" ONE" Omega points at the Shadow " MORE" Blade charges forward, the dark energy gathering in his horn as the flames continue to torment him " STRIKE!" The boy swings his arm down as the Absol swings its horn down in a massive arc towards the Gengar. Turning around before seeing if it connected or not, Omega pointed at Thel and Muku " WITH THIS FIGHT, WE CAN STAND UP TO ANYTHING! WITH THIS FIGHT, WE ARE A PACK! WITH THIS FIGHT, WE ARE TRAINERS!" Behind him the Absol rears up in a victory roar, before collapsing to the ground in a heap, the hit having taken the last of its energy. Blade uses Pursuit with a 19 vs AC 2 for 45 Physical Dark Damage with a crit
Blade then takes 3 ticks of damage and goes down

Morty's cheerful demeanor never flags, as one by one his team falls. He recalls their slumped shadowy forms and clasps his hands in front of him. "Congratulations on your first official Johto gym victory, and on becoming Pokemon Trainers officially! I have a number of prizes for you to choose from, then we have to settle in and register you as Trainers." "I don't know if I'd say standing up to anything…" Thel protests. "There is so much more out there that we don't know."When Morty addresses them, her nervously says "Thank you...", before repeating himself with a little bit more confidence. Even if Serenity didn't make it to the end... she still contributed. They did things. He has some strength. When it came to 'prizes', there's no question about which one it would be. The one with things explained as being able to keep ghosts away. But not for him... no, most of those, he would see if he could give those to Em. She needs them more than he. Taking Package 1. Once that's all settled out Thel asks Morty, "So.. what exactly does actually being a Trainer entail?"

Muku bounces across the room, nearly jumping off the walls! They had did it! They had did and- Well. Shoot. Thel was right in that she had no darn clue about being a Trainer actually meant aside from throw balls at things, beat other people's Pokémon up, and then beat some stronger people's Pokémon. As such, she totally planned to listen to not-ghost man's spiel, since that was going to be important. Still, she spared a small moment on the side to give Omega a big toothy grin. "You did good! Real good! Once you pick a package, Muku will take the other one so that, that we can get a bit of the whole horde! Right? Right! Muku, Muku!"

Omega was proud. He had did it. No, THEY had did it. Both him, his Blade, and the rest of his Pack. They did this and no one could take that away. In fact, instead of taking it away, they were being given MORE things. Being a Trainer was great! He got to fight and got given things for fighting and he was good at it! " Muku did good too" Omega says quietly, ruffling the top of the formers birds head before walking over and looking at the prizes. Picking up the wicked looking knife, he takes a few slashes through the air, before nodding his head and affixing it to his belt on the opposite side as his Pokeballs "I shall use this to help my Pack. No longer will I rely only on my Blade and my Fang. I will protect them with my own two hands as well" Following after the others Omega stands tall with pride. Taking Package 3

"The answer to that question tends to be very personal and unique." Morty explained in a quiet, relaxed tone as he gathered things from different cabinets and bins. "For some it is friendship, the Pokemon they bond with becoming lifelong companions that only have a Poke ball as a formality to prevent poaching. Some it is understanding, they go on to become Pokemon Professors, Breeders, Mentors. Others, like Omega, it is about strength, dominance, and competitive spirit."
He wasn't cheerful, nor dour in how he carried himself, just pleasantly relaxed with a cool demeanor. "It isn't just those three things, but broad strokes that will define many." He moved to a small computer terminal on one side of the room and started filling in blank spaces on a screen with Unown. There was an awkward pause and he smiled. "I don't suppose you know when your birthday was? Do Pokemon celebrate hatchdays?"

Head comb, no! Muku furiously bats at Omega's hand, but only after it was too late and the damage was once and truly done. H-her comb. It had taken so long to get it back into place. Bah! She was going to have to mess around with it back at the Pokémon Center. Or maybe he was trying to get it back into place and it fell out after the battle? Well. That was just as likely as an option. She hoped. Maybe. Absolutely not, but delusions made her feel better about life in general. Last to go, Muku takes one of the packages from the second section with all of the eggs. They were all interesting, but she was only allowed to take one according to Morty, so she took the egg that had a bit of a 'sharpness' to it. It reminded her of a talon, and talons were good, so egg was probably good. Logical? Logical. Having made her decision, she turns back to Morty. "Of course Pokémon celebrate Hatchdays. Even stupid Pidgeys aren't so stupid and they are pretty stupid."Taking Package #2, with a Honedge!

"Ah... I see," Thel says, wryly. "So there's not going to be an easy answer to that. Shame." Self-discovery isn't exactly his strong suit. But... he's sure it'll come to him. Eventually.
He feels very awkward after Muku's statement, though. "Uh... we never did..." he stammers out. "Celebrate hatching, that is. It was another set of claws... but also another mouth to feed. Put to work as soon as possible. And there, especially before leaving the den the first time... well, time blends." Thinking back, it's all really a dream-like blur. "I couldn't tell you anything about time, really... It's all days to me." He feels really stupid admitting all of this in front of Muku.

"Omega has seen 20 winters and 19 summers" He says smugly. He knew exactly how many seasons since he had hatched. Maybe not the exact day, but the general idea of it "My day of hatching was when the last leaves fell from the nearest tree to the den."
He tapped his foot with impatience "But why does it matter when we hatched? Is that important to be a Trainer?"

Muku shuddered. Born in the falling leaves season? How cruel. Muku could remember being born to the shimmering of pink blossoms flying through the air, warm rain, and terrifying thunderstorms. Being born in falling leaves was bad, because then it was snow season, and nobody liked snow season because it was so cold and being cold was bad. Thel however, oh poor Thel.
Muku spares him a pitying look. What on earth was going on there in Thel's nest? Was there really no one to celebrate his birth? Muku couldn't remember her parent, but she at least knew they were happy that they had hatched her. Was that why Thel was so weird sometimes? Maybe. That had to be why. This is within Muku's powers to fix.
"Thel needs to have a hatch-day celebration. Muku said so and so it is so." She smirks mischievously. "Muku is going to find Thel a shiny rock at some point and give it to Thel. Sometimes birds do that, and so Muku will do that because Muku is still a bird at heart and even though Muku is still not over the existential crisis that is being Muku, maybe giving Thel a shiny rock will help Muku get over that and also make Muku feel better about Thel's tragic circumstances of birth because of being Thel."

"There's, uh, there's no need for that," Thel says. "You can keep the rock, I don't need one!"

"Muku doesn't have a rock, don't be silly." Muku posits. She quickly adopts a dominant bird position and spreads out her arms. "No! Muku will find you a rock! And when Muku does, we will celebrate Thel's hatchday! No more arguing! Muku!!!"

Thel shrinks, cowed. "...yes, okay, of course." He knew that the respite from all this ordering around and all had just been temporary. It had only been a matter of time...

"Trainers usually aren't allowed to become trainers until they have celebrated at least ten birthdays, which is what humans call a hatchday, one birthday per full rotation of the seasons as Omega seems familiar with. At eighteen hatchdays you are considered a human adult. Curious that Pokemon are so varied in their views and structures. Omega is twenty or nearly so, hatched in the fall. This information goes on your trainer card along with a 'surname', a second name to identify you from another human with the same name as you. To humans, all pidgeys look so alike they are difficult to tell apart, so two Franks will have different surnames to separate them."
Turning back to face the screen, he slowly enters the remaining information and sets the trainer ID's to print. That accomplished, he rises to fetch a shiny set of badge cases. "These are to hold the tokens of your success, I know you will treat them well. If you intend to continue the league from here, you will find Whitney to the south, in Goldenrod, or Jasmine to the west. Though she is very kind, you may want to wait. Steel Type Pokemon are the hardiest out there and that is the type she represents."

"A human is not a Salandit is not a Starly," Thel says. "If humans and one type of Pokémon are so different, why not the same for two types of Pokémon? Is there something specifically that should set humans apart as having the only different way to see things? I am sure that those that just ate plants would see the world as much different than I."
"I do not suppose that there is a list that I might be able to look over for 'surnames'?" he asks. "I don't know what might and might not be good for a human. You all have such strange names..."
After some further questioning and searching, he picks out the name 'Lucasta.' It has a nice ring to it, he thinks. Flows nicely on the tongue, feels like something at least somewhat familiar.
"Yes... Steel would be probably good to avoid," he agrees, "I have no poison, certainly, and Serenity's fire is not so hot as I would like yet, so that would make things very difficult indeed. Best to safe that for later."

“Muku doesn’t think Muku knows anything about steel. Just birds that are tough as steel, because they have steel wings, but Muku thinks that’s just fantastic and stupid because steel birds probably wouldn’t be able to fly due to being so heavy.” She nods. This was a logical world with logical things. Ghosts couldn’t fly because they didn’t exist. Steel does exists, but probably can’t fly. Simple. Concise. Sensible.
She bites her tongue. “Muku thinks... We were also supposed to see the Professor sciencey man, right? Muku doesn’t want to deal with him, but Muku does think hat-boy said something about that.”

Omega seemed disinterested in picking a last name "I don't need to pick one of these Surname things. When I beat this champion of yours and become the new alpha, my name will be known far and wide and I won't need a second name to be recognized."
His eyes flash at the mention of Steel types being the hardiest. Most of his new pack is fragile but strong and adding an overwhelming defense to it seems like the perfect idea, like he had been trying with the Rock snake before everyone abandoned him. He bet they thought he had forgotten. No, it still simmered in the back of his mind as he tried to think of a way to get back at them.
"If this Jasmine is strong then we should fight her sooner rather than later. Fighting many powerful people is the quickest path to true strength. Besides, if we got Steel Pokemon of our own, then we would be harder for other people to beat. I think it makes the most sense to go there first."
Turning to Muku he flashed a grin "The professor man was going to make us trainers, but we are already trainers, so why should we go see him anymore?"

Thel sighs internally. Of course Omega would seek out the hardest challenge. And just be generally difficult. "Look," he says, "you can just pick a name until then. Because it's probably needed to actually become a Trainer. And without being a Trainer, you can't beat the champion. I'd think." He looks to Morty to see if he got that right.
"You also assume we could actually win in the first place," Thel says. "We are not yet strong. I'm sure in your heart of hearts you know that. The first time we fought, we got absolutely destroyed and that was by someone not even a Gym Leader. I am certain that if we fought someone known for being the strongest of those that we have to face, who doesn't want to see us become Trainers... we would stand no chance as we are. I don't want to fight a fight I know that will be lost, when there is a different chance. One to become stronger, to train those that we have."

"You also thought that we didn't stand a chance against Morty and then we won" Omega says with a yawn, waving off Thels entire argument without thinking it over much "So I don't think you have a good sense on what battles we can and can't win. It's alright, eventually you will get better at knowing what you are capable of."
He shrugged "Besides, part of why we lost that first fight was because you went into it unsure of yourself. If you just believed in yourself and your Pokemon more then you would be a much better trainer. Instead you just keep focusing on what they CAN'T do and not what they CAN."

"I've seen Steel Types before," he says, shaking his head. "Durant are very tasty. But, if you have neither fire, nor the ability to just poison them and run away until they die... they are very, very tough opponents. I have seen enough other potential predators just bounce off them and then, if they are unskilled, be dragged away by a swarm. Even birds. If you are not prepared, you will face death. The same principal applies here. And I know, from experience, that I am not prepared. That none of us are, really."
