"Our trip wasn't too exciting" Cole said as he hung halfway off a couch, a bag of chips balanced on his stomach as he hung there "Had a tough time with some Pokemon on the way and had to stay at a kind ladies house before making it to town. Other wise we would be further along" He aimed that part at Evelyn, making sure she knew they could have been even further ahead of her if they had wanted.
"I just caught the one Pokemon, and even though she's pretty rare and strong, I'm not so sure she's a good fit for me and the team." Move the focus from the trip to the Pokemon. Kai had the right idea of it

Theodore had been laying along a second couch caddy-corner to Cole, hat tipped down and High Noon perched atop it, squeaking soft little snores, sitting sideways on his hat, a leaf gently rustling now and then with the boy's breathing. Evelyn popping in full of bluster and energy was a bit startling and there was a loud THUMP! As the teen rolled from the couch, the cottonee letting out a gleeful sound as it gently drifted to the floor.
"Tarnation.." He mumbled to himself, brushing off his jacket before he set eyes on Ayah and immediately went scarlet. She had jewelry made out of the stones he had given her. That meant... Something didn't it? A lady didn't just do something like that on a whim... She could have done anything she wanted with them.
Jewelry though... It looked wonderful on her. He cleared his throat softly and adjusted his collar. "They uh... Match yore eyes... I... I mean... You look nice... IT'S GOOD TO SEE YOU!" He forced loudly, in a near embarrassed panic.

"Hmph," Evelyn scoffs a little at Cole's implication. "Well, we'd have caught up before the next gym anyways."
"Easy, Ev," Ruby says tiredly, "I get that you hate the idea of someone being further ahead of you, but can you please give it a rest? Not all of us have that same energy, and I just want to sit down, and actually have some proper food. You didn't exactly make it easy earlier."
Evelyn opens her mouth, looking like she's going to say something, before closing it again. "...I'm sorry," she says at last. "There I am, being all inconsiderate again. I'm really the only one who cares about keeping up, aren't I?"
"I mean, I enjoy the company..." Ayah says, before looking at Theo, giggling. "Good to see you, too, Theo. And thank you. I was afraid that they wouldn't come out right. Jeweller kept trying to sell me on 'proper' gems, so was worried she might not have done the best job. Ohhhh!" She lets out a happy cry as she sees the Cottonee hopping around. "It's so cuuuute! I didn't see any of those on the way here! Or much of anything, really..."
"It's a good thing, they evolve into nuisances," Evelyn says, bitterly. "Float into houses and rearrange things, leaving fluff all around. Had one drift into our home once. Was still finding cotton months later, even after we finally found where it hid everything."
"Aaanyways," Ruby says, "Dunno if you guys've eaten dinner yet or not. We're probably going to find a restaurant, if you want to join us. I'm starving, but really don't feel like trying to throw something together in the Center kitchen, or having anything with 'instant' in the name. I'm sure everyone'll be better tempered after that."

"Yeah sorry" Cole says scratching the back of his head "I'm pretty bad about thinking about the others too. I'll try and not rile her up anymore..."
He pushed back the rest of his thoughts, still not able to piece them together well before nodding "And yeah, a restaurant sounds like a good idea"

Seeing Cole up for the restaurant, Kai quickly followed his cue. "Good? I think you mean great! Can we try and see if they have a place that has some Alolan dishes?" He doubted it, but he still wanted to try and find it, just in case. "Oh, or maybe see if they have a Malasada place?"

"Mighta been my fault on that... Fellers are real light, there were three and we got to playing, but the wind caught the other two and carried 'em off." He sat up and patted the squeaking ball of fluff. "They don't let stuff like that upset them though, it is an exciting chance to go new places and see new things, kinda puts things into perspective for me. Glad we slowed up a bit too, ahm all down fer a meal." Getting to his feet, he scooped the cottonee up and held it out towards Ayah. "Y'wanna hold'm a bit? Likes being bounced."

"Ooh!" Ayah squeals, before gingerly picking up the Cottonee and bounces it, causing it to laugh and squeak as it did with Theo. "He's so cute and soft." She tosses it up and lets it gently flutter down a few times, before bouncing it back to Theo. "Don't want him to blow away outside, after all."
The six head out to look for someplace to eat. There doesn't seem to be much in selection or upscale establishments due to the size and isolation of the town, but they do find a decent looking diner, with portions that are much too big. Sadly for Kai, no Malasadas. The first portion of the meal is mostly spent in silence as the girls in particular concentrate on eating, but by the end they're much more energetic and talkative.
Evelyn mostly fills the conversation with tales of seeing Trainers full of themselves coming up to her father on the street and challenging him to a battle - and then finding out exactly how over their heads they ended up being. Ruby quietly adds a few anecdotes of her own, though is definitely... less emphatic about it, or names, but seems happy to join in. Ayah just listens to the stories, occasionally asking questions, but seems to be mostly focussed on getting food into her system.
The night is clear of ash as they head back to the Center, though there's still the all-pervasive soot smell, the moon bright and easily illuminating things. The Center, too, is quiet, the locals probably having done their business for the day and retiring to their own homes, the only other person in the building the Attendant behind the counter. Maybe now would be a good time for Kai to look up where Alolan cuisine might be able to be found.
"Hey, Theo," Ayah offers, "I'm going to go and brush Snowdrop... do you want to come and see if your Cottonee likes that?"
Cole notes as they walk in that Ruby'd been looking at her C-Gear, and notices that all of a sudden just seems to act a lot more subdued and makes her way away from the group without a word, where he just barely catches her flopping on a couch in the Center's lounge.

Cole walked over to where Ruby was sitting and plopped down across from her. Looking around to see if anyone else was paying attention, he had a somber look on his face "Hey uh.....I know you probably don't want to talk about it but....can....can you remember anything from when the Plate took you over?"

Cole
"No..." Ruby says, looking up from the couch and glancing at Cole. "Nothing. I watch the video, and none of it rings a bell. I... I know the thoughts, the feelings... they're ones I've had, at least a little. But... I'd never let it come to that. That... I just... I don't know." There are tears in her eyes. "And then there's... this." She holds her empty palm out, closes it, then opens it again to reveal a ball of rock, which she then crumbles in her hand to dissolve into nothingness.
"There's nobody that I could talk to about that. Nobody who's gone through the same thing," She shakes her head. "Well, except that one lady you guys talked about in Petalburg. But what would I say? 'Oh, hey there, stranger I've never met before, do you happen to be able to do this crazy thing and talk about how it makes you feel?'" She laughs sadly. "No way I'd ever do that." A sigh escapes her lips. "I just... it's all so overwhelming. And then there's this. A friend sent it to me." She hands her C-Gear up to Cole, the screen open to an e-message.
"Hey Ru,
I know you've been travelling, so you might not have seen what's come out of those videos with you in it. I just... thought you might want to know. So that it doesn't come as a sudden shock."
Below the message are a bunch of links to various social media sites. Following them shows a bunch of individual posts and messages, all revolving around discussing the video. Throwing out theories - that Devon was doing experiments, and that Ruby was something escaped from there. That she was magic. That Steven had actually captured a Diancie and raised it as his daughter, but it finally broke free - that one had gained a surprising amount of traction, thanks to the apparent statues of Legendary Pokémon that had been raised in the fight. And so forth. With just as many equivalent theories as to what exactly the deal was with the group of Trainers who was opposing her. One thing that was fairly consistent, though, is that the name "Gem Princess" for Ruby had seem to have caught on.
"This is going to define my life, isn't it..."

"I...." Cole stares into his own hand as a small fire burns brightly in it, before he closes it to snuff it out "I almost killed them both on the way here. I don't remember any of it, other than like.....They're so much better than me. All of you are. I trained and I studied and I WANTED it" He fell back against the couch "And I'm the worst trainer out of all of us. And then I almost killed them over it"
Shaking his head he looked at Ruby "This may define this moment, but you can't let it define your life. Embrace it, make it your own, and live how YOU want to. Gem Princess Ruby sounds like a hell of a name for an up and coming trainer if I ever heard one." A weak smile crossed his lips "But I don't have a ton of ground here. No one saw what I did except those who are supposed to be able to trust me. Now I really don't think they can"

Cole
Ruby's eyes go wide as she sees the flame. It seems like she takes a few moments to react, before she gently puts her own hand over Cole's closed one. "I could have killed my father... I understand," she says, quietly. "Whatever it was... I'm sure it wasn't your fault. It... can't be." She seems like she might be trying to convince herself as much as him, for her own incident. "I know that you're a good person. And I know you have skill, I've seen it. Things just haven't gone your way. Two of the people that you're facing against have had tutelage by some of the literal best Trainers in the region. You should not feel bad about that." She squeezes his fist, before letting go.
"If... I'm going to try and move past this, you have to, too, okay?" She stares at his face, eyes red, but face firm. "It helps a lot that I know that there's someone else. That I'm not alone. Even if nothing else. But... what would you say about... trying to see what we can do. To make sure that we don't hurt anyone else close to us. During Training in the morning or something." She gives a small smile. "And thanks for the vote... but I think 'Gem Princess' is a bit flamboyant. I don't think you'd want to be 'Firelord' or something. Or maybe you do. I don't know." She gives a weak laugh at that, looking in better spirits at least.

"Ain't never brushed a Pokemon before, but I will give it a try." The boy rose and pushed his chair in as the conversation turned to more private and sensitive fare. Probably better Cole and Ruby talk it out, neither had the best time recently. A moment alone with Ayah might see him working up the nerve to finally ask.
Having a seat while Ayah got Snowdrop situated, he watched how the brush took out tangles and gave the fur a smoother, more voluminous look to it. The snowy vulpix seemed to love every moment of it, basking in the attention. Cottonee on the other hand was too busy squeaking and hopping about with a frenetic energy. He was pretty sure this wouldn't work out.

Everyone seems off doing their own thing, and they all seemed pretty into what they were doing. Probably a bad idea to intrude on any of that. Instead, he pulls out his Pokenav and begins looking up places in Hoenn that serve Alolan food. It may just be in the bigger places, but knowing where they are ahead of time would be great!
While he's at that, he also puts together a bunch of Malasada recipes he can find, sending it on over to Cole once he's gotten a bunch of flavors and combos to try. Speaking of Malasada... He headed on over to switch out his team a bit, putting his Vileplume away and getting out the Swirlix. He'll need to get Keahi out again sometime, but he definitely needed to train with some of his new ones.
With that done, he pulls out his Pokedex and begins reading up on Swirlix and Slurpuff, Maybe it had a stone or something like that to help it evolve early?

Cole grins wide for the first time in a while "Maybe not Firelord but something like Flame King would do me just fine. I was also a Fire Specialist even before this happened, so I had already been thinking about that. Get a strong name for when I'm champion." He laughs a little weakly "That's what I used to tell myself at school. I'm not quite as sure of myself as I used to be, even if I still talk big with Evelyn. I just can't admit that I think I'm weak"
He held out a hand "Yeah, I think training together outside of town is a good idea. I also think we should keep each other updated if anything changes." He bites his lip and stutters for a second "Have....have you told Ev and Ayah? The guys don't know I can do this....it felt wrong to tell them"

"Hmmm..." Ayah says, trying to keep a serious face but failing. "I guess maybe you need to tire him out before doing this. Or something. I'm not sure to be honest." She giggles. "I've not tried to groom something that energetic before. They usually settle down pretty quickly."
She slides closer to Theo. "By the way... I just wanted to thank you for the gems." She brushes her hair out of her face and touches her earrings - this close, it's clear that they're just clip-ons. "It means a lot to me. Because I know it comes from here." She taps the place on Theo's chest above where his heart is before flushing and gingerly removing her hand. "S-sorry. This is probably getting all too sentimental and stuff."
Kai
It looks like there isn't too much in overt Alolan culture in Hoenn - at least not much that's well-advertised. However, there do seem to be some notable shops in both Mauville and Lilycove, as well as a smaller one in Slateport. Rather apt, considering that those are the main hubs of the region.
Regarding Swirlix, it seems as if there's a particular combination of sweets that aids in their evolution. It's rather difficult to make - and there isn't a huge demand for it - so shops that actually stock it are rather small. Once again Lilycove seems to have it - they have everything there, apparently - as well as Mauville. But finding it elsewhere'd probably be difficult.
Cole
"You don't need a strong name to be Champion," Ruby says, giving a smile. "If you make it there, your name tends to become synonymous with strength. There's a reason so many Gym Leaders, so many Champions, all those... they're only known by their first names. Because they are that name. But... hey, if you want to try and start a new tradition," she continues, laughing, "by all means, give it a shot."
She grasps the outstretched hand and shakes it. "I'll make sure to do that. And, yeah, they know. There's... no way that I could have kept it from them. I'd have broken down way more than I have already..." Her face falls briefly, before resuming a neutral position again. "Needed to tell someone that wouldn't have me chucked in a facility for study and 'my own safety'. I'm sure this is all perfectly safe, though." She grins at Cole and chuckles at that last bit.
Evelyn pokes her head in from the main portion of the Center. "Is... everything all right in here?" she asks, a little guardedly. "You two just kind of.. wandered off without saying anything, so, just wanted to make sure you were doing alright."
"Yeah, don't worry," Ruby replies. "All good. Cole and I were just... discussing doing some training." She glances at him. It seems obvious that after what he said, Ruby doesn't want to be the one to tell anyone about his fire without his permission.

"Might be better off grooming me at this point," Theodore joked, "Watching Cottonee zip around is tuckering me out." Then she was in close beside him, hair tucked behind her ear, a hand gently, intimately against his heart. It felt like a sudden hopeful eternity and the briefest bliss all at once and then it was over. Color flooded his face to the tips of his ears, and he caught her hand in both of his as she withdrew.
"Miss Ayah... Ah.. I mean... Ayah. Haven't really had a good minute to ask, but," Breathe. "It is easy to feel that way about you too. The way you smile, always take your time to look fer the little things around you that make the world special. Do you... Think you could do me the honor of a date sometime? N-no pressure or nothin'... I just fancy you, and hope you feel that way too." He breaks eye contact as he confesses, slowly releasing his hold on her.

"I mean Pyramid King, Tower Tycoon, and all the Gym Leaders have some sort of name afterwards. Like Brock over in Kanto is the Rock Solid Trainer. Back in the day Roxanne was known as the Rock Loving Honors Student." Cole begins to prattle on before realizing that Evelyn had come up.
His cheeks went red as his hair for a moment as he tried to come up with something to say. He didn't want to tell anyone about the fire, not yet at least. Especially because he couldn't tell another one of the girls before he told T or Kai. Or could he?...
Thankfully Ruby came up with the training excuse. Except it wasn't really an excuse because it was something they were actually going to do. The color left his cheeks and Cole shrugged "We have such different battling styles we thought it might be a good idea to train together and see if we could improve"

"Oh..." Ayah's eyes go wide, her face flushes, and her mouth hangs slightly open. "Uh, yeah, s-sure." Is all that she can sputter out. "Oh, I'm... I'm sorry, I'm just at a loss for words. Oh, I'm so embarrassed, I should be able to think of something better to say." She averts her eyes, too.
"I... uh, don't know if there's much to do here," she says at last, "Especially in the ash. But... I know Lavaridge has a nice hot spring that people love to talk about. And Mauville has, like, everything. So... does either of those sound good, or..." She just continues gesturing as she trails off, obviously not being able to find the words.
Cole
"Ah, I see..." Evelyn says, looking between the two of them, before addressing Cole. "So... it'll just be you and her? Training... alone?" There almost sounds like a bit of bitterness or jealousy in her voice, before she breathes in, and the undertone disappears. "Well, if you want me to join you, then let me know. Otherwise... guess I'll just continue on my own." With that, she pulls back out of the room, leaving Cole and Ruby alone.

"Well... Why not both? Unless... That is a bit too much? Just... Spending time together?" Scuffing a booted foot, he finished releasing her hands and stands up straighter, lifting his eyes to look at her.
"I've never seen a hotspring before, nor been to Mauville, can you tell me what it's like? Everything is a lot of stuff, sure... But it is just a really big village town right?"

Cole got on awkward grimace on his face for a moment after Ev left before breaking out laughing "You know, if I didn't know her better, I might say that she's jealous"
He sighs and falls back onto the couch "Maybe I should tell everyone. I just.....Kai just now stopped flinching anytime I go near. I don't know exactly what I did, but it must have been bad. But.....I don't know. I can't hide it forever"
Standing back up he smiled at Ruby "But either way, I'll see you bright and early for the training. We're heading deeper into the ash though. We should stay as far away from the house on the west end of town as possible. Just trust me on this"
