Mayu is going to have to work on this missing problem at some point, this really won't do in a battle where she doesn't enjoy an overwhelming type advantage. But that will have to wait for later.

Espurr is down and the trainer is really nettled about now. Clearly he's considering re-working his entire strategy at this point. Or something to that effect. Welp, no backing out now. Kirlia is the last.

Leaves, Metang's one weakness! Well, not really, but the attack is powerful enough to leave a mark anyway. Omicron tries for one last(?) claw.

Ah, yep. That'd do it. Kirlia can't evade it with Teleport, so down it goes.

Satisfactory. "Your team is very focused," Mayu comments as she collects her winnings. "An advantage, perhaps, against the Saffron Gym, but a weakness anywhere else. And I imagine the Saffron Gym Leader has seen the tactic before."

Generic Ace Trainer acknowledges this very obvious weakness, and is fairly certain that the Saffron Gym Leader has indeed seen a tactic like this before. However, he is confident that, with the right amount of training and a bit of extra variety, a full team of six could take on the Saffron Gym. Especially as Mr. Mime is adept at copying opponent's moves and setting up barriers. It's a very tactical plan, and probably won't work nine out of ten times. However, that one, single time is all he needs.

Mayu acknowledges this. She hasn't actually faced the Saffron gym yet, so she doesn't know how prepared they are for Psychic-types. Perhaps it will work.
Finished with battling for the moment, Mayu makes her way back to Cerulean City, where she spends the remainder of the day training and consulting with the local Move Tutor. The following morning, she shows up at the Gym as soon as it's open.

Mayu quickly and efficiently makes her way through the locker rooms meant for Gym challengers and on into the main room. There is a new girl hanging out in there. Not a challenger, judging by her apparent age (she looks no older than seven or eight), but perhaps a relation of one of the employees. She's currently having her Shinx do battle with a Squirtle. A practice bout, most likely. Leader Aleisandra is called out from her office when Mayu announces herself.
"Welcome back, Shiba-san. We may begin the match whenever you are ready."

This time around, Mayu decides to open with Alpha and Rho, hoping that the Lickitung's bulk will help them endure the initial wave of attacks.

Mayhaps it will, at that. Mayhaps it will. Aleisandra opens with her "signature" Whirlpool, and Wartortle attempts to burn the Lickitung with scalding water.

Rho is not overly worried about the whirlpool... but OW that is some scaldingly hot water. Alpha darts forward to punch the Corsola, while Rho paddles up to deliver a Thunder Punch to Wartortle in retaliation.

Ow. Alpha is good in a physical fight, but all those flow-like-water martial techniques don't work so well when your enemy is literally water. He'd better get in his hits while he still can. Mayu offers what assistance she can, conjuring ghost-wind at the coral Pokemon.
