The smell of ash gets stronger as the group makes their way towards the buildings in the distance, the winds shifting to carry some of the light flakes over in their direction. It's not much, but enough to cause some tickling and sneezing.
After about an hour of walking, the trio makes it to Fallarbor Town proper. It seems to be a fairly small, compressed place, with banks of ashes swept up to keep the walkways clear. There's hustle and bustle of people hurrying about, but not in the big-city-feel kind of way. It's more of the feel of a tight-knit community.
The Pokémon Center is a little bit harder to pick out than usual, due to the ash covering a lot of the distinctive red roof, but thankfully there's enough signage to point towards it. Upon entering, the Attendant looks up from whatever she was doing with her computer, and does a bit of a double-take. "Oh, gosh, are you all all right? Those seem like some nasty scratches there. What happened?"

"Ma'am." Theodore stated curtly with his jaw set, clothing stained and hair disheveled, hat a bit further forward then he might have normally kept it. "If the person in charge round these parts had a lick of sense there would be some kind of sign outside that fossil house. I seen things today I don't never want to see again. Prolly a wonder we got out with our skin." His expression was strained and it was clear he was trying very hard not to blow his stack in the direction of a woman.

"Ah. That." She sighs. "Believe me, people have tried putting up 'condemned' signs, or warnings. They end up vanishing. They've torn the place down. It just keeps on popping up. Webpages explaining it tend to go down, videos corrupt. Which is all a pain, because the only people who ever report anything weird going on in there are people who don't expect weird things from the house. Frustrating for everybody involved. Mystery hunters, because they never find anything. The people who go in there, because whatever goes on. And the town, because people complain. But... there's nothing that we can do about it." She shrugs. "I'm sorry, there's nothing more that we can do but ignore it, and hope it goes away. As long as you don't go in, it doesn't seem to cause trouble. Not for the last fifteen or so years that it seems to have been going on."

"...I think I wish we burned it down now, Cole, if only because I'd feel better." Kai looked a bit paler with the revelations of this horror story of an adventure they just had. He had a grimace cross his face as he remembered the items they got. "...Did, uh, anyone ever get anything out from the place? Like maybe say... fossils?"

"Sometimes people supposedly come out with stuff they didn't have when they went in." The attendant shrugs. "The sort of people who it apparently happens to don't tend to want to talk much about it, I find."

"I'm gonna pretend this never happened, that place doesn't exist, and it was all a horrible dream. And then move on with my day" Cole says, though his body is wracked with wounds "Maybe we'll need to stay in town for a few days to get back our footing however. Other than that place that I'm not mentioning again, is there anything else of note around here?"

"Not really," the Attendant says. "For visitors this is mostly resupply, maybe a place to wait for one of the people who fly passengers over the volcano to Lavaridge. The ash makes farming good here, but is a little bit... choking for anyone trying to do anything else. There's a glassblower out to the east, though, that's garnered a surprisingly wide reputation. Beautiful pieces. But maybe a little delicate for being on the road."

Sounded like a simple industrious life, Theodore could get behind that. At the attendant's description of the death house he didn't rescind his harsh words or offer an apology, but the teen did fall silent and break eye contact until it came question for what there was to do local.
"What are the Pokemon like living round these parts?"

"They're all pretty hardy, especially eastwards - you've got Steel types like Skarmory and Durant, and Ground types like Sandshrew and Numel," she says. "Westward is a little bit more laid-back. You've got stuff like Swablu - they'd never be able to live in the Ashland, poor things'd die of exhaustion trying to clean it all - Lotad, and Seedot, a bunch of water-dwellers... oh, Zangoose and Seviper. Closer to the falls are some rock-types that live in the mountains."

Kai twitched a bit as he heard the attendant say Sandshrew was a ground type, he knew why, but hearing about them still was a bit weird to him. He was happy about hearing what was around the place, saved a bit of trouble trying to find out what was around themselves. "Thanks for the info! Mind making sure my friends get better? As you can probably see the two of them are way worse off than I am."
He offers an awkward smile at the attendant and his teammates, he got off relatively scott-free from the encounter with the things that must not be named. Just a bit of scuff and tear on his clothes from the assault of the Unown.

"Seedot and Lotad? Must be a good source of fresh water out that way, and good and clear of the ash like you say. Wouldn't mind settling round these parts for a couple adventures, eh fellers? We can wait for the girls to catch up 'fore we go after our second badge.". Theodore submitted his Pokemon for treatment and waited his turn for bandaging. "At any rate, few more ground or water types couldn't hurt with what's ahead."

Cole sort of shrugged "I'm down for going wherever. I don't have a lot of desire to catch any water types, I think Chicory should be able to help in the next gym. But who knows what we'll see, I might be eating my words before the trip is up"
"Wherever you guys decide to go, I'll support" It didn't feel right making choices. Going to the Falls was his idea, and look how that ended up. He would just follow for a while, leaving the choices to them.

It gets a little too late to head back out by the time everyone was all healed - plus heading out in the morning means that they could leave most of their supplies at the Center, without having to lug them around.
Early (relatively speaking) the next morning, the group heads out, quickly passing the Fossil Maniac's house and leaving that behind in exchange for coming across a cool, clear stream and lots of grassy fields. It feels like a very good trade.
In the middle of the first field they come across, there appears to be a noisy bunch of fluff in the middle of it. Peering closer, it looks to be a few different types of fluff. There's blue chirping fluff, green squeaking fluff, and then pinkish more sugary fluff.

"Boy howdy, ah reckon that there's a mighty pile of fluff. Th' Pokemon sure are chatty this morning." Theodore gave a good stretch. "Morning fellers." Theodore greets the trio earnestly as he approaches, taking his hat off as it's polite. The pinkish one might've been a lady, he was bad about gauging that.

Kai whistled in intrigue, pulling out his Pokedex as he let Theo take the lead. He slowly began scanning the three, wanting to know a bit about each one before he approached. "Let's see what you guys are..."
He didn't think any of them were territorial, but you never know! Plus he had been catching the most lately, so only fair to let the others get a chance first.

Cole sort of stands back and watches as Theo walks forward and Kai pulls out his Pokedex. They seemed to have things handled so he kept back and had a hand resting on a Pokeball. Just in case.

As Theo approaches, a good bunch of the Pokémon scatter, bursting apart in a chirping, squealing cloud of fluff that lingers in the air for a bit. The bunch left seems to be a pair of birds beeping and chirping over a handful of shiny stones of various shapes and colours - one appears to have been rubbing a wing over them - a trio of floating cotton plants mostly looking on with wary curiosity, and one sugary dog-thing that looks to be just waking up with a yawn and a stretch.
Kai's PokéDex begins to read out in turn "Swablu, the Cotton Bird Pokémon. Its cotton-like wings are soft, and shed dirt easily. Which is good for them, because they tend to not be able to stand seeing things dirty, so will obsessively dust things off if there's the hint of dirt on them, at least until getting tired. They are also well known for melodious, if loud, singing, and perching on peoples' heads like hats."
"Cottonee, the Cotton Puff Pokémon. They travel in packs, blown by the wind. They hate rain, however, as it makes them too heavy to fly, and so will take shelter under trees or overhangs during downpours. They are sociable, but also whimsical, and don't tend to form long-term friendships, as they fully expect to never see a given person or Pokémon again."
"Swirlix, the Cotton Candy Pokémon. The fur on its body is extremely sticky due to its diet only consisting of berries and other sweets. They are considered pests by berry farmers due to their tremendous appetites, but are valued as loyal pets in other parts of society."

"I.. feel like I've seen a Swirlix before." Kai mutters to himself as he looks at the puff of cotton candy. As he actually scrolled through it's entry he found what made him feel deja vu.
"Oh, that's the Malasada mascot!" And with him recognizing it, his eyes settled on the one just waking up on the ground. He did glance over at the birds, but he had to go see the mascot of the Malasada Shop!
He tried to approach the little candy fluff, taking it slow since there was a lot around, and since it was just waking up. "Good morning, Have a good sleep I take it?"

"The heck is a malsalada?" Cottonee weren't particularly common round home, but they were cute so there was plenty of presence in media. He felt a little bad about scaring so many of the Pokemon off, sometimes he forgot how skittish the ones that don't live round people could get. Moving to approach the remaining Cottonee, Theodore tripped, landing hard face to face with one, the wind knocked out of him. "Oof! Heh..."
"Hey little guy, you can call me 'Tumbleweed'"

The birds and the fluff scatter a little further as Theo trips in front of them, but apparently the ones that remain are those whose curiosity wins out over skittishness. Even if only minorly. The Swablu go back to their shinies, polishing them while keeping one eye on the humans, but the Cottonee hop a little closer, peering at the tripped Trainer. They squeak in a way that seems to be a mix of questioning and greeting, their excitement seeming to build off of each other now that they've actually gotten going.
The Swirlix seems to be much more mellow, peering up at Kai, before looking around and taking in everything that's going prior to looking back at him. The only response that the Alolan gets from the fairy is a big yawn, before it begins sniffing the air, looking around. It seems as though it might be hungry and, judging by its perking up, it might have found something in the direction of the trees beyond the field.
