The bugs quickly separate to avoid the burst of ice before making their move.
Whirlipede #1 (struck by Quick Attack, but mostly unharmed) screeches loudly at Alpha, who is looking kinda sick (Poison Point - Alpha is now Poisoned).
Screech AC 4 vs RuBE__KU1d20 Burst 2, Friendly
Lowers all legal targets Defense by -2 CS.
Whirlipede #2 advances on Mayu herself and does the same, screeching horribly.

The sound is jarring, but neither of them has actually been hit yet, fortunately. Alpha lets out a brief gasp as the bug Pokemon's spines hit it, but continues the assault. Mayu stares down the Whirlipede next to her, a wind from nowhere whipping eerily around her.

Alpha catches the spines and flings them back, then steps out of the way as the other tries to run him over again. Mayu is not quite so agile; she hisses in annoyance and hurls ice at it.
Alpha uses Counter in response to Poison Sting; that Whirlipede loses 14 hp.

This is starting to hurt. Alpha gets caught between the two, and while he's still fighting he doesn't look in great shape. Mayu continues to blast her assailant with snow.

Alpha growls as the two converge again, throwing one of the pair to the ground. He looks like he's just barely hanging on at this point. Mayu, on the other hand, manages to sidestep the one hitting her.
Alpha uses Counter on the first; it loses 22 hp. He then uses Endure to make it through the second.
Mayu uses Powder Snow again.

Turns out you don't really need to see something to stampede over it. Beta is out like a light. Seeing this, Mayu decides a strategic withdrawal is in order; she recalls Beta and flees.

Mayu escapes fairly easily. The bug is strong once it gets going, but it's slow. She earns 30 Poke XP.

Back on Route 1, Mayu quickly dismisses the "standard fare" that congregate in the area. Focusing instead on something more likely to aid her in getting through the Forest Dungeon. After some time, she spots a Fennekin!
