I'm not going to say it was damage, but it was damage.

"Steel Pokemon resist many forms of attack and boast incredible defenses, they are far more direct then Ghost Pokemon, which rely on tricks and tend to be fragile. Ground, Fighting, and Fire type Pokemon will hold the biggest advantage. Fairy, Rock, and Ice will struggle the most defensively, and many, many typed will struggle offensively. It is not a challenge to be rushed into." Morty councils softly, as he hands each trainer their respective cards. "Wherever you decide to go from here, I wish you luck." Muku's card reads 'Muku Starling', and Omega's last name seems to be a strange horseshoe symbol.
Paperwork done, challenge overcome, and rewards reaped, our intrepid young heroes plan their next move, after a celebratory meal with friends, of course.

"Thank you for the advice, Morty," Thel says, before glancing at Omega. "We would do well to heed it."
At dinner, Thel's mostly quiet, reflecting on the day. He really hadn't helped that much in the Gym battle... so, that's something that he needs to get better at, to not drag the others down. But, it did go better than he expected. He can't help shake the feeling that they were mostly just lucky, though.
One thing that he does do is give Em most of his Cleanse Tags, explaining what Morty had told him about them helping to keep ghosts away if affixed to surfaces. He does keep just one, though. But he thinks that she'd feel better with them even more.
"I still maintain that we should go to that other Gym first," Thel says, with regards to planning. "The one that's not Steel. It is smarter to build up your strength, especially since Morty said ghosts are fragile, and Steel is very hardy... we would be going from one extreme to the other."

Muku is too preoccupied with staring at her new shiny trainer card and badge to be worried about the squabbling trainers around her. Muku. Muku Starling. That was a name. A good name, she thought. A name. Her name. Shivers rolled down her back, and she didn't know why. Why was there so much weight to that idea? It's like someone turned up the gravity and the idea of having an actual name was a crushing new idea that she hadn't considered. She had, of course, always had something of a name. But Muku could also refer to the birds, and she wasn't just a Starly, she was Muku Starling.
It was terrifying, it was new, but more importantly it was hers. And that had to count for something, right?
Without eating a bite of the food in front of her, she pushes the plate gently to the side and addresses the group with her all-important two cents. "Muku thinks... Even if we go see Janine, Muku thinks we wouldn't maybe have to fight Janine. So maybe, we could go see her and maybe say, 'Yes, Muku can beat this person' or 'No, Thel is right like he is sometimes, and this was a terrible decision to come here.'"
She pauses and does a good think. "Olivine has boats too, right, right? So maybe if we go there, we can always go somewhere else on the floaty things and not have to go through the routes because routes are scary because sometimes Pokémon might try to randomly pop out of bushes and not all Pokémon that pop out of bushes are nice like Mmip."

"Since Thel is being a little puppy about it then we can make a vote on it. There are 4 of us and if I lose or we tie, then we can do what Thel wants because otherwise we will never hear the end of it." Omega says as he shoves food into his mouth. Morty seemed to understand him more than Thel did, leaving him a symbol after his name, something people can see and know that it was HIM, it was Omega. Taking some sticky thing that the people called tape, Omega had etched out the symbol on the back of his jacket before meeting back with everyone.
"So Kursz, Muku, Thel, and Omega will all get a vote. I think we should fight Steel because it is only by facing the strong will we become strong ourselves. Running from it is never a good idea. But, even if we do go there because the rest of you realize its a better idea to be strong than to be weak, I will agree with what Muku said. If we go and it goes poorly, then we can leave. I've done a good job of holding to my promises so far."

"Well, you know what I think," Thel says. "I believe that we should go to the other place. And... it's not running. It's not cowardice to know to attack something that is stronger than you. It is intelligence. If you are hunting, unless you have a huge advantage, you stick to hunting things that are not as strong as you. That is how you keep living."

"But Humans aren't Pokémon and Pokémon aren't Humans." Muku utters with a thought that even surprised herself. "Muku… Doesn't like many humans. But no human has ever looked to Muku like they were going to hurt human Muku or kill human Muku besides the bad ones. Morty was weird, but not bad. Nurse Joy here, is creepy and unsettling in ways that Muku doesn't understand, but she heals Muku's Pokémon and that's something.
She paused. Of course, wild Pokémon were another matter altogether, both being one and being attacked by one. You couldn't let up then, the other Pokémon or person would probably kill you. Kill you like the Owl of Death, snatched away in the night, screaming in terror and terror and shadows and terrors and-
This was getting out of hand. She shook her head and made her decision. "Muku thinks Omega has the right idea... For now. Muku wants to at least see this Gym Leader and her 'Steel' Pokémon. If nothing else... Maybe she can give the plock ideas on how where to train until we can beat her? Sort of like how the dancers said we should go into the dark and scary tower!"

"I'm, uh, I'm pretty sure that they said to not go after dark..." Thel says.

"Details." Muku says dismissively. Sure it MIGHT of happened that way, but she was making it clear that she didn't want to hear it.

"Maybe Thel is still just mad that we saw him without his pants on" Omega says leaning back into his chair "And that's why he keeps saying that we weren't supposed to go after dark."

"Wait.. wha- what?" Thel says, flushing. "You... saw that? He takes a breath to steady himself. "L-look, I didn't know that that was going to happen. Everyone was just saying that the tower was not to be gone to after dark. And I don't want any of us to die!"

Muku head tilts and leans forward as she gives both Omega and Thel a stern look. "Muku is confused. Muku doesn't think it is that bad to not have pants is it? Muku lived for bird years without pants, and Muku is still getting along just fine. And- And, Thel wasn't doing anything weird was he? Him and Em are close, so if they want to get closer, that just means Omega is jealous and and even Muku is a bit jealous because Muku didn't really say goodbye, except she kind of did, but at the same time she's also going to..."
A small flit of panic struck her heart. The plock was getting a bit smaller, wasn't it? She hadn't processed that until now, but Em was going to be here all alone and how could she stand that?! At least, maybe, maybe she had tubby yellow, but that was only one Pokémon and at least Muku had Mmip and Hornise and Woopie Goldsire, and- Well, she had an egg.
Still. She leans her head down onto the table despondently and spares Kursz a pensive stare. "Kursz isn't going to leave too, is he? Muku doesn't know how much she can deal with more people leaving right now..."

Kursz gave Muku a wide-eyed deer in the headlights sort of state, and shrank back a little into his hoodie, comical as the sight might have been. That he would have been born a shelmet or a pineco, and had ready places to hide just by existing. "I don't understand, why does Muku care what happens to a bug? Birds don't care about bugs, the same.way the death owl doesn't care about birds."
His breathing steadied itself a little over a minute or two. "What is this vote thing? Can I eat it?" A brief pause and the large boy cocked his head. "If it were just me, I would fight the weakest gyms first, so everyone could see how strong and cool I am. Also, we aren't the ones actually fighting, and if I had ever been captured... I wouldn't want my trainer putting me in battles I couldn't win, or battles at all. I would like to go to the bug place where you all went before sometime though."

"It wasn't... weird," Thel says to Muku, squirming a bit, "just... private. A moment of closeness, that didn't need others involved in it."
"Probably," he begins to say to Kursz, glad of being able to shift the topic, "because we're not bug, or bird, or whatever. We're all just human. So we can care. And support each other. And... all that."
"So, uh, I think that's decided, then?" He looks at Omega. "It's half and half, and you mentioned that you'd concede to taking the other route at that point, yes?"

"You don't have to explain my own rules to me" Omega says while rolling his eyes "But fine. We take the cowards path."
He turned to Kursz and shrugged "The Hive is probably still agitated. It would be quite dangerous to go, but I'm always fine adding more to my pack if you want to try for more eggs"
"It's the direction we're going anyways. So we can either go there on the way down, or go there when we have to backtrack through this whole place again"

"It would be nice to get revenge on the dread bees." Muku offers, trying to escape her thoughts. This was a choice, a choice that was of two different choices that didn't matter all that much to Muku. She could sense Omega's unhappiness waving off of him, but that would pass. All things pass.
She wondered what kind of place they were going to was. Did they ever ask? Probably not...

With Muku not having an answer that was immediately forthcoming, Kursz fell silent for a moment, glancing between Muku's spaced out expression, Omega's sullen, and Thel's relieved. "We could go meet the steel person and decide later though. I heard there were beaches that way. Maybe that was home for me? I remember sand and water. Finding Dad again would be really great!"

Omega threw his arms up in confusion "Wait, are we going to the South or the West? I was still trying to accept that Thel had won. Are we going the way Muku and I want instead?"
He shrugged "You know what, I'm fine with whatever we choose. We will defeat all of these 'Gym Leaders' just as we defeated Morty."
"But we can't keep going back and forth on where we're going"

"Muku agrees. Big flocks need big flock leaders; even if the flock leader might get tired and need to be subbed out later." She says as she wags her finger at no one in particular. "So! So! Muku will make decision. We will go south first, then maybe try to go see the Steel lady."
Crossing her arms, she glares at Thel, daring to defy on her on this. If he said anything about going west, she would send him straight to the Owl of Death!

Thel is confused. South is... the way he was wanting to go, wasn't it? So, why was she glaring at him, like he'd done something wrong? It was... perplexing. "Okay, uh, sounds good," he says to her. Was she wanting a dissenting voice? Or for him to say something specific? He doesn't know.

"Yes! Then it is decided! We go south! To bugs and glory!" Muku exclaims, clapping her hands noisily and suddenly giving Thel the look of 'yes, that is exactly what I wanted you to say, good job'. It's a very hard look to give, but there's something in the eyebrows that just say it all.
