trying anything funny." Patting the Lapras' neck, giving it an affectionate stroke. "We're ready when you are girl." Leaning over it's shoulder, Bea pointed southwest. "That way." Having a seat, she showed off her 'Dex to Rainbow.
"These devices are a marvel of our age, they contain the recorded knowledge of generations of Pokemon researchers and trainers. If it says Lapras faced extinction for it's docility, and enjoys taking travelers, I believe it emphatically. Try not to worry too much, it really is a big sweetheart."

"Alright, I'll holdja to it," Maddie says as the sea beastie pulls away. "Don't wake me go out there and slap some sense into you!"
"That's... incredibly impressive," Rainbow says, looking at the PokéDex. "We don't have anything like that... it's so small. But... I'll trust you. You know more about this than I do." That still doesn't stop her from flinching when the Lapras turns its neck around and faces its passengers, vocalizing in a bit of a sing-song warble.
It bends past Bea to get its face next to Rainbow, and just stares at her, nudging at a hand. "What, uh, what does it want, Bee?" Rainbow asks.
Meanwhile, Jasmine just seems to be having a grand old time staying underwater.

"Haha... Wouldn't dream of it Maddie, see you again soon!" Bee waved to her friend beach side before turning to Rainbow. "Well, if I had to guess, it would either like to be pet, or to know where you are going. Maybe both? Try rubbing under Lapras' chin. We are heading Southwest."

The Lapras lets out a contented hum as Rainbow tentatively reaches out and rubs in the directed spot. It seems to cause the girl to relax at least a little bit, as the monster stretches and then turns back to going in the correct direction.
The vast majority of the wild Pokémon seem to give the Lapras a wide berth, perhaps out of some implicit understanding. The journey is swift, and it definitely seems to take Jasmine some effort to keep up. Eventually she pops up and says "Okay, uh, we're kinda going to be veering away from Rustboro if you keep going thataway, so, I'm gonna head off here. Let me know if you're ever in the area again and want to do a beach day again, though!" She gives a wave, before diving off towards the city and ships in the distance on the coast.
"Uh, so... I know this is probably a bad time to ask this," Rainbow says, "given that we're kinda on our way and all, but... do we have an exact plan of what we do when we get there? Go straight for the meteor, or...? You're the smart one about all of this."

Tapping her chin thoughtfully, Beatrice sunk into thought. "I would guess that the meteor is probably under supervision. Do you have the energy to span a few hours into the past when we arrive on the island and get a feel for how many people we need to look out for? I am not particularly stealthy, but it is a big island. If Dark Aetherstone is ferrous Solenoid might be able to help. There are so many blind variables, knowing more would be incredibly helpful."

"Possibly, but... also, maybe not. Because if I'd done that, then I'd maybe have felt something earlier for being so close," she ponders. "Or maybe it's far enough away. But if I didn't feel anything, then that means there could have been something stopping me... or something that kills us." She sighs. "It's times like this that I regret not playing around a bit more with how exactly resonance ranges are... but it just hurts when it happens. Or, well, I guess this is really just the first time I've wished for that." She shakes her head. "That type of thinking is going to get nowhere. I'll try when we get there. I guess."
"Ferrous is... metal-y, right?" she asks. "It's more, uh, like crystal. Purple-y black-y crystal that refracts light very wrongly. So, we should probably think of a way to extract some of that. Unless chunks've broken off. I'm not exactly sure how meteors work," she admits.

"Maybe we'll call time travel anything Plan B... I don't expect to be able to get a sample this trip, but we can at least get a feel for how bad this corruption is. The idea was to check the meteor impact sites for this 'yellow star' right?" Bee could feel the butterflies in her stomach, but she was certain about the course, even if she uncertain about the execution or the possible consequences thereof. "I'll need a tool of some kind, or maybe Solenoid's Magnet Bomb could take a piece off... but I don't really want to get any of my partners that close to the meteor."

"No, understand that," Rainbow says. "Your 'mon can't get close, and I can't really fight, so... we'll have to figure something else out when we get there, then." She wrinkles her nose. "I can already taste hints of darkness on the air. Probably couldn't have been able to tell if I'd not been around none of it for the last day, so we should be fine this far out, but... it's still there."
The Lapras warbles something after a few minutes of silence, and at first it's not clear why. But then a fin can be seen cutting through the water, headed straight for them at a rapid pace.

"This might be a bad time to ask, but can you cure that berserk state with time and reduced exposure?" Beatrice watched the fin coming in at an incredible pace, releasing Solenoid and Silica, the latter settling between the knobs on Lapras' shell. "Seems like we are already getting into dangerous waters. Good thing I didn't try to swim it."
(Double release as a full action.)
"Don't worry Lapras, we'll protect you."

"How should I know?" Rainbow asks, panicking a bit, "There's literally no such thing as 'reduced exposure' in my time! Just 'yes' and 'more'! Gets everyone eventually."With that comforting word of advice, the thing attached to the fin - a bullet-shaped shark with many, many teeth - rises to the top of the water, gnashing, and getting very, very close to the Lapras. Sharpedo uses Focus Energy.

"Teeth... lots of teeth..." Beatrice fidgeted. This was not at all the fluffy and nice Pokemon she was used to, going about her day to day business. This was a through and through predator, that would eat them given the opportunity. Her Pokedex came out first to scan the creature.
"Solenoid, Thunder Shock, Silica, Sand Attack. We need to protect Lapras with everything we have."
The bolt of current dispersed harmlessly through the water, but Silica was surprisingly on-mark, blasting the shark in the eyes with clumps of grit and blinding it.

"Sharpedo," the Dex says, "the Brutal Pokémon. Nicknamed "the bully of the sea," Sharpedo is widely feared. Its cruel fangs grow back immediately if they snap off. Just one of these Pokémon can thoroughly tear apart a supertanker."The blinded shark jets forwards, soaring through the sky on a trail of water, and only barely missing the hovering Solenoid. It looks like it would have really hurt if it had hit, though. And it's also right nearby, now. Sharpedo is Blinded. Sharpedo misses, thanks to blindness.

"Great it's a missile shark. It might just be mean tempered and not actually berserk. Solenoid, Thunder Wave, Silica Absorb." Bee kept her attention on the predator as it made the first pass, rocketing through the air with impressive ease, while Solenoid sent out ripples of current, and Silica drew a pulse of life energy from the fish.
(Sharpedo is Paralyzed and takes 26 Grass Special)

"It's scary is what it is," Rainbow says, her wings fluttering nervously. The shark pushes through the stunning, and jumps up to puncture Solenoid's metal skin, leaving deep marks. Thankfully, it is fairly heavily protected, but it won't be able to absorb another blow, likely. At least Silica was able to do some damage. Sharpedo is paralyzed. Silica heals 11 damage from Absorb. It's super effective! Solenoid takes 36 damage, reduced to 26 from Sturdy, and 2 injuries from Bite.

"Remember our practice Silica, I know you didn't much like it, but it will help... Solenoid, Thunder Shock.". Beatrice went digging in her pack for some curatives while the next volley of attacks went out. Solenoid would be out of commission for the rest of their trip if it took another chomp like that.
The glob of sand and bolt of electricity strike true once more. (Sharpedo is Blinded at takes 27 Electric Special damage.)
