Moving on, Mayu encounters an older gentleman and his wife out for a stroll along the coast. Seems they're interested in a battle. They'll go 4v4 in a Double Battle. (2 mons per side at once, 4 in total; just like Cerulean)
They open with a Shellder and a Smoochum.

OW dangit those hurt. Delta hunches down, letting his thick back plates take the brunt of the icicle barrage, then surges forward to hit the silly little shellfish a third (and hopefully last) time. Rho gives the Smoochum a lick.
Activating Pain Resistance, for DR 24 - between that and Bulletproof bringing it down from super-effective to a neutral hit, Delta stays up.

As Smoochum goes down, it tears up a bit and gives an adorable look to Rho. Cute Tears! Rho gains -2 CS in Attack for harming Smoochum. Shellder pulls all the way inside its shell, allowing that to take the hit. It still hurts. A lot; but it's not nearly as damning.
Shell Shield! Shellder uses Withdraw as a Standard Action Interrupt to gain +10 DR (in addition to the +1 Defense CS). To replace Smoochum, the woman sends out a Whirlipede! It immediately flanks Delta and whaps him from behind with venomous barbs.

Whirlipede does what Shellder did earlier: summons a Protect barrier to block the oncoming attack. End of Whirlipede's turn: Speed Boost! Shellder manages to hang in there a little longer and tries to confuse Rho.

Rho becomes extremely loopy! But this does not stop him from continuing to pound away at Shellder. Epsilon squooshes in annoyance, waits for the Whirlipede's barrier to fade, and then fires again as soon as it can see chitin.

Shellder is defeated, but Whirlipede remains strong. To replace Shellder, the man sends out Gliscor! Naturally, a water type is more dangerous to it than a Lickitung with minor random coverage, so it assaults that Octillery!

Epsilon only avoids being flattened by, well, flattening himself. But flat like an octopus squeezing into a tight space, as opposed to flat like a pancake. He focuses his efforts on the Gliscor, who is clearly the more dangerous of the two.
Meanwhile, Rho keeps doing Rho things. Being confused doesn't seem to slow him down very much
