Kappa meeps in pain... but even though Mayu has been going easier on the little Horsea than any of her other Pokemon (against, perhaps, her better judgment), the training has still toughened her up a fair bit. She holds her ground and bravely spouts forth more bubbles. Mayu, on the other hand, decides enough is enough and attempts to capture one.

After trudging roughly 3/4 of the way through Mt. Moon without a single attack, Mayu suddenly feels a familiar chill down her spine. Ghosts.
A trio of Haunter float out of the walls to surround Mayu.

Ghosts. Alpha, of course, will be of little use here. Mayu decides to give Rho his first real test.

Haunter #1 sacrifices some of its HP to lay a Curse on Rho!
Rho loses two Ticks of Hit Points at the end of any turn that it performs a Standard Action.
Haunter #s 2 and 3 set colorful lights spinning 'round Mayu and Rho's heads.

Rho is, predicably, pretty unhappy about this! And confused to boot. Mayu stares down at the one in front of her and conjures a chilling wind - not her usual snow-filled one, more spine-chilling than actual cold. And then Rho body-slams the thing.

Mayu, it turns out, is not nearly as tough as her Pokemon. That hurts. She takes a step back, returning to the familiar blasting snow and letting the cold soothe away some of the pain. Rho steps forward to deliver a literal licking to the same one his master hit.

Haunter #2 Spites (Disables) Rho's Lick! None of that now!
It then tries to re-confuse Mayu.

Mayu is reconfused. These stupid things... She backs off and summons up that eerie ghost-wind again.
Rho blinks as the punch hits home. Huh. That tickled a bit. He ambles away to have a bit of a lie-down and clear his head.

Rho groans in protest and vanishes back into his Pokeball. Mayu shakes her head, but... he's done well enough, considering. She sends out Beta to replace him, and hurls snow again while the Mightyena chomps.

Beta is a little alarmed; the attack isn't that bad, but he's never had his teeth stop working before! He tries snarling menacingly, while Mayu conjures ghost-wind again.

Just Mayu's spectral assault seems enough to finish the job.
Mayu earns 60 Poke XP.

Some weird-looking bird Pokemon flutters down into Mayu's path. It squawks indignantly at her, like she's somehow in its way (even though she was here first).

Mayu stares at the bird. Fortunately for it, she's in a decent mood right now, and so asks "What do you want?" rather than trying to ice it out of the sky.

It squawks and flutters about randomly. It's completely unclear what it wants. It's possible it's just being illogical.

Mayu tries walking around it, keeping an eye out in case it turns suddenly hostile.

It doesn't attack, but now it seems to have gotten the idea in its head that Mayu is something interesting that it should follow.
